((Hmm, it appears a part of my last post is missing, I only noticed now...I have no idea what it read...ah well.))
When the boat was as close as the gryphon dare go Vilya untied the tow rope and they doubled back to the ship's deck. Vilya landed behind Sai, still blue for the kraken's blood soaking her clothes. Tura stayed airborne lest something go wrong. The noble produced a soft, blue gem from the folds of his cloak and held it out in one palm. Vilya watched, putting a gentle hand on Sai's shoulder as he opened the book. "In case you need more power..." she offered, moving to stand beside him. "You can take it from me...Let's get this done."

Sai nodded his thanks to Vilya and drew out a small piece of paper that he had tucked into his shirt earlier that morning. "Agon meum vis vires simul per eas quo ego tactus." Sai read off. He placed his hand on the baron's shoulder and felt his energy begin to seep out of him and into the older man. He could also feel Vilya's energy flowing through him and into the other man as well. "Go." Sai said to the baron. Baron Raynon Marcon began to read the incantation written within Sai's spellbook. Sai immediately felt his energy begin to flow out into Marcon. As the incantation continued a large magical array, made of brilliant glowing violet light, formed around the kraken. Marcon began the final part of the incantation, the implantation of a portion of his own soul. This was the hard part. The kraken began to resist the intrusion almost immediately and Marcon was forced to draw on more and more of Sai and Vilya's magical powers to force his soul fragment to meld with that of the kraken's. Eventually the kraken, already exhausted from its combat with the three mages succumbed to the intrusion and Marcon's soul fragment was absorbed into it. "Now, will it into the stone." Sai said and removed his hand. Marcon raised the small stone in his hand and the kraken seemed to melt into water and rise up into a sudden swirling waterspout which arced out and collided with the small stone, every drop being absorbed into it. "Congratulations, Baron. You now have a bound partner. Except for the fact that you have almost no magic, you could be considered a mage." Sai said.

Kin emerged from the raging waters onto the shoreline along with Vix who uncoiled around from him and burrowed into the solid ground. Kin laid across the shore and spread out his body in an attempt to dry himself while he watched the sealing from afar.
"If you hold back in a fight you just end up dead." Kin muttered to himself out loud. "Besides, I wanted to give Sai a sample of what kind to spell I've been hiding." Kin smirked.

Vilya stepped backward, shaking her head to clear it. She had tried to control the amount of energy she gave, though even doing that still left her drained. I keep forgetting I don't have half the magical stamina Sai does. Tura landed behind her carefully. hey both looked out to the calm patch of ocean where the kraken had fought. The waters were still a much darker blue there.
Marcon stared at the stone for a moment, then raised his head weakly and smiled at them. "Thank you." he said, "You have saved this village." His eyes turned back to the stone in wonder, suddenly he started as Tura's cold voice penetrated his thoughts.
Marcon took a while to determine the source of the voice, but when he met the gryphon's eyes he nodded seriously.
"Hey, there's a procession on the shore." Vilya couldn't quite make out the symbol on the banners from this distance, but Tura growled when she turned.
((Good? no good?))

Crap... Sai thought. Stratus asked.
Sai said and pulled his hood up. "Vilya, we should really be going. If those Guards are of the same persuasion as the last bunch then we'd be best to avoid them." Sai said. "Not fond of the Imperials, eh?" Marcon said. "Can't say I blame you. There aren't many around the west coast that would be glad to see them. They show up every now and then, pressing their laws on us, demanding taxes, but giving us nothing in return." "Yeah, they do like to throw their authority around, don't they?" Sai said. "Since we've gotten everything all squared away here, I'd just as soon head on to the next village without having to deal with them." "Not before I give you a show of appreciation." Marcon said. The Baron reached into his jacket and pulled out a small pouch. He handed it to Sai, and it clinked and jingled as he did. "It's not much, but it should keep you fed for a while at least. Here, this is for you too, but don't open it till you're well away from here." He said and pulled out a slim wooden box, which was latched shut. Sai accepted the pouch and the box and slipped them both into his pack, he'd split it with Vilya and Kin later. "Thank you, Baron. And good luck with you're new partner." Sai said and launched himself over the edge of the boat and onto Stratus back as he swooped by. He asked of his companions.

Kin was closest to the group of Imperials, but he didn't seem too worried. Kin stretched and rung out his hair of water and then shook it like a wet dog would.
I'm not the one they're looking for so I don't have anything to worry about. Kin thought to himself as he kept an eye on William and Vilya to see what their next move would be even though he had heard William speak telepathically to him. Kin was the one in the group who still hadn't figured out how to speak telepathically so he had no way of replying anyhow.

"Too ready." Vilya said, jumping onto Tura's back. The gryphon launched herself into the air and Vilya, saluting cheerfully to Marcon from her saddle, turned and followed her friend into the sky. "Its going to be difficult to participate in the finals at the capital if you're being hunted." She mentioned casually after they had reached the wind's speed and it was no longer whistling in her ears. Tura surveyed the growing hills as she spoke. They would soon be flying over a mountain chain. Tura liked the mountains, she felt at home among the high peaks and solid rock.
((I just had an idea, what if the mage Vilya is after is working for the imperials, testing new spells on villages. This would give our characters a lead in to a bigger plot.))

((I've got some long-term plans with the imperials, but I don't see why the imperials can't be working on multiple projects. So, go for it.))
Stratus said. He tilted his wings and swooped low down over the shoreline. He headed along the line between the water and the sand and aimed for where Kin was. Sai held out his hand as they came near to the other mage, in case he wanted a hand up.

Vix unburrowed from the sand and quickly coiled around Kin's arm and waist while Kin took hold of Sai's forearm and was taken into the air.

"What's our next destination Sai?" Vilya asked, taking the map from her pack and waving the rolled parchment before offering it to her companion. We should probably find a town with a sage at least. Tura stated to all of them.
"Sounds like we could spend a bit of time there, I' could do with staying in one place for more than a day." Vilya said.
"Hmm What do you think?" Vilya asked her companions.

Sai swung Kin up onto Stratus back behind him and the four of them soared back up into the sky to join with Vilya and Tura. "Isolated mountain village?" Sai said. "Sounds like as good a place to me as any. Stratus, Kin, Vix? What do you guys all think?" Stratus replied.

Vix thought to Kin.
"Vix says it doesn't matter. And I don't care since I already had my fun." Kin replied bluntly.

Sai thought to the griffin. "Speaking of your 'fun', Kin." Sai said over his shoulder as they flew. "You don't think what you did down there during the battle was a little excessive? The whole point was to weaken and capture the kraken, not kill it. And with that spell you were using you would have killed it if Vilya hadn't happened to know a healing spell."

Kin thought much of Sai's concerns for the Kracken. "It was a problem in the first place so it dying wouldn't be much of a problem." Kin replied. "Plus, holding back can get you killed. You never know what could be hiding."

Tura dipped delicately down in the air before pulling up beside the dragon. She gave Kin an interested look, her deep violet eyes glinting in the sun before she flew ahead to lead the way. Vilya had not heard what was said.
A few hours of flying had them well into the mountains. Vilya found it got colder much faster than she expected. Tura spoke softly, "Whoa!" Vilya voiced her shock as a burst of warm air pushed them higher into the sky. She looked down to the ground to find it alight with bright orange light. They were flying over a river of molten rock.
Vilya settled back into her harness as they passed. She drew a thick wool cloak out of her bag and wrapped it about her body.
Tura began her descent a few moments later, the sky was beginning to cloud over and in the on-coming gloom Vilya could see a tiny yellow glow nestled between two mountain peaks. Below it was a dense but bare forest and beyond Vilya could not see because of a thick, dark fog that had collected in the mountains just before the village. It looked unnatural at best. She asked the gryphon, who growled in response.
