I play the flute and the piccolo... We only have one really preppy flute at my school. We also have this REALLY annoying girl who CANNOT play...we are talking not even a b flat!!! How stupid scream can you get!?! She's been playing for a year, too!! You would think she would know the notes by now!
Sorry, I'm ok neutral now...

I wish I had a piccolo, but I don't. I can play it, though. My friend's family is very musical and they have a ton of instruments, including a piccolo, so one day my friend and I did piccolo/recorder duets. I'd never played the piccolo before and I had no trouble with it. I was quite proud of myself. XD It's a fun instrument. I'd love to have one to annoy the crap out of my family. 3nodding

My family isn't either. At least my parents aren't. My mom played clarinet for a couple weeks in high school, but that's it. My mom's brother (my uncle sweatdrop ) was in a rock band in the 80's though, and my grandfather on my mom's side apparently made a record. So I guess that's where I get it from. My brother can play bass pretty well, too.

My family isn't too musical.. My mom tried to play the clarinet when she was young... let's just say that failed. Though my Uncle Andy plays the Sousaphone. o.o;; He took a saxaphone mouthpiece and put it on his Sousaphone... I haven't heard it, but he says it makes some interesting noises...
Oh, and I think my Aunt Monica plays flute. I've never really met her though.

My family isn't very musical at all. xD My dad sings on random occasions (As in he randomly bursts into song every now and then.) and my mom used to be one of the top singers at her school when she was in Vietnam. They used to try to urge me into playing piano, but after I failed miserably, I clung to my flute... One of my cousins plays violin, another plays guitar, some others play piano, and one of my uncles plays guitar. But I don't meet them often, anyway. confused
But my brother wants to be a percussionist.

I'm decent at piccolo...but I luv my flute. My family is sort of musical, my mom played clarinet when she was my age. My brother played trumpet all through high school, and was the one who got me interested in band.

Yesh, piccolo could never take over my love for flute. The instrument overall is just so elegant, not to mention that the design is fairly slick and easy to handle. 3nodding And while I'm on that branch of thought, it's one of the instruments that doesn't look mind-bogglingly complicated.

I never have gotten the fact that, like, trombone and trumpet players have either three keys or four positions, yet can play as many notes as we can...

Nothing.is.Random I never have gotten the fact that, like, trombone and trumpet players have either three keys or four positions, yet can play as many notes as we can... It has to do with intervals. I'm not exactly sure of the technology or whatever behind it, but basically the notes you hit depend on how tight your lips are/how much air you're putting through the horn. It's quite tough. When my brother played trumpet, I taught myself how to play it a little. Once I got the hang of it it wasn't SO bad, but it was tough at first, definitely. I heard a trumpet player at jazz symposium last year play, like, a high F on his trumpet. Yes, the F above the staff. I don't know HOW he did it. I know flute players that can't hit that note. BTW, trombones have seven positions, not four. XD I don't know how difficult trombone is compared to trumpet - it's one of the few instruments I've NEVER played. My friend plays though, and she's promised to let me try it sometime.

Oh, my family's sort of musical. For instance, there's my mother; she played piano for almost twenty years, and was in colourguard (although, that's not really musical per se). My grandmother played the bass and glockenspiel...and, well, okay, that's about it. Still, it's something.

In Year 7 ensemble the teacher offered me the piccolo position but I said I wanted to stick to my flute, which I regret now. confused Piccolos are so nifty and high. whee
I can play about 6 notes on my middle C fingering due to harmonics. xd
My friend got a new flute and it has a low B. I'm jealous.
