I'm not really pissed off at Funimation. Legally, this is the best they could do. However, I am pissed at Gaia for selling a little more of its soul to make a dollar.
I wonder if they even tried to go to CLAMP about it. "Hey, Funimation came to us about promoting your product, and we'd be really stoked to do it, but there's a problem. See, we're a website with millions of users all over the globe, but Funimation only has rights to your work in certain countries. You think you could give us the go-ahead so we can include the others?"
I doubt CLAMP would have been like "Fomgno. We already have enough money and fans."

Contacting CLAMP probably isn't exactly easy, but yeah, I'm sure it wouldn't have been too hard to get an okay to use their characters for promotion.
I am a bit annoyed a Funimation, since they ******** up a lot of good things anyway. Either promote it or don't, since they hold the copyright to the characters in the US, UK, etc. they could hold that this site is based in the US, and thus under right to promote it on the site despite international users. It's a grey area, but I doubt they would have much trouble with it since I doubt the Japanese distributors would look into it, and I don't think CLAMP would care (since it is a promotional product and not just some copyright infringement).
If Gaia wanted to go that far with it, and actually stop users from accessing it, they would block all but those country's IPs from accessing the information pages and quest pages. They didn't, obviously they don't care. They do care enough to say it's a possible banning offense going there since it it a glitch exploit, but they won't go out of their way to actually fix the problem.
I say, too ******** bad. Either care or don't, but I doubt this is one of those issues that any copyright holder will look into. They shouldn't pretend to care when they don't.

That's what I've been saying in SF all along. Nobody's losing money over a few ******** pixels. Nobody is going to waste money to sue over it.

Yeah, CLAMP won't sue since Japan has a healthy doujin business and sueing over copyright steps on that. They wouldn't, it would be bad for business all around. The Japanese distributors wouldn't, hell they probably wouldn't notice or care and since CLAMP has character copyrights I think they would have more of the say in this than the distributor.
It would cost more money for Funimation to try and start a lawsuit over a case that probably wouldn't hold water in court than it would to just promote it more openly.
Distributors in the US don't know what to do with US anime fans though, other than "Supply product, make profit." since most of the "real" fans import or read fan translations. Funimation tends to handle things badly, which is why I suspect it to be a little more on their end. But Gaia really needed to tell them to shut the ******** up.
Now it's bad business for everyone, but Gaia more so than Funimation. Sadly.

Ya know... I don't think I remember watching anyhing by Funimation. Hmm... were they the company that took over Sailor Moon halfway through and got all of the horrible voice actors?
Most of the stuff I buy seems to be from Viz or Tokyopop, with a few smaller manga companies whose names elude me at the moment. Whoever puts out Cantarella. Mmm... good stuff.

I don't think Funimation did anything with Sailormoon. Cloverway is the company that took over after DiC. Cloverway, funnily enough is the north american branch of Toei. D:

According to Wiki (and actually, their website directly since I know some people cringe at Wiki), plenty of things including Full Metal Alchemist, that weird ******** show Shin-Chan, DBZ, and probably other things that people would recognize that I don't -- I don't watch much TV, especially anime.

Hey... I LIKED FMA. Guess I was confused about that. Since Viz publishes the graphic novels, I thought they distributed the anime, too.
And Shin-chan is ******** hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing at that tonight. I wonder if they actually say stuff like that in the Japanese version or if it's just some mash-up like Samurai Pizza Cats. It's just so wrong.
But eech. DBZ. Nothing can make up for that atrocity. Granted they didn't have much to work with, but they somehow managed to make it worse.

They're a really hit or miss company, the best things they do are when they almost totally rewrite a show (Like Lupin III or Shin-Chan). The adaptation works sometimes, but can feel really awkward or out of place in a lot of shows. They've been getting better in recent years, but they used to be terrible.
They also seem to get a lot of really bad voice actors for a number of their shows. Some of the changes are also really bizarre, like "Detective Conan" to "Case Closed"
The problem is that they've been around so long, so they get a lot of big anime and don't quite know what to do with it. When they're good they're good, but when they're bad they're ******** unwatchable.

Yeah, I seemed to associate the name with "horrible voice acting." Which is why I was so surprised about FMA. The voices for that were actually pretty good.
The other shows, though... Well, the bad acting in Shin-chan only makes it more hilarious, at least.

Yeah, Shin-chan and Lupin's voices actually fit. FMA was surprisingly good, I recall the voices in Detective Conan being pretty good. But most of their shows (somehow) end up with really mediocre or painfully bad voice actors. It's just confusing since they should have a decent list of talent on hand. It seems like the moment someone is supposed to have an accent it goes downhill.

This semester needed to end about a week ago. I'm getting so burned out on schoolwork and stupid prelabs.
He's ******** up. He shoves everyone away, then posts an angsty blog about being "alone." I'm beginning to think that he just missed out on being emo in high school and has to do it now, while severely ******** up the rest of his life. And I'm not going to let it bother me any more. ********>
