Minoru stretched and yawned as he looked at the unfinished cube. It was kind of off that it was taking so long. He wished it wasn't taking so long since he needed to get it done and move on. He came to the field to quickly catch up with his classmates and he found that he was just falling farther and farther behind with the assignments he had taken on so far. "This really shouldn't be this hard. I should have been able to breeze through these assignments and catch up with my classmates. Although I haven't really met any of them except for the one weird kid... I can't remember what his name was though...."

The cube seemed to taunt Minoru more and more with each failure. The cube may as well have been punching him in the stomach and gloating. He had almost completed the puzzle and the last side was causing him the biggest headache. Minoru took a second to take a few deep breaths and then rub his temple. He really was going to go insane from this puzzle. "Oh well if I go insane, it'll get rid of the burden I place on everyone," he thought sadly. "Not like I’ve done anything but slow everyone down so far... I really need to get this done so I can stop being a problem." Minoru realized that he was beginning to depress himself unintentionally, so he resolved to try and be positive until he finished. He just didn't know when he would finish in the first place, and that was causing him a lot of concern.

Failure was beginning to become as common as the sun coming up in the morning, or the wind blowing on a daily basis. Minoru wondered if he was going to see his eighteenth birthday before he finished this puzzle. He tried again to use this “chakra" thing that everyone talked about. He tried imitating what he had seen the girl from earlier do, but it failed miserably since he didn't know how to use it at all. He decided to not try that again since he didn't know what he might end up doing. He might end up killing himself if he dived too deep into the unknown. When dealing with something as dangerous as chakra, one should never go off alone.

Minoru would have to make sure that he tried talking to some of the other students sometime in the future. So far he had met a really fast talking boy who seeming entirely too happy, some other boys being tied up, and a girl who could magically replicate herself. He would have to ask her about that sometime, or at least someone who knew how to do it. It seemed like a skill that could be very helpful and be used in many different situations. Minoru wondered if it was hard to learn, since only ninja knew how to do it. It had to be some form of Jutsu, but he'd learn that later. Focusing his thoughts on the annoying cube again, he tried to solve it as fast as he could.

Trying to manipulate unseen forces you weren't too sure how to use was apparently a bad idea. As he tried to use anything the Rubix cube shot out of his hands and flew back over to where some of the other people were. Quickly trying to correct himself, he ran over and grabbed the cube. Rather than run away and look like a fool, he sat down right there and attempted to solve the puzzle again. It wasn't an easy puzzle though, and he had already tried many, many time to solve it without any measure of success. Perhaps with other people around, they might see him and know what to do to solve it. However that was doubtful as he wouldn't bother them and they were too busy with their own assignments.

Maybe he was right to be shy of other students since he failed yet again. It was unrealistic to blame any of them; it wasn't like they had done anything wrong. Sadly it was his own foolish insecurities that prevented him from making the step from failure to success. It really was just one step till he tasted sweet success, but the step must have been a light year long and a thousand miles high. Who built steps like that? Were they trying to accommodate the world's largest human? It was doubtful, but it felt as though that step he was trying to climb was just too far away. Minoru considered the fact that the answer might be that there was no answer. It could be just a wild chase to get him out of Moku-sama's sight. He really hoped that wasn't the case; if it was Minoru wondered what he had done to cause so much damage.

Even though he was trying to stay positive, it would have been an outright lie to say that he wasn't getting a bit frustrated with what he was doing. The thought of giving up crossed him mind more than a few times. But that wasn't the mindset of someone who was going to come out a winner in the end. Hopefully that end was in the near future instead of the distant future. That wasn't something he desired, especially because he had to eat sometime. Sleeping generally helped to, but there was no time for either of those things when there was an assignment to finish. He was so close he could almost taste it, and he wanted to taste that sweet victory.

Minoru wondered if he had set a new record with all the failures in a row. He had to have failed almost fifty times by now. It seemed like he could fill out an application with that on it. "Failed to solve the last side of a Rubix Cube almost 50 times," it would read. It was crazy to think about, but it helped him pass the time. Maybe after he got through this assignment he would go train with the weapons he had been given. He could always skip out on this assignment and go do that but where was the fun in that. You didn't learn anything that way, and all you would just end up screwing yourself over when you were unbalanced in terms of skills.

Another fail to chalk up on the fail list. It was really starting to seem like it was impossible to solve this infernal cube. Did Moku-sama want to punish Minoru for something? Could it be because he had shown up late? If that was the case then it made sense. Minoru really didn't want to make any enemies so early in his life. He barely knew anyone as it was. What could he possibly have done to annoy anyone? Minoru was probably just making himself nervous and psyching himself out. It was very likely that no one hated him, and that he hadn't angered anyone. Still it was always in the back of his mind, like a little devil that liked poking his insecurities with a sharp trident.

Conan felt the ropes get oh so much tighter as the three of them worked. “ o wow owie. Is it just me or did the ropes just get tighter? I mean they didn’t hurt before and now its giving me some really bad rope burn.” Conan said as he flexing his hands to try to make them feel better but they only hurt that much more. Sighing Conan said “ man I thought being tied together would be more fun then this…” Conan thought about what he said for a second before panicking and sputtered out. “ not that the thought of being tied up is any fun I mean its not like I even thought about being tied together with the two of you…” Conan just put his head down as his face boiled. Just stop talking and concentrate on the ropes he thought as he tried to untie the knot tying them together.

Moku was still watching everyone do there training. They all seamed to be trying there best in there training. Moku took a look at Minoru it seamed like he was having a tough time with it. He seamed to just be bumbling about turning side after side. Watching for a bit more Moku spoke up and said “Minoru-kun Rubix cubes use algorithms to move pieces where you want them to be moved. You pick a side to solve and move the pieces around using the different algorithms the different algorithms are…” Moku went on to explain the different algorithms so that Minoru would understand them. When he was done Moku turned his attention back to the others as they trained. Now Minoru should be able to solve the cube easily.

"Is this something that was supposed to 'build character?'" wondered Minoru as he kept failing. It was like clockwork at this point. Birds had to swim, fish had to fly, and he had to fail at completing this Rubix cube. He wondered why people called it "building character," as if they were all characters in some weird game. "The heat and stress must be going to my head. That was a weird thing to think about even for me. Characters in a game, what nonsense. As if everyone was just pawns for someone else to move around and laugh at. Well actually that's what gods are supposed to do... Maybe I should make a note to find myself some form of religion so I can get some answers to these questions. This multi-colored cube doesn't seem to be answering me."

Minoru listened to everything Moku-sama had to say. So he had assumed correctly that there was some sort of trick. These "algorithms" seemed to be simple enough. A mathematical formula applied to a how many times you needed to rotate the different sides in order to finish the puzzle. Minoru was more than happy to take the advice and get closer to completing the last side. Now he just had to decide what algorithm to use. Only one of them would be correct, so he figured he'd just keep trying different ones until one of them gave him the result he needed. He was more than ready to move on from this challenging assignment.

Well so much for that first algorithm. The first time using this new method may have failed him, but he wasn't going to just give up because of it. He really didn't want to fail any more in front of everyone. That was the last thing he wanted to do. He did notice that the fast-talking boy from earlier managed to embarrass himself somehow. He didn't know why the kid was embarrassed; after all he was just tied up with two of his classmates. Did one of the other two kids do something weird while they were tied together? It was entirely possible knowing how people could be. He just hoped that the kid wasn't horribly scared for life. Although the fact that they couldn't get out of the rope reassured Minoru that he wasn't the only one having some problems.

Minoru wanted to jump for victory and scream in joy. He managed to hold it in however; you never want to make a fool out of yourself in front of other people. Still he had finally solved the accursed "Rubix" cube and it felt good to know that he had accomplished something. He felt kind of bad that he needed help in order to complete it, but at least he completed it. The best part was that it hadn't taken all day like he had expected it to. He elected to move on to something else, once he had talked the training over with Moku-sama. Minoru had some questions for him before he went off to train his target practice skills.

Moku saw that Minoru just took a few try’s to figure out the methods that he taught him and apply it to the cube. After he had completed the cube Moku saw the joy in the boys body. As much as he tried to hold it in it still showed. Thinking that he would have to find something else for the boy to do Moku scaned a look over at Shiru and Gekkani who were still conversing. Sighing Moku got off of the tree and walked up to Minoru and looked at the cube. “ well done looks like you got the hang of it…” taking the cube from the boy Moku put it back in away. “ so go ahead and pick something else on the list and I suppose if you need any assistance just ask…” moku didn’t know how much longer it would take for everything to be done with the students to finish there study’s and go off on there own. He supposed that once they were all done with there regular training they would want something else to do. By that time rolled around moku would have to think of something for them to do since Shiru clearly wasn’t in the teaching mood.
