Paul grimaced slightly. It had forced Rice to pause, but... it hadn't destroyed him. Not by any means. Not even a wound. Paul sighed slightly. Maybe he needed to put a little more firepower on target. Then again, if the dumpster were full, what he was about to do would do him less than no good. He aimed for where the Sage had gone behind the dumpster, prayed the dumpster was empty so that the bullets would penetrate, and shot precisely nine bullets.

---

Fyrin stood. He moved forward quickly, striding purposefully out into the open straight for the dumpster where the Sage had taken cover. A couple of bullets slammed into the dumpster, perhaps hitting the Sage; Fyrin didn't care. It would take some intense melee combat, and not a small deal of mana, but there was a good chance that, if Fyrin could get past any defenses he might mount last second, the Sage could be finished by being torn away from his soul. Then Fyrin could make a ghost, or reanimate him and have another fighter.

Don't count your eggs before they hatch, though, Fyrin reminded himself, almost to the dumpster.

Boom boom boom boom boom BOOM!

"b***h!" Paul heard from behind the Dumpster on the sixth shot. The Dumpster was, in fact, full. The bullets had gone through it all like tissue paper. Paul then realized his phase bullets were hitting harder than he though - it was like getting hit with a shotgun through Kevlar, almost. The blunt impact still hurt like hell.

Paul surmised the Sage was growing frustrated, perhaps even worried, when an explosion and subsequent screams indicated the Sage had begun going through the building beside him to approach them.

"Oookay, guys, not good," Paul told the others, and he began backing away as quickly as possible without losing his bead on where the sounds were coming from in the building. "Let's get to some sort of cover," he advised. He was moving towards the highway, aiming to get to the far side and the many cars there. The sage had done some nasty things to Joe when Joe was channeling a djinni. Paul was channeling nothing, and most of his magic was offensive. When two offensive powers met, what it came down to was who could kill first. Paul did not intend to get killed first. He intended to sort of... disappear. Chameleonic wouldn't do it this time; instead he'd have to mask his magical signature as best he could and simply stay behind something so that he wasn't visually apparent. Fortunately, he was wearing camo pants today.

---

Fyrin continued to stride purposefully towards the dumpster. The backside was now empty, but there was a large gaping hole inward. He pushed into it, glancing around to get his bearings...

Fyrin felt a gathering of massive energy proportions of energy from deep in the building. Everyone did, in fact. Apparently, despite not having memorized many of his spells, his book contained the Sages' most powerful spell, the Physics Beam. Most Sage spells were fairly low in their mana requirements despite their often-dramatic results.

A Physics Beam felt like the pressure that had come from Joe a dozen time over and focused into a point the size of a pin's head in Sage magic form. Every Warlock nearby was screaming for their accompanying descendant to get the hell away.

Paul started running towards the Charger. Trunk, passenger, shotgun, driver's seat, it didn't matter. The fastest way out of here was in a car, and Paul found in mere moments that Fyrin was beside, then beyond him. Fyrin himself vaulted over the open driver's door, grabbed onto the roof, and slid artfully in. All four of Fyrin's men, still at the vehicle, jumped into the seats, while Fyrin popped the trunk for Paul and anyone else who wished to join them in their little dangerous escape.

Shortly Paul was in the back, and the Charger began to turn around, already spinning its tires in the grass...

((Don't ask why I emphasize what car it is; I really don't know, other than it doesn't have room for other people. Then again, it's kinda for the same reason that Paul has, specifically, a Glock 26. Just gives a clearer mental image, says I.))

Get ready to ride, dude. Just hit the timing right. The approaching beam had even alerted the panda's senses. Regardless of its existence outside the normal planes of existence, the energy was still a viable mode of transport for the dæmon, as long as he was called at the right time. Siber readied him for combat.
"Don't worry about me," Siber said. "Get yourselves and any civilians you can out of range; I'll be able to get back to him faster than at least the Hunters can."

He prepared to ride the wave out.

Joe couldn't hear Roland, but he wasn't stupid. Every one of his allies suddenly dropped and ran, so Joe figured he should do the ********," he said, firing bright white fireballs at Sam. When he had a chance, Joe sprinted for the freeway.

About three fourths of the way up the chamber, Keilven felt the magical power spike. Deciding nothing good could come from it, he quickly started trying to climb down and away from the power source.

The beam ripped out of the building. Everything it contacted was subjected to the alien physics of the Twelfth Tier, the only dimensional space with physics unlike those of the rest of the universe.

Things turned inside out, were duplicated and annihilated and turned into one-dimensional lines and turned into the explosive pulsing stone, which did not explode until the beam was off of it. There was a sense that this attack was wrong, to the greatest degree imaginable, more than Legion's worst magic, more than necromancy or the Ghoster's soul destruction. All of those at least had some element of this world. The Physics Beam was the most foreign, unfamiliar thing a person could ever be exposed to.

The Sage was sweeping it along the road. On one hand, he only seemed to be able to move it kind of slowly. On the other hand, it appeared to have no practical limit to its range and a rather wide beam.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:28 pm

Siber was swept upward from the beam on the dæmon's power. The instant he was at his highest point, he opened his Svadhistana like a river as per Keldan's instructions, screaming, "Terpsichore!"
The water dæmon shrieked into being from the hasty casting and began to liquify the vapor within the Sage's shield. Specifically, that vapor coming from his breath. In addition, she pulled in all vapor around him, making it possible to both waterboard him and water-log his book, which she ruined, grinding ice through it and streaking the pages into a blurry, illegible mess. Yes, his shield was still effective, as were any other spells he had memorized, but this guy's creativity was severely limited.
Before he blacked out, Siber called, "Someone block his airways! If he can't breathe, he can't cast!" He fell heavily in the Dumpster.
His last thought was how incredibly nonaesthetically pleasing that was. Terpsichore, of course, had vanished.

The Sage screamed as his ability to continue the spell was destroyed under his nose his Physics Beam went out of control, annihilating his hands and sending shockwaves from the exploding stone his hands had become deep down his arms. His shield had been annihilated by the chain-reacting stone fragments, leaving him an unshielded, bloody, handless mess, trying to drag himself to his feet to flee.

Action to prevent him from casting rapidly seemed like a waste of time, as it appeared he'd suffered the rough effect of a small half-buffered fragmentation grenade. Fragments had damaged his eyes and all of the skin on the front of his body. He was essentially bleeding from his everything.

((And so Siber, by judicious application of the basic, simple vulnerabilities of Sages, has defeated a professional Blowupologist who was using his superweapon.))

((I lied.

Except about leaving.))

The Charger came to a stop, a mere hundred yards from where it had begun its mad dash. Slowly it came back around, advancing towards the rubble as far as it could go before the people inside had to ditch and go by foot. They approached the now fallen Sage.

Paul frowned deeply. "Well, I hate to be involved in executions, but..." he murmured, raising the rifle to his shoulder, sighting in on the Sage's head, and pulling the trigger. Just once.

((Go Siber! Whoo!))

Joe sighed in relief as the Sage fell, but he had other things to worry about as Paul fired his executioner's shot. Mainly, Sam.
Joe turned to him. "Now, where were we?" he asked as he readied himself and took a stance.
