Armads the Doom Bringer

PostPosted: Thu May 21, 2009 6:12 am

Minoru looked over at the kunai that he had been given after his latest failure to complete the cube. As much as he wanted to work with them, he had a task he had to complete. It wasn't like he could just skip the work in front of him to go do something else. That was irresponsible. Although it did sound like fun as well as educational, it was the things that weren't fun that you learned the most from. They taught you the hard lessons in life. It was the hard things that you had to experience in addition to the easy things. Minoru had seen plenty of people facing hard times when he traveled. Outside of the village people starved and were constantly plagued with bandit attacks and killings by other ninja. It was a sad thing to see people having to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their kids. That sort of choice should never have to be made by anyone.

Suddenly the cube shot out of his hands like a scared cat and landed about three feet away. Perhaps there was some truth in Minoru's thought that the Rubix cube had been insured with a Jutsu. Of course it could also be complete lunacy. Then again a lot in the world was just too crazy to believe when you really thought about it. With ninja's wielding god-like power over other mortals, it was if they had transcended being human. Maybe that's what being Hokage meant. Perhaps they had advanced so much that they were nothing but pure, manifested chakra. Looking directly at them would cause you to be instantly rendered blind, thus the need to bow to them. Of course that was just speculation, Hokage's couldn't possibly be demi-gods that had transcended from humans... Could they?

Two failures, and for the same reason none the less. This was a habit that, apparently, didn't want to be broken. Breathing in the intoxicatingly clean air of the clearing Tenma shook herself of her past two failures and replaced them with assurance that the third time is the charm. The slight breeze was pleasantly cool against Tenma's skin, which helped her to relax and concentrate. In preparation to make another attempt she rolled her shoulders back and listened the the cracking sound that echoed through her as she did.

Taking in another substancial breath of air the child was ready for her third attempt. As her focus concentrated on her energy she closed her eyes. Her chakra was shift as it moved through her body, but it was also pleasantly simple to trace. As she pulled energy to her hands she began her sequence on handseals. The energy continued to build in her hands as she forced her way through the sequence. By the time her last handseal came the girl was having a difficult time containing the chakra that she was attempting to use.

Finally, the final seal was made and it was time to release the energy. The rush that she felt was like none other. Even quicker than it had began the chakra rushed out of her to follow out its intended purpose. After being slightly drained of energy Tenma opened her eyes to reveal four perfectly manufactured cloned of herself. With a smile of success Tenma allowed the clones to disappear in a puff of smoke.

The cube just didn't want to be solved it seemed. Oh well it wasn't like Minoru was in a hurry. He was going to try as hard as he could to be more patient with the cube than he had been with the seals. Wondering if they had any basis in this lesson, he formed each of the seals in turn, seeing if it did anything to the cube. Sadly it didn't; it just sat there like a good cube should. He really would have to find out if there was a Rubix cube Jutsu out there. If there wasn't he would have to see about inventing it. It really was an interesting idea in Minoru's mind. He liked to consider things that most people thought crazy to think about it. Minoru thought that it made him unpredictable, and thus gave him some sort of slight advantage. After all, what could be worse than fighting someone you thought was crazy?

Minoru laughed as the cube reflected in the sunlight slightly. Maybe he was losing his mind, but Minoru was beginning to enjoy this cube. He would have to ask Moku-sama if he could keep it after he finished it. He was beginning to form a bond of some sort with the cube. It was almost as if it was slowly teaching him things about himself that he had never known. For example he probably never would have considered a quarter of the things that had been going through his mind since he started the Rubix cube. It really was an object that expanded your mine. He had to make sure to keep his ego in check though; no one liked someone who seemed to be smarter than them all the time. That wasn't any funny. You had to let other people take the credit every once and a while to keep them happy.

Minoru was thinking about moving someone else where he could free to think in peace. It seemed there was a girl, or were there five different girls? They all looked alike. Minoru could've sworn that there had only been one of here a few seconds ago. Was it some form of Jutsu? It seemed likely since five identical twins were unlikely even among ninja. He really hoped to learn whatever it was you needed to know to be able to do that since it looked really cool. Sadly Minoru was still attracted by maneuvers that looked cool. It was part of him wanting to fit in with the other ninjas. They all seemed to be so much better than him. Suddenly Minoru realized he was staring at the girl. He quickly averted his eyes and tried to refocus on the cube that was causing him so much trouble.

Minoru was having a harder time refocusing on the cube this time. Maybe he really should have gone somewhere else. He was better when he trained alone. It gave him time to easily focus his attention on the task at hand. He wasn't supposed to be focused on the other students. Especially the female ones; Last thing he needed was to be ran out of town because some powerful family had problems with non-native born ninjas looking at someone. The thought scared him; he had just arrived in town, he didn't want to leave and end up starving and hungry in a gutter somewhere. Of course he had already learned a little bit about ninjas. They might not even let him leave. They might just kill him and call it a day.

Minoru quickly got up and moved behind a tree and out of sight before anyone saw him. He didn't want any trouble, and it was about time he got back to work on the cube. He wasn't going to school to stare at people. He was going to school to become a ninja, maybe not a great one, but a ninja nonetheless. It was something he swore to do when he had been left in the village. He really hoped that he could go live outside of the village once he became strong. He didn't like how crowded and noise cities were. It was much better on the open plains with nothing but the wind in your hair and vast stretches of land and the largest blue sky you could imagine. It was images like this that kept Minoru going in those tough times.

Apparently the fact that he moved did nothing for his training, since he kept failing. There had to be something that would make this go faster. Alas, Minoru would have to accomplish this task before he moved on. Moku-sama wouldn't have given him this task if he didn't have faith that Minoru could do it right? However the more he tried to get the cube to match up the less and less likely it seemed that it would work. Minoru began trying all kinds of different ideas that he had thought up one at a time. Try as he might, none of them seemed to work. But with every failure he encountered, he tried to think up two more possible ways to fix the problem he was having. Pragmatism was the way to go in a situation like this and nothing less than success would do.

It was times like these that Minoru wished he had someone that could give him a tip or two. Sadly he was on his own and that meant that he couldn't do anything but keep trying. It wasn't a hopeless effort. As long as there was a hundredth of a percent possibility of success he would keep trying. Other boys his age might be out training their Jutsu or looking at girls, but Minoru just wanted to complete everything one step at a time. No need to get ahead of yourself now was there? As long he could see the light at the end of the tunnel, he had a reason to continue. Although at this point it was getting a bit excessive.

Rhaim thought for a moment that he would actually get through the ropes with the other two boys without much of a problem. However he soon found his own arms being pinched even tighter against his body as Conan and the Uchiha worked their sections of the rope in a counter productive manner. Rhaim closed his eyes and lowered his head in frustration at himself for not clarifying to the other two exactly which directions they should work. With a sigh he lifted his head again and bgean pulling as much slack from the rope as he could towards Conan to his right.

While still working his section, "Uchiha, you feed all of your slack to your left. I'll feed mine to my right. Cone will then use that slack from the two of us to manipulate the knot better. Remember Cone, just feed the loose rope into the knot so that you can pass the free running end out easier."

Minoru wondered how long it would take to actually finish the cube. He knew it would take more time than it would for the noise a few yards away to die down. Those boys sure knew how to make a racket out of escaping some rope. It seemed like an odd idea to just tie three random people together in order to have them all escape from the rope. It almost felt like cheating with how they had been told to do it. Of course the ropes were being tied by someone who was good at making sure the people being tied weren't going to escape. Still it was kind of depressing that Minoru would probably be there longer than the three boys.

It appears that the cube was in fact, stronger than the rope the other students were working with. Minoru's best attempts at solving the puzzle were all being met with defeat after defeat. He wondered what other ninjas did when faced with this kind of situation. Did they find some powerful Jutsu to get them through these kinds of problems? It was entirely possible that that is what they did. Ninja were powerful after all; any one of them was able to go toe to toe with the best other villages had to offer it seemed. Perhaps it was pure fantasy to assume that to be true, Minoru knew that by making the people think that their ninjas were the best they would be less likely to revolt. Revolting peasants were bad news for everyone.

Minoru was beginning to question the idea that anyone had finished this puzzle before. It seemed like its sole purpose was to completely annoy the person who was trying to solve it. It must be good for entertaining annoying and inquisitive guests. It sure was an easy way to boggle one’s mind. Minoru hoped that he would gain some form of knowledge from this little colored cube. Confused by the supposed simplicity of the cube, it managed to look non-threatening while being a very difficult assignment. Did the other students do this assignment as well? If they hadn't they should have since it seemed to be incredibly important to their training. They should have to eventually if they haven't already. There were plenty of benefits to such training, even if most of them probably wouldn't see it like Minoru hadn't at first.
