((Okay, my excuse...exams...They're done now. And...w00t! first on page 100!))

Tura had put a shield up just in time, though only about herself.
Vilya was soaked, but still laughing.

She removed the blades from her back and kicked off her shoes, jumping into the cold water.
Tura gathered the blades and moved them away from the shore. Tura grumbled.
Vilya ignored her and dug her toes into the stony bottom of the lake, all the pebbles were smooth and soft to the touch. The water was a deep blue and Vilya ran her fingers through it happily.
"Aqus Formar." she spoke the words of the spell softly and raised her hands. A bubble of water followed, rising up out of the surface into a perfect orb under her fingers. She pushed it towards Sai.
"How are your water control spells?"
It was one of the few elements Vilya seemed to have a talent for, though her power was still not sufficient to turn it into a real weapon, she enjoyed using it to amuse others.

Kin looked to Tura and nodded as if in agreement that Sai and Vilya were wasting time. Kin sighed in a grunting, irritated fashion. "I can't believe we're just sitting around here..."

(( Yep... There's my half cent. ))

"Not exceptional." Sai said as he watched the bubble come towards him. "Nare aqua planto, congelo." He muttered pouring his energy and will out with the words.
His magic reached out to the water and formed it into the shape of a flower blossom, then it solidified into ice and fell to the surface of the lake where it sank briefly then rose back to the surface and floated there.
"Just basics. During my training my Master said I had an affinity for wind spells, so that became my focus. Wind is easy for me, it reacts to my intent without me having to be too specific with my incantations. Any other elements and I have to put some serious focus into it, and be a lot more creative with the incantation. Kinda limits what I can do..." Sai said.

Vilya looked at the flower between them. "Beautiful." she said quietly, then blinked as if waking up.
"Er, we should probably get going, it's going to take us a while to get to the town." She turned back to the shore.
Vilya heard the spell in her mind and as she stepped forward the water parted for her. It curled up and about before twisting away and breaking apart. It glittered in the sun as it formed tiny feathers instead of droplets. They floated about her delicately as she walked before falling back to merge with the lake's surface.
Vilya shot Tura a quick and irritated look when she climbed back onto the grass, her cheeks flushed;
The gryphon shrugged subtly,
Vilya used a small air-spell to dry her clothes before putting her travel-worn boots back on. The gryphon was holding her scimitars for her which she replaced on her back.
"Oh Tura..."
Tura pricked an ear at the sound of Vilya's voice.

The gryphon released the breath she had been holding and let a look of acceptance cross her harsh features.

She met Vilya's eyes and saw a slight smile in them.
"I wonder if using the dye spell we could disguise Stratus...make him a less...obvious colour?" Vilya said this aloud turning to Sai as she did so.
Tura blinked, this was not the question she had been waiting for.
Vilya thought to her companion.

Sai watched as Vilya walked back to the shore, parting the waters before her and forming the droplets as they fell. He was quite thoroughly impressed. To the point that his jaw dropped and he was unable to speak for a moment. He snapped himself out of it and was about to rain praises on her for her talent and technique when she spoke up.
"Dye Stratus' feathers?" Sai said. He thought to his partner.
Stratus responded. The crimson feathered dragon turned his attentions to the rest of their group and directed his speech to them all.

((I'll be out for a few days, till thursday, going to a dreaded place of no internet...you should go ahead to the village without me.))

"Great!" Vilya said. "Then we wouldn't have to walk to the village."
Vilya thought for a moment.
"Blue." she said finally. "Midnight blue, with sky-blue accents running down the trailing edge of each primary...and dark brown at the base."
Tura tilted her head while looking at the dragon, appraising the colours in her mind.

Vilya nodded to the gryphon and they both said the spell. Slowly the dragon's feathers began to darken and change. The new colours bled into each feather like ink in water. It wasn't long before the spell had finished its work.
"If you don't like it I can change it." Vilya said hastily, hoping Stratus did not mind her casting the spell right away. "And any truth spell will counter the effects."

Stratus thought to all around him.
The feathered dragon had stretched his wings out fully to both sides and was examining them, appraising his own new appearance. He found it to have been well done. His current coloring was nearly opposite of his old, and should do a sufficient job of throwing the imperial guards off their trail. Also, he thought it looked good on himself.
"Heh. I can feel that, Stratus." Sai said with a slight tone of teasing in his voice. "You think you look pretty good."
Stratus responded.
"I suppose that's true. You're not wrong either. Blue does look pretty good you." Sai turned so he could regard all of his companions. "Well, what do you say we get heading to the next town then?"

((All onboard to skip ahead?))

The three combatants and their partners entered the northernmost village in the early evening. They passed through the city's meager wall via its southern gate. The city, as a whole, appeared... old... The streets, the buildings; everything appeared in good condition, well maintained, but as though it had originated from a time long ago just the same.
The streets ran in neat lines with the two greatest being the ones that ran between the west and east gates, and between the south gate and the harbor. Set to one side of the harbor, atop the bluffs over the ocean, sat a castle. Made of heavy, dark, stone it was more in the style of a mansion. Not nearly the size of a full castle, or even a keep, it was still reminiscent of one.
Sai walked up the street from the southern gate. Stratus was gliding along far above the city, showing off his new colors. Sai saw a middle aged man walking by and moved towards him.
"Excuse me, sir." Sai said. "Could you tell me how to get to the Sage's school?"
"Sorry, kid." The man replied. "Here in Norcliph, we don't have a Sage's school."
Sai turned back to his friends as the man walked away down the street. "No Sage." He said, almost as if he was confused. "Well, now what do we do?"

Vilya had been looking up at Stratus, admiring his new colour when she heard Sai speak.
"Hm? Oh, that's a good question." Suddenly her eyes widened as she caught sight of something in the distance.
"Oh!" She ran forward to get a better look.
It was vast, and glittered in the sun, a huge body of water that stretched lazily out into the horizon. Before it was the harbor, in which sat two sleepy boats.
"That's it isn't it?" Vilya pointed sheepishly.
A deep laugh echoed through all their minds as Tura who had been circling above them came to land on the cobbled street.

Vilya looked at the ground, mildly embarrassed.
"I er, don't suppose we could take a closer look?"

Sai stared out at the vast body of water as well. He had never seen the ocean before either, though it didn't seem to stun him quite as much as it had Vilya. For Sai nothing was as amazing as flying high in the sky, with the clouds stretched out below him.
"I don't have any problem with it." He said. "Since there's no Sage in this village I guess we've got some time to kill. We could look around a bit and then try to find somewhere to stay for the night, head out in the morning again."

((Sorry for the delay, and the short post...))

Vilya smiled her answer and ran on ahead.
It did not take her long to reach the shore. Wood docks were built from the harbor in the center of the village, the rest of the beach was untouched, white sand.
The gentle, rhythmic sound of the waves was soothing to her ears and as she stepped onto the wet sand she could feel the salt in the air clinging to her skin.
Carefully dipped put a finger in the water and put it to her lips.
"Ah! Its salty!"
A mental laugh rang loudly in her head.

"Excuse me."

The voice startled Vilya and she turned to see an elderly man standing behind her. He was standing on the cobbled road, looking down at her, he seemed almost afraid for her.
"I wouldn't stay that close to the water if I were you."

"Why do you say that?" Sai asked of the man.
Stratus, who was soaring far above the rest of the group, was oblivious to their conversation. He was just flying over the border between land and sea when he noticed a shadow underneath the waters. Everything around it was sparkling blue as far as the eye could see, but from his convenient top down view Stratus was afforded a unique perspective on what lay beneath the water's surface. And whatever it was, it was very, very, large.

The man looked out at the horizon nervously, as if he expected something to appear.
He pointed eventually to a massive pile of lumber that had been washed up further down the beach.
"That used to be one of our best ships...since the sea monster appeared we can't get onto the sea."

Vilya followed his gaze, she could barely recognize the hull of a ship, it looked like it had imploded, or...been squeezed by something very large and very strong. She returned to the road slowly, keeping her eyes on the ocean.

"We used to be a fishing town...but with that monster out there most of the people can't go and fish. Soon we'll run out of stores to pay the empire's taxes. This town's gonna die.
The man looked sadly at the small party.
"I know you were probably looking for a place to stay, we may be able to feed you, but there just isn't enough food for your companions." He ventured a glance at Stratus soaring above them, and at Tura.

Vilya thought for a moment. staring at the sand in silence. Finally she mused; "I've never fought an underwater enemy before...I wonder how one would do that?"

((Well, I've been waiting for Adam to put in his two cents. Apparently that's not gonna happen, so I guess I'll go again....))

"There isn't anybody around here that can do anything about it?" Sai asked.
Stratus thought into his partners mind.

Stratus responded with a wordless sense of curiosity.

Sai perceived a sense of contemplation from his partner for a moment before receiving a reply.
Stratus said.

"Do you think it would be possible for a handful of traveling mages to help with this situation?" Sai asked.
