Long after the teeth faded, he stayed exactly where he was, he had no idea where to go.
It was only after some grim anxious despair that he spotted someone else over by some signs. "Easy to get lost." he said to the figure.

Defile perked his ears and raised a brow as he was addressed using the more uncommon version of his name. His real name, not the username he had chosen for this world. He wasn't sure what to make of it. Eyeing the name over the other man he read it aloud.
"Nod." It didn't ring any bells.
He squinted, suspicious, hooking his wings in front of him, everything about his posture closed off and defensive.
"Do I know you?"

"Bartholomew Mudd," he replied, extending a thin hand, with a smile that was very unlike him, in that it was sharp and insectoid.
His eyebrows knit together into an expression that was more familiar.
"It is you, isn't it. The real you. This is..." he gestured vaguely to the wood. Zar had accompanied him through dreamscapes before. "It's not mine. I...can't say I know how safe it is. Or, right, the way out." He looked back at the signs, slitted eyes narrowing. "Or how to wake up. Not that," he corrected hurriedly, "that's usually, you know, a priority, err, for me, you know, it's just," he looked slightly defeated, then repeated, "I'm not sure I like this particular arrangement. And without knowing all the rules. Or the, you know, if there's a cost involved. It is you? If it is, I'm sorry for getting you involved. If I got you involved. Zar shook the proffered hand with his usual degree of handshake, well practiced to imply he was a trustworthy individual with a sizeable...stock portfolio. He didn't bother to hide his relief that somehow he'd found who he was looking for. "It is me. The real me. From Amity" And he sounded apologetic for being that particular him, as if any number of alternatives might be preferable.
Zar's aforementioned relief was short-lived however as Barth went on to explain that this world was no of his devising at all and that he wasn't actually in control either. It was worrying and he eyed the signs himself, frowning more deeply. "No, I don't like it either." He curled his tail at the base of his hooves, resisting the urge to coil it around protectively. "I am only used to being in your dreams, with your rules and your limitations. Nevertheless I feel.." Safer. More prepared. Happier. "..better having you present. If there was anyone I should choose as a companion in a potentially hostile dream scape, I could think of none better."

"Yes. Thank you," Barth said, turning back to the signs, again with the gravity settling over him.
He should be in his element.
But he felt out of his depth.
"Well," he said, slightly more brightly, "it is a dream." At least, it was probably a dream, "and I don't tire here," not the same way he did with his usual physical limitations. It was not his body. It was not his rules. "So. You got the same directive as me, I presume. To meet the trees. And you're...an attack-oriented class, very interesting."
He took Zar's hand differently this time, a softer gesture than the handshake, which could, for a demon, escalate.
"The ground changes. And the trees...I think we'd better stick together, don't you?"

"I noticed." Zar said, regarding the lack of the usual physical limitations. "It is usually my most sure sign that we are in a dream world rather than reality." It was normally reliable but here in this strange, whimsical world it was very difficult to tell what exactly they were dealing with. "Either way it is beneficial."
He eyed his hand as it was taken. "I am not sure why I chose this specific class. It seemed appropriate. Aspirational, I suppose." He did not really deserve to be stuck by, he was almost always more of a liability than an asset, but he wanted to stay so he suppressed the desire to supply reasons why he should not.
He gave the very hostile tree a slightly perturbed look and made absolutely no move to approach it or its complaining fellow.
