"Why? Does she think the only things out at night are vampires?" Callista's tone was worried and a little defensive, though more worried than defensive.

"No, but she loves the light and everything in it," Valzar said quietly.

"Oh..." Callista looked down at the ground. "It's not like you're giving up your soul, though. You're still the Valzar she knows and loves."

Valzar frowned, "When did souls become involved. Of course she would understand that, it's just - she might be sad for me or worry for me...that's what she does..."

Callista nodded. "I see. I thought you meant that she, well, she wouldn't love you as much if she found out. That's where souls came in...but I think it's nice that she worries about you. Someone has to keep you in their thoughts when I can't."

"She has always worried for me, even though I am older. before I met you, she was the one who told me I was worth...something, that I deserved the best in my life," Valzar smiled. "I think that is why you remind me so much of her."

"I think I'd get along well with her. Anyone who tells you you're worth something is a friend of mine." She rested her head on his shoulder. "Have you ever told her that she has a double telling you that you're important?"

Valzar hesitated a beat too long, "No...I really haven't told anyone about you. At first I...I don't know what I thought. I guess part of me wanted to keep you all for myself..."

Callista blinked. "Oh. I guess that's ok. I suppose keeping me all to yourself works for me."

"I'm really not certain how my family would react to you..." he said quietly resting his chin on her head. "Synne would adore you, that much I know. But the others..."

Callista smiled. "I understand. My family isn't exactly crazy about you, either. At least, my siblings aren't. I don't think my parents know yet. My siblings are supportive, but they worry about us."

Valzar blinked at the unexpected news, uneasy at the prospect of others knowing about him, knowing about them...whatever they were when they were together. "Why do they worry?" he asked slowly.

Callista moved uneasily. "You're mortal, drow, and a warlock. That's an entirely different set of worries to go along with the usual ones. They're afraid I'm wrong and you'll become an undead. They're also afraid you'll hurt me, or use me for my abilities..." She looked up at Valzar nervously.

"I could never hurt your or abuse you in such a way," he said sickened by the thought. "Though I would rather avoid becoming the undead..."

"I know that. I also know you wouldn't be the undead. I'm your other half. There's no way you can be the undead. It's just uncommon for the male in the pairing to not be Carpathian. Your conversion means that there's a new male to teach and worry about, if you are converted."
