With the doctor and Chloe's somewhat distracting entrances, it was far too easy for Julian to remove himself from public attention. He crossed into the ballroom, walking along the edges of the arena so as not be mistaken for someone who actually found dancing enjoyable. There appeared to be something of a small crowd near the makeshift bar, and thus he avoided it. Instead, the young scientist was content to find a fairly lonely wall to lean against. For the most part, the shenanigans at the event were few, and the number of people arriving and seemingly enjoying themselves was increasing with every swing of the complex's main doors. The party was more or less a success, but as a sponsor Julian felt more detached respect than any personal pride.

Maybe he would rent the ballroom out more often.

There was something to be said about not possessing legs, in Gage's private opinion. Legs were usually attached to feet and feet made noise, whereas if one simply ended in a spiral of their being, one could move quietly. The Raevan was working his way through the birthday festivities in just such a silent manner that day, and it would have been no real surprise if Amaris did not realize the Frei had come right up next to her until he gripped her arm firmly.

Even as he was clamped onto the female's arm, his gaze was on someone else entirely. Hunching over the appendage his hands were fiercely holding onto, Gage focused on the far away spectacle of Vyn's actions within the ballroom. He had no idea why she and some others were moving in such a fashion, but something about it was highly intriguing.

Ravi felt what could best be described as an uncomfortable lurch in his stomach and a chill up his spine when Chloe put her arms around him. It was nothing against her; Chloe was as harmless as a butterfly, and Ravi was well aware of this even as his body stiffened with discomfort. A few things from his past, like dancing and touching, he tried to keep to a minimum now in his present. They were merely distractions, things that got in the way of work. But habit had gotten the best of him so that even now when he wasn't really working, he felt restrained in his actions.

The hug was quick, and the by the end of it he felt as close to awful as a static man such as himself could be. Chloe was just trying to be nice, so why did his weird reservations feel the need to tarnish a good thing?

"I can't dance." So said Chloe with a sad smile on her face. With Ravi's arrival she had stopped dancing altogether, another stab to the man's reviving sense of guilt. Had he made her feel self-conscious? It was her party. She should be able to have fun on her own birthday, especially with all that had happened to her...

He was about to speak when a familiar face addressed him with a literal "wave" of her arms. Was that... "Kim," he muttered. He'd met her in the University Library a couple months past. He had been researching mythology without really knowing what he was looking for. Would she be interested in knowing he'd found his answer? Well... he supposed that many of those here would know what he intended to do soon enough. It wasn't his primary concern for the evening.

Kim's movements had reminded Ravi what it was he wanted to say. He'd avoid dancing as long he possibly could, but that didn't mean he couldn't maybe... help Chloe feel a bit more at ease with herself.

"Just feel the rhythm," he said, tapping his finger against his thigh in time with the music. "Listen to the beat. And most of all, you must... allow yourself to move."

Mouse was caught off-guard by the pulse of music that suddenly began to shake the floor of the ballroom. She tried very hard not to groan, and almost succeeded, with only the most strangled of irritable noises rising from her throat. Why, oh why, was dance music so loud? The small green lady soon opted to move away from the speakers, and wandered around for a few seconds - weaving between dancers all the while (it's highly possible she might have bumped into one, in her current state of mental detachment). She wanted to get to know Eiry, of course... but she could barely hear herself think, and the orange-haired man had gone to sulk in a corner. Idly rubbing the back of her neck that still tingled from her contact with the minty Raevan, she soon found herself in front of the pinata.

There was a bit of waiting and glancing around to make sure nobody was about to take their turn. After that, she grabbed a stick and decided to give it a whack. Her coordination was horrible with these things... but why not? There was plenty of time to mingle and feel awkward before finding the birthday kids and giving them their presents.

Amaris 'hmm'ed in thought when Roux continued to ignore her. These half-people were very strange indeed. And... kind of... cold. Was his blood cold, too? It looked almost as if it were... freezing... She felt her curiousity growing when a voice interrupted her thoughts.

"Oh, hello!" She said, turning to Natsuki and laughing amicably. "This is a great party! Thank you very much!" She took the drink gratefully and took a small sip. Mmmm... fruity. She looked at the icy Raevan again. "So your name is Roux, huh? I'm Ama - oh!"

Startled by the sudden grip, she turned and looked under her arm, then grinned even wider. "Gage, I knew I'd find you here!" She squealed and quickly pulled him into a hug. "I've been looking for you, too! Here," she said proudly and plucked the umbrella from her drink, placing it daintily in his hair. "You look very nice."

Man, these floating torso kids were pretty cool. They were pretty okay with her. They'd make the best snugglebuddies ever. She also noted that Gage was not very cold.

"I'm Amaris!" She finished, continuing to grin. "And you should be more careful with broken glass!" This. Drink. Was. Awesome. She furtively took another sip.

Natsuki smiled at the woman, and jumped in surprise when she did. Gage had joined them, too, which made the redhead smile brightly. It had been a while since they had last met, so she gave Gage a bright smile as well. "Long time no see, Gage." Natsuki smiled, holding out a cup for him as well. "Would you like a drink?"

She giggled, as Amaris snuggled with Gage. Natsuki loved hugs, especially with people who were good at hugging, like this woman. Seeing her put the paper umbrella in Gage's hair, Natsuki plucked the one from her own and did the same, but putting it in her own hair.

"My name's Natsuki," she grinned, taking Amaris' compliments to heart. She was genuinely thrilled people were enjoying the festivities. "That's one heck of a hug!"

The world narrowed down to one point in front of him. Like someone waving red in front of a bull, Roux focused all of his attention on Gage. He gripped Rivener's upper arm tightly, dropping his last shard of glass and letting it tinkle to the ground. He extended the same hand, finger trembling, at the offending Raeven.

The temperature dropped slightly, not the mind-numbing freeze that Roux had produced before. This was more of a gentle decline, like someone had turned the air conditioner to as cold as it could go. His voice was rough, more a growl than a word.

"You."

It was quiet obvious that this was by far Roux's least favorite being. Gage was appauling to all his senses. "Ugly you monster pain bring hate." Everything came out as one furious hiss and Roux pressed closer into Rivener, half defending, half using him as a shield from the abomination.

Chloe shyly looked up at Ravi as he began suggesting how to dance. She bit her lip and gave a small nod, finding the rhythm in the catchy song. "O-Oh..."

So much for having some pleasant, casual drinks. Natsuki's jaw dropped when Roux started calling Gage names. She had seen the ice Raevan upset, but never so laced with spite. Her eyes narrowed, especially when the temperature started to drop again. Turning and setting the tray on a nearby table, Natsuki stay close to the three Frei, hoping to contain any possible disasters. The last thing she wanted was for Chloe's fun to be interrupted.

"Roux, now is not the time for this," Natsuki said sternly, tilting her head and watching Roux's body language with Rivener. "Today is a special day for Chloe, so no fighting, please." Her voice was clear, earnest, and almost matronly. The last time Roux got upset and she intervened, the Icy Raeven used a powerplay to 'accept' her apology However, Natsuki would be damned, if her friend's fun would be compromised by her charge's temper tantrum.

To accentuate her point, Natsuki took a step between the Frei, leaving Roux and Rivener on one side and Amaris and Gage on the other. Crossing her arms, Natsuki waited patiently. If the wanted to pick a fight, they were going to have to go through her. She knew that neither Roux nor Rivener had any reason to listen to her, as she wasn't their guardians, but she hoped they'd have the common sense and decorum to respect the rules of the party.

"Amaris, would you mind taking Gage to a warmer location, please?" Natsuki said, looking over her shoulder at Gage with a softer smile.

Valen rather quickly found out that nearly everyone was inside ... and with a slight sigh, he resigned himself to being embarrased. Walking up to the door, he peeked inside ... didn't seem to be any sort of guard or butler or anything. Simply a room full of people and ... what looked like strange, floating half-people. Of a sort. Nearly all of those had wings of some sort, and some were even more fantastical.

Ice-blue eyes widened and Valen considered just ... turning and leaving right then. But now, his curiousity was piqued and he was already stepping inside, just in time to witness the beginnings of a fight between a few of the half-people. Blinking, he decided he'd better stay clear of that.

Looking around, he figured ... there were enough people here that perhaps one extra wouldn't be noticed right away. And perhaps in the meantime, he could find someone to ask some questions.

Though he knew something of Amaris' demeanor, Gage had not quite expected to be dragged into such a tight embrace. All the same, he humored the woman and stood still while she hugged him, only mildly frowning as she placed what seemed to be a tiny parasol in his hair. As soon as she looked away, he shook his head lightly, letting the object fall onto the ground where it would hopefully fail to be noticed by its former owner. Once the deed was done, the green Frei went immediately back to his previous occupation of watching Vyn's activities on the dance floor. The Natsuki lady's offer of a drink just barely made a blip on his mental radar, and was dismissed somewhat politely with a small look and additional shake of his head.

Roux, however, did not fail to receive Gage's interest as soon as he began to speak. There was a strange amount of apathy in the older Raevan's eyes as he listened to the other's tirade, and one could only imagine he might even have offered a smirk if he had lips available for viewing. His strangely inverted eyes did not bother being subtle as he scrutinized the ice Frei's connection to Vyn's male twin.

Before Gage could speak, Natsuki tried to interrupt the exchange. He simply waited until she was finished speaking to make his retort.

"I knew that, Roux."

Amaris recoiled, bewildered. Okay, uh, there was some major bad mojo between the two, apparently, and, uh, it was way too cold now. She resisted the urge to rub her goose-bumps before Natsuki stepped between the two parties.

"Happy to oblige," she squeaked, halfway through taking a step back. "I'll catch you later, Natsuki, okay? Gage, let's go. Let's go look at the pinata." She didn't even notice that he had discarded of her decoration as she let him out of her embrace long enough to grab his hand and tug at it gently.

"Absolutely, Amaris, thanks again," Natsuki nodded, giving a small smile. A slight sigh of relief escaped her lips as Amaris agreed to relocate with Gage, but it was quickly followed by a sinking feeling as Gage openly confirmed the hateful comments that Roux threw at him. Sadness glossed her eyes briefly, wondering what on Earth could make the radioactive Raevan think such things about himself. Shaking her head, she simply leveled her gaze with Roux again.

After Chloe excused herself from the two children, they wished her one more final, "Happy Birthday" as she departed. With their well wishes, two waves were also given to Chloe. Tyson had begun to recover from his giggle fit he had broken into after Chloe had rested her hand on his head. While he fought that battle, Lillian was working over the compliment she had received. What a sweet young woman that Chloe was! She still could not get over how kind the pink haired lady was.

As soon as Chloe had vanished within the crowd, the siblings looked to one another, both wondering what they should do next. They had just wished a Happy Birthday to the young miss that they were there for so....now what? They couldn't just stand around for the rest of the party.

The eldest of the two quickly scanned her eyes through the party once more. There was a great handful of people, many of whom she just couldn't place. Wait...maybe she did know a few. Some of the women that were here were the ones she had met that night at the bar!

Uh oh...the bar! Hopefully, if she did speak to any of them tonight, it wouldn't be brought up with Tyson so close by. Lillian wanted to remain a good role model figure to her younger brother. If he found out about the bar, and her actually becoming drunk was found out, Tyson might just start following after these bad actions.

"Lillian! Pinata time! I wanna do the pinata!" Tyson suddenly told his sister as he gave her dress a sudden tug. In the process of his action, the youngster was careful not to rip her dress. He just wanted to get her attention so they could go do something. Making contact with the person you were trying to reach was the best known way to Tyson of knocking them back into reality.

"Well..." Lil had returned from her thoughs, and hesitantly peered over to where the game was being held. There were a few people gathered around it now, hopefully the ones who were had spaced themselves out amongst one another. The teenager knew that it would also be a nice quality if these people had good eyesight and reflexes It wouldn't be good if Tyson managed to whack anyone while he was in the process of trying his luck at the pinata.

"Okay, but you have to promise me you'll be extra careful. Some of these guys seem...ya know..." To show Tyson what she meant, Lil gave one of her hands a rocking motion from side to side. In their terms, that would mean iffy or uneasy. That description fit some of the characters that stood in this very room quite well. Tyson learned that the hard way when he had stumbled into the Valetine's day event.

As he thought of the different kinds of personalities that were surrounding them. Tyson finished his thoughts with a nod directed towards his sister. Today, he didn't see anything wrong with any of the people here. At the event, after his run in with Roux, he thought the same way too. During the get-together, from what he had seen , the raevan's remained in great condition! There were a few new ones here he hadn't met before, but that would be more excitement that Ty would eagerly soak in. There was also Chloe, who was simply stunning n her beautiful gown! The rest of the guests looked happy as well, for they either stood around chatting, or strutting their stuff on the dance floor.

Surely it was simply his sister's paranoia that caused her to become so anxious and nervous. Yet, he had dealt with her unease for as long as he could remember. Certainly, a party such as this, would be no different from their past expreiences. "Now! Hurry! Let's go quick before the goodies are gone!" Tyson cried, his serious thoughts vanishing to be tucked away for another day. Now, he had become a child again with no worry or fear. He was here to enjoy himself, and that pinata was just calling to him to whack it with all his might!

Throwing her head back exultantly when Natsuki hit it with "Get Low", the party veteran dipped and whirled to the beat, now undulating bewitchingly, now dropping low to the floor, now swaying her hips with the flow of the music. It seemed like ages (or maybe it was only last night) when a party had played one of her favorite club songs. Her enthusiasm faded, however, once some random techno song replaced the hip-hop beats of Lil' Jon. The whole trance/techno thing was....well, raves could definitely be fun, but she had long outgrew them since high school. "I'm gonna go for a drink," she informed her charge, who gave her the tiniest look of barely-distuinguishable disappointment on her normally stone-blank features that Shuura rolled her eyes and promised Vyn that they'd dance again later.

Leading the way off the dance floor, her long ponytail flowing from side to side as she walked, Shuura made a beeline towards the bar. Hot from dancing, she welcomed the blast of cool air that hit her, but failed to notice anything out of the ordinary about it.

Vyn, however, was much more sensitive to the change in the room temperature, and the rosy-haired Frei immediately stopped in her tracks, narrowing her eyes until they were but slits of ebony and gold peeking out beneath thick lashes and shadowed lids.

It was the work of the icy one, no doubt. Shifting her gaze around the ballroom, Vyn soon caught sight of him. Why was Rivener with him? Vyn was troubled. She looked up to Rivener as a source of comfort, but witnessing him associating so closely to the hostile icy frei produced decidedly conflicting feelings within her. In her mind, what she found pleasant was and should be fully seperate from that which she found unpleasant, and seeing the two mixed together was decidedly...unsettling. And then there were the confusing in-betweens, such as Shuura, whom she was reluctantly dependent on, and also Gage, whom she found neither pleasant nor unpleasant, merely...bland. She finally noticed his prescence, next to another odd being who clung to him rather closely. Natsuki stood in the midst of it all, her gaze away from Vyn and settled firmly on Roux.

Eyeing Shuura who was unconcernedly advancing towards the scent of liquor and fruit and placing herself in an area too close to the awkward stand-off for Vyn's comfort, the Shadow Raevan chose instead to head in a different direction, having no desire to concern herself with the little tirade created by her fellow kind.

The temperature in the room suddenly lowered a bit. Mouse didn't think much of it and had another go at the pinata; the music drowned out any conversation she might have heard the Raevans having on the other side of the ballroom. So what if the temperature got a little cooler? It would make the cake and food taste better.

She had turned around to look for where she had gotten the stick from to make sure she could put it back in the right place, and quickly noticed that Roux was no longer in his corner. Was he so dejected that he had left the party altogether? ...No, he was over there a bit, standing--- er-- floating closely next to a particularly handsome-looking Raevan of red and black, looking as if he were ready to assault that green one she remembered seeing once upon a time. The mask made it hard to judge, but he didn't look particularly happy... there was also another red-and-black (but female) one not too far off, who also looked somewhat uncomfortable.

Four beings that fused science and magic for the sake of their creation, all looking like they were about to have a standoff, from Mouse's somewhat overactive imagination. But overimaginative or not, she stepped a little ways closer to have a better look without trying to look suspicious. The table of appetizers seemed a good place to observe from, and there she went, taking a plate and piling a selected handful onto it.
