It is a bit of a reach but it is also a strong connection. The only problem is you have to be looking for the connection.

Look at the similarities between RotJ and RotS:
1) The names. Especially consider the irony of the RotS name...
2) Fight for the soul of Anakin Skywalker.
3) Big foresty planets/moons. (Endor and Kashyyyk)

Yep. There's also a lesser panda that most people don't know about, that looks like a cross between a racoon and a panda.
