Well, I would imagine that it wouldn't be any different from any other family that rules an entire kingdom, Gion shrugged. He warmed up the glowstone again because its light was dying. Everyone wants to sit on the throne, and of course there are people ahead of them in line.
He paused thoughtfully. I wonder who's next in line now that Elnara's gone ...

I suppose..... really don't see the fuss about sitting on a large chair. It's a bothersome to rule, you have to keep this people happy and that people happy and often the best thing for the kingdom is the one thing that will make you not liked.... politics... are bothersome...
Daemon had his share of politics fortunately not to that level.
Hmm... probably the next eldest?
He offered.
Or the most suited.... whichever way it is for you home.

Well it's always gone down to the eldest female in the family, Gion replied. At the moment it's mother, but since she's been chased out she's sort of not eligible ... not to mention the fact that she's not an Aldrich by blood ... so the next female is my sister-in-law Luthien, but again she's not a blood Aldrich and hasn't been trained for it - though I suppose she could. I don't know who Nako would choose then.
He shrugged. Perhaps she'll wait for a female grandchild or something. You never know. At the moment, I can't see her choosing any of my brothers.

Ah... a matercarhy... I haven't seen one of those.
Daemon had to admit that owuld make things difficult if Elnara had been the only female by blood.
Well she does have a long life ahead of her, she could afford to wait for a girl child. Have any cousins? Second cousins? If you claim she wouldn't be willing to choose one of your brothers.

Only that live in the Westland, Gion answered. But the problem there is, they're heirs to THAT kingdom. My aunt, the only blood Aldrich, married the prince there - though they're childless so far.

Well that is problematic....
And while there had been times in the history of certain countries where a ruler would rule over two countries, Daemon wouldn't suggest it. One there wasn't a lot of kingdoms in this country to begin with and two... well the Queen could wait.
Better left up in hoping for a girl child then, otherwise she'll have to choose a male.

Gion nodded. One or the other, he agreed. And I won't lie, I think a neice would be nice.
He chuckled. Can you imagine having a queen calling you uncle?

Daemon chuckled at that imagine.
Now there's a thought, a very amusing one at that.

Gion came to the hole in the path again and started around it on the ledge.
Then again, there are some people who deserve respect they don't ask for, he added, edging along carefully. Take Ulani for example. She was once the heir to the throne, but she passed it off and even though she's no less a princess now than she was then, she doesn't tell anyone because she doesn't want to be treated any differently than anyone else.

She's the one who lives in the Borderlands am I right?
Daemon asked. Now that was an interesting thought, though understandable, not everyone wanted to be treated differently. Interestingly enough those were the people who should be in charge.

She is indeed, Gion replied, concentrating on getting across the gap.

Daemon let Gion focus on that, it should be an interesting trip indeed.
He just personally hoped no one thought Gion was nuts like last time.

I heard that, Gion grinned. And they had reason to believe I was nuts, I kept doing strange things at random times. But I'm more used to having you around now, I think I can keep people from thinking I'm mad.
He made it safely to solid ground and breathed a silent sigh of relief.

Yes well... talking to a sword you can only hear in your head does that.
Daemon replied back drly.
I just don't want people to think removing me is good for your mental health... or worse yet being melted down.

I won't let anyone do that, Gion promised. As he approached the mouth of the cave, he was surprised to see that it was dark outside - completely. It was a new moon, and so of course there was no moonlight, and it seemed, by the position of the stars, to be past midnight.
Well, he grinned. Looks like it's time to sleep ... though I'm not really tired. Perhaps we could try that magic thing you were talking about earlier?
