Ayvia was horrified, her friend.....had just gotten hurt........ The little hatchling screeched in anger; biting down rather hard on the paw holding her, she wiggled free and raced over to Syla. Squeaking softly, she nuzzled her friend, licking the sweat from her face.
"It's okay, little one! I'm fine....really." Syla attempted to sit up but almost fell face-first into the ground.
Watching her friend, Ayvia crawled up the un-injured side of Sylas' back, nuzzling the wounds with hopes of making them feel better.

Rin walked back over to Maderik and settled down next to him, but still out of reach for physical contact. She sat with her spine rigid and her muscles tense. Maderik just let her be.
"Now that the hatchlings are gone..." one of the adults said, their attention focusing back on Syla, "Tell us the name of the one who gave you that egg, be it human or dragon. And tell us your purpose in trying to reach the mountains and why you have kept that hatchling with you."

Zera saw a dragon run into some bushes. She darted out of her tree and jumped to the ground to see whom. It was asariel. Joyously, she tugged on his tail and darted out of the bushes again, running deeper into the forest. She hoped he would follow.

"Well........" Syla thought back for a moment, Ayvia having moved from her back to a spot on her humans' lap. "Zrack....my great-grandfathers' dragon gave Ayvia to me just before he and grandfather pasted into the spirit realm. He said that she was the last child he and his mate had ever clutched; so it seemed fitting that his companions' grandaughter should care for his child." She laughed, gently scratching Ayvia. "I know it seems far-fetched.....even I didn't believe it at the time...."
"As for your other questions, Lord Dragon.......I was told there was a High Priest of sorts living in the mountains.....so I thought he would be able to help me." Reaching over, she held out the parchment map to the speaker dragon. "As for Ayvia......well, I couldn't just leave her alone, could I?"

The sudden tug on his tail surprised a blort from Asariel and he turned around quickly, chest all puffed out and trying to look dangerous. He looked kinda like a balloon. Once he saw it was only Zera, he relaxed and chirped cheerfully before bounding after her. Hey! Now that the dragons were all busy with the human, he and Zera could explore!
The day’s lesson---which was mostly comprised of ‘Listen to adult dragons or you’ll get your tail pulled by humans’---was already forgotten, it seemed. Then again, they had never really told him to stay there…

The dragon looked at the map briefly.
"The high priest you speak of is nothing more than a crazy old man," the dragon replied, "He won't be able to help you with anything. That and he lives further west than your map shows."
"We need to convene a clan meeting," a female dragon said softly, "Away from the hatchery. Maderik, I know how much you dislike these meetings - would you be so kind as to take the human and the hatchling away from here and keep them safe until we reach a decision?"
"I don't have a choice, do I?" he replied.
"Not really. You two... search the area. Make sure she is the only human nearby. You... call in the rest of the clan. Everyone else meet at the circle within the hour."
She rose into the air and one by one the dragons broke off to their own business. Rin glanced over at Maderik.
"They're really leaving the hatchlings alone?" she whispered.
"This area is safe. They can explore."
He stood and walked over to Syla.
"Well? Climb on." And he knelt so that his back was easily accessable.
((and we finally got rid of all the nameless extras... thank goodness))

"Well.........I just hope everything turns out for the better....." Grasping the black dragons' mane, Syla pulled herself onto his back.
"Um.......if you don't mind me asking, Maderik....sir, where are you taking Ayvia and I?"
Ayvia chirped softly from her usual place around Sylas' shoulders. Purring, she projected her worries and fears towards Rin and the dragon. They wouldn't take me from Syla......would they?

"I'm taking you to where we live. Rin, hurry up."
The girl muttered and walked over, climbing up behind Syla and tucking her legs around the bones of the wings.
"Hang on," she said and Maderik leapt into the sky, spreading his wings and carrying them up above the trees.
You going to answer them? Rin asked mentally of Maderik.
Let them worry. I do not care.

So this is what it's like to fly........small wonder so many dragons have hated humans. "So...uh, what's your name? I don't believe we've met before!" Syla turned half-way, grinning at the girl sitting behind her.
Ayvia gave a happy squeak from her place in Sylas' arms. This was flying?! It was so wonderful! She couldn't wait to have her own wings one day.

Zera chirped happily when she saw Asariel had followed. Zera nipped playfully at Asariels tail then darted off into the forest, expecting him to follow. She stopped surprised and stared up above her. A dragon was flying above. In pure curiosity she ran in the general direction of the dragons flying.

"I'm Rin," she said, her eyes fixed on Maderik's head and nothing else, "I belong to Maderik here. We'll be at my home here shortly - Maderik flies fast."

Zera’s expectations were completely correct as Asariel chortled and nipped right back at Zera, trying to get her tail again. Chasing after her for a few yards, he ran into her as she stopped.
“Blort?” he said before following her gaze up towards the dragon flying overhead. For a moment, the little hatchling was in awe of the flying figure. It was just so… big. And flying! How could it do that? He couldn’t fly! Zera couldn’t fly! There was the case in which a hatchling had landed on Zera’s head, but that wasn’t flying either. Without waiting for a cue from Zera, he ran after the flying figure, wondering where it was going so quickly. He also wondered if there would be food when they got there because he was getting a little hungry again.

Sabin was bolting around quite contentedly...wandering back to his Human every so often when called for or looked at strangely, mainly out of pure curiosity or just wanting to show Aiden what was going on and what he had found. Lower pitched noises escaped him...some kind of murring, merfing and blarking noises, which was strange...he was vocal, at the moment.
Aiden didn't find this weird at all...listening to the little dragon try out his voice and such made him chuckle. Whenever the dragon did wander back to him, he cooed and rubbed the dragon's head.

She laughed, brushing loose strands of hair out of her face. "That's always a good thing, no? My name is Syla, as you can tell...i'm not from around here." Turning away from Rin, the healer stared at the sights around them while keeping a grip on Ayvia to prevent her from falling.

"I'd consider that debatable," Rin said and closed her eyes, "Hang on again. He'd going to land."
And Maderik closed his wings, causing the ground to lurch up sickingly towards them and after a few more seconds of drop he hit the ground, running to spend the rest of his momentum, and then he sagged to the ground to let his riders off. They were on the crest of a small hill where the trees cleared out somewhat to reveal an old ruin that had been partially rebuilt in one coner.
"It's not much," Rin said, sliding off the dragon's back, "but it'll do. There's not much space inside the house part but I doubt you'll be staying the night. Dragons tend to be decisive in this clan and don't spend much time bickering like they do elsewhere."
