You know, responses provoke responses.
So if you don't respond, you can avoid things like this, but people by nature always like to be right. (Or want the last say.)
I'm not placing any blame on anyone, just don't respond.
Violence begets violence.
Now, I'm a meat lover. I love meat. I love meat and taters. Absolutely delicious.
I don't worry about the diseases meat contains for if cooked well enough, I find myself to feel safe. I love me brocolli. That stuff tastes good. Especially with the ketchup and meat and taters.
I choose not to be a vegetarian because I love the taste of meat too much. biggrin

Ascott Celestial Burden Ascott Celestial Burden ~lizzerde~ why is it that religon is always sucked into heated discussions? confused i mean i know it's a legitimate discussion point here... but the way it's been discussed has had almost no relation to the topic of foods people choose not to eat. confused maybe i'm blind to it. but i don't see any relevance of the heated arguments on religious aspects to food. No, Lizz, you're right. They way the discussion was carried on was completely irrelevent to the topic. I made a point about my religion stating why some witches were vegtarians, that's it. however, when he started telling sanzo what religion she could and could not follow he took things too far I think. I really don't think there is much left to discuss here. If you'll notice, I took great care not to debate your religion with you. My religion, on the other hand... That isn't the point. What I was saying was that you do not have the right to tell someone what religion they follow. If sanzo believes in the Catholic principles and calls herself Catholic, she's catholic. end of story. Now, I'm going to try for the third time to get you to answermy question. Acoording to you we are above animals and therefore have the right to do whatever we want. Does this give us the right to be cruel to animals? All the principles. Picking and choosing the ones she likes is a bastardisation of the religion. If she follows all of them, she's Catholic. There's nothing more to it. Yes, technically, humans have the right to be cruel to animals, if they're so inclined. Luckily, I also have the right to stop anyone I see being cruel to an animals. Which I would utilise to the fullest extent. In that situation, whichever one of us "won" the ensuing conflict would continue to enjoy his rights uninterrupted. Right, I really am going to bed. Well then, you do understand that these animals that are killed for food are treated very cruely, correct? Some people really do try to stop this by not eating meat. That makes perfect sense to me. The animals are killed in a painfukl way, and some people feel guilty that they are eating the product of animal cruelty.

Ascott The-Mut-Cat Ascott The-Mut-Cat Ascott The-Mut-Cat Wasn't it you who said "humans are at the top of the food chain"? Yep, we're at the top. If an animal lower down on it thinks it can eat me, it's welcome to try. It might succeed. If so, it doesn't mean that humans as a species are any less low on the food chain; just that the bear/wolf/pig got lucky. ok... is that based on your religious beleifs, or what? What religion are you? Partially on the idea that we're inherently superior; partially on the idea that it took 50,000 or so years of evolution to get to this point, and that we owe it to our ancestors to be the ones eating the other animals. so we inherited superiority? even though, today, I doubt many humans could hunt and kill "prey" even with the aid of hunting tools, while wild animals do it without any technological help... We invented those weapons. We have a right to use them. Yes. We inherited superiority through X-many thousand years of our species struggling to survive. Now, we're on top. confused I dunno... that just sounds like our ancestors, or the inventors in particular, were superior to us... cuz, y'know, I don't think you can make a gun yourself... :/ Oh well, I'm just attempting to figure out why you even bothered to ask "why" when you already seem to have the "right" idea all figured out... My answer to that would simply be that not everybody thinks the same as you do... and thus follow different logic.

Why are you not a vegetarian?

I'm not a vegetarian because I do not find it wrong to eat meat. While I do wish there was a way I could stop them from being killed in such brutal fashions, I'm a minor and therefore my opinion doesn't really matter to most people.

Yes Burden, you may have not walked on this Earth for as many moons as others, but you're still capable of advanced thought and logic unlike many other adults.
biggrin
I just can't resist meat. I can go without it for awhile, but I love eating it.
