#133 Eevee User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: The "Eevee" name is a shortening of the word evolution, which this species specializes in, as it has the ability to evolve into any of seven different species of Pokémon.[1] In the beta versions of the first Pokémon games, this Pokémon bore the name Eon,[2] the ending suffix for all the official English names of Eevee's evolutionary forms known so far. The Japanese name is a portmanteau of the transliterations for the letters "E" and "V", likely referring to evolution. The name Eevee refers to individuals of the species in the games, anime, and manga, and to the species as a whole.

Poke'dex Entry: Eevee are described as small quadrupedal mammals, mostly covered with brown fur, with light tufts of tan fur around their neck. Their appearance is similar to that of the fennec fox, due to their large ears, bushy tail, and a similar size and color. Eevee's design may have also been inspired by the character Teto from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, who also resembles the fennec or a puppy.

At first glance, Eevee are said to be just unremarkable Normal-type Pokémon, with above average intelligence and excellent eyesight, smell, and hearing. However, their DNA is uniquely structured.[1] Eevee has earned its place in Pokémon history because it has seven different evolutions, as well as being the only First-Generation Pokémon to start out with the ability to evolve into multiple Pokémon (although other First Generation Pokémon have the ability to evolve into more than one kind of Pokémon, the ability only became apparent in later games, such as Gold or Silver). Domesticated Eevee would be made to evolve using elemental stones, but wild Eevee would evolve depending on the environment.[1] Other things that affect Eevee DNA are tameness, the time of day, and certain locations.

How environmental influences directly affect Eevee evolution is unclear. Specific anime episodes, like Clefairy and the Moon Stone (#6), have shown that elemental stones can exist naturally, and even fragments of these stones can bring about evolution. Eevee evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon by exposure to the radiation given off by Water Stones, Thunder Stones, and Fire Stones, respectively. The natural sediments of these elemental stones may be what would cause wild Eevee to evolve in the wild.[1]

If stones are not used, the Eevee evolutionary path will naturally follow one associated with their relationships with their trainers or other caretakers. Eevee that reach a certain level of tameness or "friendship" can evolve into the Psychic-type Espeon while it is daytime, or into the Dark-type Umbreon during the night.[1]

Eevee's mutable DNA is also affected by two specific locations in the Sinnoh region. When near the Moss Rock, Eevee can evolve into the Grass-type, Leafeon. When near the Ice Rock, the Ice-type Glaceon, can be obtained.[4]

All Eevee evolutions have similar characteristic on their eyes, except on Umbreon's, which is slightly different on color. Only Flareon and Jolteon maintain the tufts of fur around their neck (though Vaporeon has a collar-like fin around its neck).

#134 Vaporeon User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: Vaporeon's name is derived from the word vapor, the steam produced by boiling water. The -eon element is common to all the official English names of Eevee evolutions known to date. Its Japanese name refers to the word shower, as in a sprinkling of rain or water.

Poke'dex Entry: Vaporeon is a quadrupedal mammal that shares characteristics of cats, dogs and aquatic creatures. It is roughly the same size as the gray wolf. Vaporeon has smooth turquoise skin, fin-like ears on the sides and a fin on top of its head, a weblike collar around its neck, a long, mermaid-like tail backed with ridges, and fins on its head and the end of its tail. Vaporeon also has gills that allow it to breathe below water, in addition to its above-water lungs. Of all the different Eevee evolutions by elemental stones, Vaporeon is known to change the most. Vaporeon's cells are similar in structure to water molecules, and this allows it to have a unique control over the water around it. It is also able to actually transform itself into liquid as a form of camouflage. This ability also gives the Pokémon extremely high defensive capabilities as physical attacks have almost no effect on its flexible liquid form. When its fins begin to vibrate, it is a sign that rain will come within a few hours. Vaporeon's preferred habitat is the peaceful coast of a lake, where it is sometimes mistaken for a mermaid.

#135 Jolteon User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: Jolteon's name is derived from jolt, a sharp movement most beings experience when being electrically shocked.[3] The -eon element is common to all the official English names of Eevee evolutions known to date. Its Japanese name refers to thunder, the sound that accompanies lightning.

Poke'dex Entry: Jolteon is a quadrupedal mammal that bears traits of mainly of dogs, foxes (especially fennec foxes), and porcupines. Despite sharing physical traits with the fennec, Jolteon is much larger than the actual fox and falls into the height and weight range of the gray wolf. Jolteon is covered with spiky, bright yellow fur, with white spiky fur surrounding its neck. Its fur sparks with electricity, and it is able to use its spiky fur as a weapon. Out of all the Eevee evolutions, Jolteon is the one that appears most canine thus making more based off a dog. It has a small stubby tail, also hinting to a dog. Jolteon is most likely based upon the legendary Japanese animal, the raiju.

Jolteon is able to gather negative ions from the atmosphere, using the resulting electricity to create lightning bolts of up to 10,000 volts. Its individual cells also create small electrical charges on their own, which combined with the static electricity caused by its body can result in powerful Electric-type attacks.

Jolteon is typically a sensitive Pokémon. It is said that it charges whenever its mood changes. Jolteon is a Pokémon which has electricity rather than blood running through its veins. This charges up Jolteon, and it can reach incredible speeds when running (it is one of the fastest Pokémon). Its fur, which is normally soft to the touch, turns into sharp needles when it is angered. It can fire these needles at its opponent, which makes sense why it can learn the move Pin Missile.

#136 Flareon User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: Flareon's name is derived from flare, a sudden burst of fire that serves as a strong light source. Its Japanese name may refer to rocket boosters, which propel things by combustion of fuel. The suffix -eon is shared by all the official English names of Eevee evolutions known.

Poke'dex Entry: Flareon are a quadrupedal species that bear physical traits of foxes. It escpecially bears resemblence to the red fox. It falls into the height and weight range of the gray wolf. Flareon's head, ears, torso, and legs are covered with short, red-orange fur, while large tufts of yellow fur are found between its ears, and around its neck and tail. The coloration of its fur causes many to remark that it resembles fire.

The Pokédex states that Flareon are able to store amazing amounts of heat in their bodies. Although their fluffy fur helps to give off excess heat by directing it along the hairs and away from the Pokémon, their body temperatures may still reach or even exceed 1,650°F (about 900°C). When they use this heat for Fire-type attacks, the fire can reach temperatures of nearly 3,100°F (about 1705°C). Flareon launch fire attacks from an internal "flame sack". When they are not in battle, it is possible to touch a Flareon without getting burnt, despite its internal heat.

#137 Porygon User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: The name "Porygon" originates from the word polygon, which is used to make up a three-dimensional computer image.

Poke'dex Entry: Porygon is the first man-made Pokémon, the product of extensive research by the fictional company Silph Co. It is special among Pokémon in that it consists entirely of programming code. This unique origin gives Porygon many traits and abilities related to computers. Porygon, for example, does not need to breathe, so people are eager to use it in any environment, even ones normally considered inhospitable.

Porygon is also capable of moving freely in cyberspace, which it can enter by converting itself entirely back to program data. The code that makes up Porygon is copy protected in order to prevent its illegal duplication. Otherwise, this code is fairly basic, limiting Porygon to certain pre-programmed motions, actions and reactions.

In the Pokémon world as well as the Pokémon video games (see below), Porygon is only available as a prize of slot machines. As a result, a large number of people have taken to playing the slots seeking to win a Porygon. Porygon owners, however, view them as novelties and prefer showing them off rather than using them in battles against other Pokémon.

#138 Omanyte User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: Omanyte resembles a squishy blue ammonite with a white shell. It evolves into Omastar. Omanyte's name is a portmanteau of the English word ammonite, and "omu", the Japanese word for nautilus. This is because Omanyte resembles the extinct ammonite. Or the "O" in Omanyte was received because it's shell is circle similar to the shape of the letter "O" and the "manyte" was taken from ammonite. In the beta version of Pokémon, Omanyte was known as Ess, and its evolved form was named Kargo. When the two beta names are combined, they form the word "Ess-Kargo", a homonym of the French word escargot, meaning snail. (This pun would be later revisited in Pokémon Gold and Silver with the introduction of Magcargo).

Poke'dex Entry: Omanyte has been given two different origin stories, one from the video games, and one from the animé:

In the video games, an Omanyte fossil is brought back by "cloning" the pokémon.
In the animé, Omanyte are erroneously thought to be extinct, but in at least two different places they are found to be alive, albeit in hibernation: in Grandpa Canyon, and in the Ruins of Alph.
In either case, Omanyte is one of the oldest species of Pokémon.

Omanyte is a subterranean Pokémon. It has been described as both an insectivore and a plankton-eating filter feeder by canon sources; it is not certain if one of these sources is incorrect, or if it is capable of both. It has 10 arms, and can use air bladders in its shell to rise and fall in the water.

#139 Omastar User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: The name "Omastar" derives from the same origins of the name "Omanyte" -- the "ammonite", "omu" - the Japanese word for nautilus - and the word "star". Its English name was originally going to be "Kargo" (see Omanyte).

Poke'dex Entry: Omastar is an ancient Pokémon which resembles an ammonite. It can withdraw into its shell to shield its soft, blue flesh from damage and fire volleys of sharp spikes from its outer-shell. It is speculated that Omastar went extinct due to its heavy shell making it too sluggish to capture prey.

Omastar has a very sharp beak, resembling canine teeth, adorning its mouth. This makes Omastar capable of cracking through the shells and hard hides of other gastropods and crustaceans, such as Shellder, and sucking out their soft innards; but not before sedating its prey by constricting them with its long tentacles.

#140 Kabuto User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts:The name "Kabuto" derives from 兜 kabuto, the Japanese word for helmet, and 兜蟹 kabutogani, the Japanese name of the Horseshoe crab, the animal on which Kabuto is based. In the English translation, Kabuto's name was originally going to be Att, which - when followed by its evolved name of Lantis (later known as Kabutops) - is a pun reference to Atlantis.

Poke'dex Entry: As described above, Kabuto takes its appearance from the real world horseshoe crab. Since it is an ancient prehistoric Pokémon its design may be a combination of modern Horseshoe Crab and the prehistoric Trilobite. This is supported by Kabuto's lack of a tail, which Trilobites do not possess. It is likely intended to be a xiphosurid, with the Xiphosura containing many prehistoric species. It is crustacean in appearance, covered in a hard brown shell that has two small, dot-like eyes. Underneath the shell Kabuto's true form is obscured in darkness; the only features visible are four scuttlers and a pair of luminous red eyes.

Kabuto is a Pokémon that was once thought to be extinct. However, modern technology of the Pokémon world allowed scientists to clone Kabuto using genetic material extracted from fossils found on what once was the sea bed. Thus, the species has now been revived and re-introduced to the environment. Since then, living examples have been found extremely rarely, indicating that Kabuto's extinction was not so absolute as once thought after all.

Kabuto has made very few appearances in the Pokémon anime.

Kabuto has existed in its current form for about 300,000,000 years. It is an aquatic Pokémon that used to hide on the sea floor, which is how some Kabuto became fossils in the first place. While concealed in this way, Kabuto leaves exposed only its hard shell, which protects it from any attacks, while the eyes on its back allow it to continue monitoring its surroundings. If Kabuto were to assume an upside-down position, its fortune would similarly turn around: it is helpless and defenceless in such a state, unable to flip over on its own.

According to the anime, oil extracted from a Kabuto is rumoured to have interesting medical properties, longevity being one of them.

#141 Kabutops User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: The name "Kabutops" derives from the same origins of the name "Kabuto" - Japanese for helmet and Horseshoe crab, and the "Triops". Its English name was originally going to be Lantis, whilst Kabuto was to be called Att (a pun slyly referencing Atlantis).

Poke'dex Entry: Kabutops is an amphibious relative of the crab. Although it lives in water, and can move at high speeds (comparable to a swordfish) by folding its limbs against its body. It comes out of the water to hunt.

Kabutops is a predator, but its nature of feeding is vampiric; instead of killing its prey, it uses its razor sharp claws to open wounds in its prey, and then drink its blood. It attempts to avoid killing prey, so it may feed at a later date.

Although it was assumed extinct, the player-character in the Pokémon Red/Blue games had a hand in bringing it 'back to life', and later games referenced their failed reintroduction into the wild. In the animé, however, it and the other 'ancient-type' Pokémon (including Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Aerodactyl) were all erroneously assumed extinct because they had left the surface world for subterranean caverns for some years.

#142 Aerodactyl

Interesting Facts: It is listed as Pokémon #142 in the National Pokédex. Aerodactyl is a prehistoric Pokémon who is known for being a fast attacker, so it is used by many strategical players.
The name "Aerodactyl" is derived from the prefix "aero-", which means air (as in aeroplane), and pterodactyl, because of both Aerodactyl's similar appearance to the pterodactyl and prehistoric status.

Poke'dex Entry: Aerodactyl is an assumed diurnal carnivore, though in the episode "Putting the Air back in Aerodactyl" it is shown eating fruit.

Aerodactyl is an ancient Pokémon from the prehistoric age. It was first regenerated from genetic material extracted from amber. It is imagined to have been the king of the skies in ancient times. It captures its prey with its talons and brings it to its nest. However, if the prey resists, it may use its razor-sharp teeth to immobilize it. When attacking its enemies/opponents, it goes for the throat with its sawlike fangs. In as much as it was fossilized, its rough skin became rock-hard and its wing muscles grew stronger due to overweight. It uses its broad wings to glide through the skies.

#143 Snorlax User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: Snorlax is a portmanteau of Snore and lax. "Snor" comes from the English word "Snore." To snore is to breathe during sleep with harsh, snorting noises . "Lax" comes from another English word, "lax." Lax is defined as loose or relaxed and its synonyms are listed as careless, casual and easygoing.

Poke'dex Entry: Snorlax resemble a giant stuffed animal vaguely in the shape of a bear whose eyes always seem to be closed. All Snorlax will do all day is eat, and sleep. Snorlax will eat just about anything, even moldy and rotten food. The digestive juices in Snorlax's stomach can dissolve any kind of poison, thus giving it Immunity in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red and Leaf Green. It is such a docile Pokémon that children use its large, expansive belly to jump on like a trampoline. Snorlax did not have an evolutionary family until the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, released in 2006 in Japan. Its pre-evolution is Munchlax, which evolves after attaining sufficient happiness with its trainer.
Snorlax make their home in grassy forested areas. Also, according to Brock and the original Pokédex entry, Snorlax normally live in mountains. Snorlax is a cross between the giant ground sloth and a large bear, but has some characteristics of a cat.

#144 Articuno User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: Articuno is one of the three winged mirages along with Zapdos and Moltres. The name "Articuno" originates from the word "arctic", because it is an ice-type, and from the Spanish word "uno", meaning "one", because it is numerically the first of the three winged mirages. Its Japanese name is 'Freezer' spelled phonetically.

This Pokémon's appearance is based on the Arabic Anka myth, which is that of a giant arctic bird. The bird is similar to the phoenix as it is known to resurrect itself and appear to doomed people in the mountains.

Poke'dex Entry: Articuno is the avian embodiment of freezing cold. It appears to be a large, crested bird with blue plumage, white talons, a white-feathered chest, a three feathered crest adorning its head, and an elegant, sparkling long tail. The crest and tail are slightly darker in colour compared to its body and its beak and legs are almost lilac-blue. Its eyes are red.

Articuno can create and manipulate ice freely. Its translucent wings are imbued with the essence of frigidity, and the flapping of its wings chills the air, causing the conversion of water particles in the air into snow or ice. Therefore, it is believed that when this Pokémon flies overhead, snow will fall. To be able to freeze water with heat producing movement proves that Articuno is one of the coldest Pokémon in existence and appears to be able to control its body temperature as it does not freeze the air while idle. It is also believed that Articuno resides within the confines of icy mountains, because those who have seen it were often doomed explorers scaling such mountains, and therefore it is believed Articuno makes it a point to appear before them and save them, since it is not a malevolent creature.

Articuno may have been somewhat based on the real-life Resplendent Quetzal with a similar long tail and crest, and also the Anka, a mythical bird similar to the Phoenix that has powers associated with ice.

Articuno was a gentle legendary bird Pokémon, it saves people as well as other Pokémon from doomed places.

#145 Zapdos User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: "Zapdos" originates from the words "zap", because it is an electric-type, and "dos", Spanish for "two", because it is numerically the second winged mirage. Its Japanese name is 'Thunder' spelt phonetically, and its French name Electhor is from the words "Electricity" and "Thor", the Norse mythological god of Thunder. It appears as either a protagonist or an antagonist in games, animes or mangas.
Zapdos is based on the Native American Thunderbird.

Poke'dex Entry: Zapdos, one of a trio of magically powerful birds of which the other two are Articuno and Moltres, is the avian embodiment of spontaneous electricity. Zapdos, a creature that can freely manipulate electricity, is thought to live in thunderclouds, where it apparently only gains power when struck by lightning. It is seen emerging from clouds while dropping enormous lightning bolts, and even if it does not launch electricity its wings make peculiar crackling and snapping sounds as it flies.

Zapdos was found in the Power Plant only in pokémon Red and Blue, pokémon Yellow, pokémon FireRed and pokémon LeafGreen along with normal electric-type Pokémon such as Raichu, Electrode, Magneton and many more. Its anatomy seems fully capable of holding dangerously high amounts of voltage, which can be seen as reflected in its yellow, angular body and wings. Also behind its main yellow wings is a second pair of thinner, jet-black wings. Its beak is long and extremely sharp, and it allows it to use the devastating Flying- type attack Drill Peck. It is the only one of the winged mirages to learn this move.

#146 Moltres User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Fact: "Moltres" comes from the words "molten", because it is a fire-type, and "tres", Spanish for "three", denoting that Moltres is numerically the third (uno, dos, tres) of the winged mirages. It appears as a protagonist or antagonist in mangas, and animes/movies.
Moltres may be based on the Arabian phoenix.

Poke'dex Entry: Moltres is a large bird that is literally ablaze with fire. It has an orange body, a small pointed beak, and where its plumage should be are flames of a searing intensity. In its traits, it is based on the Arabian phoenix.

Moltres can be seen as the avian embodiment of an inferno (compare with Ho-Oh). It can freely create and manipulate fire, and it constantly looses flaming embers from its wings. Indeed, its wings are laden with enough fiery material that with every flap, a dazzling flare of flames is created to illuminate the night sky and overwhelm any person who might be in the area to see it.

Moltres is an elusive creature, seen about as rarely as the other two members of the winged mirage triad to which it belongs: Articuno and Zapdos. When Moltres thinks it is in the least bit possible danger (an unlikely scenario given Moltres’ power), it will summon a flash of fire and seemingly disappear, flying out of sight very fast.

Incredibly, Moltres’ body seems unharmed by contact with molten lava; in fact it actually restores Moltres' health. When its body is injured for any reason, it will head towards a volcano and dip its body in the molten magma to heal its wounds.Oddly enough, it doesn't have the flash fire ability

#147 Dratini User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Interesting Facts: The name Dratini is a combination of dragon, tiny and possibly mini, or teeny, which is an informal alteration of tiny, despite Dratini being born at over 6 feet in length. Even so, Dratini's Japanese name Miniryu contains the word mini meaning small, and ryū, Japanese for dragon. Its English name was originally going to be Dragoon.

Poke'dex Entry: Dratini is a mythical serpent Pokémon. It has two developing wings at the sides of its head, which grow to be enormous as it evolves. Dratini is possibly related to a snake and a giant baby dragon, as it lacks arms or legs and sheds its skin. Dratini are born large, as long as 5'11"; and as they shed their skin, they grow larger.

Dratini were thought to be purely mythical creatures, but they were discovered to be real by a fisherman, or so the story is told. Of course, a modest and powerful Dragon Master, Lance, was the one who discovered this prevolution of the grand and mighty Dragonite. Dratini's color suggests that it can camouflage itself in deep waters. They live in colonies in the ocean in limited numbers and fetch a high price as Pokémon to be used for battling.

Dratini have a massive amount of energy rapidly increasing inside of their bodies, hence, they have great strength which grows exponentially as they evolve.
