I have marched in so many bad conditions. Once we could literally see the lightning from a storm about a mile away. It was only raining a little where we were but we could literally watch the storm blow towards us. So there it is a thunderstorm and here we are holding our metal instruments. "Okay band we're going to do a full run through!" 10 minute show.......yea it pretty much sucked........He cut us off in the middle of the third movement. We like ran for the cars!

once it was like 12 degrees out side and it was practice so we didn't have our crapy ((but usually warm)) uniforms on. then it started to rain. we finaly started running the block back to the school when the trumpet's valves frose and their keys wouldn't come back up. my fingers were too numb to push the keys anymore ((I just had those thin band gloves))

we were at a football game, and it was pouring down rain. We had a show the next day so weren't in uniform, but were instead marching in regular shoes. The guard was slipping and sliding, from the mud puddles everywhere, the band itself was moving blobs in the rain, we couldn't hardly see anything, not fun . . . gonk

On the colder side... Cold, Cloudy, Rainy. Couldn't get into the building. Mud everywhere. Wearing a white shirt and shorts. x__X

The worst condition I've marched in was when it was raining really hard during a competition. During the warm-up, the rain soaked through my sleeve. We thought that they might cancel the marching part and have us just play because it was raining so hard. The field was slippery and muddy. A handful of people in my band slipped during the show. A few times we saw lightening. The next day I found out that there had been tornado watches that night.

when we went to no.cal. we marched in fog so thick the judges couldn't see us! it was reallly funny cause we had an extra day to prac. for prelims. but i live in so.cal. even though we are sposed to have perfect weather it can get really hot and really cold. we marched in 35 deg. at 9oclock at night. by the end of practice everyones fingers were so cold we couldn't move them! another day we had a comp. and it was 110! to make it worse our school colors are black and teal! so marching in all black sucks butt!

The worst for me is probably the 100+ degree weather. It gets pretty bad, especially when your fingers sweat, which makes you unable to hold your instrument.
It's sooo hot! You sweat so much and it is incredibly hard to stand still for long periods of time playing or working on drill.

For some reason I feel like I have posted here before... but I can't find it. Thanksgiving '06. Our director made a terrible mistake in making us play. It was SO COLD. I didn't eat breakfast (which was stupid) and I was nauseous. It was raining before so the air was humid. Humid & cold. We got gloves but they were so thin and they got wet and once they are wet, they are no help in keeping you warm. So I had to wear the wet gloves in the humid cold and my hands were numb. We didn't have to march- we just played in an arc. We almost had to march. So at the way end I felt like I was going to pass out. I almost had a hard time looking at Mr. Sexy Jack Skellington drum major. *les gasp!* I was almost crying. Luckily I was next to my friend who helped drag me off the field at the end. It wasn't only me though. It was another girl too (ironically this years drum major). Then we went to the press box to warm up... jsut the two of us and the guard director. There was so much food but the stupid cheer coach didn't offer us anything and we just had to stand there. Then the whole band left early. For the first time ever. The end.

during the first few weeks of school, our field was unbearably muddy. we literally had to take baths in the school sinks just to wash the mud off. and woodwinds always got the worse of it crying . that mud was made with sewer water and cow manure gonk

Brave_Sir_Robert I've hit both extremes. I've marched in 90 degree weather and it was humid. We also tried to march outside during the fall but it was so cold outisde my trombone slide froze shut and all the brass's valves were either frozen shut or stuck open...that sad thing was that we had only been out for 5-10 minutes. Though the thing I hate worst is wearing a cotton uniform and marching in the rain...those things get heavy quick we have wool uniforms.... talk about hott and heavy... hott durring the summerish games and heavy when it rains or snows... yeah it sucks
