TaeKyon Jaeger Chasse My biggest problem in sparring is that I always lean forward into some of my moves, many times leaving my head exposed. I generally do repeated round kicks and then go in for a hook punch to their head. Often times by then, I'll have set a precedent and can distract them simply by shifting my weight and feinting a kick, which opens up a lot of possibilities. I very rarely go for really high kicks; I see little point. Generally I do round kicks to the ribs, and for anyone advancing I use side kicks to the gut. I'm flexible and tall enough to kick most people in the head, but I don't find it practical. I honestly wish people would hit me in the head more so I remembered to keep my weight in the center, but generally I go unpunished. I think people are thinking about their gut most of the time. Get better competition. Any decent TKD fighter would take your exposed head as an invitation for a defensive front leg axe kick or a spin hook kick. Any boxer would tee off it with hooks and uppercuts and any kickboxer would see it as an easy window for a thai clinch with knees. There's plenty incentives for high kicks. High kicks can knock down opponents or even flash KO an opponent and end the fight. Rarely will a kick to the ribs do such a thing (though I've seen it happen). High kicks are harder to block and harder to catch as well. Even in most point sparring styles where KO's aren't common, head kicks are generally scored higher. In a TKD match, a head kick that knocks down can land you 3 points, which is more than enough to rally behind (along with the possibility of a KO victory if your opponent is unable to get up after the count) Granted, high kicks are harder to land but the point is that if you're capable of them, you should be looking for opportunities to land them. One should be more worried about their head if head contact is allowed. A blow to the head is far more damaging and dangerous than a blow the ribs or stomach. Strong core muscles can absorb the shock and impact of a blow to some extent, the brain however has no such luxury. Example: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BuCMdt_NUuE

The brain reacts to any trauma or shock by turning off any non vital systems. I.E. The whole thinking/conciousness thing

haha, for real! But seriously, you should keep him on the outside with YOUR kicks. When you fight, there should be MORE kicks than punches, straight up. You should be setting your punches up, with your kicks. When you come in without setting up them punches, he is taking free kicks off you. And his clinch game was HELLA weak. Seriously, with all that room, that kid shouldn't have even BEEN THROWING curve knees. You only throw those, when you're in the "smother" range, or in combination with something else. So that shows that kid didn't know how to clinch. But seriously, you were waaaay active, and thats good. IF you could just remember to end everything with a kick... whether it lands or not... and set up the punches with a kick, whether it lands or not, that wouldhave been a hella easy win for you. WOW, thats the competition for nationals?? Holy s**t.... where do I sign up? can ANYONE sign up?

His knees werent hard, but they were SOLID and he was very accurate with them. His only good kicks were those leg kicks and those body kicks in round 3. His teep was pretty lame because I was able to walk through it EASILY I'm gonna work on setting up my kicks more this time. My training partners tell me that my leg kicks are my most powerful weapon and I don't throw them enough, so I'll definitely keep at it.

I always liked the skip fake back fist and then kyah loud(To get attention) and kick him with a side kick works at least a point per person. and you get a nice shot in their ribs.

When i took karate and sparred alot i really enjoyed counter fighting. But everyone told me i was like a barracuda cause I would circle and circle till the opponent was off balance or in motion then i come in fast at angles to attack. I guess i did do that but only because i was waiting for the spot to close the distance and make a less counter able attack.
