Sabin smiled, watching her expression as she looked over the gift. "You are very welcome, Sayuri. I hope that it is a suitable replacement for the other one."
He slid the box towards her with a nod of his head.
"And I am glad that it was 'only a little pain.' I would be interested in seeing the tail at some point - from what I ... heard... it is quite colorful." He obstained from mentioning having seen it personally through the cameras. Besides, seeing the features or the changes through the cameras were nothing like seeing it in person.

She took the box gratefully, removing the hair ornament and sliding it into the up-do that Maryke had carefully done for her. 'It look okay?' she asked, looking upward, and then going a little cross-eyed. She couldnt leave to go see for herself in a mirror, that would be terrible rude. She looked at Sabin and giggled a little. She nodded at his comments in regards to her new appendage. 'It pretty,' she said, the appreciation obvious in her voice, the appreciation that what had been added to her body wasnt horrid to look at. 'Sabin want to see tail?' her fingers trembled a little at the thought of disrobing for him, but if he wanted to see the tail she could not refuse.

Sabin's eyes drifted to the strange lump in Sayuri's kimono, a spark of curiousity in them. "It would appease a certain.. curiousity I have." Sabin responded genially.
"I am glad that you find it pretty as well. I do not think that you need to hide it, however. There is almost no one on this island who would think ill of you for having it. Almost everyone else has gone through a change themselves, and even those that have not mostly know what is going on now."

Sayuri surprised herself by managing to reply to Sabin, even after he had confirmed that he did indeed want to see her tail. 'It is not hidden. I have only kimono. Kimono are beautiful clothes, did not want to cut them to let tail out.' she ran nervous hands over her lap, then let them rest on the cord securing her obi. 'I like tail, but I like my kimono as well. I like kimono that Sabin bring me most of all,' she said with a smile. 'I would not want to make..to damage it for tail.' The blood rose up to her face as she slowly undid her obi, standing and letting it fall. She turned away from Sabin as she slowly disrobed, ties undone and both outer and inner kimono soon followed the ornate belt onto the floor in a heap. She stood there, wearing only the thin slip around her hips that bunched up around her tail, her eyes looking at the floor, her hands clasped to her chest as she waited until Sabin had finished looking..if he touched her - she wasnt sure what she would do. She had a strong attraction to him...maybe he would hold her. The ornaments tinkled gently in her hair as she trembled a little.

Sabin was not exactly prepared for what followed. He opened his mouth to protest, but shut it quickly after, wondering if he really did want her to stop.
His response regarding potential damage to the kimonos was lost.
He rose to his feet as she disrobed, eyes drawn to the process, lingering in particular at the bulge near the back. As layers were pulled away, the tail finally was revealed - blue, black, yellow - quite colorful.
Sabin made an interested 'hrmm' noise as he noted that it grew in fully scaled. Probably a good thing and might mean for it being less sensitive or painful.
Indeed he did reach out an inquisitve hand, running it gently with the direction of the scales down the tail. It was smooth, and, as a gentle squeeze revealed, well formed and muscled.
Finally, he spoke, breaking the possibly unfomfortable silence. "Have you tried to swim yet?"

Sayuri's breath caught in her throat as he drew nearer. The sensation when his hand touched her tail and ran it down the length was indescribable, the tail gently moving under his touch. From far away she managed to find her voice - after all she had to answer him. 'I have not ever swam,' she replied. Dare she turn and face him? She had to see his face, it was rude to continue the conversation with her back to him. Her hands still covering her chest she turned slowly. The slip she was wearing was the only modesty she had, it covered the small v between her legs. 'Danna-san likes my tail?' she asked quietly, eyes flickering up to find his.

Sabin's eyes remained hard as he held his breath when Sayuri turned around. A small segment of his cheek was taken firmly between his teeth as a measure of restraint.
"I do like it very much. And I will be highly interested to see the progression from this point." Sabin took a step back, squeezing the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger.
"You... ought to try to swim sometime... even if it is only in the shallows of the lake."

Sayuri inclined her head, happy that Sabin was pleased with her tail. She knelt awkwardly, an arm across her front as she reclaimed her under-kimono robe and slid it on, aware that Sabin seemed a little uncomfortable with her being in the state of undress. She was uncomfortable herself, and had gotten a little chilly so it was probably a good thing. She was curious as to why she felt..disappointment? Yes, that was what it was at her Danna not moving to do anything when she was unclothed. She fastened the ties on her robe as she thought, then folded her outer kimono and obi neatly before standing in front of Sabin again, once more as reserved as she ever was. 'I would not know how to.' she said in regards to his suggestion on swimming. She neared him again, fingers reaching and laying on his arm, tugging gently on the cloth of his jacket. She liked expressing these small signs of affection, and was becoming ever more comfortable in his presence. 'Danna-san would a drink?' she asked.

"Well perhaps it might come naturally to you. If not now, then perhaps in the future after your changes have progressed a bit further."
His eyes remained on her as she slid the under kimono back on, watching her fingers retie the sash. He could feel a moment slipping by him, knew that he was passing an opportunity, and mentally he congradulated himself for having such restraint. He ... did not need it....
Or so he repeated to himself. Too many complications, and the looming shadow of guilt. This was not the right way, this was not the proper time. He did not wish to open that Pandora's box.
"Yes," Sabin breathed, letting a smile creep back to his features. "A drink would be excellent." He moved back to the low table, pulling a small piece of paper from his breast pocket.
"And... this is not a gift per se, but I might as well hand it to you personally. There is a ... sort of festival that will be happening within the month. And like everyone else, you are invited... although I doubt that I myself will attend." He handed her the invitation that he had posted to most of the other duplex doors already.

Sayuri refrained from commenting on his words regarding more changes. If she spoke about it, asked about what was going to happen to her he might think she was scared. Or weak. She simply nodded, leaving him for a moment to fetch the bottle of sake that she pre-warmed every day on the off chance that someone would stop by to be entertained. She returned, a small tray in her hands, two cups and bottle made of white pottery decorated in purple blossoms balanced on it. Kneeling carefully beside Sabin she poured him a measure, handing him the cup. That done she looked at the invitation that she had put down after he handed it to her. 'It is fun festival?' she asked, then little lines appeared as she wrinkled her face a little. 'Sabin-san will not be there? I would like to see Danna,' she said fervently.

Sabin accepted the cup graciously and brought it to his lips, savoring the warm alcohol for a moment before setting it back down.
"I think that it is great fun. It is, traditionally, a day that spirits - good and evil - manifest in the world at large. In order to protect themselves, people would adopt costumes in order to blend in with the spirits and not be harmed. Then, in that guise, they would have more freedoms of a sort - doing things that perhaps would not otherwise be socially acceptable. Now a days, however, it has turned into a festival of costumes and candy and frights. Children go door to door in costumes asking for candy, adults throw parties, or create 'haunted houses'. It is... I must say, my favorite holiday. Such imagination is encouraged, without the heavy trappings of Christianity like at Christmasstime." A warm smile found his face as he took another sip of the sake.
"I am not well liked among the islanders. I do not think that I would be welcome. Some might even take the opportunity to act against me. However, I see no reason you should not enjoy yourself, and I will likely be watching at the very least."
Sabin gestured to the note. "Can you read English?"

Sayuri listened whilst Sabin spoke, almost transfixed by the curve of his mouth as it shaped the words...she blushed at her thoughts and tried to return to the present in order that she could reply to him correctly. 'I can read most words, but sometimes find one that I have not seen so do not know it,' she pointed to the word 'Hallowe'en'. 'This I not seen before.' she said. 'Sayuri likes Sabin-san much.' she admitted, blushing even deeper as she spoke.

"That is 'Halloween'. The name of the festival." Sabin explained.
"And... I am glad that you like me. It... feels nice to not be hated by some, even if a small minority." This was not the first time Sayuri had mentioned her fondness for him. But at least in this situation, Sabin made a conscious decision to respond as a continuation of the context as opposed to delving into the depths of what the girl might feel for him.

'Hallo-een,' she sounded the word out. 'What costume would be good for Sayuri?' she mused out loud. She giggled a little. 'I do not know what dress-up would be good. Danna-san is clever,' she flattered coyly. 'What Sabin think make Sayuri look good for festival?' When she spoke now she tended to look more at him, then to the floor. When he was here she wanted to imprint his features in her mind, and she did not feel half so shy around him as when they had first met.

Sabin leaned back, lacing his fingers, and savored the opportunity.
Pick someone else's Halloween costume? How delightful!
"Well" Sabin began. "Halloween now a days is a festival of inversion. Like Carnivale or Mardi Gras. It is a time where you can be someone completely different. Men will dress as women, you can break taboos, the fool can be king. People will either generally go with that theme, or the opposite - an excuse to dress to your affectations or take advantage of interests or natural inclinations."
Sabin gestured. "For example... if you went with the second type, you could "be" a geisha - which would be boring, but mildly amusing. Or a mermaid. Which is also an easy one. Oooorrrr" He held up a finger with a sly grin and a mischivious sparkle in his blue-grey eyes.
"You go for the opposite. You are a modest, Japanese woman. So something the opposite might be an American icon... something daring ....." He clasped his hands. "I have an excellent idea. I will make sure that the costume is delivered to you before the festival. But... in the meantime, if you want to know your part, I reccomend watching... Star Wars. It is in the entertainment room."
