Nereida rowed back to the shallows between the sand dunes in silence, nearly grunting from how hard it was to move the paddle with all three fae and the monster aboard the raft.

After what seemed like forever, they ran ashore.

"What should we do with it now?" she asked.

Kayce, silently lost in her thoughts, was oblivious to Dierdre and Nereida for most of the ride back to shore. She only came back to useful consciousness when the raft ran ashore. Easily stretching out her arms, she shifted carefully toward the edge of the raft, moving to hop onto the beach.

"Show our parents and then give it a proper burial?" the dark-haired fae suggested. It was a dead thing, and, therefore, it did need to be buried, at least by her train of logic.

Dierdre hopped off the boat and onto shore. She'd leave it to the other fae to carry the "trophy". Honestly, she didn't want to be associated with it at all.

A burial? Honestly, it came from the sea and to the sea it should go back. Less of a mess, and there wouldn't be the matter of digging a hole.

"I say, we should send it back into the sea. That's where it came from and that's where it should lie dead."

Nereida nodded at hearing Dierdre's idea. "I think that's what we should do."

She hopped off the raft into the water between the dunes - it was now about knee deep. "If we leave it here, it'll go out with the tide in a few hours. And... If we tell the adults about any of this, we'll probably get in trouble. Let's keep it our own secret. Just something for us to know and remember, okay?"

Well, that was the best idea Dierdre had heard all day. If they kept it a secret than less people would know she'd ever had to touch the icky thing.

Nodding in approval, she replied, "Aye, I've a mind to think that Ronnie wouldn't be to thrilled with such a story. So, let's just let it lie in our hearts." Where it can be quickly ignored.

Kayce considered that for a moment. It was a sea creature; its spirit would be happier back in the sea than buried in the sands. "Yes, I think it would like that better," she agreed.

The other fae did have a point, and she took a moment to consider. On the one hand, she was sure that on some level, Amyla would be very proud of them. Battling a sea monster and winning, that was a most impressive feat. On the other hand, Amyla would probably have a cow if she had found out that the three fae had put themselves into such a dangerous situation. Not to mention the reactions of the other parents. Yes, perhaps it would be best to keep it a secret. "Mum would not be very happy if she found out. We should keep it a secret," she said with a solemn nod.

Nereida nodded in approval and rowed the little raft up to the mouth of the inlet. She bent down and pushed the sea monster into the water and rowed back. "The sea will take it when the tide goes out," she said, stepping off the raft and pushing it onto the dune. "We're all gonna be good fighters. We set the sea monster's spirit free, so it'll protect us."

Utter bull, but somewhere deep down Nereida believed it.

Dierdre fought the urge reply so strongly it hurt. What was this nonsense? Freeing its spirit? They didn't free anything, they killed it. Why didn't they understand that its spirit went with it. And if it were still alive it would probably come back to haunt them. Did they think it wanted to die?

Avoiding replying to Nereida's comment, Dierdre looked up the sand dune. "Well, should we be getting back to our guardians then?"

Kayce wordlessly helped Nereida push the raft up onto the dunes. She doubted that the sea monster's spirit would be protecting them. She was more of the opinion that its soul had travelled onto a better world, perhaps an ocean eternally free of strange two-legged predators. She did not, however, have any doubts that they could become strong fighters. She was already on her way, having had swordfighting lessons for quite some time now. Nereida could be an underwater fighter quite easily, but as for Dierdre....

The dark fae blinked. Better she didn't comment on any of that.

"I think our guardians are probably wondering where we are," Kayce agreed. "We don't want them to have to come look for us. That usually results in yelling and possibly being grounded from something."

"Well, I only said it because thats what they always say at the end of those adventure movies I've seen," Nereida said with a shrug. "And yeah. We should head back."

She started up the sand dune, leaving wet footprints as she climbed.

Dierdre headed back up the sand dune with the other girls. Thankfully the day could be over now. After the tangle with the sea monster and being stuck on a raft with a girl who was a trifle slow in the head, she couldn't wait to get home. Even if it was to Ronnie's ugly apartment.

The guardians were still as they'd left them. Sitting around and talking on towels. Dierdre wondered if she might have had more fun with them then getting attacked by ugly things.

Kayce simply elected not to make another comment and walked calmly after the other two fae. She was in no hurry to return to the guardians, after all. What would they do then? Go swimming? Build a sand castle? Throw sandballs?

Something told her, though, that Amyla would be a bit worried by their lengthy absence. Perhaps it was best if they didn't make any detours. As she got to the top of the dune, she spied their guardians in the distance. Without waiting for the other two, she continued down the opposite side of the dune at the same pace at which she had ascended it, calmly and carefully making her way back.

Amyla spied a silhouette or two (she couldn't distinguish the number) at the top of the dune and squinted in that direction, raising a hand to shield her eyes from the sun. Was that the fae returning from their 'grand adventure?' She had to wonder what they had been up to, but perhaps it was better to not ask.

Silverah also noticed the figures at the top of the dune and watched as they approached. "That'd be the girls," she stated. "I wonder what they've been up to?"

Nereida hurried across the hot sand, hopping a little as it stung her feet, and hurried towards the guardians. After a great adventure, a popsicle or some fruit would be great.

Ronnie shaded her eyes and squinted up toward the dune. Yes, that was them. It shouldn't have surprised her that she felt a twinge of relief flow through her, but it did. Forgetting that Dierdre hated to be seen with her, she quickly raised her hand in hail and waved.

Ugh, what's that stupid woman doing? Dierdre sniffed once in disdain and continued toward the women ignoring Ronnie until they got close enough to speak. "Put your hand down woman, I'm here aren't I?"

Despite knowing Dierdre's dislike of contact, Ronnie dragged the fae into a hug. "Ah, I missed you D."

"I'm curious too. But I also think I don't want to know," Amyla said glumly in reply to Silverah, watching the fae come closer. She had to hide a smile at Dierdre's reaction to Ronnie. What an interesting fae...

Kayce moved across the sand at an easy lope, slowing down a few paces away so as not to shower the guardians with lots of sand. Digging out her towel she promptly spread it on the sand and then sat on it.

"Did you have fun?" Amyla asked, hoping to get some sort of information out of this. She gestured at the coolers she had brought. "Any of you hungry?"

Kayce was. She walked on her knees to the nearer of the two coolers and opened it up, unsure which of the many fruits to take out. Apple... orange... ooh, grapes! Those looked tasty. She glanced at Nereida and Dierdre to see if either of them wanted fruit either.
