Every thing I can find say that San Soo and San Shou are the same art.
http://www.worldblackbelt.com/Martial_Arts_Styles/San_Soo.asp

San Shou is more of a full contact sport from what I understand but they are more or less the same thing.

It's all Chinese Kung Fu striped of fancy bull thats not needed for real combat.

I have recently been talking to some people about dirty fighting. I have always believed that there is no such thing in a real fight where your life is on the line there are no limits on what you could do to some one as long as you are alive in the end. I was told that
Quote:
Training dirty fighting is dumb because it's unnecessary. You don't need to train something that takes no skill. Why else do you think they're illegal in sports?

I know how much skill it takes because I was traind to use techniques that will keep me alive.

How many people realy feel these things are not needed in martial arts every style I know of teaches strikes to the groin, throat and eyes. I once had a talk with a friend about fighting and we started fooling around when he came at me I kicked at his legs I knew he wasent waching his legs because he uses boxing techniques. He told me that I fought dirty I do not understand the idea of there being limits in a fight if I feel threatened I will use what ever it takes to stay alive.
Quote:
as I said, people who rely solely on dirty tactics can't survive without them because they're not skilled enough.

I can't say that I have ever seen a style that only goes for groin shots. Striking weak areas of the body is just one part of martial arts that is a part of the style not the whole thing.

I want to here from others about fighting dirty do you think that it is something that is useless do you feel there is such a thing as dirty fighting in a real fight?

I have a high art, I hurt with cruelty those who would damage me. - Archilocus, 650 B.C.
in a fight the whole ideal is to cripple the other guy and fighting dirty is a perfect means to get their if you want to fight me you have to accept the fact that im a ninja! biggrin

To me you fight or you don't fighting to me means hurting some one by any means necessary. If your open I will kick you in the nuts if I feel it's necessary I will strike you in the eye's I am fairly good at useing the Crane Beak against the eye's. These things are major targets in real martial arts not many can take a strong hit in the groin and I realy dout any one will keep coming after you poke out an eye. One of the big part of trainng in a martial art is learning the weak areas of the human body. You start with easy things like the eye's, throat and groin then move on to other things like pressure points that are not as obvious. Every martial art I can think of teaches techniques that can be used for striking these areas or are made specificially for that target. Crane style uses the beak against the eye's and a few other soft targets Tiger Claw rips at the throat and groin and often rakes down over the eyes to blind you.

There is no such thing as dirty fighting in a real fight thinking this way will only make you neglect a good target when it could end a life threatening confrontation.

yah, I guess when you're in a fight w/ ur life on the line, or your safety, I'd be totally okay with kicking a guy in the groin. I mean, if you were being mugged, you're not gonna treat it as an olympic style tournament, are you now? If I'm in serious danger, screw a hook kick, I'll just chop 'em in the throat, and whoosh! I be outta there.

If I'm being mugged I still won't attack the groin. Now, punching them dead in the collar bone at a downward angle I will do. Usually puts most people off trying to mug you since they're more worried about whether or not they're collar bone is broken. After that I go for the rear-naked choke combined with a step-back hip toss. It's brutal on concrete, but I'm putting them down to save my own life. It's necessary.... Yes... Necessary.

I'll do anything. I got in a fight once and threw wood chips in somebody's face.

What did you do?

This was years ago and I never had that happen I got into a lot of fights as a kid but this dude tried to reach for my junk I head butted him in the face I had a hold of him and my other hand was holding his other arm So I nailed him in the facs with my head than I just sholder rammed him. After that it was over from what I heard after that I am not the only one he has tried to do that to he had a habit of doing that in fights I felt it was uncalled for but a fights a fight.

I agree. When it's your life on the line, anything goes to protect yourself.

I prefer kicks to the chest that happen to place the groin in the way.
