somebody probably answered aggeesss ago but i want gold so im gonna be a gangster (h) its zacks sword, cloud picked it up after zach got killed.

In the game Cloud took the buster sword that belonged to zack after he died because Cloud thought that he was Zack but Tifa helped him piece his memories back together in the lifestream so that he would realize that he was not Zack. In AC he gets his own sword that is much like the buster sword but not the same thing and used Zack's buster sword as a grave marker of where he died.

Well, we've clearly established that the FFVII sword was originally Zack's. His AC sword he probably either bought or made in the years between the game and the movie.

Ayeina Yep! You're right DrakeWurrum, Cloud got the buster sword from Zack, but now that Zack is dead and the buster sword is kinda... well... busted up... he uses it as a marker for where Zack died. The AC design is a completely new design. Its never been used before and as they made the movie they just thought it went well with what happens and it looks cool during the last battle. Spoiler (for those who haven't seen the movie yet)Especially when he uses it against Sephiroth in the final battle with the new Omnislash and all. And when he's on the wall and pops that one out of the sword just by stepping it. GAWD!! THAT'S SO FREAKING AWSOME!! xd ^_^ Exactly right! Everyone knows the Buster Sword was Zack's. Cloud actually was just borrowing it, in my opinion. XD AND YOUR DAMN RIGHT ABOUT THE PART WHEN HE'S ON THE WALL AND ALL THAT WRECKAGE IS FALLING DOWN AT HIM!!! That's my favorite part of the movie.

Cloud got it from zack who was given it by sephiroth after using it to kill a minotaur for the masamune as a prize at the golden saceur. I read this on wikipedia

in AC he got it from zack cause at the end remember they showed aerith and zack as ghosts leaving

actually the buster sword origonally belonged to Angeal the man who trained Zack. im not sure how zack acquired the buster word from his mentor but apparently he never saw Angeal use it. Cloud was with Zck when he was being taught how to fight that is why Zack and Clouds moves are similiar in many ways. Cloud way of fighting is ultimately better because he kinda always had the potential to be a soldier and a damn good one but mako and cloud are not a good combination. During the time that Zack was being taught and cloud was tagging along. apparently Genesis (the guy you see in the extra ending movie on dirge of cerberus) was around what he did i dont know, ill have to look it up or play the game. but for those of who dont know genesis was basically the prototype for Sephiroth was gonna be, and he is just as powerful if not slightly more. we always called sephiroth the one winged angel kinda made you wonder who got the other wing. smile

DAMN. lol yea That thing has got to be made of aluminum. HAVE YOU SEEN CLOUDS ARMS???!!!!! It's not like he can just lift it with his awesome. I think cloud is pumpin' something. Made him act wierd. And that is why Aeris left him for Zack at the end.(even though she was with im before..... burning_eyes )

although the sword is huge the sword stands for many things and is used to battle evil and conquer it.

The buster sword was borrowed from Zack after getting swiss-cheesed in the game. The sword in AC is called 'First Tsurugi', I think. You can go on wikipedia and type in First Tsurugi, but it holds no info on how Cloud obtained it.
Might as well go talk to Tetsuya Nomura is you want answers... stare
