I look up, a little miffed, but still mostly cheerful. "You all misunderstand my meaning. I was not requiring money for this, merely inquiring if it would be provided. I've agreed regardless, but I believe we all would be able to accomplish this mission easier if we were given something to use to keep our weapons sharp, our munitions stocked, and our stomachs from being empty. And of course, there are some who are more motivated by money then the need of others." I smile again, and wait for the others to say whether they will be joining or not.

"It is good to hear we share the same mindset." Navon said with a smile "For me, helping out and... perhaps... getting the chance to exchange magical formula with my fellow mages afterwards would be more than enough. But the more prepared we are, and the better our information, the sooner we shall bring these criminals to justice."

Dorak snorts as he listens to this fellow caster buisness and no need to be paid. As he stands there he takes out a block of wood from his backpack and his carving knife and starts carving it. He blinks when the wizard bows to him and everyone else. Then he steps forward. Im Dorak, I will help you recover this book for honor and gold. Besides probably find some good wood out in those woods. He says the last with a grin.

"Greetings Dorak, even though some may disagree with me saying so, but thank you." Smiling gently with his eye (rest of face is covered with the cowl xp ninja ). "If it were not for you or the forces, whose timely arrival shifted the tides of battle, this village would have perished. Once again thank you." Becoming serious and facing the mayor once again, "Sir, would you know at the moment whether the goblins that were left unconscious on the battle field has been secured? And what is to happen to the body of the fallen knight, I believe his name was Alex?"
Amazing!! I can't believe my luck! My first day out of the temple and I have already met races outside of our own and an even more curious one within the race of man! twisted So? twisted Ancient races should have bountiful information to share, the elves, dwarves, gnomes, I even sense the strange grey-skinned wizard may have the most to contribute! Even the red-haired human, there is something special about him, I can feel it! twisted Can't say that I've quenched the blood-lust tonight, but I guess I can endure your soon-to-be ramblings about the information you got. Just don't you forget about the promise with the goblins I knocked out. twisted

For a long moment, Ahirman simply paused to scrutinize the man with his features hidden beneath the cowl. There was something odd about him, he was sure of it. Maybe it was just that he'd grown used to people that were reluctant to be so...jovial. For now, he just shrugged it off and spoke. "My name's Ahriman, and I hope that I can be of help to everyone in any way I can during this endeavor." Well, with that out of the way, The bald hermet looked down and spoke. "Having said that, I must say that neither gold nor altruism that motivates me to help in this, but reasons of my own." Mainly to see the man responsible for what happened here tonight, and who would do even worse very, very dead.

Navon nodded at the others words, paying careful attention to all that these surface dwellers said. It might prove important to his mission later on, after all.
"My own name is Navon." he says, pulling back his own hood to fully reveal features that so gray that he looks like a man of living stone "I am a student of magic, a humble mage on a personal quest to better his knowlege who hopes to one day uncover some of the magical lore of days past... I come from a land across the sea, and I hope to one day return there with many new spells from this strange place."
The last part of that was a lie, of course - Navon would sooner die than betray the secrets of his people... That was the fist law of venturing in this strange surface land - But the rest was true enough.

I turn to face everyone, listening to their introductions before giving mine "The name is Nizam. I am a Gnome of the woods. I have no long term quest as most of the rest of you do, save to study and learn better to fight giants."

Talibah frowns for a moment, "Whatever this book may be it sounds important, I'll happily help retrieve it."
She then turns to her fellow adventurers, "My name is Talibah, it seems like we're going to make a formidable team!"

The Mayor and Guard Captain seem relieved at your willingness to help. Moonwind, though her face does not show it, greets you all warmly. "I am Moonwind, the high-priestess of Mielikki in this town. We would be very happy to have the assisstance of such heroes in this situation." She approaches you and you realize that she must be at least seven feet tall, long and lean of build, obviously a powerful woman in both position and physique. "I can offer you each 500 gold to return The Book, unused, to the temple. I can give you 200 gold a peice now, for provisions, and the rest when you return. You can also keep any other treasure you may find along the way, though donations are appreciated."
She looks you all over for a moment. "Such a diverse group. Remember to rely on each other when a situation turns bad. Each of your abilities should prove very useful to the group, as long you have the wisdom to clearly see the path."
The Guard Captain then speaks up. "I will see what I can discover about this Hadonis. You should take care of what preparations you need, then meet me at the east gate." He leaves the room in a hurry.

I walk up to the high priestess, and give a low bow "My good lady, as a gnome of the woods, I need not alot of wealth. I pledge a third of my treasure to your temple, and another third to the rebuilding of the town, provided you can promise me that trees will only be cut from the forest for necessary lumber, and no waste will come of it, and that the creatures of the forests will be hunted for food, and not for sport. I know some druids who would be very unhappy should either of those be broken." I turn towards the group "Well, as we will be traveling together, I must ask you to respect nature, and the forest. So long as you do, I shall help guide you through it, so that we may make it to this cleric as quickly as possible."

Moonwind smiles brightly at Nizam. "I see we share like beliefs. Though I am no druid, I am a preistess of Mielikki, goddess of the Autumn Wood. You will see that your wishes are carried out to the letter, as I will be taking charge of the rebuilding efforts."

Ahirman stood silent as he took in the situation. unsure of exactly how he should respond. He glanced down to the gnome as he answer the tall woman. He was quiteverbose, but his requests didn't seem too unreasonable, all things considered. He also agreed, they were a motley crew, but he saw no reason not to think it would be possble for them to work as a coherietn group.
"Of course, I will respect your wishes, Nizam." Said with a nod, though it didn't truely need to be. Nature had a way of demanding respect, and the sooner one learns, the better.

eek "Err... of course!! sweatdrop Nature must always be repected!!! sweatdrop *nervous laughter* None of us, especially us mages, have ever tampered the fundemental natural order when bored *more nervous laughter sweatdrop *. That would be wrong." Must change subjects quickly. *cough* "Mister Mayor, Lady Moonwind, a word. Please. A friend of mine is currently outside watching a couple of unconscious goblins and maybe a human raider or two. Would you happen to know whether they have been secured and readied for questioning at the moment?"
