“I will acknowledge that you are strong. Because… you are someone that knows the same pain of loneliness that I do. And… that pain makes a person stronger.”

Location: Judith Hall -> Popup Care Station ➤Company: Izzy ➤Mood/Thoughts: Her hands...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luna pouted at the thought. “Well that’s unfortunate. It would have been better if we could just… you know… ferment like a pickle while essentially hibernating; and then wake up knowing just about everything. Would make living so much easier.” She sighed, with no real heart to it. She wasn’t really disappointed, not in any serious sense. “But you’re probably right. That just means I need to wait at least until I’m in the mid triple-digits before closing that lid”
Luna’s eyes drifted up, trying to match that description with anyone that she’s seen. It could have been anyone really, tall brown haired vampires were surely a hot commodity. Though no guy had tried to hit on her. There were in fact no bells ringing. She shifted her eyes back to Izzy and tilted her head slightly, confusion clearly evident. Unfortunately not having clued in on the satirical nature of the description. Luna slowly shook her head, “no, I don’t think so. I transferred to Rathmore only a week ago so I guess it makes sense that I haven’t seen him.” That and she spent more time slinking through the shadows than truely paying attention to her dorm-mates. “I’ll be on the lookout for him,” she grinned.
Izzy had just finished packing up before beginning lessons 1 and 2 of Jackassery. Both made sense in their own right. Go your own pace and lean on others. Luna nodded along. Easy enough right? No at all. Maybe for those that weren’t socially stunted, but Luna was not one of those people. It had brought about a whole host of other questions: What if going at your own pace affects others? What if the other person is telling you something for your own good, but you went at your own pace and now there’s adverse consequences? How could she determine who to lean on and who to not? What qualified someone as leanable? What if someone she miscategorized as leanable and they turned out to be… well not? A blurred blob shifted into Luna’s view that brought her out of her musings.
Luna could only stare at Izzy’s outstretched hand with wide eyes and a look that could only be described as an amalgamation of shock, confusion, hesitation, and fear. Her mouth dropped open a moment later, ready to quickly turn down the offer, not wanting to burden the girl. This was her problem, her fault. She had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was Izzy’s words that fluttered through her mind over and over. Bouncing against her skull trying to make itself known. ‘... you can just lean on someone else’. Luna slowly lifted her hand, hesitating to make any rushed movements. Her fingertips trembled as they reached out for Izzy’s, and when their tips brushed, she froze. Her eyes never strayed from where they touched. It took a steadying breath before Luna’s confidence rose. Then in one swift moment Luna grasped Izzy’s hand. It was only barely bigger than her’s, cold, but… comforting… new.
Luna’s eyes shot up to Izzy’s, she smiled unsure but true. She rose up off the couch using their linked hands to help her up. Though the smile remained, it was when they were level that the unsureness dissipated into another indiscernible emotion. “Let’s go eat.” She moved tugging Izzy along.
The short walk over to Izzy’s room had been silent. Luna did not feel the awkward tension in her shoulders from earlier. With her hand in Izzy’s it was another kind of awkwardness that kept her mouth sealed shut. She wanted to say something to fill up the silence, but words evaded her floating away before she had the opportunity to catch them. When they reached Izzy’s room, Luna waited just beyond the threshold in the hall for the vampire. And when they exited the building they were met with cool air and warm sunlight. Students milled about, there were far more than when she had gone to the popup care station earlier.
Luna lightly squeezed Izzy’s hand before speaking, “would you mind if we went to the popup care station? I went earlier, but I don’t know how they unravelled already.” She looked down at her leg to see the wrap hanging on her dear life. It was only by sheer luck that they were still there. “It won't take long, I think. I just don’t want to get blood anywhere.” The stitches had broken and the wrap in question was slowly staining red.
At the station, low risk injured students populated the small tent leaving the higher risk to the infirmary. Some were standing, others sat in beds and even more took to the ground. “This… may take a little longer than anticipated. Are you hungry? I can always come back later when there’s less people in here.” She turned to the girl beside her.
If only you could see me yesterday𓇼Who I used to be before the change𓇼You'd see a broken heart𓇼You'd see the battle scars...
...It's funny how words can't explain𓇼How good it feels to finally break the chains𓇼I'm not what I have done𓇼I'm what I've overcome
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Lexi's awkward rambling was once more cut off by Callie's kind-hearted logic, as the woman settled herself on the bed beside her. Granted, she wasn't wrong. The dance had been a blood bath, and she had got hurt, real bad, and the wound clearly wasn't healing as fast as it should be. But if she had just listened to the Alpha and ran away, instead of throwing herself in the creature's path, then she wouldn't need anyone to take care of her. “Yeah, but I messed up, I should have listened to you.” Honestly though, Lexi knew she was in way over her head, even before those things had shown up to ruin the evening. Escorting the breathtakingly beautiful Callie to some big fancy witch party turned out to be kind of overwhelming. It only served as a reminder of where she came from and had thoroughly eaten away at her confidence as the evening wore on. After all, a scruffy street kid like her didn't really belong in a high-class place like this, Frank just happened to pull some strings.
Though, despite how unworthy she may have felt, Callie was still here. Even from the start Lexi knew the alpha could, and would have up and left at any time if she really wanted. But hearing the woman saying in her own words, that she wanted to stay and that she cared, only made it harder for her to argue in favour of her guilty conscience. Especially when the sensation of warm fingers suddenly linking into her own sent a satisfying tingle up her arm and through the rest of her body. She could already feel the flush rising in her cheeks again as she ran a thumb over the soft perfect skin. Somehow Callie managed to make her feel like it was okay to want more than she deserved, like she could strive for something greater than herself. And who knows, maybe she if could stop fighting her feelings and second-guessing herself for just a moment, something as simple as holding hands with the person she cared about could become a normal thing for her.
First things first though, Lexi needed to pull herself together. At least it seemed they were now both on the same page when it came to their feelings, which made pushing down any lingering doubts that much easier. Though the last thing she had expected was for Callie to help seal them away with a sweet kiss. But that was exactly what happened. The gentle hand that reached for Lexi's cheek had done its job of drawing her attention back to the woman beside her. When soft lips brushed against her own, she could feel her face turning a bright shade of red, and her heart flutter, as she leaned into the lip lock. Even as Callie pulled back Lexi inched forward little by little, only stopping herself when the movement sent another wave of pain shooting down her arm, though it meant that the request to take it easy hadn't been completely lost on her. “Sure, I can do that. Honestly, a little R&R sounds real good right now.” She agreed with a soft chuckle as a half wince, and half crooked grin pulled at the corner of her mouth. Though she did hope this whole relaxing thing didn't mean another few days just shut away in her dorm.
“But... I care about you too, and I don't want you getting all stressed out because of me. Just try not to push yourself okay? If I'm being a pain in the a** just tell me.” She knew it was a long shot, Callie was the alpha, and in the end she would do whatever the hell she wanted, but with the whole sharing feelings thing they had been doing she at least hoped the woman would consider the request. After all, it wouldn't have been the first time she had watched a good person try to help those around her, only to crumble under the weight of everybody else's problems. For the five years she had known her, Vi had been like a loving mother to Lexi and the rest of the Lillies, but in the end she had paid the ultimate price. The last thing she wanted was to see the same thing happen to Callie or any of her new friends for that matter.
Harley felt very content as they were, nuzzling against one another and leaving little nibbles and kisses. The little vampire sighed happily, his eyes half lidded as he tried to ignore the stiff and insistent ‘trouble’ he had brewing down below. How embarrassing… He could not seem to at all calm himself despite Sebastian having slowed things down. Even this sweet, playful attention was enough to keep the fire stoked now that it had been kindled. Well, at least they were hidden away in their dorm where no one would chance upon them before he could compose himself. And he was in no real hurry to do so.
Truly Sebastian said the sweetest things to him and Harley could not help but to be a little flustered. It was still painted on his face as clear as day when Sebastian straightened and took his chin in one hand. Ah, but he should have expected the sweet words to continue; Sebastian’s tongue was assuredly coated in silver. And lurking just beneath saccharine waters was the hungry predator he had only allowed Harley the barest glimpse of. The snowy vampire gasped softly as a fang caught his lip and he leaned in instinctively, wanting to kiss Sebastian again.
There it was again, just a glimpse of the hunger held at bay. Harley could see it in those crimson eyes and hear it in the husky voice. It thrilled him, he had to admit. He had all but drowned in just moments of that attention, but for all that he was overwhelmed he had not wanted it to stop. But even so, he was actually very happy with Sebastian’s answer. He gave into the urge to steal one more kiss from his roommate before looking into his eyes with a bright smile. ”I am glad. I was afraid you were holding back because of something I had done. I am happy to take things slowly as long as it does not turn you away from me.” Surely in time he would not be so timid. Someday he would actually be ready. And then he could ride that wave of passion rather than just let it pull him under.
Harley smiled sheepishly but refused to look away. He wanted Sebastian to know he meant every word. That and he did so love to just look at this man. How could he not? Especially now when Sebastian was looking at him like he was the only other person in the entire world. But of course he was not, as the ringing phone attested to. Harley ignored the sound for a moment; he wanted to touch and enjoy for just a moment longer, much as Sebastian was still touching him. Harley reached out both hands, hesitating for only a moment before laying them against Sebastian’s chest and running them down his torso.
”I suppose I should let you answer that.” he admitted softly as his fingertips traced over Sebastian’s abdomen and over his hips before falling to rest there. ”It is not like me to be so selfish. Wanting to keep you to myself. It could be important, after all.”
        Rowan was very glad that Michelet was there with him, though Michelet actually offering Kurt a hug as well did come as a surprise to him. Kurt needed it, though. Anyone who'd seen the state that he'd been in, and was still in, could see he needed support. Most of all, though, he needed to be able to see that he could move forward just as well without Trinity as with her.
        Despite the weight of the moment, Rowan smiled a little as he listened to Michelet speak, helping to drive home the point that Kurt wasn't alone just because Trinity was now out of the picture. To his relief, Kurt let the hollow facade drop, and let himself cry it out for a few moments. Sure, he'd been crying earlier, but that had been for breaking off their engagement. Or, Rowan assumed. After the verbal thrashing from Trinity, he could only imagine what sort of painful, negative emotions were welling up in Kurt. Crying them out would be far better than letting them eat at him.
        "It's alright." he replied, reassuringly, to Kurt's apology, and his thanks. "Michelet said it. You've got us, and Penny too. Oh, and Buttons!" They couldn't leave Buttons out, after all. Once the three of them were no longer in a group hug, Rowan stood back just a bit, rolling on and off the balls of his feet a little, as he crossed his hands together in front of him, watching both Kurt and Michelet with a seemingly content expression. He was still a little worried, but... so long as Kurt seemed to be feeling at least a little better, he was more comfortable with letting himself relax some.
        When it was brought up again, he gave a glance to his arm, his sleeve concealing all of the inky markings that signified he had a curse on him at all. While he hadn't forgotten about it, it was easy to put it to the back of his mind when something else was going on that he felt was much more pressing. As far as he was aware, he wasn't in any immediate danger. He smiled musingly as he lifted the hand up and wiggled the visible tips of his fingers from in his sleeve. "No worries. I don't think it's too bad. At least it doesn't feel too bad." He didn't actually know the type or nature of the curse, so he didn't know for certain whether it was really bad or not, but he felt fine for the moment.
        He glanced back to the door of the cafeteria, then to the two of them, a pondering look on his face. "I suppose I could go see professor Houlihan now. She's a great witch, so I don't imagine it would take too long." Though he didn't know all of the exact details, Michelet's curse seemed to have been removed easily enough. If his own was put on him by the same person, at the same time, then it couldn't have been any worse than the one that Michelet had placed on him. From the sound of it, Michelet's seemed worse, and it was still a bit hard for Rowan to fully process that Michelet had actually gone blind through a significant part of their ordeal during the formal. In hindsight, he was sort of glad that he didn't know at the time. He was sure he would have panicked and possibly made things more difficult on all of them. It was easier to appreciate now, after the fact, that they'd all made it out okay, and that Michelet had his eyesight intact and was no longer cursed at all.
        "You're both welcome to come with me if you want to! It's alright if you don't though. I don't think it'll be anything too entertaining." he gave a little laugh, his hand now dropped back to his side, still hidden in his long sleeve. "Otherwise, I can go see the professor now, and once I'm curse-free, come back and find you both again." He didn't really mind either way. So long as they would both be alright if he did go off without them.
Michelet could actually see the moment that their words broke through in the form of silent tears rolling down the duke’s cheeks. Good, this was good. Better by far than watching the blond tamp down his emotions until his eyes seemed dull like he was already dead. Michelet had no doubt that he was still in pain, but pain was a reminder that he was still alive. And as long as he was alive, he could push past that pain toward a better tomorrow. Kurt may not want that for himself yet, but Michelet strongly believed that it was enough for now for the duke to know that his friends wanted that for him.
Michelet waited patiently while the duke let it out, draining enough of the poison from his heart to keep moving forward at least for now. Then he turned to hug them both, thanking his newfound friends. Michelet smiled at that. Truth be told, before that very morning he couldn’t have imagined a far off day when he would have let Duke Kurtis Rathmore call him friend without laughing in his face. But now the word fit naturally. He couldn’t understand such a drastic flip around, but then… the Kurt he spoke to today just was not the same person he had come into conflict with before. Maybe he did not need to understand more than that.
Rowan reiterated that Kurt had the two of them, and Penny and Buttons too. Michelet nodded his agreement with a small, lingering smile. ”You lean on us much as you need. You gon’ come out de oder side o’ dis. You be awrite.” He would say it until Kurt started to believe it if he had to. A part of him wouldn’t let him forget that Trinity probably needed to hear the same thing. She didn’t wear her heart on her sleeve like Kurtis, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t hurting. And somehow he wasn’t so sure she’d get what she needed playing around with her vampire.
Kurt mentioned returning to breakfast and Michelet immediately shook his head. He almost wanted to laugh at the idea, but refrained from it. He didn’t give a damn what anyone in the cafeteria thought or he wouldn’t have confronted Trinity so publicly in the first place, but he couldn’t see any good outcome to dragging Rathmore back there where all eyes would be on him and not in any good way. With how well known he and Trinity were, the rumor mill was undoubtedly grinding away already. That was no environment for someone hanging on by a thread. Neither was the hallway, which was growing more crowded. Professor Houlihan’s office would provide some privacy and he trusted her to handle the situation compassionately. There was a twinge of guilt for bringing the stressed woman even more work, but the greater sin would be leaving these problems to fester untreated.
The bokor tuned to Kurt. ”You comin’ wit’?” If truth be told, he still didn’t think Kurt should be alone just yet. In a perfect world, he’d have a chat with the professor himself, maybe get some guidance. But it wasn’t a perfect world and Michelet would settle for just keeping an eye on the duke. That might mean parting from Rowan for a little while, but even if so then he knew his big-hearted roommate would understand.
Kurt was glad the men didn't judge him for his sudden out pouring of emotions. He doubted Rowan would have, after all the witch had already seen the Duke cry once today. Though Michelet too supported him with his kind words. He almost wished he could make up with Trinity as easily, but no. Miss Blake had made it clear that she hated her shackle of a fiancé all along. He didn't blame her and he wanted to tell her so, but should he? There was a wonder on what Rowan and Michelet would suggest. Maybe he could ask them? After all, they had offered their support and guidance. It would be rude to ignore that now after the moment of open connection the three men just shared.
That deeper discussion could come later though, it was a matter of deciding where the two men wished to go next. Thankfully both men leaned towards fixing Rowan's curse. Even if Rowan claimed it wasn't too bad, there was no sense on risking further exposure. Again, Kurt didn't know how curses worked, and that unknowing made him more nervous. “Good. Very good.” He nodded, trying not to seem too pleased at the decision. As much as he would have returned to breakfast for them, Houlihan's office was still the preferred option.
On asking how long it would take, Kurt had no clue. He supposed Professor Houlihan was a powerful witch, he hadn't given it much thought. Either way, he would be glad to join them if they allowed, and from Michelet's invite it appeared they did. “Yes, of course. I'd be thankful to know Rowan here is free of it.” The blond cocked a shy smile as he ruffled his own fringe back into place. “You said the Professor managed to clear you of yours easy enough, right?” There was a bit of nervous realisation to his question. As Rowan said, Houlihan may be powerful, but even Kurt had heard about curses backfiring when tampered with. He worried about how it could harm the man who had been so kind to him.
They weren't too far from Houlihan's office, only having to cross over the front of the main building they were in, so Kurt turned the corner and headed in that direction. As he walked, his head was on an anxious swivel, jittering at the thought of running into his ex-fiancé again. She had left, but he wasn't sure where to. It was difficult to tell though whether the fear came from protecting his own heart or hers.
        Trinity's question just got Luke laughing. "Heh, yeah. I got that plenty of times, actually." His response made him almost sound like he was proud of it. He then followed it up with some imitation guitar noises and a bunch of rather hyperactive drumming on the steering wheel, that matched the intro to the song of the very same name, Bat Out of Hell. "It's fine, though! I'm still a good driver." He seemed to be implying that he could drive recklessly without it becoming a problem. His confidence in himself might have been reassuring, maybe, if it weren't for the fact that his driving was so unsettling.
        His finger taps eventually lost the actual song's melody and became absent noise, while she picked out music for them, stopping entirely when she picked out one of the playlists. When he glanced away from the road ahead for only a second, to watch her as she checked her own reflection with the shades on, and couldn't help the little grin that spread over his face. They looked nice on her. Then again, it was Trinity Blake. A lot of things probably looked nice on her... or off her.
        Although she didn't continue, once Kurt's name slipped out of her mouth, Luke's mind lingered on it still for a few more moments. Everybody knew about her and Kurt basically being Rathmore's own little royal couple, but... what did they ever actually do? Now that he really thought about it, although he knew he didn't actually know either of them particularly well, he knew of them plenty, just like most everyone else did. But what else came with their reputations? Did they just sit idly, wrapped up in their status, being ooh'd and awe'd over? It sort of reminded him of his mother, and his older brother, both rather haughty witches as well. His vampire father really wasn't much better, among his stuffy, pompous social circles. They always seemed like keeping their reputations and their outward images hoisted up for all to see was some kind of full time job that left them with little else going on in their lives. What did any of these people actually do for fun? Had she, or Duke Blondie either, ever gone out and gotten into any kind of trouble, for no reason other than because it was fun?
        Her choice of phrasing got him grinning more, and he couldn't help but snort with amusement. For a moment, he looked like he very much wanted to say something, but resisted the urge and kept whatever thought he had to himself. "In that case, we'll have to start getting you out more. There's plenty of fun stuff off campus!" Once they drove far enough, anyway, and got past Rathmore's woodsy scenery. Weirdly, it sometimes felt like being in a different world, going from campus where everything felt sort of cut off, to things that were well off-campus beyond the school's forested surroundings.
        Now that they were actually outside of campus, and the surrounding woods, he kept his driving more tame. At least tame enough to (hopefully) avoid getting them pulled over. Not that he cared too much. Normally when he got a ticket, he ignored it for as long as possible, until his brother would eventually find out and call him to b***h about it and tell him not to behave in such an irreputable manner, or something like that. Considering Eli was the whole reason he ended up at a dance that got swarmed with demon dogs from some cursed devil portal, he was almost tempted to get tickets on purpose and mail them to Eli to be an a**. It wouldn't actually affect Eli in any way, but it would piss him off, and sometimes that was worth whatever fines he got stuck paying off. He pushed that idea to the back of his mind for now, though, and instead got them parked somewhere close to the door. Trinity didn't need to have to go too far on an injured leg.
        Once they were parked, he was out of the driver's side pretty quick, to come around to her side to help her out. She could keep leaning on him if she wanted to. Even before the doors to the bronco were opened, the smell from the burger place was pretty strong. Scents of grilling meat and greasy fries. A big sign in the window said something about serving breakfast, but their idea of breakfast was, apparently, a burger or chicken sandwich with an egg added to it, and "hashbrown bites" (they were absolutely just tater tots) as a side instead of fries or something. "It's kinda weird being here so early. I think I'm usually here later in the day, like way after noon, or sometimes super early in the morning, after midnight." In the afternoon it was usually busier, but now? It was pretty quiet, at least for sitting in.
        "Anyway... we can decide what else we wanna do while we eat, if you want. After being stuck in a dorm for days, it's way passed time for a change of scenery." Strangely enough, he was finding that it wasn't quite as easy to jump into mischief with Trinity, as it would be if he were with the others. With Izzy, Callie, and Lexi. But he chalked it up to simply not being accustomed to having someone like her as his company. The eagerness was there, but there was also a rather uncharacteristic touch of trepidation that he wasn't entirely sure how to deal with.
Izzy couldn't help but grin and chuckle at Luna's innocent confusion by her room mate's description. “Don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll run into the twit eventually.” Lucas Levy-Hawk always had a way of popping up out of the woodwork when least expected. To be honest she was surprised that Luna knew of her but not Luke? The only times she left the dorm was when her excitable room mate dragged her or the classes she gave a s**t enough about to attend. She wondered for a moment before shrugging it off again.
As her hand reached out with an impish grin she was full of cocky confidence, but as it hung alone in the air she began to question herself. 'Damn, did I scare her?' Her pin-p***k pupils scanned worriedly over Luna's expression, reading deeply into the hesitation and fear present. 's**t' Izzy's hand relaxed to pull away and give the girl some room, but she froze at the sight of a small pale hand that slowly drifted up to meet it. Her eyes snapped back to Luna's at the pause, there was still hesitation there, and Izzy panicked to move in either direction.
The soft skin that grazed her calloused fingertips made her even more unsure. There was almost a sense of embarrassment as she trailed her eyes down to the lingering touch. Luna's touch was like silk, Izzy's hands however were more rugged than they appeared from over five decades of guitar strings and rough living. Her chained ear flicked insecurely, jingling among the lingering silence. She should just apologise for the overall brashness and pull away, but as the thought crossed her mind, the tender touch clasped firmly. Izzy automatically held tighter as Luna added her weight to rise off the couch. Even the girl's smile was unconsciously mimicked as they stared in eyeline for a beat.
Brushing the stupid smile off her face as she was dragged away, she relaxed a bit as they walked towards her dorm room. Maybe she was just worrying for nothing and projecting her own damage onto Luna too much? She glanced sidelong to the white haired girl and remembered how panicked she was a moment ago at the mention of someone out to get her. The thought had her hand squeezing the soft hand in her grasp. There was no way she could do nothing though, right?... 'Damn pain in the ******** arse, Izzy! Screw it.' Fine, even if she was projecting, Izzy would be there for Luna as much as the shy girl wanted.
The mental grumbling with her own frustratingly true moral compass, she didn't even realise she reached her dorm room. Fumbling to pull out her key she groaned a few swears before finally making her way into the room. Slipping off the guitar case she left it next to the door and grabbed a nearby messenger bag. Throwing out a few things and adding a few others she stepped back out into the hallway and closed the door again. After slinging the new strap over her shoulder she took Luna's hand again with more absent-minded confidence.
It was only down the hall to the exit and Izzy stepped quicker a few paces and held the heavier door for Luna. Her tired eyes squinted at the bright natural light before adjusting to scan around. Before her mind could wander further though the squeeze to her hand drew her attention over to the girl beside her again. She followed Luna's eye-line down to the dangling bandage. “Ah bollocks.” Clearly some stitches had popped as well, it was already starting to bleed through. “Aye, we need to get that seen too.” Looking back out over the campus to remember where they said the pop-up station was, she actually managed to spot it.
With a quick glance down at Luna's bleeding injury she suddenly felt guilty for not getting Luna's crutch. “Come on.” Leaning into Luna's side she pulled her linked arm up and around her shoulder so the injured girl could support herself. With the arm around Izzy's shoulder she let it go and tucked her own arm around the small waist at her side to hold her steady. “Try not to put too much weight on it, alright? I got you.” Supporting Luna in this way brought back the memory of dragging the injured Lex out of the massacre a few nights ago. The usually brash imp suddenly took on a serious and quiet demeanour as they hobbled along towards the tent. Her hand held the small frame tightly to her side to support her best she could, but her mind was else where.
It wasn't until they entered the tent she snapped back into reality. “Oh, for ******** sake!” The place was definitely more crowded than she anticipated. With an annoyed growl she glanced around the interior while Luna suggested they could come back later. Even if they wanted to wait there was barely any place to stand never mind sit. She kept her sight weaving around the room for a moment longer, they couldn't just leave and come back later though. Luna's bandage was beginning to look like a leg warmer with no elastic, peeling and bunching red around the ankle.
Finally she spotted something of use. With an annoyed sigh she stepped back next to the door so Luna could lean on the wall while she stepped away. Leaving the injured girl there, she began weaving her way through the crowd towards a table deeper in. Once there she picked through the open containers. It was just a bunch of first aid supplies in bulk tubs that the nurses were occasionally dashing back to. With the crowds though no one was paying any mind, so she picked up a bandage and glanced back to Luna with a shrug before sliding it into her bag, along with a few other pieces.
With no one having stopped her the scrawny vamp slinked back out towards Luna. “Alright, I got what we need.” She shuffled the supplies around within the bag before saddling up along side the girl and wrapping an arm around the petite waist to support her again. “Let's go somewhere a little less crowded, huh?” It didn't really matter where, just somewhere preferably indoors where Izzy could slap a temporary bandage on the girl. Leading them out she'd begin heading towards the main building. If their final destination was the cafeteria they could always just n** into an empty classroom or even the cafeteria itself would do.
        "Perfect! That's where we'll go, then." The agreement seemed to brighten Rowan's face even more than it already had been. He, too, did not want to leave Kurt alone. Even if he seemed to be in better spirits now, for a second time, it was still probably not a good idea to leave him alone where he might become bombarded again with his own unwanted thoughts or emotions. That, and they didn't actually know where, specifically, Trinity had gone off to. What if they encountered one another again? Would she go out of her way to say things to hurt him again? He didn't want to think about that. Instead, he wanted to focus on being rid of whatever weird curse it was that Blaise had put on him, and then after that... well, perhaps Kurt would want a turn to chat with the professor. If not now, then maybe later on. Whenever he was ready for it. If not now, then perhaps the three of them could find something entertaining to get up to, and maybe see about asking Penny along too! It was too nice out to do nothing but dwell on unhappy things.
        The little bounce had returned to his steps, as they ventured off down the hallway, and even without looking directly at Kurt, he could see the way the man was keeping his gaze moving about. They would definitely have to find something fun, and enjoyable for all three of them, to get up to after they were done with seeing Houlihan. He took a few quicker steps ahead, turning to face them both while walking backwards, trying to make sure he didn't accidentally run into anyone in the hall. "I really appreciate you both coming along with me." he smiled very warmly as he said it. "And for worrying about me. Even though it feels fine, and it's not bothering me, I really don't deal with that sort of magic. I'm not sure what this actually is, but since it's been kind of spreading up my arm, I guess at some point it would become some kind of problem?" Saying it out loud just made him realize, more and more, that he should have said something about it sooner, instead of worrying so much that it would place some added stress on others. Especially if it turned out to be pretty easy to resolve. "What I'm trying to say is, I've been staying very calm about it, but it has been worrying me, and I'm really glad you're both here with me. I think it'll go fine."
        Yep, with the two of them there, he did feel more at ease than he might have if he'd gone to see professor Houlihan by himself. As he turned to face forward again, their group coming up on her office, he spied the vibrant red hair right away. It looked like she was heading into her office at that moment. "Oh! Perfect timing!" He wondered a bit to himself if they would have had to wait around outside her office for her to return, if they'd come at a less convenient time. If they did, maybe they could have killed the time with a game. Of course, they could always play a game afterward too. Several of his siblings were fond of pictionary. He shoved the thought out of his head for now, instead giving a wave to help get her attention, as he took the last few steps toward her office door more quickly.
        "Professor Houlihan! Are you very busy right now?" Hopefully she didn't have anybody she needed to meet with right away, that they might be cutting in front of. He didn't want to imagine how busy she probably had been, since the formal. Plenty of students had probably needed some extra support from her following the incident. "Michelet said you wanted me to come see you too, about a curse." He made a point to say the latter part a little more quietly, as if concerned that other students nearby might be unsettled by something curse-related. Were he not dealing with one himself, he would probably be put off by talk of curses as well, though 'cursed' didn't even begin to describe that portal in the event hall, or the nightmare that poured out of it.
        𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 → hallway outside Houlihan's office
        𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺 → Kurt & Michelet & Houlihan
        𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴Hopefully this will go alright!
“I will acknowledge that you are strong. Because… you are someone that knows the same pain of loneliness that I do. And… that pain makes a person stronger.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Location: Pop-Up Station to Lecture Room ➤Company: Izzy ➤Mood/Thoughts: She stayed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luna flinched at the sudden exclamation. Her shoulders curled inward slightly, having been more used to those loud voices directed at her, and along with those same voices came…
But Izzy was not them, and they were not near. She forced the slight trembling of her hand to cease, clenching it tightly until tiny crescent moons marred her palm. Luna let out a breath, hoping that her reaction had gone unnoticed as embarrassment, guilt, and more prominently shame swirled in vicious swoops in her mind. Shame, that despite her best efforts she could only be nothing more than a burden to others.
Luna watched as Izzy scanned the room, for what exactly? She was unsure of. She let Izzy’s annoyed growl settle in her, “It is a little more crowded isn’t it. If you just give me a minute I ca-”. Before her sentence was finished she felt Izzy move beside her. They shifted back towards the wall and Izzy steadied her against it. “What are y-.” When Izzy walked away, Luna’s hand unconsciously reached out, but was thwarted by a passing student. They turned around and gave her an annoyed look that made Luna shrivel into herself. She pushed herself against the heated interior as if in some way trying to become one with the surface.
When Luna looked back up for Izzy, she realised that she had lost her to the crowd. She lifted her injured leg and began jumping on one foot. Despite her very best efforts, so many of Rathmore’s students were just tall enough for it to fall short. Izzy had left without saying anything, Luna wondered if the girl had had enough of her and simply deposited her in the nearest convenient location and simply walked away. It made sense though, who would want to take care of an injured girl when the first day out of lock-down presented itself in front of them.
Luna resolved herself to a long wait alone. It was fine… everything was fine… just… fine. She sighed. She spotted a trio of girls get up and walk out the door opening up space in a small corner covered in shadows. Using the wall as a crutch she hobbled over to the empty space melting into the background, waiting for a free volunteer. As she waited, Luna wondered if she should simply use her ruined dress as a makeshift bandage when a spot of blue caught her eye.
It was Izzy. The crowd had parted for the briefest of moments, just enough for Luna to catch the girl looking back at her with a shrug. A sense of warmth bloomed through her, unconsciously her face broke out in a smile. When she did notice, Luna ducked her head, letting her chin rest against her collarbone and long strands of silvery silken hair curtained her view. She stayed, [ and Luna was absolutely over the moon. She couldn’t help it when the smile only grew more. The giddy giggle caused a few heads to turn, when they realised that there was in fact someone there. She covered her face in her hands.
She stayed.
Before Izzy could see her like this Luna schooled her face in calm neutrality, even smiling just a little when the girl stopped in front of her. “What did you find?” Luna inquired. Though she had seen the girl by a supplies station, her view had been covered only moments later, obscuring what Izzy had eventually decided as necessary.
After checking the contents of her bag, Izzy moved to slide her arm around her waist. This way she didn’t need to fully lean on the girl to make up for the height difference as she had had to earlier. Luna didn’t take her eyes off of Izzy while she adjusted her grip to something more comfortable; not when they exited the pop-up station; and not even when Izzy asked her if she wanted to go somewhere less crowded. Luna could only nod. Words had escaped her the moment she noticed Izzy tuft of blue hair back at the station. She was simply awed.
Luna limped on one foot, making sure to keep most of her weight off of Izzy as they made their way to the main building. The more that she did though, the more blood from her ankle seeped into the bandages. The smell of blood wafted through the air. She knew that the other supernaturals were surely able to smell it. Luna unwrapped Izzy’s arm from around her. The position made their trek just a little slower than it should be. She was a vampire after all, she shouldn’t be the weak frail thing that was brought down by a simple were bite. Luna moved Izzy’s hand in her own and gave it a little squeeze before tossing back a smile. “Let’s go.” She hobbled much faster than before, tugging Izzy along. Luna hoped that this was not too forward, or brash for someone who was a stranger not 10 minutes ago.
Inside the building, on the way to the cafeteria, Luna peered through the little windows of every passing door. Eventually she came across one in which she could see no one. “Give me one second,” she said to Izzy quietly while pushing the door open. Luna popped her head in scanning the room for anyone. When she deemed that the room was well and truly empty, Luna held the door open for Izzy. Once through, Luna let the door close with a soft click.
The room that they were in was a large lecture hall. Seats lined up along long tables that steadily raised in an inclination fashion that faced the screen at the front. Like a movie theatre… but for students. The motion sensor lights seemed to have been turned off as the room remained in darkness. “Sorry,” Luna whispered. She felt weird speaking normally in a dark room, as if the sound might call out to unknown creatures. “I just…” She stumbled on her words. “Last week… it’s just… the blood” Luna looked down at her leg. Red had begun spotting the floor. “With everything that happened to you guys,” Luna took a shuddering breath. “There are supernaturals everywhere… and the smell of blood… after something like that. I just, I just didn’t want to make anyone panic. So…” Luna looked around the empty space. “I thought it would be better this way.” Her eyes landed back on pinned pupils.
Izzy helped the limping Luna back out of the tent. “Just some s**t I can use to put you back together. You know... Bandages, scissors... a bonesaw.” She smirked off to the side, to see Luna staring at her with a look she couldn't immediately place. The girl at least nodded to moving on, so Izzy looked on ahead towards the main building.
As the vamp walked though, she couldn't help but feel Luna's big red eyes on her. Shifting glances to the girl she couldn't tell if she had done something wrong. Izzy awkwardly flittered around in her head till she suddenly came to a stop as Luna unravelled herself from her. 'Ah s**t, I push it too much?' Her hand reached up and nervously rubbed the back of her neck, about to apologise, but the words were stopped when Luna's soft hand took hold of her own again. Her eyes darted back to the bright smile that cheerily tugged her along.
Glad that she hadn't scared Luna off from being too casual she couldn't help but smile back, although worriedly. The more weight and movement on that ankle the more damage it would do. Izzy again began inwardly cursing for being the idiot to convince Luna out of her crutch. When will she learn to leave well enough alone. She made excuses in her head that she was just trying to be friendly and give a bit of support to someone who seemed as though they needed both. These didn't stand for long though, she knew practically nothing about the girl other than the small bits she had gleamed, so why would she assume her help was needed of all people.
Once back inside Izzy took a break from beating herself up, when Luna stopped them at a door and poked her head in. The rebellious vampire reflexively glanced around to see if anyone was watching before realising that it didn't matter. It wasn't like she was with Luke playing lookout. As soon as Luna opened the door she stepped into the lecture hall and glanced around, her eyes adjusting to the dim light.
When Luna suddenly whispered an apology though, Izzy snapped to her with a tilted look of confusion and worry. Her brows furrowed slowly as she pieced together the fragments. “Hey...” The return of low whisper being huskier than intended as she cooed to settle the girl. “...It's okay.” A calloused thumb stroked over the still held silken hand in a soothing motion with her eyes expressing only soft concern as she stared back.
With a blinked she dropped her eyes back down to Luna's bandaged. “Oh bollocks...” The slight smile she had been unconsciously holding dropped to a snarl at the sight of Luna's blood now dripping onto the floor. “Here, Lu, sit down.” Whispering again as she indicated to the chair before finally releasing her hand from Luna's so she could take off her jacket and throw it next to the bag. “Now where the ******** is the light in here.” Izzy spun wildly on her heels as she looked around.
It was a relief to hear that Kurt would come with them as that meant Michelet could continue to keep an eye on him and Rowan both. He would have made the choice if he had to, but he was happier not to have to make that decision. Damn, at this rate he was going to have trouble keeping tabs on all of the people he actually cared about, at least a little. But he supposed that was normal. Rowan had nineteen brothers and sisters; how could anyone keep up with that many people once they left the nest? But for someone who had spent most of his life caring about only one person and always knowing where she was, more or less, it was a bit mind boggling to think the day might come when he would need a second hand to count all of his friends. He’d have to start counting on his toes if he included the people he didn’t mind so much.
Michelet nodded when asked about the removal of his curse. ”Da professah mek it look easy. Mebbe someday I ask how she do; iz no so simple in vodun.” The bokor was still stunned by it, but hadn’t questioned it. The professor was older and more experienced than he was, so it was not unthinkable that she had some tricks up her sleeve that he just wouldn’t. It just made him even more eager to learn everything he could from this place and the people in it. But Kurt seemed nervous. Should he be more worried? Was he asking too much of the woman after all? Michelet mentally shook the thought loose; he had already decided that he trusted her and he wasn’t going to renege on that trust now.
As they walked the duke kept looking from side to side as though a ghost might leap out in front of him at any moment. Of course it was no ghost he looked out for, but rather a dark haired witch with his heart still in her hand. Michelet tried to concentrate on where Trinity might be, but he could not get a good fix on her. His attention was too split; he was hyper aware of Kurt, Rowan, and the professor’s office. Still, he had a sense that he could not easily walk to Trinity, so that was as good as it was going to get.
Rowan’s high spirits were a bit infectious, at least for Michelet, and he idly wondered if the effect was intended or just the witch’s natural effervescence. Either was entirely believable. He had a bounce in his step as he expressed his appreciation for them joining him and worrying about him. Michelet didn’t see how he could have done any less, really. They didn’t know what Rowan’s curse was doing to him, but it couldn’t be good and he wanted to know it was cleared up as soon as possible. ”Still kickin’ mahself Ah no notice before now. But now we know, we get you taken care of. So there nowhere I rather be.”
As they approached the office, they could see Professor Houlihan approaching it as well. Good, it really was perfect timing just as Rowan said. Michelet remained quiet for the moment as his chipper roommate called out to the professor and explained their reason for being there. He lowered his voice when speaking of a curse making Michelet blink and look around them. Was he worried that someone would overhear? Bringing his gaze back to Professor Houlihan, he added, ”Ah hope iz awrite me an’ Kurt join in. Won’ get in you way.” It wasn’t his place to explain the duke’s mental state or why he was with them, though he suspected such an observant woman had already determined there was something more to it than just choosing one another’s company. At some point, he would properly apologize for putting so much on her plate when it was already so full but now just was not the time.
Houlihan was just on her way back to the office after pulling some new files from the records room, most importantly among them; Blaise and Roxas. Hopefully she could have a chance to scan through them before the meeting. Really she should have a nap after draining herself by taking Michelet's curse, but there was too much to do and not enough time, recharging would have to come later.
With the folders under one arm she fumbled her key into the lock when a voice called out to her. The sleep deprived woman was startled briefly and spun her head to see the bright sunflower approaching. “Rowan?” She looked down confusedly, wondering what he could need from her when her brain finally caught up as he began to speak. “Oh! Rowan! Yes, of course.” Shaking the fog from her head she proceeded to unlock the door. Michelet's voice suddenly froze her again though, not having noticed his or Kurtis' presence.
There was a moment of hesitation as her tired mind tried to comprehend everything. First off, what was Rathmore's duke doing with them? At first she worried if the stuck up boy was bothering them, but as she read into the blond more it became very clear. “Oh sweetie... I'm sorry.” The usually blinding sun was barely a flickering glimmer, this along with the scars torn over his heart she had all the information she needed. Having a conversation with him later may be necessary but right now was other priorities. She turned to Michelet with slight concern. Well... She couldn't not let them in she supposed, with a defeated sigh she opened the door and stepped inside. “Very well, please come in.”
Once inside she left the door to them and headed for her desk, pulling open the same draw as earlier she slid the files inside and quickly closed it again. “Okay!” She said airily, while turning to the room to get her bearings. Taking a notepad from the table she moved over to the seats, “Rowan?” She indicated for him to sit in the same seat as Michelet had earlier as she sat in the chair opposite. “So, have you noticed any anomalies? Anything weird or different?” Flicking through the notepad she got to the part she had written up earlier about the curse she had transferred from Michelet. Every piece of information she could gleam was important, especially if she was going to be having not just one but two of these curses inside her. Knowing what risks she was facing and its potential triggers would at least give her a chance to avoid the fallout.
“I will acknowledge that you are strong. Because… you are someone that knows the same pain of loneliness that I do. And… that pain makes a person stronger.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Location: Lecture Hall ➤Company: Izzy ➤Mood/Thoughts: Embarrassed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A light pink dusted her cheeks when the cadence in Izzy’s voice dropped to a huskier level. Her voice elicited a feeling within her that she couldn’t quite put a word to. The way Izzy’s calloused thumb brushed over her hand and her gaze gently resting on her didn’t help organising the feelings that swirled up. Luna gave her a slight smile as she dropped her head to hide behind her shield of hair. “Okay,” she whispered back. Her own voice, light and hesitant.
Though the moment was broken in a fleeting breeze when Izzy’s gaze reached the blood pooling around her ankle. She startled slightly, Izzy’s voice filling up the empty space around her. Though it didn’t hurt, she had grown numb to the pain over the weekend, her ankle looked pretty bad covered in cloth and blood. Luna wondered about the charged air that had surrounded the two just seconds ago. What had caused it? And why did her heart and mind react the way that it did? And wasn’t it just last week that Lexi caused these same bodily reactions within her? Luna felt guilt wash over her. She couldn’t make sense of these emotions, not when she was more used to moving through life alone. Someone really needed to make a “emotions for dummies” book, knowing that some other poor soul would need it just as much as her.
Absently, Luna moved towards that chair where Izzy had pointed towards. It’s rough surface doing wonders in making her uncomfortable. Why didn’t universities invest more in ergonomic appliances, she muttered more to herself than anyone else. She examined the unravelling bandages that hung heavily from her leg. The blood soaking more than half of the wrap. She cradled her thigh against her chest to better access the wrap. Her skirt slid up slightly, revealing more of her leg than anyone really needed to see. She slowly unwrapped the long cloth, thankful that nothing snagged on the open skin underneath. Not that it was likely with all the blood wetting the cloth.
Beneath, her ankle looked like shreds of skin. When it happened and even over the weekend, Luna refused to look at her marred skin. Opting for the nurses to bandage up and forget about its existence for the while. But now here in the darkness she saw pools of dark liquid dripping through the snapped stitches. She kept her leg tucked close as she looked at the slow drag of dark red, nearly black, in blank memorization, while Izzy went to find the light switch.
When the light flipped on, Luna’s eyes adjusted in startling clarity. “Oh,” she let out in a hushed whisper. She had not realised just how… horrid it looked in actuality. Flesh hung loose where the stitches failed to hold it together. She poked one chunk with a slender finger and pushed it back into its ‘proper’ place. “I wasn’t expecting it to look like this to be honest. It didn’t hurt that badly so I just thought it was… small.”
Luna glanced back over to Izzy, “looks like we won’t need that bonesaw after all,” she laughed. Hoping to preemptively lighten the mood. “It’s okay though, I can wrap this up quickly.” She rested her head on top of her knee, shifting slightly to cover up her exposed thigh, needing to keep at least a little bit of modesty.
