User Image Culture shock? She hadn't had that issue, herself, but.... Now that she thought about it, didn't they have this issue consistently? How many new people had come to the academy daily? What about when the Above races appeared in their school grounds? Now that she thought about it.... what would she do?

'If someone I knew was having an issue, I'd try and calm them down. Make them a new outfit, or take them to a movie, unless that triggered the reaction. Go for ice-cream, maybe? Just normal hang-out things to try and comfort them, if possible.

I also would do my best to help explain. I'm not the smartest Chimera out there, by far, but I like to think I have a grasp on the world around me. I'd do my best, anyway!'

Hmmmn. Pick a city and talk about why you'd want to go there, huh? Abel vaguely remembered a few freshlings talking about having the same assignment in the past for their Social Studies class. Granted, it was an easy assignment for freshlings, so it was even easier for a junior.

"Shellmount is somewhere I'd really like to go. I'm a huge fan of seafood, and is one of the only Imp cities in the world. I can't really complain about their specializing in salt either. It's curious to think that the city both specializes in salt and seafood, but you won't hear me complaining about that! I wonder if I could convince my demoness to go with me ... hmmn ... "

Abel rubbed her chin in thought. She would have to bring it up with her lady later.

User Image “Death's Kiss in Boreas is one of my favorite places in all of the Below, mostly because it’s where I’m from. It gets pretty chilly up in Boreas, but if you climb some of the mountains, you can get some beautiful views.” Kuchena hated the book’s description of her hometown, she almost wanted to go to the editor and have them update it with something that didn’t sound like a horror novel. She really enjoyed running through the mountain trails as rough as they were.

“The wind nearly sings over the stone and ice, it kinda makes me homesick just thinking about it, though. So, come and visit Death’s Kiss everyone! It’s really nice once you get bundled up!” the litch grinned. Hopefully they listened to her rather than the book.

Hexen blinked. She didn't really know how to answer this one. She had been at the Academy for quite some time now, but ... all the new races slowly filtering in didn't really impact her much. Sure, there were informative presentations they were given before each new group came so that people at the Academy would be as prepared as possible for their latest additions, but Hexen saw new races appearing as the norm. She fully anticipated an endless stream, and so was rather unphased by their existence.

However, it had never really occurred to her that them coming to a seemingly whole new world might impact them.

"Well," she started with a touch of hesitancy. "I don't really have friends. But I guess if I met a Bakeneko or a Naga and like. Actually talked to them. I'd pat them on the back or something and tell them it'd be okay. I dunno if it actually would be or not, but I guess. These things. Take time. To adjust. And stuff. Yunno?"

Hexen nodded. It was true, all things took some getting used to, and she imagined 'culture shock' was no different.

“Oh, I’m not quite sure about all of the places in the Below yet, but I think that Ozryn in Zephyros sounds like a pretty nice place to visit. I would have to save up money because I’m sure that a resort would be expensive, but why not enjoy a getaway?” Not that coming from the Above wasn’t a getaway in and of itself, but it seemed like it would be an interesting adventure.

“Zephyros just seemed like such a large continent, there would surely be more to explore than just Ozryn if I had the chance to visit.” The little goblin looked forward to seeing what this world had to offer her. Hopefully they didn't mind a few more tourists!

Miku had to be honest he really didn't know anything about magic. He was still so young that it was something he hadn't learned yet, and since he was raised in an orphanage he didn't have family exposing him to things that he hadn't learned. However he knew one type of magic, the one that he felt everyone knew about. "I guess my favorite type would be enchantment magic because you can use it on almost any object and they can do cool things. Like you could enchant a shield to be stronger so it doesn't break as easy and that's pretty cool. Not that we're at war anymore, but i'm sure it was used a lot then." He supposed that was a good enough and he looked for the next person to go.

"Let them deal with it on their own." Castus stated quite bluntly, leaning back in his chair with his feet up on his desk, lightly tipping himself back as he rocked back and forth, balanced on one chair leg. "It's their problem to deal with. They should deal with it. It's not up to me to solve their problems for them. If the shock is too much, maybe they should have reconsidered attending the Academy."

This was a tricky question for Vanna. He had never really experienced culture shock. While he had grown up with his clan, when he first came down to asphodel he liked the fact that everything was different. However the assignment wasn’t about how he would handle different culture. So how would Vanna help a friend with culture shock? Well the first thing would be to calm them down. Tell them that they weren’t alone and that he was there to help them. It always helped when you at least knew you had support on your side. Then he would see what aspects of the culture were similar to the one they grew up with. Start out with something familiar and small and then as time progressed he could introduce them to more exotic things. The point was not to just throw them in the deep end without a life jacket but slowly ease them in if it was possible.

User ImageBlythe was antsy, more than usual. Their feet shuffling beneath them as they sat at their desk trying to be as quiet and still as possible, though failing at it by now. Blythe listened intently at the topic. Pick a city and talk about it. Blythe blinked for a moment, then frowned slightly. They didn't really know anything about other city other than the one their baphomet family stayed and the one Blythe was currently in. With limited options, they had to make a quick decision as their turn was fast approaching. "Uhm... There's Alcyone. It used to be the Baphomet capital. It was destroyed in the 50 Year War and is since being rebuilt. I'm also kind of from there." Blythe was soft-spoken for once, not even sure why they were so conflicted about their mood on the matter. It was a weird feeling, but Blythe shook their head. It was best not to dote on it. Blythe then gave a single silent nod then sat down calmly. They were no longer having trouble with the fidgeting as they sat quietly for the remainder of the class, seemingly deep in thought about something.

Emma straightened themselves out in front of the class and puckered their lips. They didn't really have a favorite magic and, quite frankly, didn't intend to use magic in their day to day lives if they didn't have to. It really wasn't a topic they had any opinion about, or, really, that they cared for. Still, this was a class they needed to pass and, even if they'd only spent a few minutes studying a magic type for it, they'd deliver their little speech because they had to.

"Hi, so, I'm going to talk about charm magic." They said, rolling their shoulders. "Charm magic alters things, but only for a little bit. Like, it can make spots disappear from your shirt if you drop something on it, but the spots will come back eventually. It's not something you should use if you want it to be permanent."

They paused, rubbed their wrist and popped their lips.

"And I don't have a favorite magic. Thank you."

As usual, Autumn was very excited to share what she had to say, and the subject couldn't have been any better for her. Magic was something she really liked and wanted to learn more about, espescially shapeshifting. She couldn't help but wonder how Geists disappeared and Grimm turned into beasts, and kind of wished that Imps could shapeshift too!

"Good morning! Today I wanna talk about shapeshifting!" She exclaimed, wiggling in place. "Shapeshifting is a super cool magic that lets you change how you look. Geists use it to disappear and Grimm use it to turn into big beasts! It's really really cool and I wish I could do it! I'd turn into an apple tree, or, no, wait, a spectrefox! It would be so amazing to be a spectrefox!"

She bounced and tapped her chin.

"I guess that's all I know about my favorite magic!"

Darn! Kismet shot a look to the classmate that went before her. Shapeshifting was one of the only magics she knew about. Hmmm... Ah well! "Uhmmm.. Well I really only know about shapeshifting for the most part. Since, y'know, I'm a grimm, it's kinda one of our things. My new dad said he'd show me how to use it sometime! I don't know how to really do much of it myself just yet, but I can't wait for dad to show me!" Of course, when she realized her tail was beginning to wag excitedly, she blushed. "But, I guess I don't really have a favorite. Maybe the enchantments they use of the trick candies! Those are always pretty funny." Giggling a bit, she then took her seat.

Tricia grimaced at the class assignment for the day. Great... geography. Just what she wanted to get into. Not! Grumbling, the elf flipped her book open and half-assed looking at the different maps. Finally, she just picked one and looked away as she drew over the paper with her nail, stopping after a few moments. Leaning in, she squinted and pursed her lips. "Frostfyre..." she muttered in her teacher's direction. "Litches live there and whatever. I don't know what else... about it. Blind pick from my book." and she shrugged, closing her book and looking off to the side to try and find something of more interest. She missed home way too much to care about someone else's home town.

June's ears perked up at the mention of magic. She knew about magic! At least, she knew a little bit. She grabbed her piece of paper and pen and started writing. The words came easier than in her other classes until the end.

The kind of magic I know the most about is divination. I know about divination because that's what my dad is studying in University at Grendel. He sometimes shares some of his assignments with me. Divination is about telling the future, and there are lots and lots of different ways to do it. Some are really old! Some are also really hard, like the one my dad is studying. He has to be super careful or he could get really hurt. That's okay though, cause he's super careful. I don't really have a favorite kind of magic, but I really like it and I want to learn more about it in school.

Mira had to flip through her little social studies notebook and find the magic section to answer the teacher's question. She wasn't all too familiar with magic, but she knew it was very helpful. She read over the different kinds of magic and picked one she liked the most to write about.

After doing some research, I really like charm and enchantment magic. There are so many ways to use charms and enchantments, and it sounds like they're super useful! I would use enchantments and charms in baking so i could be a Crafter and have the best bakery in all of Below! Magic takes a lot of practice and a lot of time to be good at, so I'd have to be super patient, but that's okay! It's something I would look into later on in school.
