It was her stomach that finally woke her up. The hour was coming upon noon when she finally finished dressing and preparing herself for the day. She was in a peculiar mood after her late night. Her head didn't hurt, though; something for which she was terribly grateful.

With an impulsive smile she khoaled her eyes and plaited her hair with decided intricacy, gold flashing in random places. Her drop was left to fall over her plain-spun dress instead of under it and her fingers itched to be bejeweled with at least half a dozen rings that she didn't own. She wasn't sure why she had dressed as she did today, but she enjoyed it like a child enjoys playing dress up in her mother's clothes. Her mood today was innocence, and there was little that could dampen it.

She enthusiastically took up her staff, checked her knives, and threw her bag over her shoulder. She was busy dreaming of things to eat as she headed downstairs, humming to herself. "What might be the fare this lovely morning, kind Sir?" She asked with a charming lilt to her voice and bright eyes flecked with blue.

"Cold mutton and bread, fresh green beans if ye want 'em." He said, with a bit of boredom in his voice. Apparently, he's more jovial in the evening, she reflected to herself.

"That sounds absolutely wonderful!" She said happily. The 'Keep looked questioningly at her tone. "...'s jus' cold mutton..." he said to himself very quietly. She took a seat at a small table near the stairs where she could see the door and began sifting through her bag for her journal.

There was an energy eminating from her. It was bright to anyone who could See and it churned in a riotous display of golds and greens and blues. She knew little of it. In fact, she knew little of herself and her true origins. Her childhood had been normal, except for that one fateful day... She knew she had abilities, but she thought they were nothing too interesting. Other people had talents as well, right? Her parents had never explained to her about what and who she was, what her responsibilities were. She knew how to control her powers and use them to some extents, because her mother had taught her, but control was not knowledge and she was very naive about what she was really capable of. She realized that time didn't effect the same way it effected other humans, but this too she took for granted. She was not unintelligent, but she was notoriously shifty in her moods and she never really had the time or inclination to reflect on herself in depth.

As her food arrived, she ate it heartily and when she finished, she laid down a few coins and headed outside to the streets of Tier. They were disheartening, but she didn't really let this sink in. She was focused on one goal and to that destination she headed with little thought for anything else. She was attentive to threats, because it was an instinct her father had trained into her, but her steps quickened as she made for the gates of Tier. There was a lake just outside the city and to the east and she was desperate to explore the area. In fact, she had played with the idea of following the river from the lake all the way down to the coast. It had been years since she'd been in the ocean and she was longing for a taste of salt water on her lips and the feel of waves carressing her as she swam.

After a while of thinking, sitting on the railing of the porch, Jaster came to a realization. He'd need to take the initiative if he wanted to start anew. He didn't know exactly what he was going to do, but he decided that he'd start with what he was good at. His battlefield skills were unmatched, and if Tier had use of a Freelance Mercenary, he would be more than happy to take the job. He decided he must look the part, though, and headed back to his room.

He took everything but the platemail off, cleaned and polished his sword, and polished it's sheath. He tied it off around his hip and sheathed his sword. He picked up his crossbow, and re-aligned it. He hung it from his side, and painstakingly centered it with his canter. He placed the bolts in their pouch, also clipped to his side. He peered quickly into the looking glass, and touched up his hair. He smiled to himself and thought, It's a bit much...but damned if they need a warrior and don't choose me.

He stepped out into the day once more, off the porch, and headed into town. The sun glinted brightly off his polished platemail, and the clanking of his boots echoed with every step. He wasn't sure where he was going, but he was going into town. Somebody, somewhere, had to be delegating jobs unto the people here. If any such person resided in Tier, he'd find them.

((George, I think it's just you and me, my friend....))

Kernyel had arrived at the lake outside of town and she was happily frolicking in the water and under it with decided abandon. Her hair was now a wet mass of braids and gold with strands escaping here and there and her clothes were hopelessly soaked. And she didn't care. She was at home and she sighed in happiness and contentment. She was busy making the water glow in intricate and dancing patterns and playing with the fish in the depths of the lake when she heard a beautiful, musical sound in the distance. Her attention was completely drawn by this new occurrence and she followed the sound until she was sure it was a voice, singing, under the water where she was. Forgetting all of her weapons and belongings still on the shore, she strove to discover the source of this enchanting song farther and farther down the river and towards the sea.

She was excited and captivated and her curiosity was excruciating. Time and distance seemed not to matter in her ardent search. She didn't notice her tired body or the sun crossing the sky and the clouds becoming pink in the twilight.

Finally, she reached the ocean and became completely uninhibited. Had she been able to see herself from another's point of view, the change in her physical appearance would have shocked her. She was no longer in a human form and she brought a glittering light of her own everywhere she went in the dark depths of the sea. The sound finally ceased its movement and as she approached its source, she was dazzled. A being that looked remarkably similar to herself at the time was there and she intertwined with it playfully. She was happier than she had ever been in her life and had no other thought except for the joy of that moment.

The spell was broken by an ominous darkness that seemed to threaten from the distance. You have to stop this! Only you can save our kind from the fate that looms before us, Kernyel. Seek you the tablet of light and receive your path there. cried a desperate voice in her head as Kerynel was seized by a force that seemed to sear into her very soul and infuse her with power until she thought she would burst. And just as quickly, she found herself at the surface, gasping for air and clawing at the water to stay afloat before being unceremoniously cast upon the shore, hair in disarray and cream dress clinging to her, heavy with water. She was scared and confused and didn't know what to do or where to go. The last words of the voice echoed softly in her head and she scrambled desperately away from the shore and into the forest that lay some yards away from the edge of the sea.

After reaching the relative safety of the woods, she collapsed into a fitful sleep that lasted all of the night and into the early morning. When she woke, she was cold, but not from any coolness in the air. And on her hands were six gold rings with stones similar to the one that lay nestled between her breasts.

With a shock, she looked down at her hands for long moments. Each stone flashed, low-sunk, in wide bands of gold on her thumbs, middle fingers, and pinkies on each hand.... And her hands....Are they blue? she thought incredulously. She blinked, shook her head, and stared at them again... No, that's not possible...you're just ...tired... That's right, just tired. She sighed and stood up on shaky legs, making the long hike back to the lake outside of Tier; her head a jumble of questions and voices and her own voice praying this was all a bad dream.

Mariah woke up and moved, her bed creaking with every slight adjustment of her body. She had found her way home in the night and decided to turn in. Azure eyes scanned her tiny room as she reach up and grabbed her hairbrush, running it through her short hair. Sighing, she got dressed in her usual garb and tied her azure scarf around her neck. Having to reach under her bed for her boots, she let out a frightened squeel as a spider crawled out from under her bed, skittering acrossed her hand.

Sighing, Mariah gave a small giggle to her own fear and slipped on her boots as well as the white slips on her arms, having a bit of difficulty tieing them tight. Standing up, she brushed a bit of dust off her knees and her yellow dress. Giving her hair a last check over, she waved goodbye to her father before stepping outside of the house, off to do her chores for the day and then to see what else she could do. Mariah kept a warm smile on her face as she walked with her hands behind her back, humming a soft tune as she went.

Jaster walked throughout all of Tier. He was greeted at every turn by dirty looks, and sometimes by fear. He didn't quite understand why anyone should fear him, much less despise him. He tried the Tavern again, asked the barkeep if there was any such person delegating jobs out to those in need of work, but there wasn't. After some time, he found himself by the gates of Tier. He looked out down the path he had traveled to arrive here, and as the sun set behind him, he saw something that he had never seen before. He was almost positive that it wasn't really there, but he saw it nonetheless.

In the distance, down the worn road, beacons of pure light shone from the sky and down to the earth. Without much trouble he realized that each beam struck a different town here. He looked down at himself, and he was bathed in pure, white light. It shone brightly off his platemail, and illuminated every feature of his face. Without any warning whatsoever, the light streaming down upon the towns in the distance turned black. However, the light that Jaster was bathed in stayed white. A brilliant flash of light turned his attention to the west. He saw nothing, but he knew he had to go and see. He looked back to the north and the light over the towns had dissapated. The white light over him had faded, and the flash of light was nowhere to be seen. It dawned on him that this was his new life. He didn't need to make a new life for himself, for whichever god had visted upon him this revalation had just told him that your new life would involve the whole land, and that you will need to cleanse the darkness from the land. He would always be a wanderer, and it seemed that in a brilliant flash of light he had realized this.

Remembering the brilliant flash of light, he took off at full sprint for the shore. As he passed the lake, he ran beyond a pile of weapons, some jewelery, and personal belongings. He didn't know who they belonged to, but he was almost convinced that they were in trouble. He looked frantically back and forth in almost every direction, and saw no one. In a haste, he removed his platemail and leapt into the lake. He dove deep, and looked round for any sign, but there was no one under the water either. He crawled from the lake and sat on the shore until he was dried. He put his platemail back on, and knelt by the pile of belongings. He said a quick prayer for their peace, and then sat by the lake once more. His eyes gazed over the peaceful water and eventually settled, and he fell into almost a trance-like state.

((Hello. This is my first rp post. I am kind of confused as to what is going on, but i'll just do an introduction of my character (which, I have posted in the character library).))

Jaz's firm and steady stride had weakened to a slow and dragging stumble. She had been traveling for almost a week now, and her rations had been diminishing. Sighing deeply, she gazed around the dreary forest that she had been staring at for days on end. "God dammit." she whispered to herself in frustration. "I'm lost.... fantastic!" Frowning deeply at her situation, she stopped to rest in a tree for awhile. What was the point of trying to find a way out when she was ready to drop dead....

When she awoke, she yawned and streached her arms out, reveling in the relief that came from it. From what she could see of the sun, she hadn't slept long. Rubbing her eyes, she slowly and carefully got up from the tree branch she had laid upon. "I must find some way out of this forest."

((Hope it's okay! If there is anything I should change please let me know...))

((Score! Scooby doo!-ness!))

Her dress was dry now, even if it was dirty. Her eyes were roving over the undergrowth of the trees, searching for any sign of useful plants. She was attempting to distract herself from all the things that swam inside her skull. Lights, blue tinted skin... Gods! , she thought for the umpteenth time.

She looked a bit haggard and drawn. Her hair was not improved much by her night on the forest floor and consequent (sp?) day of trudging through the forest. Finally, she arrived at the far side of the lake. She needed to swim it or walk around. For the first time in her life, she felt fear and anxiety about being in the water. So it was, with a loud sigh of regret, she headed doggedly west back to where she started and where her cloak and belongings would be.

She reached the shore where her effects were to be found just before the sun began its decent into twilight. She hadn't eaten all day and the day before she'd spent almost entirely in the water. She was completely drained of all her energy and it showed. All she wanted now was a warm bath and to sleep in a soft bed for a long time. She barely noticed Jaster sitting by her things, so dazed and single-minded was she on the goal of obtaining her things and sleeping.

She knelt down by the pile and shivered, taking her cloak and slowly putting it on. it was as she was slipping her cuffs on that she fnially noticed Jaster sitting not a yard away, starring into nothingness. "wha..." She began, confused again and shocked. Almost instantly after opening her mouth, she remembered her skin and starred down at her hands again, only to see with horror that in the fading light her skin actually seemed to put off a faint glow on top of being tinged with blue-green. She gasped and hurriedly took her things and threw up her hood to cover her face, pulling the cloak close to cover herself completely.

She was almost ready to dash into town and hide in the nearest inn, when she noticed Jaster's slight movement. She paused in horror, waiting to see if he had noticed her condition. It was a stretch. She was running on pure adrenaline at that moment, and hardly thinking coherently, let alone speaking with any sense. It would only take the smallest thing to make her bolt, and just then, even she didn't know (or care) which direction she would run to...
PostPosted: Thu Apr 20, 2006 2:22 am

Jaster blinked. The instant Kernyel had entered his field of vision his eyes had snapped to attention on her and followed her trip around the edge of the lake. He realized that these were her belongings, and without moving a muscle, kept his pose. He followed her only with his eyes, and as she drew close he could tell that she had been through a rough night. She came right next to him, and didn't acknowledge that he was there. He waited, watching, for any sign of any thing, any thing that would give him an idea of what had happened to her. He dared not ask, for fear of startling her from her daze.

Suddenly, she seemed to notice he was there. Damn, he thought to himself, I must have blinked. She grabbed her belongings, threw her hood on, and took off for the town. It was almost as if she hadn't recognized him. She took off for the town, then froze at the door. He finally turned his head, and with no other movement, and no fear, anger, joy, or emotion in his voice, said to her, "It should not matter." As an afterthought, he smiled a little and said, "Milady." He watched her with intent abandon and waited for her to do something, anything. Run from him, run to him, answer him back; he cared not what she did, so long as she did not choose to freeze. He finally let his gaze fall from her, and looked down.

There, in the grass, shone glittering gold. A small ring, and he eyed it. He knew it was hers, but he had no understanding of it. A simple girl, he thought, would not wear such intricate jewelery. He picked it up in his fist and held it. At the very least, if she continued her flight from him, it would give him an excuse to go to her. He looked back up at her, and stood. He made no move towards her, but simply restated what he had said before.

"It should not matter."

She stared at him. Fear was thick in her consciousness and the aura that was now constant around her turned a dark shade of gray and all the brightness died away from it. She watched his mouth move, but whatever he said wouldn't register with her. She couldn't think right and something heavy was pulling at her, closing her down.

He finally stopped looking at her and she watched his hand move on the grass, picking up something. "Don't touch that!!!!!!!!" She screamed at him. Tears were coming down her face now, but she didn't know it. "You don't know what it is..what it does...where it's from!" She was yelling at him, but speaking to them both. She really didn't know what that ring was, or why it had been given to her. She was scared, but she didn't really know of what. And this guy that she'd only met once was just sitting there, like nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

The wind was picking up, and the sky was turning a dark, sickly color.

There were sobs coming from her mouth, unbidden. The fragile hold that her adrenaline had been maintaining on her was snapping off like strands of a spider web in the harsh wind. She couldn't stand there with him, glowing and crying and confused. She tossed him one contemptuous look as his last words really did make it through the haze of emotions and exhaustion in her mind. "What the hell do you know!?" She spat at him as she turned away and ran down the road to Tier, praying that he didn't follow her. The rain that was now pelting down on her back drove her on and turned the road to mud and the world to a dream behind walls of water, only becoming truly visible in the stark relief that flashes of lightning lent it.

When she finally made it to the 'Pike, it was already dark. She threw coins down on the counter and dashed upstairs to her room, throwing her things down and tearing her soaking dress off before she dropped into her bed. There was only one moment in the night when she woke up slightly. She snuggled under her coarse covers and shivered before dropping off again into a fitful and feverish sleep.

It was not until late morning that she really did wake up. She felt weak. Every muscle in her body was without ability. Just lifting her head off the pillow made her exhausted. She grimaced. She needed a bath; a warm one.... It was the thought of such a luxury, and that thought alone, that drove her aching and shaking body from its resting place. She prayed that this time of day, the bath house would be empty and she was blessedly correct.

She sank into the water with a sigh and was quickly asleep in the steam and perfume that filled the air. She woke only when she heard another woman preparing to enter herself. She didn't know how long she'd been there, but she was sure it was time to go.

Her stomach told her what her next priority would have to be. Looking down at her hands again, she shuddered and wrote a hasty note in the comfort of her room. Her food arrived promptly and she sat feasting on it for at least 45 minutes before pushing the tray away. She needed to be ready. Her body was not up to it, but she could fool it for a while.

She took out a potion and drank the entire contents of the vial. The effects were almost instantaneous. She felt rejuvenated and filled. It was then that she looked in the mirror and made a face at herself. She spent the better part of two hours getting it combed and entwined in a tight braid down her back. She doned her black dress and cloak and gathered all of her belongings. She needed to head to where the tablet of light was being held...wherever that was.... And some gloves, she added to herself. She would have to cover any signs of her odd skin color. She had no idea what it all meant yet. Still unhappily naive of herself. She didn't have time to think it out just yet, only a drive to leave the city and make her way to that tablet...to answers...

She was burdened by her bag and dark clothes when she left the inn and headed to the nearest garment store. She looked over the selection carefully before purchasing a dark, intricate pair of gloves. They were beautiful and she was never one to pass up beauty. Worked in thread of gold, tooled leather, and thick silk, they reached her elbow and fit wonderfully over her bejeweled hands.

Starring at her hands, she made a face at the absence of her pinky ring from her right hand. She remembered when she'd lost it. She shook her head, trying to dispel the thoughts of rain and clouds and red hair that had come unbidden to her.

She didn't like the new gifts that she wore on her hands. Sure, they were beautiful, but what was their purpose? Well, that one will just have to stay where it is; i'll be damned if i seek that man out, she vowed to herself as she exited the store and headed straight for the gates of Tier; to gods know where.

With ominous foreboding, she remembered just how long she would have before she would be forced to rest her body again. It was late afternoon as she reached the road...

((Wow...that was loooooong....))

((Sorry about lack of profile for Alhana. I'm just too freaking lazy to write it. Though pretty much everything you need to know is in the archives))

Alhanaeleroth, Dragon of... Well, something or another. She couldn't figure it out anymore. Laos had done something to her, that was cured by Toleranth. She sat perched on an outcropping of where the new inhabitants of Teir had decided to put Teir. The older one, the more beautiful and a helluva lot more protected then this one, was nothing more then a crater, destroyed by none other then herself. She had erased the memories of what happened, other then that she did it.

Arkayid was off near Domachi, probably right on the border, maybe in it. He was in good hands, and was probably being stupid about something or rather. She had hoped he wouldn't inherit his father's rashness and 'diplomacy' tactics. She had been very wrong about that one.

Poor kid's going to go screw something up in Domachi, and make a mess of things there, and then I'll have to drag my sorry tail over there, and try to fix things. Last time I was there... Well, what'd I do?

Teenagers. Why must we have that stage in our lifetimes?

Alhanaeleroth's eyes tracked a traveller apparently leaving Teir in a hurry. She had not been in town for a long while, maybe about ten years, so she didn't really know anything about it or what was going on. Travelers such as her were good sources of information, she had learned. Well, she had better go see her before she lost sight of Teir. With that, Alhanaeleroth opened the gold/black wings that were hers, took in two massive scoops of air and threw herself into the blue for a little bit of time. Having caught an updraft from the cliff, she was launched into the sky, where she closed in her wings to roll out of the thermal and dive towards the road and the traveler.

Well, having a Dragon diving at you was usually extremely frightening, so she had tried to keep her posture non-threatning as possible. That didn't work out too well either.

((I'm assuming you mean Kernyel?))

Kernyel barely had time to realize there was anything moving in the sky before the dragon was upon her. She gasped and stared, unable to do more than move her mouth without uttering a single sound.

She stepped back and grasped at her staff desperately. The wind was picking up drastically. She wanted to run, but was just unable to follow through. Her fragile mind was shutting down and shock was finally beginning to set in from the previous days. Her time was running out as the potion began to wear off and her control was getting weak.

As her self control faded, things around her began getting more and more hectic. The sun was fading behind clouds and the temperature was beginning to drop dramatically.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 21, 2006 6:48 pm

Alhanaeleroth landed and goggled at this human. What the hell was she doing? Well, one way to calm things down was to use her Elven form, which the dragon had decided to do originally as she had planned. Her wings seemed to fold in, and the dragon moved to take a step forward, and ceased to exist. In the dragon's place, appeared an elven woman of indeterminate age. She was well dressed with a mid-night black cloak, which covered her from neck line to her feet, which were booted with armor. Her sun-blond hair was in a pony-tail, which was tucked into the cloak itself. Alhana, as she called herself in this form, because it was easier for humans to pronounce, had sky-blue eyes, except under each eye, along the high-cheek bone was a streak of dried blood. One would get the sense of that it was her own on her face, and the eyes did not dance with joy as with other elves, but were subdued with sorrow.

"Calm down, traveler. I have no wish to harm you, take your valuables, or whatever else you may think. I only wish to learn a few things about Teir from you. If you wonder why... It is because I used to rule Teir, and I wish to know more about it. I have no aspiration to take the throne, I've already learned what that leads to."

Kernyel's mind was frazzled to say the least, but she calmed down just a bit; enough to let the wind die down and the sun come back out. "This..this is really, a very bad time..." she said haltingly. She began to sway on her feet just a bit. Her potion was almost gone and she needed to rest.

A look of pleading entered her eyes as she tried to stay standing up and awake. "Please, please ask someo--" she never did finish her statement. She promptly fell in a heap of cloak and bag in a dead sleep. If she had been awake, she'd have kicked herself for exposing her weakness at the moment to a complete stranger, but she wasn't awake. She was in a blissful rest (for a change) and a serene look was on her face instead of the troubled, feverish one that had taken up residence in the past few days.

No one can fool their body forever, and she had certainly been pushing herself far past the breaking point for at least 24 hours. It was time to pay the toll for such brutal treatment of herself and pay it she would. It would be another twenty-four hours before she'd wake up again. At least after that, she would be more fully restored, without need of any potions to function on a normal level. But gods only knew what someone could do in that time to make her rest permanent...

A girl needs time to understand all that has happened to her, but Kernyel hadn't taken that time. She still ran on instinct without really trying to understand what had taken place and why it had taken place to her... This too she would have to deal with when she woke up; one cannot continue to run unthinkingly into their fate and hope to keep their mind intact.

Alhana's eyes bugged nearly out of her face. She tried not to be fearsome dragon of death and destruction. Apparently that didn't work.

Oh well. She'll just have to wait intil the girl comes around. She had a cabin deep in the woods, pretty far from any sort of civilization, or what might be referred to as civilization. Sighing, Alhana picked up the girl, chanted a few words, and a sigil made of light appeared under them, and they disappeared.

Alhana was used to the oblivion of teleportation, and wasn't starlted by reality reappearing. She stood in front of the well camoflagued cabin, strode to the door, and fumbling with the girl, her pack, and the handle, managed to open it. Staggering inside... She was a lot heavier then she appeared, she laid her down on the well made bed, and removed her belongings at set them aside. Once done with that, she started to make a meal, wondering if she would come around again.

And if she didn't, then Alhana would have to see what she could do with her relatively weak healing magic. Light Dragon she may have been raised, but she was interested in the offensive capabilties of dark magic, and learned those rather then what a normal Light Dragon might learn about healing.

((If i may, i'd like to speed up time a bit for the sake of the story and because you're not on just now xd ))

It was fully night the next evening when Kernyel finally awoke with a bit of a fright. She looked around her strange surroundings and gathered the comforter around her in some instinctual attempt to hide from anyone.

It only took her a second to smell the savory aroma of dinner and right after that, her stomach let her know it had smelled that as well. She started when her eyes fell on the stunning woman in the room with her. Her eyes grew large with fright and a trickling of apprehension began to leak into her consciousness as she recalled how she'd met this being. Dragon... In all her travels, she'd never come across one of them, and she was thankful for that, but still curious.

It seemed that she was pretty much at full capacity and completely energized. "Ahem..." she cleared her throat akwardly and began to rise from the bed. She noticed her hair fall in a curtain of chocolate around her and stopped a bit at the sensation. She pretty much never left her hair undone.... With a longing look, she moved towards the smell of food slowly, unconscious of her skin for the first time, hoping not to agitate the woman who had obviously kept her safe in her time of recovery. That must count for something...she thought. At least she didn't kill me...yet...

It was as she was walking to the woman that an odd sensation struck her. A pulling from somewhere else. Not the same as her compulsion to seek the tablet. This was was actually physical. The hand that was missing the ring on her pinky tugged gently towards the South, towards Tier
((Sorry for taking liberties with the location of your cabin)). The ring. she realized, looking at her hand with a grimace. I suppose I'll have to find that man after all.... She actually growled softly in agitation. Her stomach happened to growl at the same time and she looked up quickly at the woman, hoping that her frustration hadn't been heard and if it had, that she wouldn't misinterpret (sp?) it...
