DONG SHU LEI IS SECURING THE DOOR

That was a nice hit Amy made, because of her height, it hit her forehead rather than chest or stomach. Shu kept her smile in pain, making sure she didn't drop her precious torch. "It's okay, don't worry" but she thought it'd better she kept a distance from the knight apprentice when she was concentrated on her work.

She didn't afraid to share the flame she had, everyone had some trauma about the Darkness in this medieval world. She had, and they had.

Nellie, the girl with a ponytail was given a piece of firm firewood and she lit it up with her torch. "Here you are." The cheerful girl said to Nellie. "Pass it to someone in need if you see the chance" She finished her words, and ran away without saying more.

She knew more people needed the lights, they were to see and to place their hopes on. The petite girl went to help secured the door, it was the main gate and most vulnerable point for attack.

She found a light piece of wood, but too happy that she swirled it around and slapped someone taller than her. Oops. "Oh my....I am sorry, are you okay?" Poor Koray.

-Damien has no Torch-

How could he have been so blind?

Damien was sure there was attackers at the wall, breathing down their necks and ready to taste blood, but nothing was there to provide proof to the sensation of anxiety, confusing him even more so. He was ready to give it not another thought, ready to take on the tiny warmongers when the sky bled black, shattered and took his reality with it. They were blind because the light was taken from them so very long ago, it was a foolish thing to forget. It was a shade of black closer to ink, the darkest onyx that threatened to suffocate along with its misshapen army- standing there waiting, knowing.

the chill was unable to be suppressed, the idea that they knew that the Great king was away and that it made them weaker because of it. Like an answer to his mental thought, the scream came, high and wailing and threatened to burst his eardrums did he find his way to the ground to gain protection from the sound, that abhorring shriek. The knight in Blue, Percival from what he could recall was already there, dragging the fallen back onto their feet and relaying orders and missions. "Get to the Ramparts and prepare the defenses.Move" it held weight and a sense of urgency that made his feet move without question.

Grabbing an old stick and a piece of cloth, he plunged its end in whatever barrel of liquid he could find before taking the flint to stone and scratching the sparks onto the soaked rag.

"Light, damn you!" he grumbled, stopping after the sparks landed with no results to sniff at the wet rag. The bucket was not of pungent lantern oil or heated pitch, but that of water. Castle defense without pitch nearby had Damien reeling, stumbling away from the worthless torch and heading deeper towards the barricade and to the light that others bore. "Torchbearer, I wish to lend my aid!"

[Rei enters]

!

"What in blazes was that!?" he yelped, rudely awakened from his sleep. He was just resting after returning from his quest, and his feet are still sore from walking back with the artifact.

-it needs new inner soles.

The surroundings are full of unrest. Apprentice knight, senior knights---even the seven Great Knights can be seen running back and forth. From one of the panicked castle maids he heard that they're being INVADED.

The problem right now is the unnatural darkness. Horseman bring with them the Taint- the darkness that corrupts everything. Even light sources like stars and the moon dimmed in their presence, while candles and torch will be extinguished immediately.

He rushes out from the barracks while pulling out the leftover rations from the quest- grabbing a nearby chair that has been stampeded out to bits, he wrapped a piece of tallow and some bits of rag, then struck his gauntlets together---

Fail. Since the gauntlets are enchanted with 'indestructibility' they will not produce sparks from broken off piece of iron.

There's no time for seeking a proper flint, so he ran outside and tapped another knight apprentice with working torch on the shoulder so he can share the fire.

-Rei failed in lighting the torch and now himself smells of tallow. SHAMEEEEE-

[ Maple entering - no torch for you ]

Maple was, naturally, just a little late for all the fun stuff and major heavy lifting. But after finding her weapon, she had at least made it to where the knights had wanted them to assemble and aid in the protection of the castle. At least she hoped so, because it was awfully dark where she ended up and very hard to see.

"Aa!"

Finding something to light would probably be the best first course of action, right? Feeling around, the young girl managed to find some reasonable items to carry and light but getting it to ignite didn't seem to be in her favor. (Maple couldn't help but get the feeling that this was a natural state of being for herself. Failure. No matter where she was).

Should she go ask someone to help her, she wondered. Or maybe... blindly try to help with the efforts? A few of the others had managed to get their torches to work, she could just stick close or something. Didn't seem to be a bad option (unless someone minded). Peeking over the edge of the rampart also didn't seem like an option she was going to take. Nope.

[ NA'IMA ENTERING - FAILED AT TORCH REALLY?????]

She slipped in through the chaos of everyone preparing for the siege, searching around for something that could be used to make a torch of her own. Ah! There was--and there went someone grabbing it for something else. Scowling, Na'ima continued on. Fine. ******** it. She would borrow light from someone else.

Looking around for the closest source of light, Na'ima hesitated a moment when she spotted Wrath in the distance. She considered it, though she wasn't sure why, going all the way across to where he was..but it was too far. She couldn't see what was between her and him, she could get hurt. Shaking her head, she instead turned to a man near her who was already in the process of lighting someone else's torch. "If you wouldn't mind?" She asked him with a smile, offering out her own unlit torch.

[ Nellie - Entering ]

An attack on the castle. The last stronghold that remained between mankind and those that seek to destroy it. Come what may beyond its walls, Nellie knew that they couldn't allow it to fall regardless of the price that they would have to pay in exchange for that. Tightening her grip on her longbow, she watched in horror the unnatural way in which the sky fissured and then shattered to reveal the thick miasma beyond.

The sky had always been eternally dark.

That had always been the case since her childhood days at the village that she grew up in. Was there a time when it was anything else but pitch-black darkness though? She found it strange that she had actually thought the sky to be blue, at times red and orange even.

"So long as we stay with each other, we'll pull through this somehow and everything will be alright again."

The voice rang true in her mind, instilling within her a sense of hope, warmth, comfort and, more importantly, love. That voice. It belonged to someone very very important to her. She frowned at her own inability to recall who it belonged to, cursing her own weakness as she put it aside for now in lieu of more pressing matters that she needed to attend to like creating a fire so that she wouldn't be left floundering about in the dark.

Quickly putting together a piece of rag wrapped atop a reasonable sized stick she had intended to use to craft a few arrows from, she struck the hastily put together contraption against the stony surface of the adjacent wall, thinking that that would do the trick in lighting it up. It didn't of course. She eventually gave up after a few tries and tried to locate someone who had a torch in the hope that he or she would be able to help her.

[Joy Enters - And is Torchless]

Joy had learned to expect the unexpected ever since she became an apprentice-knight. Their Great King was missing, they were tasked to retrieve artifacts, they were required to ride mounts, all sorts of things really. So when she returned to find Camelot was in a mad scramble of fortification and preparation, the brunette did not panic.

She did fumble, it was dark after all, but squinting in the dim light of a few torches, she managed to make out what the rest of the apprentice-knights were trying to do. While her attempt at starting a fire failed, she could try to help reinforce the door.

Joy approached the nearest visible torch-bearer, "Could I trouble you for some assistance in shedding some light?"

REI IS SECURING THE DOOR

OOC
Total Door Resistance: 130!

Since the person he asked for torch seemed busy at the time, Rei focused on the sounds the others around him made for navigating around the darkness. It's not that he's totally blind, anyway---there's already a lot of torches being lit, appearing as balls of flame moving around, providing limited illumination against the Taint.

Some people seems to be heaping things...literally at the door. He can assume they're making final preparations for dampening the siege by the forces outside.

Looking around (actually smacking around), he grabbed...a chair.
Haphazardly jumping, he restacked the jumble of items into better barricade while adding that chair on the top.

He readied himself and his scythe for whatever will be happening now.

[Ignatius Entering - mooching off a torch]

It had been a fairly normal afternoon jog for Ignatius until he heard the shaking, the scraping, like nails running across the smoothest surface. It was painful to listen to, and the knight-apprentice instinctively flinched.

That was, until he saw the Great Knight Percival, and he straightened up, listening to his every word--because that was what he was supposed to do. Them? Who were them? He didn't see anyone, really. It looked like ghosts were making the noises...

He looked up, seeing a crack in the beautiful blue. Ignatius gasped on reflex as it shattered, pieces of blue revealing something he truly already knew.

The sky was eternally dark.

Of course it was. How had he deluded himself so thoroughly to think there had ever been light? Was he just that hopeless inside? He was here to protect, not to pretend.

Protect from the noise, though?

Curiously, Ignatius peered down again, and nearly froze at what he saw. As far as the eye could see, twisted, blackened forms with curved and bladed weapons, sitting on horses and seemingly waiting for something. Horsemen. Riders. They were trying to ride on Camelot. This was the last protected place. He couldn't let that happen.

Percival's words rang true. He needed to help, but first, he needed to see. Haphazardly, he attempted to put together a torch, grabbing the nearest flammable things he could find. Then, he plucked some sticks off the ground. Maybe if he rubbed these together enough...

Clearly he was nervous, so it failed.

s**t. He needed to find someone with a lit torch... Aha! His eyes landed on a shorter female knight who appeared to have a functioning torch. That would work! Perhaps she would be willing to share with him so he could have a not-failing torch? He darted over to Shu, asking if he could have a light from her, and she granted it. "Thank you." Now he could see, at least. How had he even been able to see before...?

No point in dwelling on that with a siege afoot. What could he help with?

[ IMBERE ENTERING ]

As soon as Imbere arrived from her quest, the first thing she heard was the sound of nails being dragged across a brittle piece of metal, or— scraping...? She narrowed her eyes— were they deceiving her? Swiftly sliding off her horse in a rush, she patted Lyble's side and motioned away from the sounds before breaking into a sprint, confused at the view of serenity... Until suddenly a black line appeared on the sky. Her mail clinked as she slowed to a stop, eyes widening as she quickly placed a hand on her hat to hold it down.

      The sky was breaking.

Her breath was stuck in her chest as both eyes watched the cracks extend from the main one in the sky, feeling a mixture of shock and fear course through her veins. She almost forgot to breathe. When the sky finally shattered, the swirling void of clouds brought a feeling of tenseness to her body, hands beginning to tremble. Her hands grasped her head, squeezing down on it, remembering... Remembering something, something important.

The sky had always been black.

Suddenly, the light around her melted and the area became a pure black— s**t, she couldn't see anything! Watching the other soldiers around her she grabbed the first thing she could— which was apparently another person's arm. To some extent, Imbere was glad for the dark— it covered the warm flush that spread across her face. "Sorry!" She exclaimed, letting go of the arm and darting away, she bent down and grabbed the first thing she found— a piece of wood. Oh, great... As she fiddled with the rocks she found, a sudden screech frightened her, forcing her to drop the rocks. s**t. Desperately, she searched for a light— until she found one nearby. "Thanks!" She exclaimed, putting her wood on the others fire and breathing a sigh of relief when the flames burst from the tip. Quickly rushing away, Imbere set to work— there was a city they had to defend.

IGNATIUS IS SECURING THE DOOR

OOC
Total Door Resistance: 130 + 0 = 130

The ballistae seemed fairly well taken care of, so that left one important thing.

The door.

Maybe if they could block it up efficiently, they wouldn't be completely overrun by the horsemen and their riders, and it'd actually give them a chance. That seemed like a smart idea. Assisted by the light of his torch, Ignatius looked around for something he could use to stack on top of the growing pile in front of the door.

Thinking he spotted something useful, Ignatius reached out -- and grabbed a horse.

Wait.

The horse neighed quite angrily at him, bucking before running away into the fort. Ignatius couldn't exactly blame the horse for running away. It wasn't all that effective of a way to block the door, anyway.

Though he could have at least left his saddle...

[Ruth Enters - and fails the torch]

What in God's name was happening? Was it the apocalypse? But hadn't that already happened in the form of the Horsemen's attack? What was this then? The blonde woman had so many questions running through her mind that she was far, far, far too distracted to properly manage... well... anything.

All she could do was clasp her hands uselessly in front of her, at least it prevented her from wringing them in a display of despair. She didn't exactly feel despair but the situation seemed to call for it and that was what she was emoting.

Luckily, there was someone else around with a light. Skirting towards them, Ruth gestured for their assistance.
