Once Cyrus had made it to the desert, he traversed far enough in to not be bothered by other travelers, letting out a shout of anguish that he had been holding in. He hated himself for having ditched Apollo again, especially since this time it was for basically no reason. "Oh, but it was for a reason, darling~ You're so pathetic and cowardly. It's sort of endearing." Spirit chimed in, floating around the egyptian. The Mesprit was quite entertained by this fellow that had stolen him. While he had intended to toy with the lifeguard that had been his intended owner, it seemed Cyrus was more interesting. There were so many juicy emotions that the dark skinned male kept locked away.
Cyrus swatted at the legendary, but missed since Spirit was a lot more agile even in the dry heat of the desert. "Just get in your ******** ball and leave me alone." he snapped. Spirit only giggled, ruffling the male's cream hair. "Nope~ I think you really need this! Come on, give in to your feelings! Don't you want to be with this Apollo fellow? I think you two are adorable together~" the legendary chimed, circling the egyptian's head.
The thief was overwhelmed as the Mesprit touched his head, feeling tears running down his cheeks, only to dry up in the heat. "Sh-shut up! L-leave me the ******** alone!" he tried to shout, but sort of sobbed instead. He was a horrible friend. How could he even call himself a friend at this point? "Now now. This can be mended, you know. I have so many ex- i mean plots that can help you! You just need to be more receptive." Spirit tried to bring the other some comfort.

In a desert. Probably the worst place ever to be crying. This was the current state of Cyrus, leaning against a large rock that was sticking out of the sand. His tears had only caused sand to stick more adamantly to his face. The Egyptian was overwhelmed with guilt over how he had treated Apollo, and the damned Mesprit was sitting upon the rock, staring intently. Cyrus would have continued to sling vulgarities at the legendary if his throat hadn't gone so dry from sobbing.
The sand was really starting to get to him. "Come on now, Cyrus. Pull yourself together." Spirit chimed, sliding down the rock to pat his head. Cyrus stiffened at the legend's touch, grimacing. "In hindsight, this was probably a bad time and place for this..." the mesprit muttered quietly to himself. "F-fuuu- ack" Cy coughed, reaching for one of his pokeballs. As much as he hated flying, he needed to get himself out of the desert fast. Judal gave a screech as he was released, his feathers ruffling. He found the sand rather unpleasant as well, impatiently looking to Cyrus. "Castelia" the tanned male rasped to his braviary. The large eagle then took off with him in tow, flying back towards the city. Spirit followed along after, brushing off the sand.

☆ ☆【With their new riding equipment acquired and paid for, Phoenix was more than glad to finally leave the shop behind and get back on the road to really start off what would surely be a long day of training. Of course, as funny as Klaus’s remark about having the smell of leather stuck in his nose, she couldn’t help but sympathize a little with him. That was probably one of the few moments she was thankful for not having a particularly keen sense of smell, though Kraven was quick to slip in a little teasing jab. The wry smile on the Zoroark’s face gave way to a more good-humored grin, giving a casual shrug in return.”Mm, that may be so. It depends on the purpose and intent, but I can say with certainty the smell alone is a bit of an… ‘acquired taste’ if you catch my meaning,”he quipped back with a wink. Phoenix rolled her eyes a little at that, though she was inclined to agree with both his and Kraven’s accounts. Still, hopefully that wouldn’t have to be a repeat experience now that they were saddled up with some proper equipment for flying, pun totally unintended.
Brushing a few loose strands of hair out of her face and shaking her head to wake herself up a bit more, the trio made their way past Castelia’s outskirts and through the gate leading out towards the great yonder. Route 4 hardly held anything of particular note save for the bits of construction equipment haphazardly laid out in the surrounding sand, orange cones, long planks of wood, and in the near distance stood the skeletal foundations of buildings-to-be surrounded by ladders and scaffolding. Even the paved road was largely incomplete, stretching ahead for only about fifty feet before suddenly dropping off into sandy terrain below. They’d been doing construction out here for more or less forever now, though what exactly they were planning to do with the area overall was a mystery.”The sand does get pretty deep in some spots around here, so watch your step unless you really don’t mind getting it all in your shoes,”Klaus advised with a chuckle, stepping his way through on all fours so that it was easier for him to stay balanced. "Ugh... Definitely glad I wore boots today in that case." Holding her arms out a bit to follow the Zoroark's example, Phoenix carefully made her way across the sand behind him though stayed close to Kraven in case she might need any assistance. It was pretty easy to lose your footing if you happened to hit a particularly deep area, after all.
Once they were back on smooth asphalt under the overpass where the occasional roar and rattle of huge trucks passing through at high speeds could be heard, the walk to the Desert Resort from there was a quick one. Though to be fair, it wasn’t really a ‘resort’ as one would assume just from the name, it was really called that because it was a bit of a popular tourist area in spite of how harsh the environment was. Upon entering the gateway leading into the desert, the lady at the counter wasted no time handing them some ‘safety equipment’ consisting of safety goggles and cloth masks to help keep the sand out of their face.”Sandstorms are quite common in these parts, it’s better to stay safe just in case,”she’d said as Phoenix and Klaus quickly donned their gear, and just as well as the second they stepped out of the safety of the gate the sandstorm was literally the first thing that hit them. Pulling her jacket closer around her to keep out as much of the biting sand as possible even as the sun beat down on them from above, Phoenix looked towards Kraven as she gestured towards their surroundings. ”Did you want to get in some training out here first? Or should we head right for the Relic Castle?” The wild Pokemon in the Relic Castle would likely be much stronger if they wanted to try finding some good Ground-types for Nimbasa’s gym, but might not be the best place to start for training up some of their weaker teammates…
As the two trainers and Zoroark tread through the sand and ventured further in, the sand nearby stirred as the head of an odd green colored Trapinch poked out from a small sandy pile upon sensing the disturbance of the trio passing by. Beady little white eyes stared curiously after them, intrigued by the appearance of new people and eager at the prospect of maybe making some new friends. Digging itself out of its small burrow and shaking off the excess sand, the strange Trapinch clicked its huge jaws together excitedly and moved to follow after them as quickly as its stubby little legs would allow.】☆ ☆

Still, their shopping was done and their pokemon settled, so all that was left to do was take their leave of Castelia. It didn't take long for the asphalt to give way beneath their feet, the path only really maintained by the construction crew that grew more spread out as they slowly entered the desert. Kraven's steps were careful as she trailed behind Klaus and his trainer, but keeping up over the unsteady footing didn't prove too difficult for her.
Kraven didn't even realize that the road that faded away had simply been buried until they passed under another path, making her wonder just how long it took the sand to claim the rest. She still had it on her mind when they stopped at the threshold before the dunes proper. "No kidding..." The musician took a moment longer to get her goggles situated, finding some difficulty in getting them on comfortably without snagging some hairs or leaving the straps too lose. The mask posed no such troubles though, and with the new gear in tow she returned to Phee's side.
They didn't get many steps out of the gatehouse before the sands came down upon them, compounding the heat from on high radiating through the cloud. "Let's smack whatever's on the way, first," Kraven finally answered, making sure her mask was nice and secure. "I don't know how much stronger the pokemon in the Castle are, but we'll probably be able to train better with whatever's out here."
On that note, Kraven set her sights on the strange shape fluttering towards them in the sandstorm, walking ahead a little bit to take the first crack. She had just enough time to settle on giving Hazel a chance to shine when the Sigilyph came into full view, its own wingbeats at least helping to bat away some of the storm in front of them.

☆ ☆【Finally leaving the city outskirts and Castelia behind them as they ventured out onto Route 4, the paved road falling short only several feet outside of the city and giving way to the sandy path below. Barren, skeletal looking half-finished building sites dotted the areas outside of the main path, Phoenix eyeing them curiously as they carefully made their way along. Apparently construction had been going off and on for a couple years now, though she imagined the frequent sandstorms around this area tended to make things difficult for the crew to be able to work continuously on whatever project they had going on here. Maybe someday they’d actually be able to see what’d become of this area when it was completed… Thankfully the winds were fairly calm right now, so at the very least actually getting to the desert from here wouldn’t be as much of a hassle. Klaus took the lead without hesitation, with Phoenix lagging behind just a bit in case Kraven might need help, especially since the areas of deeper sand could prove troublesome for someone not quite used to the terrain here. Not that the musician really needed it as she was able to keep up well enough without losing her balance, much to the redhead’s relief, but she still hovered around fairly close just in case regardless.
Either way, it hardly took long for them to make their way to the gates separating the route from the desert area itself beyond, Phoenix thanking the receptionist as they were handed goggles and masks to protect their eyes, noses, and mouths against the harsh sandstorms beyond. She quickly slipped on the protective gear, keeping her long hair out of the way to be able to secure the straps of the goggles and mask on without getting them tangled up in the process while Kraven tried to get kitted out herself. The redhead gave a small smile behind the mask as she waited patiently for her friend to situate herself, the three of them proceeding onwards into the desert proper.
The first thing to hit them as soon as they exited the gatehouse was the sandstorm, the pushing winds and grating sand scraping against their clothes and blowing their hair back. In spite of the wind, it hardly did much to help combat the harshness of the heat as the sun beat down on them from above, Phoenix could already feel sweat starting to bead on her forehead as they pushed onwards. At the question of whether they should try to get in some training first out here or not, she nodded as Kraven said they could get some in along the way, reasoning that they didn’t know how much stronger the Pokemon might be in the Relic Castle. ”Right, sounds good to me,” Phoenix agreed, adjusting her mask a bit so it fit more comfortably, ”Just let me know if you start feeling a bit overheated, though. We probably shouldn’t stay out here for too long.” Reaching for her belt, the redhead released Hekate out of her ball for the time being. She didn’t have any Ground-types on her to train, and she had promised the Magikit that she’d get first crack at training when they had the next opportunity to.
”Ready to do a bit more training, Hekate?” she asked, looking down at the little witchy kitten, who thankfully seemed hardly bothered by the sandstorm raging around them due to her Magic Guard.”Heh, heck yeah! You owe me after cuttin’ me off last time!”she declared, wasting no time as she darted out a bit more of a ways towards the dunes, staying in sight of her trainer while keeping an eye out for any wild Pokemon around. Catching sight of Hazel as her fellow Magikit finished beating down a Sigilyph, Hekate flashed a grin towards the other as she dashed by. Unbeknownst to her, she accidentally stepped on a shimmering heart-shaped scale only lightly buried as she ran over the hot sands unbothered, smashing it to dulled gray pieces in the process. Stopping just a bit of a ways away from Phoenix and the others, Hekate’s bright eyes scanned the dunes beyond, wondering what kind of challenge the wild Pokemon here had to offer. Sudden movement from below the sand caught her eye, just as the tiny reptilian head of a Sandile popped out. Definitely not the most ideal kind of matchup for her like a Sigilyph would’ve been, but Hekate wasn’t about to back down just because she was at a disadvantage…
”Phew… I think after all this, showers are definitely in order once we get to Nimbasa,” Phoenix said with a wry chuckle as their Magikits got to work with training, wiping a bit of sweat from her brow before pulling some potions out to keep Hekate healed up.”Speak for yourself,”Klaus chipped in with an amused snort,”This is probably the worst place to be for someone with dark fur like mine.”A shower already sounded good right now, and they’d probably been here for all of about five minutes so far. The struggles of having black fur in the middle of a desert of all places… Focusing on the path ahead and hoping it wouldn’t take too long to get to the Relic Castle, Klaus stayed close behind the two trainers as they continued walking. Though a sudden tug at his hair as he stepped forward made the Zoroark pause for a moment in confusion, had it gotten caught in something? He felt another tug, as if something was actually pulling on it, and looked down behind him to see the culprit. Beady white eyes blinked back at him as he saw the tail end of his ponytail was caught between the jaws of a Trapinch, a very strange-looking one at that. It looked like it could be a shiny variant, though the little pink flower and leaves on the side of its head didn’t seem… well, normal for its species in particular.
Still, the Trapinch didn’t seem particularly aggressive even with its jaws clamped on his hair, the little Pokemon tilting its head curiously as it stared at him.”Well hello there, little one~ Where did you come from?”The Trapinch simply gave a happy little trill as it lightly pulled on the Zoroark’s hair again, the gesture more like a playful invitation than trying to tear it right off his head. Chuckling softly, Klaus reached out and attempted to pull his hair out of the Pokemon’s jaws, but the Trapinch kept its grip as it was pulled along and up until it was now being dangled above the ground as it held on tight to the Dark-type’s ponytail. It didn’t seem bothered by this, though, giving a couple more joyful chirps as it excitedly wiggled its little legs around.】☆ ☆

For the time being, Kraven could at least tolerate the heat, even if it was rather sweltering. "I know what you mean," she muttered, peering past her Volcarona to watch for more wild pokemon waiting in the sands. "Might have to learn to share if this gets any worse, too. Judging from the pokemon out here, we could probably get away with just hanging around the Castle entrance and fighting what's stuck outside. If nothing else, they'll probably be weaker if they're not able to get a spot in the shade." The further out the less clear everything seemed to get, making it difficult for the musician to tell if distant silhouettes were more buildings, or some fleeting trick of the light.
Fortunately, the wild pokemon in the area weren't nearly so elusive. By the time a pack of Darumaka, lead by a Darmanitan made an effort to sneak up, they were already pretty visible despite the veil of sand. Fire-types, unfortunately, but they'd do well enough for Kraven to finally train up her Meleeon a bit. She'd just have to be careful to heal him between each fight.

☆ ☆【In spite of the overwhelming heat beating down on them constantly alongside the rushing of sandy winds around them, Phoenix felt like she could at least handle it for the time being. Though hopefully by the time it really started getting to them, they’ll have found the entrance to the Relic Castle so they could easily duck inside to cool off and rehydrate. Thank Arceus they’d thought to actually grab extra water bottles before leaving… While Kraven took shelter from the whipping sandstorm behind Mothra, Hekate retreated a bit after beating down the Scraggy that dared to get in her way to walk alongside the two trainers. Bright blue eyes glowing a soft purple as she exercised her psychic powers to the best of her ability, she threw up a small barrier of energy around them to deflect the worst of the storm at the very least.
The redhead nodded in agreement at Kraven’s suggestion that they might need to share if this got any worse. Though from what she could see of the Pokemon around here, maybe they could get away with just parking themselves around the entrance to the Castle itself and battling against any wildlife that happened to be stuck outside. ”Yeah, that sounds like a good idea to me,” Phoenix agreed, squinting her eyes a bit to try to make out the distant shapes obscured by the sandstorm and the haze of the heat rising from the sands, ”That being said, actually finding the entrance to the Relic Castle might be a bit difficult. It’s hard to really make anything out beyond maybe ten feet in front of us.” Consciously she moved to stand a bit closer to Kraven, this was certainly not the kind of place one wanted to get lost in and she admittedly felt better having her friend close by in case the sandstorm did happen to pick up a bit more.
”Well we certainly won’t get anywhere fast wandering aimlessly either, but I think we do have someone who could help us~”Klaus spoke up, drawing Phoenix’s attention to him and to the unexpected addition that he now held in his arms. The odd looking Trapinch looked back, tilting its head curiously as it clacked its jaws together.”Hi hi! Iris saw new friends walk by! Wanted to see where friends were going!”the Trapinch, Iris apparently, chirped out in a very bubbly sounding female voice,”Friends going to big stony place under ground? Iris know where to find it! Has big round scary statues all around it!”Phoenix blinked as she listened to the Trapinch’s rather enthusiastic speech, though she offered a gentle smile and gently patted the top of Iris’s jaws while internally hoping that she wouldn’t try to bite. ”She says to look for a bunch of big round statues, if we can at least find those the castle entrance shouldn't be too far away,” she suggested, translating the message for Kraven. At the very least that would help to narrow down their search… especially since Phoenix herself was flying pretty much blind here with this being the first time she'd ever had a reason to come to the desert at all. In hindsight, maybe she should've let Jetta out to fly up ahead and try to get a bird's eye view of the area... though the sandstorm would likely make it difficult to really see much of anything even from up high.
However, seemingly not satisfied with just telling them the directions, Iris wriggled her way out of Klaus’s arms. Clacking her jaws eagerly, the strange green leafy Trapinch ran on ahead as fast as her little legs could carry her, turning to look back at the group as she jumped and pointed her body in the direction she remembered where the Castle’s entrance might be.”Come! Come! Iris will show friends big stone place!”she called out to them, moving to march forward and lead the way. However, she hardly made it far before she bumped into a Maractus that happened to be standing around in the path, the cactus Pokemon trilling agitatedly as it shook its body and made its telltale maraca-like rattling noise. The Trapinch hardly seemed bothered by it, though, as she clacked her jaws and lunged at her apparent new foe in retaliation.】☆ ☆

Though Mothra afforded her a modicum of defense from the raging sands, it wasn't exactly flawless. She could still barely see a few feet ahead of her, and making sure she didn't wander away from her would-be guide all the more difficult. Eventually she had to stop completely to make sure she remained next to Phoenix, lest the sharp whistle of the wind prevent her from hearing anything important. "Mhm. Be nice if we could at least spot it from a distance, but with all this sand we probably wouldn't even know how to get back to that building if we took a turn or two."
Before they could formulate a plan to reach their destination however, Klaus caught up to them with a solution in his hands... Or at least, what he was pitching as a solution. Kraven couldn't help but stare at the verdant Trapinch as she snapped her jaws and chirped excitedly, happy that her confused expression wasn't much visible beneath all the protection over her face. "That uh, that so huh?" She was happy Phee or Klaus were there to handle the translating, but a part of her still felt... Awkward, simply standing around when she knew someone was speaking, waiting for it to come to her in a language she could understand. "With all these chatty pokemon, I'm starting to wonder if this is how a tourist is supposed to feel when they don't speak the language of a place..."
That aside however, Iris' eagerness to get them to their destination was appreciated, even if it did require barreling through more wild pokemon. Didn't change their plans much, she supposed, but Kraven did feel a little bit better to have some direction to work with, as well as something of a path to follow as the Trapinch's body practically carved a small trench as she walked, something she could easily walk down without fear of losing sight of it. "Can't fault her for being excited, I suppose. Do Trapinch in this region usually accessorize with the flora though?"

☆ ☆【With Hekate helping to protect her from the brunt of the storm with her psychic shield, actually trying to figure out where the hell they were even going was a different matter entirely as the whirling sands obscured anything beyond at least five feet in front of them. She was thankful that Kraven did end up stopping so they wouldn’t accidentally lose complete sight of each other, nodding in agreement with her friend’s comment. ”Yeah… Probably for the best that we’ll be flying our way out of here when we head to Nimbasa,” she chipped in, reaching out to lightly hold onto her friend’s arm for extra security, ”We probably could wait to see if the storm lets up a bit while we take shelter in the Relic Castle if we can figure out where it is… But at the very least we won’t have to worry about being completely stranded out here if worse comes to worse.” That is, if they could even find the Relic Castle… At this rate they’d likely be wandering around aimlessly for a while before they might be able to find some kind of landmark to hint at where it was, which certainly wasn’t the most ideal situation to be stuck in in a desert of all places.
As Phoenix tried to think up a plan to help them actually get there, Klaus chose that moment to speak up and suggest a potential solution. Only then did she actually notice the new Pokemon he seemed to have picked up at some point, a strange looking floral Trapinch to be exact who seemed pretty eager to help out as she told them to look out for a bunch of round statue looking things to find where the Castle was. The redhead gave a sympathetic smile at Kraven’s slightly confused remark when she translated the Pokemon’s words for her friend to understand in spite of it being obscured by her mask, shrugging a bit at her friend’s comment on if this was how a tourist felt in a place where they didn’t speak the language with how many talkative Pokemon they were coming across. ”Maybe we could look into finding some sort of Pokemon translator device at some point whenever we go out shopping again,” she suggested lightly, ”It would definitely help out a lot with the whole… ‘language barrier’ issue.” All kinds of new technology were being made pretty much all the time, so surely devices for translating Pokemon speech existed out there somewhere, right?
That being said, however, Iris’s enthusiasm to help out was appreciated as the Trapinch wriggled out of Klaus’s arms to take the lead and show them the way to the Castle. She definitely knew the area better than anyone else, or so she claimed at least… Still, Phoenix decided to place her trust that the Ground-type knew where she was going in spite of the sandstorm raging around them, even though it seemed they would have to fight more wild Pokemon along the way. Not that that was an issue, since they’d pretty much been doing that anyways. And with the Trapinch carving a miniature trench through the sand as she charged on ahead, at least it wouldn’t be hard to follow after her without having to worry too much about losing her or the sand covering up her tracks too quickly. At least provided the storm didn’t start picking up so soon… ”Aha, yeah. She seems to know the area well enough, so there’s that at least,” she said with a chuckle, humming at her friend’s question regarding the Trapinch’s odd appearance as she narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. ”Um… Not that I know of. Then again Trapinch aren’t really even native to this area, I don’t think,” she shook her head, trying to rack her brain for an explanation, ”Could be that Iris might be a special kind of shiny variant, kinda like how Astrid is, you know? That seems to make the most sense to me…” Klaus shrugged, having simply been listening in for the time being as he focused mainly on staying close to the pair and following after their new companion.”Perhaps… Though now that I think about it, I remember hearing about these strange new ‘species’ of Pokemon that have been turning up lately,”he spoke up, tapping a claw against his face mask in contemplation,”They have very different appearances and even different typings from their regular counterparts, Delta Pokemon to be more specific as I recall… That being said I’ve never come across any myself, so don’t take my word for it. It could just be a ridiculous rumor that’s been circulating around for all we know.”
Up ahead, Iris continued to forge her way onwards, fighting off a Darmanitan and a Sandile with little difficulty even though she did take a bit of damage in the process, though that hardly deterred her. Occasionally she would pause and wait for a bit, making sure the two trainers and their Pokemon were still following and continuing on when she could see them through the sand. In spite of the harsh sandstorm all around them, the Trapinch felt completely confident that she knew exactly where she was going. She’d done several laps around this whole place plenty of times before, after all! Besides, she wanted to at least be helpful to her new friends since humans tended to have a tough time getting around here, what with the near constant storms and all. The Trapinch kept charging on ahead until she suddenly bumped into yet another thing blocking her path, this time something a lot more solid that was definitely NOT a Pokemon. Shaking off the bout of dizzied confusion from running right into the thing, Iris blinked up at it to see it was indeed one of the telltale ‘statues’ they’d been looking for. Well, they looked like statues but in truth they were actually Darmanitan stuck in a kind of ‘Zen Mode’, not that she necessarily knew that, of course. Trilling excitedly at this discovery, the Trapinch jumped eagerly as she clacked her jaws to signal the others.”Friends! Iris found statue! Big stony place close by!”she declared, already moving around the statue to find where the stairwell leading into the castle was from there.】☆ ☆

Between the raging storm, their own struggle for direction, and the growing heat that carried through the sands, Kraven couldn't exactly look a gift horse in the mouth; though it felt increasingly strange to be the only one on the opposite side of the language barrier. "It's worth looking into, at least. I hear there's been a few different experiments with that sort of thing, though I haven't heard of any that seem quite so adept at the translation as you seem to be." Perhaps it was simply Klaus' talkative species that was spoiling her, but the musician couldn't help but envy the redhead's ability to understand all of the pokemon they'd run into. "I hear some people often pick out a Psychic-type to provide the same, universal translator-ish effect too. Though I'm not sure I'd be too thrilled about having someone to rummage through my head."
Much as the two could muse over a technological solution and the... questionable alternatives, it seemed Phoenix's new addition had little interest in anything less than her method of aid, carving a path straight through the sand. Though the trio didn't exactly have any better plans, the two trainers seemed to resolve to trust the directions. "Really? I was under the impression that you could find them in most deserts." Granted, her knowledge was admittedly quite limited on the specifics, but Kraven still found herself nodding along at the suggestion that the floral digger might be an odd shiny. "True... Even if the flower's not actually a part of her, I'm pretty sure she's a different color than normal anyway. So she's definitely a more uncommon shiny, if nothing else."
Klaus however had a much more fanciful suspicion, taking the opportunity to inform the two trainers about an interesting little discovery of sorts. Kraven had heard the idea before--of pokemon who's types are irregular or have been actively changed--but any that weren't tied to an ability or outright a hoax was certainly new. "Is that something you'd be able to check through the Pokedex? I'm not actually sure if the information it updates with extends to the species itself rather than just what moves it knows." The young woman motioned to retrieve the device in question, but a particularly nasty gust dissuaded her for now. They could figure that out once they were at the castle, she supposed. "If they are a real thing I'm not sure how you'd tell otherwise outside of a fight. People collect some pretty wild shinies without any sort of type deviation."
A few pokemon sprang up while they traveled, blocking the way and being dispatched just as quickly as they sprang out from the sands. Though it wasn't long with their new guide that they finally stumbled onto something more concrete, the shadows in the distance coming into view when they finally arrived somewhere nearer to their destination. "I'm guessing we're close?" Kraven asked, though from Iris' excitement she figured that was exactly the case. Walking ahead a little bit, the musician found herself inspecting the "statues" some, running a hand over the blue fur, surprised to find it quite warm to the touch. Helped clarify that they were something alive... Probably. "I admit I was kind of picturing a shaded ruin carved into a stone wall or something, but there really does seem to be nothing but flat desert in all directions."

☆ ☆【As relieving as it was that the Trapinch was quite enthusiastic in her willingness to help, Phoenix could hardly blame Kraven for feeling a bit awkward in a conversation that she couldn’t fully understand. Admittedly the redhead herself sometimes forgot that most other people couldn’t exactly understand Pokemon language, and while there were a fair amount of Pokemon capable of speaking with humans it only really applied to certain species and particular types… Perhaps they should consider looking out for some options that could help her out with that language barrier, perhaps by some means of a personal translating device if they could find and get ahold of such a thing. Kraven seemed to agree, saying that it could be worth checking out at the very least. However, even though there’d been a number of different experiments done to create a reliable means of translating Pokemon speech, the musician admitted that she hadn’t heard of any devices that could translate as well as the redhead herself could. ”Aha, um…” Phoenix flushed a little at the minor compliment, adjusting one of the straps of her face mask, ”Well technology is constantly being improved, even if we can’t find anything capable of a perfect translation it should still be enough to bridge that gap by a good margin.”
She nodded at the suggestion of Psychic-types, since they were a pretty easy means of having a universal translator to help Pokemon and humans communicate with each other. However, that did come with the caveat of not being able to maintain any privacy with one’s thoughts from a Psychic’s telepathic capabilities… ”Can’t blame you there, not being able to keep my thoughts to myself around a mind reader is pretty unsettling in and of itself,” she agreed, grimacing a bit at the idea, ”Though that’s also why setting boundaries is important, yeah? With how intelligent they are, I’d think that most Psychic types can be reasoned with easily enough. Though your mileage on that might vary…” Klaus hummed softly from behind them, inclined to agree with that last statement. Granted, him being a Dark type made it especially difficult, if not nigh impossible, for most Psychic types to be able to read his thoughts unless he specifically permitted them to. But he’d met his own fair share of them before, and most of them came off to him as selfish, arrogant pricks who lorded their superior intellect and abilities over those they deemed beneath them. Still, he held his tongue, not wanting to inject his own heavily negative bias because of his less than stellar track record and potentially dissuade the trainers from the idea entirely.
Besides, they had other matters that demanded their attention for the time being, as Iris hardly wasted any time leading the charge through the desert, not even minding having to fight through some particularly rowdy wild Pokemon to get to the destination in question. While it might not exactly be the best idea, it was at least something… With any other options very limited and no one else in the party really knowing the area that well at all, they’d just have to trust that the Trapinch actually did know what she was doing. She seemed confident enough, at least, and her enthusiasm to help was definitely much appreciated as far as Phoenix was concerned. However, Iris’s rather odd appearance did beg a few questions… The redhead shrugged, tilting her head thoughtfully at Kraven’s comment that she believed Trapinch lived in most deserts. ”That’s fair enough, Pokemon do tend to travel and establish themselves in areas far outside of their native regions,” she said, ”Even so… She’s the only one we’ve come across so far, either she was brought here from somewhere else or maybe they’re a more uncommon species around these parts.” Iris’s odd coloration, on the other hand, was a different question entirely, though Phoenix was willing to just chalk it up to her just being a special shiny variant of her species like Astrid or Willow were. Still, she couldn’t help turning a curious ear to Klaus’s explanation regarding ‘Delta Pokemon’, particular Pokemon that had been altered to appear vastly different even down to their typings compared to their normal counterparts.
Of course, that was hardly a new concept as certain Pokemon did have moves and abilities that allowed them to alter their own or other Pokemon’s typing, but the idea of a Pokemon having a completely different type than normal without use of a move or ability was… unheard of. Klaus had said that he hadn’t exactly met any Delta Pokemon himself to confirm or deny if they actually existed, so whether or not it was a hoax or not was likely up to their own interpretation. Phoenix was a bit more skeptical of the idea than Kraven, though she decided to humor her dark-haired friend as she considered the musician’s statements and questions. ”Maybe? I mean, I’d imagine the Pokedex might be able to detect if a particular species has a vastly different typing than normal, though whether or not the tech might be advanced enough to be able to do that is another question,” she suggested with a shrug, ”The Dex might just read and record her as it would a normal Trapinch for all we know. Maybe it’d be easier to tell for sure in a battle, but… it doesn’t look like she knows any moves or attacks that would be considered unusual for her species to learn through natural means.” Tempting as it was to pull out her Pokedex to test that hypothesis, the constant heat in tandem with the harsh whipping winds and sand around them wasn’t the most ideal place…
Maybe once they got inside the castle, she could try to test out the Trapinch more in battle to get a better idea of if she really was different or if she just happened to be an unusual shiny. ”Though I have to ask, how do you know about any of that?” she asked, throwing a suspicious glance towards Klaus. One might think that such an interesting discovery would be fairly common knowledge among Pokemon trainers at the very least, but she’d never heard anything of it prior to now… The Zoroark was giving off the impression that he knew more than he was letting on, though he simply shrugged off her question.”I have my sources…”With that vague answer and a masked grin, Klaus mimed the motion of pulling a zipper across his clothed muzzle, not intending to say anything more on the subject.
Huffing, Phoenix decided to gloss over it for now in favor of directing her attention towards the path in the sand carved out for them by their little green guide. Wild Pokemon jumped out from the obscuring sands every so often, though they weren’t all that difficult to deal with as Iris and Kraven’s Pokemon were able to dispatch them with relative ease. They’d maybe walked about a good twenty or so more feet before Phoenix heard Iris’s calls towards them, just barely audible past the rushing winds as she announced her find. Sure enough, the silhouettes in the distance gradually became more defined as they got closer, a rather unusual landmark consisting of numerous blue statue-like figures scattered loosely about within a small area. ”Sounds like it, she did say it was somewhere around here.” Of course, the Trapinch’s apparent eagerness was telltale enough, though… from the looks of it there wasn’t much else to really see beyond these strange statues apart from more desert stretching out in all directions. Klaus tensed up when Kraven placed a hand on one of the statues, almost instinctively warning her to not go around carelessly touching things that could possibly be very alive and also very aggressive. However, he hesitated when the statue remained immobile, if the thing registered the touch at all it didn’t show any physical signs or movement to indicate otherwise… The Zoroark let himself relax somewhat at that, but remaining on guard on the off chance something might still try to attack them.
”Yeah… You’d think with the name ‘Relic Castle’ we’d see something a bit more… obviously castle-like out here,” Phoenix agreed with Kraven’s sentiments, admittedly somewhat disappointed at seeing nothing but sand-covered flats all around, ”Maybe we’re just not looking in the right place? Or is there something else we’re not seeing?” Iris had said that the ‘big stony place’ was close by here, so unless she actually did just get the directions mixed up then surely they were in the right place, right? The redhead didn’t want to jump right onto the possibility that they were just lost or that the Trapinch had led them astray, but where exactly were they supposed to go from here? A bit of a ways up ahead, Iris kept trekking on from where the trainers had stopped, though she noticed they still seemed pretty lost even though they actually were close to where they were trying to go. Maybe they just didn’t see where the castle was? Well, considering that it was actually underground… it seemed reasonable enough that it probably just wasn’t obvious enough. Clacking her jaws, Iris jumped up and down, pointing towards the directions of the big stone stairs leading deep below the sands.”Here, friends! Big stony place here! Down below!”she trilled, stomping her little legs and kicking up small clouds of dust to try and draw their attention to the stairs only a few feet away.
”Down below?” Phoenix muttered curiously, following Iris’s indications until she noticed the rather odd looking stone stairway descending down below the dunes, ”Oh. Huh… Well now that I think about it, I suppose it makes sense it’d be underground.” She peered down to try and get a glimpse of what lay beyond the stone stairs, though couldn’t see much else besides darkness going all the way down into the earth past the entrance. ”You wanna head on inside now? Or are you good to stick around up here for a little longer?” she asked, directing her attention towards Kraven to see how her companion was holding up. The harsh desert environment was admittedly starting to get to the redhead a bit, between the sweltering heat and the seemingly perpetual chaos of the sandstorm it was definitely a bit much to handle all at once. Still, if Kraven wanted to get in a bit more training before they went down into the castle to face off against possibly stronger Pokemon, Phoenix felt she’d at least be good enough to endure it a bit more.】☆ ☆
