He'd placed it in there so he could hand all his pokemon over to Nurse Joy, but it was probably better if he held it now. Placing the egg gently in his lap, he looked it over to make sure it was alright, sighing a bit once he was sure it was sound. "I guess I should... probably try and take a look at my pokemon's movesets now..." he commented, looking rather morosely at his pokedex. He had way more to do than he even thought...

Marx was pulled from anxiously scrolling through his pokedex by a foreboding presence looming before him, one so unnerving even he couldn't remain oblivious to it. He pulled his pokedex down with wide eyes, blinking at Litwick's glaring gaze. Wow... it looked... exceptionally beat up. And was it just him or did it keep flickering to a strange green color? "Um..."'Litwick has sustained serious injuries and is near fainting, Marx,' Felix informed him, 'You should go heal him and send another pokemon out. Basil and I can watch the egg while you do so.' Marx blinked, glancing, but then quickly scrambling up, gently setting the egg down, and recalling Litwick. "Okay, um... Amaura! C'mon out and train!" he decided, sending the ice pokemon out, while tucking Litwick's away. "I'll be right back."
And with that he darted off. Amaura blinked, staring with mouth agape after the trainer. "... Is he serious..." he muttered, but turned, at the ready, as a pokemon approached. Looking determined, he leaned down, then charged forward with a zen headbutt.

Amaura shook his head as the battle ended, stepping back and standing still a moment to regain his balance. He turned back as the sound of rapid footsteps reached them, as Marx came bounding back, releasing Litwick, who shook himself a bit. The fire pokemon saved a spare side glance towards Amaura. The ice pokemon met the stare, the two having a little face off while Marx got down to pull the egg back into his lap. As a pokemon suddenly appeared, the two pokemon turned towards it, but before Litwick could move, Amaura had already charged forth, apparently eager to continue battling. Litwick narrowed his eyes, flame flickering a bit, but then adjusted himself, sitting back, and apparently waiting his turn.

Amaura stumbled back, shaking his head with a grimace. He shot a glare at Litwick, who seemed to be snickering, and gave a bit of a smirk to the ice pokemon, before flickering to a light blue again, and staring curiously as another pokemon appeared. Pushing against the paralysis, Amaura turned, eyes flashing at the blob of a pokemon that appeared. He shifted, then launched forward, headbutting the pokemon, and panting a bit as it knocked it out. The paralysis certainly made moving harder... but it wasn't gonna stop him!

While Marx ran off, again, to quickly heal Amaura, Litwick managed to dispatch another opponent. It lingered in the grass while waiting for it's trainer to return. Marx reappeared after a bit, panting some from all the running, and releasing Amaura, getting back down and hunching over some as he hugged the egg into his lap again. "Okay, so... Now... I suppose I should probably... look at my pokemon's movesets..." he murmured. He frowned a bit, but pulled his bag around, pulling out a few books and eying them with apprehension. This was almost like... homework...

Just two minutes or so in, and Marx was wilting under the strain of trying to focus. Shaking his head, he straightened up, deciding to try and take a look at things one pokemon at a time. Mumbling and pouting over the work, he pulled out a notebook, struggling to take notes on what his pokemon knew, and what they could possibly learn, with Basil and Felix helping. He let Amaura and Litwick handle the battles, while he tried to look over Basil's moveset first. 'If you are going to enter Basil in contests, Marx, you will have to consider that, however, otherwise variety is a good goal to aim for in a pokemon's moveset,' Felix advised, while Marx frowned and strained over the task, 'Unless you prefer to specialize.' Marx gave a heavy sigh, ruffling up his hair and brushing some of it out of his eyes. He absently traced a finger over the slight scar under his hair, frowning a bit. "I... I guess I should probably teach him Leaf Blade? And... see if I can get some TMs... Maybe Brick Break? Or Drain Punch... but then again Breloom has fighting.... But... Well what about thunderpunch? But I don't even know how to teach him that! Or... maybe Dynamic Punch? Iron Tail? Uuuuuuaaaaggggh!" Groaning, Marx flopped back, arms splayed out to either side as he stared hopelessly up at the sky. Man, this was hard....

'You're thinking about this too much,' the kirlia stated flatly, and if he wasn't thinking it, then Basil's expression certainly added the unspoken 'Which is really saying something, given this is you/u].''Basil already has Giga Drain. Therefore, he does not need another draining move. Dynamic Punch does more damage; additionally, it guarantees confusion for the opponent. Even if it is not effective, it provides a tactical usage, and should still deal at least some damage. Furthermore, Thunder Punch could potentially add an additional status affliction, and is effective against flying types, something Basil would normally otherwise be weak against. I would recommend using those two moves, as well as Leaf Blade, for now, while keeping Giga Drain.'

Okay, one down. Marx sighed as he fidgeted with the pages. That had been a lot of work... Couldn't he take a break? A glance at Felix and Basil told him no, he couldn't. Sighing yet again, he bowed over the egg nestled in his lap and started pouring through the pages. "So, Litwick next, right?" he asked, trying tto find a good starting point in his books. 'Litwick seems quite proud of his moveset, but there would be no harm in looking into the options available,' Felix advised. Marx gave him an uncertain look, but conceded, nodding and comparing his pokedex to the information in his books. There were actually some pretty good choices... Maybe Psychic? Shadow Ball? Ohhh, and Fire Blast! Litwick did seem to really like burning stuff with that Will-O-Wisp...
Felix had been looking over the books as well, but turned to address Litwick, who was watching with narrowed eyes as Amaura took down yet another opponent. 'Litwick, would you be opposed to a more offensive, damage heavy moveset?' he inquired, and Marx looked up curiously. The ghost pokemon turned slightly, giving a very unamused, uninterested, and unimpressed stare back at them, before looking to the battle again. Marx blinked, frowning a little. Felix stared, then turned back to Marx. 'I would recommend starting with just a few adjustments,' he advised.

'It may benefit you to look into getting hold items for your pokemon,' Felix remarked, 'If Litwick is insistent on maintaining a slower tactical ploy, eviolite, for example, could assist him in lasting through the battle. Additionally, other items may help your other pokemon's attacks do more damage.' Marx blinked a bit, looking up from the books. "Gro..." Basil agreed rather dryly, tugging at his scarf some. Marx frowned. "You don't like your scarf....?" he asked. 'It's more that it provides no battle advantage,' Felix tactfully explained, and Basil quickly nodded in agreement. Marx scrunched his face up a bit, but nodded, adding that to his notes. "Okay... I'll try and do that, too...." he conceded.

Marx absently tapped his pen to his lips. Hmm, who should he do next... 'I would recommend Flygon and Breloom. You most likely will be unable to update everyone's movesets, but if you can, you should at least try and set up a goal for them,' Felix informed. Marx blinked, then suddenly beamed. "Can I take a break after that?!" he asked eagerly. Basil groaned a bit, and Felix glanced at him. '... You still need to help your pokemon train,' he reminded, and the brunette promptly deflated. "Oh, right...." Sighing again, he shifted, hugging the egg close and absently doodling a bit, before trying to focus in and work on Flygon's moveset.

Dragonbreath, Rock Slide, and... Earthquake... After some muttering and advice from Basil and Felix, that was what he decided on for Flygon. They would keep Fissure. He sighed and rubbed his head a bit as he looked up from all the work, watching his pokemon battle. At least they were -- hopefully -- getting stronger while he did all of this. He would probably need to do even more once he was done, though, even if he managed to update their movesets. Groaning, he started to fall back again, but Basil caught him and set him upright, Marx slouching with a pout before sighing, yet again, and getting back to work. Just one more... then maybe he could at least take a break so he could look into actually getting his pokemon these moves....

Breloom turned out to be a lot more difficult than some of the other pokemon, and part of it was just because there were so many tactical options. Ones he never would have seen if Felix and Basil weren't there. In fact, it was Basil who pointed out that Breloom's ability of Poison Heal could be combined with a Toxic Orb (Marx honestly had no idea that even existed) and Facade. So that was the first move that got written down. Ultimately they decided on Toxic and Venomshock, with Focus Blast to round things off. At the end of it, Marx actually felt a bit hopeful. His pokemon could actually do some damage if he got them these moves! Maybe they could even defeat the gym! Maybe they could even defeat the gym EARLY, so he wouldn't have to train as much! Then he could do ranger stuff! And check out contests -- Hoenn had those! -- and maybe message his friends and see what all of them were up to! He couldn't wait!

Beaming, Marx snapped his books shut, perking up as he took a deep breath. "Done!" he declared proudly. Basil rolled his eyes a bit. Shifting to put his books away and grab his notebook, Marx set the egg on the grass and stood. "Can you guys watch the egg and make sure Amaura and Litwick are alright while I go check out getting all the stuff for this?" he asked, waving the notebook back and forth while glancing between the two pokemon. Felix and Basil both nodded, and Marx grinned again, giving an appreciative nod of his own before turning and jogging back towards the city. At least he didn't have to worry too much about rushing all the way there and back this time....

Slowing as he neared the Mart, Marx decided to go ahead and release Breloom, considering he was going to be adjusting it's moveset, too, anyway. He'd let Flygon out later, but she'd been out... a lot lately, so he figured she could use the break. Plus he didn't really want to get crushed by one of her greetings again... "Loom!" the pokemon chimed, shaking his head as he was released, and then looking up at Marx. It quickly bowed its head, shadowing its face a bit with the brim of its mushroom top, eying him. Which Marx clearly didn't pick up on. "Hey Breloom! Wanna come shopping with me?" he offered, giving a grin. "Bre... loom...?" the pokemon replied, clearly confused. "Great! Let's go!" Which again Marx missed, but the pokemon followed its trainer as he headed into the large store, looking around suspiciously, eying the other trainers that were present. What was this place...
Marx happily hopped through the shop, looking around and browsing through some of what they had, before making his way to the counter. There was no way he could navigate this place! Even he knew that. He might as well ask for some help. As Breloom followed along, still skeptically eying his surroundings, Marx called the attention of the attendee, pulling out his notebook and quickly flipping to the right page. "Excuse me, do you have, um... Well, do you know what I need to teach pokemon these moves?" he asked, turning his book around and pointing to the list he'd written, "Oh, and, uh... Do you have a Toxic Orb? And any other hold items you think might be useful?" The cashier leaned over, looking at the list and nodding a bit. "I think we can help you with most of these. A lot are TMs, but you should be able to use heartscales to get the rest...." he remarked, tapping his chin thoughtfully, then flashing a smile, "You're lucky! We just got a lot of items in, otherwise we might not have some. Some are only obtainable through Gym Leaders, after all, but--" He gave a playful wink. "We get deals every now and then." He snapped his fingers and gestured, walking over. "Here, I'll show you where everything's at, and you can tell me more about your pokemon so we can discuss hold items."
Marx perked up, smiling optimistically as he withdrew his notebook and eagerly moved to follow. Breloom hung back a bit, eying the stranger. He would just... wait here... Surely Marx would return...
And indeed he did, after a little while. The pokemon perked up as he heard the two's voices, turning to look in their direction, waiting with hands clasped together. He gave a little jittery dance as they came into view, then ducked his head down, eying them as they approached. "-- Though if it's for your Breloom, honestly I suggest Fling instead of Toxic. Just wait until your pokemon has been afflicted with Poison, then have them fling it at the opponent. It'll badly poison them, and do a bit of damage. Not a lot, but some," the attendee was advising. Breloom quirked his head sharply to one side, looking at them, then shifted his weight back and forth, settling down, as if preparing to pounce. Instead, however, he crept over, slowly craning up to just barely peep over the counter top at the items his trainer had set down to buy. He wasn't really listening to what they were saying. He waited, glancing between them, then looking at the pile of discs. He inched a bit closer, craning his head up to try and get his chin over the counter, scrabbling a bit at the side and trying to use his head to lift himself up, as if he could pull his little hands to the top just by hooking his chin on the edge and pulling.
Before he could manage the feat (if it were possible) Marx apparently finished the exchange. He swept up the objects into his arm, thanking the cashier excitedly, and hurrying off. Breloom rushed to follow.

Sarx was grinning as he left, heading back towards where he'd left his pokemon, TMs, items, and heartscales all bundled up in his arms. "Man, Breloom, this is gonna be awesome! I got so much stuff! I dunno if I was able to get everything but... but still! Everyone is going to be so much stronger!" He was so excited, in fact, that he didn't notice Breloom pecking at one of the items in his arms, before finally losing it and snapping it up in his beak. He sort of chewed at it, the TM clicking in his beak as they walked, while Marx rambled on. Finally, though, the brunette seemed to remember something, and started shuffling the objects around. "Oh! By the way! Th... This is for you!" he declared, producing the toxic orb and awkwardly holding it out. He finally noticed the stolen TM and frowned. "Hey! ... Here, trade," he offered, urging the pokemon to take the orb. Breloom looked at it a moment, still chewing the Tm, but then reached out, using his little hands to take the orb, and spit the TM back into Marx's hand. And promptly trying to clamp his mouth over the large, poisonous objects. Marx stared a bit, but then shook his head, smiling, and continued back towards the other pokemon.
Amaura and Litwick seemed to be at a break in battles, so he quickly hurried over, taking a seat so he could sort through the items. "C'mere Litwick! I gotta give you some stuff!" he instructed, grabbing Litwick's TMs and looking at them. "Hmm..." It took him a little bit before he was able to figure out how they worked, not to mention the heartscales, but once he did, he was able to give Litwick his new moves, as well as the Eviolite he had got for him. The Litwick cooed happily, batting his eyelashes-- and then promptly turned around to stalk off. Amaura rolled his eyes at the flame's attitude. Marx just blinked, then shrugged, moving on.
Soon Basil and Breloom had their moves updated as well, and he released a half awake Flygon to quickly teach her her moveset as well. She promptly licked his face and moved to curl up (on) him, at which point, laughingly, he returned her, sighing happily as he picked up the egg. Man... so that was what progress felt like!
