He hadn’t actually been to this region since the Chingaling Fair, but a small smile curled over his lips as the memories came flooding back. The soft grin pervaded without his knowledge as he began his search, for once reminding himself of the softer moments without something else to sour his mood.

Everyone seemed scattered, though, with no real trend as to where people would go for eggs. Quietly wandering around the town, Zero scanned every which way as he went. He looked at the trees and the bushes, and the tufts of grass around the corners of buildings. He even checked the edge of the shores where the town connected to the sea, curious if they might’ve been slipped into the shallows or partially buried in the sands. He found nothing, of course, but he found it prudent to at least check.

Upon entering the city, Chayse noticed that in comparison to Violet, it was rather small. Not as small as New Bark Town, but still more of a town than a city. The first thing he saw was the bright red roof of the Pokemon Center and the iconic blue roof of the Trainer's market, both easily accessible from the main road. Chayse made his way toward the Center, smiling at Cyndaquil. "I know you're not that tired, but I wanna check it out anyway. You never know what you might learn in a place like that." That being said, he stepped through the automated sliding doors and into the cool, brightly lit Pokemon Center. It was bustling with rookie Trainers just like him, and Chayse felt an instant sense of comfort. He just couldn't shake it - the place felt like home. "Let's take a look around. Maybe someone can tell us a little about this place," he told Cyndaquil, whose nose was high in the air and taking in all the new scents of the surrounding Trainers and their Pokemon.

Most of the Trainers in the area were busy chatting with one another, showing off their prized Pokemon and the like - but one young lady caught Chayse's eye. She was off in the corner by herself, and looking rather troubled. Chayse frowned and reached a hand up to pet Cyndaquil's fur. "Wonder what's wrong?" he mused out loud, and walked over to greet her. He hated seeing anyone looking so sad.
"Um, hey," he said, putting his hands into his pockets nervously. "I just noticed you were over here by yourself, and you look like something's bothering you.. is there anything I can do to help?" The girl looked up, her eyes brightening a little when she saw the Cyndaquil perched on Chayse's shoulder. "Oh, you.. You're a Pokemon Trainer? Then, by any chance... Would you be willing to look after this egg I have? I came from the Daycare near Goldenrod, and I've been looking everywhere to find a suitable guardian for the little thing... But no one has agreed to take responsibility for it. I've just about given up hope.. But you look like a capable young man, don't you? What do you say?"
Chayse looked down at the peculiar looking storage container at the lady's feet. It was made of glass, and held a strange looking egg inside. "You mean.. That's a Pokemon egg? Do you know what will hatch from it?" The girl shook her head slowly. "Sorry, I don't know.. That's why no one has wanted to take it.. They don't want to get stuck with a Pokemon they don't care for.." Chayse frowned slightly. "Well, that's just silly.. All Pokemon are worth raising, I think. And you never know, it could be a really cool, or rare Pokemon, and they all might be seriously missing out! Sure, I'll take your egg.. and I promise to take really good care of it." Chayse smiled, and the girl looked positively overjoyed. "Y-you will?! Th-thank you! Thank you so much!"
She gingerly picked up the case and handed it to Chayse, who took it and grinned warmly. Cyndaquil moved over and sniffed it curiously. "It's gonna be our new buddy, Cyndaquil. I can't wait to see what it hatches into!" He gave the girl a kind smile. "You live near Goldenrod, you said? I'll be sure to drop by your Daycare after the egg has hatched, so you can see what kind of Pokemon it is!" The young woman nodded and smiled warmly. "I'd really like that.. Take care now! And thanks again!"
Chayse smiled and took off his backpack, tucking the egg case gently inside. "Well, this ought to be interesting," he said to Cyndaquil, lifting the pack back onto his shoulders and moving over toward the PC. He wondered if someone could tell him how to use the Pokemon Storage System..

As Chayse approached the PC beside the front desk, the Nurse noticed him and gave him a warm smile. "Well, hello! I've never seen your face around these parts - did you just become a Trainer?" Chayse smiled sheepishly and nodded. "Yeah.. Cyndaquil here is my only Pokemon so far." Cyndaquil crawled on top of his head and cried out a greeting to the nurse. She laughed softly. "Oh, isn't it cute! Well, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. That's what we're here for!" Chayse nodded and pointed to the PC."Um, yeah.. How exactly does the Storage System work? I've never used it before.."
The nurse looked over and pointed to a few buttons on the monitor's touch-screen. "Well, you just click here, and here.. you scan your Pokedex, and all of your options are laid out for you. Also, you may not have known it, but your Pokedex also doubles as a portable PC, so you can access your Pokemon in storage anytime!" Chayse blinked quickly, obviously surprised."Really? I mean.. That's cool! Um, where do the Pokemon go that are in storage?"
"Well, they are sent right over to the Professor who gave you your Pokedex! Professor Elm must have his hands full taking care of so many Pokemon~" The nurse grinned warmly, looking a little starry-eyed over the mention of Prof. Elm. "Err.. yeah, he must," Chayse said awkwardly, grinning a little. He flipped open his Pokedex, noticing a couple of buttons he'd never paid attention to before. "Oh, this must be it," he said, nodding. "And it looks like it'll transfer your Pokeballs for you. Huh! Pretty simple!" He grinned a little and nodded. "Thanks for your help. I'll visit again next time I need my Pokemon healed up."
Chayse waved as he left the center, stepping out into the warm daylight of the town and stretching his arms high above his head. Just then, he felt his stomach rumble, and he laughed as he rubbed it. "Man, I forgot I was planning on getting lunch. Let's see..."

Chayse wandered the floral roads of Cherrygrove, following his nose in search of something to eat. It didn't take long before he found a little food tent which was serving up local favorites such as Ditto dango, Chansey rice balls, and Tangela ramen with Exeggcute eggs on top. Chayse's mouth began to water. "Mmm... Cyndaquil, you hungry?" he said with a grin, before he took off at a run toward the delicious looking food.
"I'll take one of everything!" he told the cook, grinning widely. It wasn't long before he had the whole spread: Specialty ramen, pickled plum-stuffed rice balls, and a couple skewers of fresh, sweet dango. After paying, he sat down and admired his feast. "Cyndaquil, you want to try the dango? It looks delicious!" He peeled one sweet dumpling off a skewer and held it out to his friend, who sniffed it a few times and took a curious nibble. ~Cynnda!~ he cried happily with a little jump, before quickly devouring the rest of the dumpling. Chayse laughed and started in on his meal, relaxing in the shade of a Cherry tree. It really was a great day.

After lunch, Chayse decided to take Cyndaquil north of Cherrygrove toward Route 30. He'd heard that some Trainers gathered there to battle, and he was eager to test out Cyndaquil's moves against other trained Pokemon. "Ready for some training, buddy?" he asked, petting Cyndaquil's head affectionately. 'Maybe I should look around for some more wild Pokemon first,' he thought, his eyes scanning the area for any rustling patches of grass. He didn't want to overwhelm Cyndaquil right away with a really strong Trainer. After all, his Pokemon had barely even had one tiny taste of battle so far, and Chayse wanted to be confident of his ability before he took on that sort of challenge.

Chayse's eyes were drawn to a sudden rustling, and from out of the tall grass popped a Weedle inching its way across the road. Chayse smirked and placed Cyndaquil down on the ground. "Alright, buddy. Piece of cake. Let's do it!"

Chayse just grinned at the little fire mouse. "Good job, buddy," he said, petting the Pokemon's head. "Here, I have a treat for you." He reached into his backpack and pulled out a red and spiky Tamato berry. "I think you'll like it." Cyndaquil's mouth watered before he chomped down on the scrumptious berry, suddenly rubbing and nuzzlng himself all over Chayse's legs like he was his favorite person in the world. "Hey!" Chayse said, laughing and picking him up. "You're welcome!"

Chayse followed Route 30 all the way until it turned into the familiar sight of Route 31 by Violet City, his hometown. 'Maybe I can visit Mom and Dad,' he thought with a grin. He was sure they'd be excited to see his new Pokemon. "We're almost to the city where I grew up," he told Cyndaquil, who peeked up from his hood curiously. Chayse passed by the dark cave and headed right up to where the treeline became more urban, and Violet City was in his sights. [Exit to Violet City]

Upon landing in Cherrygrove, Avikna and Tay quickly dismounted. A small city by any sort of standard, Cherrygrove was again one of those places that were just commonly passed through. Sad as it were. Cherrygrove did offer some attractions of it's own, namely the trees that grew around the city that gave it it's namesake. However, the sights wasn't what they were met with, but rather a rather assertive young man."Hey, you! Girl with the black hair! Fight me!" He commanded, pointing a finger towards Tay as she hugged Mave's neck. "Uh...." She glanced over to Avikna, who offered a nod. "We've got time to kill." She stated. Johto was one step closer to Kanto, and frankly, the red-head was still leaning on delaying their trip to Kanto as much as she could. Battles and Gym battles welcome as it were. "Okay, I'll fight!" Tay replied, readying Garnet's ball.
That was until the man unleashed his first Pokemon. Both Avikna and Tay were taken off-guard by the Pokemon's appearance. Before them stood a stick thin beast, that appeared almost like a model. Avikna'd never seen anything like it before, and much like with Vivi, the dex was offering no help. Vivi itself released from it's ball, standing before Tay in a lowered stance, as if protecting her. "Woah! A Type:Null? Those things are starting to appear everywhere. Well, whatever it won't be a match for my Pheromosa!" "Tay be careful." Avikna spoke, ready on standby if the need arose. This was the last thing she'd thought they'd run into on their first day in Johto.
In the end, Tay won. Etoile appeared to finish off the Porygon. The male seemed disappointment, recalling his fallen Porygon-Z. "Tch... She's still to weak. What good is this Ultra Beast thing if it can't even fight right?" The male grumbled under his breath. Avikna stepped forward, wanting to ask the male some questions on what that thing was, but before she got far... Garnet began to glow. The Treecko that had only recently joined their party.... was evolving. Before long, the Grass-type starter was standing before them a Grovyle.

Avikna stated, motioning towards the building they were standing mere feet away from. Tay nodded her head, returning Garnet to her ball for the time being. "Vivi fought real well."
