Jimmys eyes shot open at the sound of a nearby voice. He was shocked, but only because he didn't realize he fell asleep. He looked to his right to see a trainer standing nearby, with a Charmander and Spearow picking at the last of Jimmys incense. "No worries" Jimmy said with a chuckle, placing the dazed Bulbasaur on its feet so he could stand.
"So I take it you Just started your journey?" Jimmy asked, flourished by memories of himself with Nala in the forest when he first started. He looked over at the two pokemon again, seeing they were both fairly young. "Props for catching a Spearow. I still havnt managed to find one that wouldn't flee" Jimmy said with a chuckle, taking a quick glance at the Chespin still sleeping by a tree nearby.

Darren grimaced as the sleeping boy jolted awake, preparing to apologize profusely for the disturbance and head off and away, but this trainer seemd very lax, insisting that it wasn't a problem. He must have heard Darren trying to coax his Spearow and Flynn away from the incense. "A-ah... Still, I'm very sorry. We didn't mean to wake you, I don't know what came over my pokemon, but they went right towards the source if that incense's smell and I just couldn't stop them. Is that some sort of pokemon attractor...? That's pretty nifty! I should probably look into getting one myself..." Darren said thoughtfully. An item like that would be extremely useful for filling out the pokedex.
When the other trainer asked Darren if he'd just started his journey, the brunette gave a sheepish smile and rubbed the back of his head. "That obvious huh...? H-heh... Yeah, I just started today actually..." He nodded, though he blinked in surprise as the boy complimented him for being able to catch a Spearow. "Oh! Well thank you! Really it's all thanks to Flynn over there, he's been pretty good about surprise attacks, he hits them before they even know what's coming, and I catch them afterwards. I'm just trying to fill up the pages of my pokedex, I'd really like to become a professor some day, so I figure if I help them out with their research, I'll be one step closer to that goal." Darren nodded. "You know, if you would really like this Spearow, I'd be happy to give it to you. I mean, if it's okay with Spearow of course." He looked down at the flying type, feeling it should have a say in the matter. The Spearow glanced at Jimmy curiously, fluttering it's wings a bit, interested but hesitant, and understandably so. Jimmy couldn't help but laugh at the similarities he had with this person when he started his journey. "Well it seems we have similar goals Darren. Im James Kuro, but you can call me Jimmy." He said with a smile.
"You got that exactly right, Its an Odd Incense. The Packaging is the same, so you never know which one you get, but theres 18 different ones that attract different kinds of pokemon, when the smell wears off, it attracts the curious ones like this little guy" He said referring to the charmander. Seeing a charmander really did make him feel warm inside.
"And you get two for two, I was out here using the incense to catch pokemon for my pokedex to help Professor Oak with his research." Jimmy admitted. "Just caught a ton of grass pokemon that like to hide around here. When the new trainers come, its like they sense it and usually run off. the bug types don't seem to care and they stay." He said.
He was offered the spearow, which caught him off guard. A trainer that Just started, offering a Pokémon he just caught just because a stranger couldn't find one. Odd for sure, but somehow jimmy felt nothing but good vibes from this trainer. It seemed he had the same fire inside him that made Jimmy choose charmander as well, Placing his hand on his head, jimmy began to refuse.
"I cant just take your pokemon, your journey just started." he exclaimed, but then he could see chespin waking up from the corner of his eye. "But I could help you out. The first gym in your journey is in Pewter City against the Rock type trainer Brock. " he began to explain. "Trust me, its a hard battle. I Could trade you this Chespin, and we both win. Spearow can meet the rest of my Pokémon, and Chespin can finally Find a good trainer"
Chespin, now fully awake, understood that they were talking about him, but every time jimmy looked at him, It would turn its head and pout. But while jimmy wasn't looking, the little pokemon tried to creep closer.

Darren smiled as Jimmy mentioned that they had similar goals. "You want to be a professor too?? Wow! Haha maybe it was fate that brought us together! What if we end up working together too?!" Darren seemed starry eyed at the thought of making another new friend, one that would potentially last a lifetime. Jimmy then explained the Odd Incense, and how true to it's name it was. "That's interesting! Where did you get it?? I could really use something like that for my pokedex. I'll buy a bunch and coax hidden pokemon out!" He seemed excited at the prospect, having no idea just how rare the item was. Darren had to chuckle though as Jimmy explained how when the incense wore off, it attracted curious pokemon like Flynn. "Heh, yeah, you might even say it's Super Effective...." Darren bit back a giggle at his horrible joke, fully expecting Jimmy to brick him or something.
However, he did want to try and offer Jimmy the Spearow he'd caught. Why not help a fellow pokemon enthusiast out? He'd been thinking of just releasing the Spearow otherwise anyways, not that he didn't want it, but Darren didn't want to force wild pokemon into his team either, so if Jimmy actually wanted it and the Spearow accepted, then it would probably have a better home with him as a trainer. However Jimmy had to refuse, seeing that Darren had just started his journey and needed pokemon to help him, so he couldn't just take a free pokemon from him, at least not without trading one in return. It was then that he offered the Chespin that started to wake up at the tree nearby, since the first gym leader was a rock type trainer and having a grass type would be helpful. "Oh wow.... A-are you sure?!" Darren asked, knowing that Chespin were fairly rare creatures. "I mean.... I'd love to but... Gosh..." It seemed like an unfair trade, but if Jimmy was willing, and the Chespin and Spearow were willing, then Darren supposed he couldn't complain.
Darren knelt down to greet the Chespin, since it had been inching closer when no one was looking, but seemed to pout when Jimmy looked it's way. Darren had to wonder briefly what the issue was between the two, but the Chespin seemed less pouty at Darren at least. "Heh, hey there little guy~ What do you think, would you like to come with me?" The Chespin crossed his arms and closed one eye, looking over Darren and seeming to think hard by the way it wrinkled it's nose. "Ches..." He frowned, but seemed to prefer Darren over Jimmy at the very least, giving a small nod. Spearow on the other hand seemed to have taken to Jimmy, fluttering closer to him and looking at Jimmy with interest. "Well I think it's settled then. Here," He handed Jimmy the Spearow's pokeball in exchange for Chespin's before turning his attention back to the grass type. "Mind if I name you Pascal?" Darren offered up as a nickname for the Chespin. Pascal adjusted his leafy hood and grinned confidently. "Ches-pin!" He seemed to like it, a good sign for a new beginning Darren supposed. Smiling at the little grass type, Darren turned his attention back to Jimmy. "Thank you so much! I'll take good care of him! Honest I will!" He nodded eagerly.

"Dont feel too bad, i have another chespin. This one i caught because my charizard went on a frenzy and attacked it. I was going to tend to its wounds and release it back to the wild, but it seems it rather go on a journey with you" jimmy reassured.
Jimmy then turned his attention to spearow after the trade. "Hey little guy, i promise youll have fun. "He said with a smile, seeing the bird pokemon flutter its wings in excitement before jimmy returned it to its pokeball.
"I wish you well on your journey, and a great time with chespin" jimmy said returning bulbasaur back to her pokeball. "Buts its high time i head out to celedon city. If you ever need to contact me, just ask the professor for my number.. I.. Kinda dont remember it." Jimmy laughed sheepishly.
With a final wave goodbye, jimmy left his newfound friend in the forest in hopes of one day having a good lab partner and a great friend. Jimmy would have had no problem traveling with the new face, but his match against Erika was soon. Maybe another region jimmy thought.

Darren grinned a goofy grin as Jimmy laughed at his awful joke, glad he could finally make someone laugh. No one ever laughed at his jokes, so this was great for him, and to top it all off, Jimmy seemed to like the idea of working with him in the future. Darren was so happy to hear those words, but ah... Well it was nothing but a dream right now, first Darren needed to make it happen! To do that, he needed to get new pokemon, which made him turn his attention back to the Chespin Jimmy had offered. Apparently he'd only caught it because his Charizard had gotten overzealous and attacked it, even though he already had one. "Really? Heh, I'd sort of had the same problem with Spearow and Flynn, though a Charizard attack is probably a lot worse...." Darren sheepishly scratched the back of his head.
Jimmy had to go unfortunately, seeming eager to head towards Cleadon, but Darren didn't have a problem with that. He was happy to talk to Jimmy and make the connection, and Darren made a mental note to himself, reminding him to get Jimmy's number from the professor at some point later on. "Alright! Thanks again Jimmy! Good luck on your journey!" Darren waved, seeing Jimmy off before turning his attention back to Pascal. Now that he had a better look, it seemed the Chespin was holding something in one of it's paws. "Say there, Pascal, what'cha got over there?" Flynn glanced up curiously, losing interest in the incense and glancing over to the new pokemon to see what Darren was talking about, and sure enough, Pascal was holding a little scale, one much like two of the ones Flynn had found before. How the heck was this one not crumbling away like the other two?!
Flynn waddled closer to Pascal. "Charmander Char!" He pointed to the heart scale, demanding to see it, but Pascal gave him a funny look and shook his head, inching away. No way was he letting his treasure out of his sight! Especially not by giving it to a bossy, demanding Charmander. Not after being attacked by one of their kin. Flynn growled at that and lunged for the Chespin, causing them to topple over, rolling and bouncing and struggling as Flynn tried to grab the heart scale and Pascal tried to keep it away. "Ches. PIN...!" Pascal growled, kicking Flynn off of him and hopping to his feet, huffing from the energy exertion, however in all of their tumbling the heart scale had crumbled away in Pascal's hand, granting him a new move but no more Heart Scale. "Flynn! What was that for?? Leave poor Pascal alone!" Darren scolded, however while Flynn was startled by Darren's scolding and ceased pestering Pascal momentarily, now Pascal was upset and tackled Flynn, and the two were at it again. Darren sighed, wondering if things were always going to be like this between them.

While Pascal and Flynn continued to roll across the forest floor kicking and scratching harmlessly at each other in frustration rather than an actual battle, Darren felt his Xtransceiver buzz again, this time from a notification from Mister DiCaprio. It read;
"Darren, I've convinced Void to allow a small grant; a pokemon and some items to help you on your journey. Everything should have been sent to to your PC by now, take a look."
Darren accessed his Pokedex and took a look, letting the gift materialize in his hands. Just as his father promised, Darren found that he'd been given a pokeball, a mushroom, and a smooth black stone. Another note came;
"I see you've received the gifts. Good luck.
P.S. Her name is Iris, and the mushroom is a snack for her, so please feed it to her.
Darren blinked. "Iris...?" The pokeball popped open, and out of it came a massive pokemon, who stared down at Darren icily. She was certainly not happy about her trainer reassignment. "Heh.... H-hey Iris...!" Darren held his hands up harmlessly. Iris ignored him and glanced to his bag expectantly. Perhaps the mushroom had been a bribe.... Darren reached into his back and pulled out the mushroom. "Right, they said you would be wanting thi--" Iris snatched the mushroom from his hand instantly, and backed away with a rustling hiss, quietly eating her snack.

Flynn was currently being pinned down by Pascal and struggling beneath the Chespin's slightly heavier weight, however from his new point of view on the ground, he caught a glimpse of the new pokemon amongst their ranks, who was currently giving Darren death glares that he didn't like. Pascal was about to bite down on Flynn's arm, but was interrupted with a forceful shove on his cheek, courtesy of Flynn, to make Pascal look in the same direction. "Char!" Flynn hissed, grabbing the Chespin's attention. Now he too noticed the Dragalge, and paused, glancing back to Flynn. There the two seemed to make a silent, momentary truce, and each stood, dusting themselves off before running over to Darren's aid, putting themselves between their trainer and the poison type. "Char!""Ches!" They took fighting stances, and Iris made a sort of scoffing noise.

Darren, oblivious to the tension, smiled at his two other pokemon. "Ah! Flynn, Pascal, this is Iris. She's going to be traveling with us." Darren made the introductions, but Flynn and Pascal still seemed apprehensive. "Hm..." Darren frowned, glancing up at Iris. He was unable to see the look of disgust on her face because really Dragalge always looked like their faces were wrinkled up and sinister. "I hope you liked your snack Iris~ We just ate so I'm glad you didn't miss out on getting a bite to eat." Darren smiled kindly, as Iris continued to glare him down. "We're looking for some pokemon Iris, would you like to help..?" Darren offered, still nothing. Frowning more and scratching his head, Darren wasn't sure what to think of the new pokemon. "You're a quiet one aren't you?" Darren chuckled. "That's okay though! You don't have to talk if you don't want to. Come on gang, lets go searching for some bugs~" Darren walked onwards, down the path, Iris staring at him for a moment before reluctantly following. Pascal and Flynn seemed unsure what to think of the dragon, but she was following along at least, even if she didn't seem happy about it. They relaxed, for now, and soon were following Darren closely as well.

Thought about his entourage of pokemon. Flynn would probably be the best pokemon to use while scouting bug pokemon out, since he had a type advantage, but he was getting a little too strong for his own good. Darren didn't want to murder the pokemon around here, he wanted to catch them and record their information on his pokedex. Speaking of which... Darren was reminded of the Nidoran he'd caught earlier and had yet to actually meet, so he pulled out the pokeball and sent her out. The Nidoran looked up at Darren somewhat expectantly and blinked. "Hey there!" Darren smiled at her and knelt down. "I'm Darren, it's nice to meet you~" Darren carefully reached out a hand, letting the Nidoran inspect and sniff. "Can I call you Ophelia? I think it's a pretty name for a pretty pokemon like you, don't you think?" Ophelia snuffed and sat back on her haunches, glancing over Darren again expressionlessly. "Would you mind training with me for a bit? I'm looking for some pokemon in this forest to catch." Ophelia cocked here head, twitching her nose and glancing around, seeming to start her search as Darren had asked. "Atta girl~" Darren smiled, standing to walk along side his pokemon, cradling Morpho close.

After a bit of searching, Darren and his rag-tag team of pokemon came upon a Metapod hanging from the treetops on a strand of silk. Darren already had Morpho, but at least this way Ophelia could get in some training. "Alright Ophelia, now's our chance...! Scratch it while it doesn't suspect us!" Darren commanded, and Ophelia quickly rushed forwards to cut the string the wild Metapod hung from and let it fall to the ground. The Metapod Hardened to brace for impact, but it hit the ground and Ophilia finished it off with another Scratch attack. "Nice job!" Darren praised with a smile, though a glint caught the corner of his eye. Darren approached and found that it was another Moonstone, which he happily placed in his bag for safekeeping.

Cyrus scratched the back of his head a bit, looking around. It didn't seem like there was really anything for him in this forest. Argo perched himself on his trainer's head, fussing a bit with his silk head band. Virus was still bouncing around on the ground, making strange little sounds from the internet to amuse himself. Rita was still rather frustrated with how she was being treated, but quietly stayed with the small group. "Perhaps we should get go- Ow! Hey!" Cyrus started to say, but was interrupted as a tree nut hit the back of his head. "How dare you leave me back there like that!" a familiar and sharp female voice rang in his head. The light haired male flinched a bit, looking back at the female Meowstic. He had ditched her before coming to Kanto and getting the two starters. "Perrrrrseeeeee~" Virus chimed, zipping over to her happily and circling her. "Thanks for the tip, Virus." she told the porygon2. "Hey, it's not my fault if you can't keep up. I'm not going to wait around for you." Cyrus said flippantly, earning a glare from the pokemon he was given by Team Imperium to assist him with jobs that he occasionally does for them. The meowstic put her paws on her hips, her judgemental gaze upon her trainer. "Oooooohhh she mad." Virus commented, spinning and just barely dodging a thrown rock from it's trainer. "Well, whatever. Welcome back." Cyrus eventually said, though he really wasn't exactly happy about the reunion. At least she'd keep Virus busy for a bit. "Hmph. Idiot. You're lucky I find my way back to you each time..." Perse growled, moving to stand by her trainer. She then eyed the squirtle, as if sizing her up. Rita leered back at her team mate, unsure of what to even say to her. She almost wanted to question the meowstic about her trainer and what his deal was, but figured she'd save that for later. "Huh... So he picked you. Unfortunate. I suggest you throw out all hopes of Cyrus being affectionate towards you." Persephone told Rita. Rita blinked at the the other's voice that rang in her head. It wasn't like she was even expecting such a thing from her trainer since the first few minutes of meeting him. The turtle merely gave a half nod before returning her attention to the surroundings. Perhaps while they were heading on their way out of the forest she'd be able to battle more pokemon and maybe even get tough enough to earn some kind of respect from her trainer.

Ophelia was feeling pretty good about her latest success in battle and enjoying Darren's praise. She was also somewhat glad Darren was careful enough not to touch her poisonous spines. Arceus knew how many unfortunate beginning trainers had made that mistake... "Hey Iris, do wanna give battling a try?" Darren offered to the Dragalge with a smile, though the harsh stare she gave him seemed to signal a definite 'No'. "Ah... Well alright, suit yourself. I guess you probably uh.... Don't need training anyways. Sorry I asked" Darren nervously scratched the back of his head and averted his gaze from the large and intimidating dragon pokemon.

Flynn seemed to perk up at the sound of offerings for training and rushed forwards eagerly to Darren's side, practically leaving Pascal in the dust, which the Chespin wasn't too happy about. Momentarily forgetting about Iris and the potential threat she posed to Darren, Pascal ran off after Flynn, shoving him aside in the attempt to reach the boy first. Flynn wasn't going to go down without a fight though, and easily shoved the Chespin back as he continued to vie for Darren's attention, and soon enough the two starters were at it again. "Woah woah hey you two, come on, save your fighting spirits for training!" Darren attempted to redirect them. Morpho seemed to wriggle nervously in Darren's arms at the sight of her teammates quarreling, and so Darren attempted to calm her down as well. Iris seemed to just grow more and more annoyed with the blithering idiots on her new team, it wasn't until Ophelia finally clocked the two starters upside their heads and chittered at them angrily that they finally stopped, grimacing and rubbing their heads.
