"I'm not a dummy," Ganyma snapped back at Kursha. "The point ain't to kill 'em, it's to stop the construction. There's trolls we know on both sides, for gog's sake,"

Ganyma rushed into the building. Fortunately, the royalists had evacuated from the well-shelled area before they'd arrived with explosives. No sooner had he constructed a new base than reports of the Beach Resort's capture came in.

"I'll show you how it's done. Don't need to kill nobody, just scare 'em off a bit," Ganyma suggested. "Let's go, Just Vigilance." It was not a suggestion.

Regardless of any protest, Ganyma made his way to the Beach Resort. Someone had built a fairly decent structure, but it would be no great feat to tear it down. Ganyma slipped on his mask and charged.

No defenders. No casualties.

Ganyma went to work. It reminded him of his struggles at the Luxury Docks. And the demolition of it thereafter. He was vaguely aware of which bases had which trolls, and who controlled each. At this point, it didn't seem like it mattered. It was all the same - build, destroy, send trolls endlessly to the field. This wasn't a game of power: it was a game of endurance.

It was yet to be seen whether the tealblood had the stuff or not, but he managed to collapse the base on his own. He radio'ed in. "Demolition complete. Constructing on the Beach Resort now."

It took longer than Kursha would have done it, but Ganyma was leery of the child's methods. He was younger than Ganyma - clearly he had no idea what he was doing. It was the first time that Ganyma had a thought like that.

Building was easy now, and Ganyma slogged through it. Unfortunately, radio signals came in with bad news: royalists were on the way. "Already?" Ganyma spat.

"Stryke, you've got to get defenders here now... It ain't gonna last."

He was putting trolls in danger and he didn't realise it, but could he really win?

DAILY REFRESH!

It's a new day! A push by the royalists, inspired by Captain Puchen, has caused a significant power shift. The undermined rebellion will not stand for this. A last push of desperation has spurred the rebellion to fight, and fight hard.

Today's Happenstance(s):

Phoenix Warcry applies to Rebel Troops today only and is based off of the mule's D6 roll:
1: Gain 1 additional action per troll, and 1 additional action per extra page.
2: Add 1D6 to all construction rolls
3: Add 1D6 to all demolition rolls
4: Add 1D6 to all recruiting rolls
5: Pick any coordinate on the map to unlock. This effect can be used once per page.
6: You can mobilize troops from one friendly coordinate to two coordinates (friendly or enemy) at once with one action.
(The effect that your team receives will be rolled in this post, and only affects the team that this thread belongs to. Royalists will not receive a buff; yesterday's warcry has worn off.)

Members of the Royalist and Rebel Teams can roll 1D6 once every hour in the Coastal Base or the Wooded Sanctuary thread to assist the wounded in the medical bay. The corresponding number will subtract from the number of wounded, and at 0 this effect will go away. If a 6 is rolled, you receive an extra action for use in your team thread. These posts must be accompanied by RP text.

Each troll is refreshed and ready to go with 2 available actions.

ALSO: Trolls rolling for the journeytroll intelligence effect are welcome to roll up to 20D6 so as to not spam their threads.

REMINDER: The last official day of the Territory Game will be on Sunday. Come Monday's refresh, the mechanics of the game will cease as the scores are tallied, the threads are reviewed, and we prepare for the final phase of the meta. You will still be welcome to RP in the team threads, but please plan your actions accordingly!

Refreshers:
POSSIBLE ACTIONS ARE:

Build: Roll 1D6 to build on a coordinate that you have unlocked – the roll result determines the durability of the base. You can also build on friendly bases to add durability, up to a maximum of 30 durability. You cannot build on a coordinate that already has an enemy base on it.
Trolls with training in Construction get a bonus to their roll:
Apprentice: Roll 2D6 Journeytroll: Roll 3D6 Master: Roll 4D6 Grandmaster: Roll 5D6

Rally: Roll 1D6 to organize defenders, which can be assigned to any coordinate you have unlocked. The roll result determines the amount of defenders you have rallied. Defenders will be on stand-by until you mobilize them. Defenders are the second level of defense that can be assigned to protect a base. You must use defenders to take out defenders if you want to demolish an enemy base!
Trolls with training in Recruiting get a bonus to their roll:
Apprentice: Roll 2D6 Journeytroll: Roll 3D6 Master: Roll 4D6 Grandmaster: Roll 5D6

Demolish:
Roll 1D6 to destroy a base on a coordinate that you have unlocked – the roll result determines the amount of damage done to the durability of the base. At 0 durability, the base is destroyed. You cannot demolish a base with defenders assigned to it.
Trolls with training in Demolition get a bonus to their roll:
Apprentice: Roll 2D6 Journeytroll: Roll 3D6 Master: Roll 4D6 Grandmaster: Roll 5D6

Intelligence: Roll a new coordinate (2D6). If you roll a coordinate you have already unlocked, the roll is wasted.
Trolls with training in Intelligence get a bonus to their rolls:
Apprentice: Roll 2 new coordinates (4D6)
Journeytroll: Roll 2 new coordinates (4D6); if at least 1 of the coordinates is not unique, re-roll. Each re-roll will increase in numbers by 2D6. So, if you don't find a coordinate on your first 2D6 roll, roll 2D6 again. If there are no unique numbers, roll 4D6. Then 6D6, etc. The FIRST unique coordinate unlocked will be considered the new coordinate. So: Bobbie rolled 4D6 and got 2,2, 5,5 and both sets of coordinates are unique. She ONLY unlocks [2,2].
Master: Journeytroll effect OR select one new coordinate from another team and unlock it. You must post with roleplay in your own thread and the other team’s thread for this to take effect.
Grandmaster: Journeytroll effect OR Master effect OR… Roll 1 coordinate (2D6). If your allies control the coordinate rolled: add 5 durability and 5 defenders to that coordinate (may surpass the maximum durability/defender limit by 5). If your opponents control the coordinate rolled: it loses 5 durability and 5 recruits (does not apply if the numbers would decrease past 0). You additionally unlock the coordinate.

Mobilize: Choose one of two options:
1. Send defenders from your stand-by or a friendly-base you control to any friendly-base on a coordinate that you have unlocked.
2. Assault an enemy-controlled coordinate that you have unlocked using defenders from a friendly base. Defenders must be deployed to a base before they can assault an enemy base and cannot attack directly from your standby.

POST IN THE WAR ROOM THREAD IF:

You build a new base on a coordinate
You reinforce a friendly base
You assign defenders to a base
You assault a base
You do damage to a base
You destroy a base
You use the Grandmaster Intelligence perk to affect a base

Stryke found himself waking to a distressing radio call, yet another base of theirs was under attack. Checking the latest intel reports for the areas they knew most about he muttered irritably under his breath. When would the war be over? He just wanted to go home..

Quick to grab for the device he fumbled with it listening closing hearing news of Beach Resort being destroyed. Feeling a sense of urgency he was quick to radio into the Rail Station.

"I Need 19 troops organized and deployed to the Beach Resort. Pronto." He ordered, sounding urgent afraid he might not be in time to prevent the bases falling. Pacing, he waited to see what would unravel, feeling uncharacteristically impatient.

Learning of his calculation error and not sending enough soilders to defend the Beach Resort Stryke realized they'd need to do something a little more drastic.

Going to find his Just Viliagnce members the yellowblood cleared his throat. "Hey guys, 12 defenders are moving onto the Mall right now, maybe we can turn it over and make the base ours again what do you two think?" he inquired, keeping at eye on the updates as they came in. "Theres several places we can go after, whatever we do we need to make a lasting impression." The child rocked on his feet, looking up from his data combing.

"We're going to need to build on the Mall. Get to it; thanks." Said Ganyma bluntly. He was sitting backwards in the rebel transport as he, Kursha and the rest of the squad made their way to their next target: The Aiguma theatre. They'd already destroyed the base once, so Ganyma figured it would be well guarded this time.

"Hey. Kursha," Ganyma began. "We're gonna take this one like we took the resort -- shouldn't have defenders. Just be careful, okay?"

He swung off of the repurposed scuttlebuggy as it came to a stop and finally saw the theatre. It was imposing, even though a percentage of it had been blown down. The royalist effort to re-establish it had been impressive.

He slid his mask on and took a short walk around the perimeter, only to stop suddenly. Trolls. Young trolls. Playing in the sand. And a set of familiar horns. It couldn't be.

Ganyma broke into a sprint back the way he came. "KURSHA! NO!"

Hearing the swift actions of fellow rebel units, Stryke had the 14 defenders from the other night marching off to reinforce the location. The reality of wars and consequences of his actions had yet to be truly realized. He was just trying to help his team right? Get rid of those trying to push them back and get things back in order. The yellow blood wasn't there to see fellow young trolls panicked and scared.

He focused instead on his talking to troops and giving out deployment orders. Such depressing thoughts would otherwise only serve to make the boy miserable.

The conflict was starting to get a bit frustrating. As soon as they built one base, the royalists destroyed another. The rebels may not have been losing ground but they certainly were not gaining any either. They had reached a stalemate.

Kursha was not much of a strategist but he had developed a plan to turn the tide of battle. Sort of. His idea was to simply crush as many enemy bases as quickly as possible, no matter what the cost. Perhaps the enemy could be intimidated into submission. Honestly he doubted it—the empire was too proud to be taken out by anything other than sheer force—but the plan played off his strengths and that was all that mattered.

“All right, you pathetic wigglers!” Kursha called, standing twenty feet or so from the front of the Aiguma Theatre. His voice was beginning to grow hoarse from the constant yelling. “If any of you imperialist scum are hiding out in there you better take cover, 'cause this place is going down~!” He twirled a stick of dynamite. Behind him, he caught a glimpse of Ganyma in his peripheral vision. This is what the tealblood wanted, right? For him to give the enemy a fair chance.

“Consider this you're only warning. I'll give you 'til the count of ten. One... two... three... four... five...” He struck a match and lit the end of the fuse. “Six-seven-eight-nine-ten!” He finished in a rush and pitched the explosive towards the building.

It was fair enough.

The world had pitched. Time fell in thick sweeps. Ganyma tried to believe that was just seeing things. He didn't know those trolls, he told himself. He was calm. He was behind his mask; he was anonymous. It didn't matter, and the cause outweighed the sacrifice.

But he couldn't stop himself from screaming. He'd confirmed the attack on the base. He'd been the leader. He was the leader. He was responsible.

Ganyma's blood pusher felt like it was going to explode. He stumbled and nearly fell. His mask obscured his vision. He pulled it up to his forehead. His radio was blasting.

"KURSHA! NO!"

It was far, far too late. Ganyma hoped to whatever deities there were out there that those three got out safe. A greenblood. A purpleblood. And.... Ganyma screamed. The immense bang set off behind him, but it did thankfully limited damage to the building. Maybe it would be fine. He stilled his pulse as much as he could.

"THERE ARE CHILDREN!"

As the front half of the theatre exploded, Ganyma's voice rang out in anguish. Kursha ignored him, crouching down behind a piece of rubble from a previous attack. He struck a match, and raised it to a second stick of dynamite. When Ganyma screamed again though he stopped. He pinched the tip of match, killing the flame, and tossed it to the ground. The dynamite he returned to his belt, unlit. He stood.

“Do you want to win?” he asked calmly, approaching the older troll. Behind him, the building had gone quiet aside from the crackle of flames. “I want to win. I want to win so completely that there is no doubt left when we're finished. I want to win because more than anything else, I don't want to lose. But you know what? You can't win unless you strike without mercy.” His eyes narrowed. He took a step towards Ganyma. Never mind that he was significantly smaller than the teenager; Kursha was without fear.

“Do you think the empire cares that they're fighting children? Do you think the queen does?” Kursha sneered. “Of course not. They know the price of winning. You on the other hand...” Kursha jabbed Ganyma in the chest. “You seem to think that you can win by... what? Showing compassion?!” He spat out the word. It tasted like rot on his tongue. “That's your weakness. You doubt yourself and your cause and so you show mercy to an enemy who wants nothing more than to see you wiped out of existence.” Kursha emphasised each point with another jab. “I'm surprised you made it even this long without getting culled. You're ******** pathetic.

“Now...”
He took a breath. “You can actually prove you're worth more than a sack of meat and help me raze this place to the ground or you can stay the hell out of my way. But I'm not waiting.” With that said, Kursha turned away and grabbed a cluster of dynamite from his belt. He did not light it. Instead he drew his arm back and then threw the dynamite as hard as he could. As it soared into the flames, he ducked down and squeezed his eyes shut.

After half of the Theatre was gone, Ganyma had not moved. He stood in front of the greenblood and stared. His countenance, normally expressive and easily read, showed nothing. It was as though his mask had slipped over his head permanently. As the Theatre burst into flames around him, every muscle in his body was tensed and still. Ganyma was not himself at the moment.

“You’re going to die and I will get a better young. Useless, weak, dependent wiggler. Stop your pathetic tears.”

Strochio loomed over Ganyma as he cried on the dirty floor of the hive, head sticky and vision spinning.

“Listen to me. You’re going to die weak. You command no respect. You stand for nothing. You’re a disgrace. Useless, harmless, wretched wiggler.”

There was never any consideration of life. There never had been. Valuing life, and the cares of others, came second to ambition. It was the Alternian way that he’d always thought that he had followed, and somewhere he strayed from the path. It had been in his way, and if he was like Kursha, he would relinquish his compassion in favor of success. Leadership.

But, Ganyma was as steadfast as he was imperceptive. There could be no middle ground, no complex introspection on the part of the hulking tealblood. Not now, in the middle of Old Hemisect. There was no way to balance control and victory with empathy. So while the mask was on, Ganyma was out. He had what he thought he wanted, and yet he was devastated by what he had become. The rebellion was no longer a cause of righteousness for Ganyma. It was a tangle of realities that he had no depth to grapple with, no handholds for him to grasp and begin to understand. He had no perspective of his own, and a will weak enough to follow orders and destroy lives. Too weak to take a stand for himself, and too thick to see through his own hypocrisy, Ganyma chose a single moral path and slipped on a mask. He was no longer accountable.

“I’m surprised you made it even this long without getting culled. You’re ******** pathetic.”

Strochio. Ganyma’s nostrils flared. Instinctually, he flinched to protect himself; a subconscious sensation of heat rose in his face.

“You can actually prove you're worth more than a sack of meat and help me raze this place to the ground or you can stay the hell out of my way…”

There was a mechanical click as Ganyma’s push blades ejected from his gloves.

Ganyma found himself reaching down and grasping the greenblood by the hair. He imagined the similar sensation. Kursha had more hair than he did as a kid; likely, this was due to lack of necessity. He wrenched him around and dragged him off of the ground by his shirt. His other fist rested against Kursha’s chest. The sharp blade pushed dangerously against Kursha’s skin. “You will listen to me.” He growled, voice distinct and booming above the sound of Kursha’s demolition. With his back to the flames, Ganyma was unrecognizable.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 24, 2014 4:04 am

The force of the explosion was so great that Kursha could feel the heat wave that rolled off. It struck him like a physical blow. Then he felt a very different kind of sensation, a painful tugging at his scalp. It happened too quickly for words. Kursha choked off a pained scream as Ganyma hauled him upright by the hair. He grabbed at the troll's wrists, trying frantically to pry apart his grip. His fingernails left tiny scores over his assailant's fingers.

Suddenly, he felt his feet leave the ground as Ganyma hoisted him into the air by his shirt collar. The tealblood was no longer pulling his hair but... there was a cool pressure against Kursha's skin. His eyes flitted downwards. A blade had appeared from within the tealblood's glove and was held to Kursha's chest. Unwilling to look at it for more than a instant, Kursha returned his gaze to Ganyma. That was almost worse. Against the bright angry backdrop of the burning theatre, Ganyma was a hulking silhouette with glittering eyes. Kursha quailed.

“I...I kind of have to, don't I?” he said weakly, throat constricted with fear. He attempted a grin. “I mean, when you've got me like this...” He tried for a laugh as well but it would not come. His throat was struck dry.

Kursha was terrified. He was so terrified he thought he was going to faint; he half wished he would faint. He had made a terrible miscalculation. This was not how things were supposed to go. The tealblood was supposed to bow down, submit, and wallow in the pathetic dredges of his existence. He was not supposed to rise up and retaliate. Not like... not like this.

Kursha forced himself to swallow. Where was the Colonel? She would come to his rescue, most definitely. She would dive down like a comet alight with fury and strike down his enemies, ripping them to pieces. She had his back in this. So where was she...?

Where was she?

An awful feeling settled in Kursha's bile sack. He could not remember the last time he had seen the Colonel. After a several nights of her self-imposed silence he had taken to ignoring her. He was not sure she had even travelled with him the last three missions, let alone accompanied him to the theatre. He was alone. Utterly and entirely alone.

Somehow that was more than Kursha could bear. “H-Hey, don't you think this is a bad idea?” he suddenly asked, voice desperate. “We're on the same side, aren't we? We shouldn't be fighting. Besides, we go way back! We have a history! I helped you get revenge on that jerk at the dance, remember?” he babbled. “And then later we hung out at the winter bloodfest. You seemed pretty mad then too, but it all turned out okay. So, really there's no need to fight, right? Friends don't fight and we're friends, right? I don't know. I haven't had many friends before! Oh! Maybe it's an apology you want! Is that it? I can apologise! I'm fully capable of apologising! I bet you've never seen me apologise before but I'll do it just for you! And I can promise that it'll never happen again. Never ever. So please... if I... just... just don't...”

Kursha broke down crying. He had felt the hot tears blossoming in the middle of his ramble but there was nothing he could do to stop them. They streamed down his half-smiling face with a mind of their own, their existence undeniable by the green tracks they left over his cheeks . That only made him cry harder. He cried because he was afraid and he cried because he was ashamed of himself. How pitiful was he to sacrifice his pride so quickly? To beg for the same mercy that he had just mocked moments before? If Ganyma was pathetic, then Kursha was something even worse, to submit and cower before such a person.

Kursha squeezed his eyes shut. He could not face his captor nor himself.

DAILY REFRESH!

It's a new day! This evening, everything is quiet in anticipation. The rebels gave a strong push, but the royalists are beginning to retake control. Tonight will be the deciding factor for the Battle of Old Hemisect.

Today's Happenstance:
Actions taken today will result in double points.

Each troll is refreshed and ready to go with 3 available actions.

REMINDER: Today is the last official day of the territory game.
