PARTICIPANT: ROUND 1“You may be focusing on the ladies NOW but I promise after I put on a bikini you won’t be seeing ANYTHING else…even if it is dedicated to ‘Puddin’ who knows EXACTLY who she is.” He grinned out at the crowd. Except the blindness, that’s pretty much dedicated to you.” He added. “Cause yeah…geek…bikini…not quite as bad as dual sunglasses but… good planning with that bro.” Question time then… Well, clearly they were trying to take away his geek-advantage by NOT asking him the super hero question, though if they thought they were getting a less Batman answer by asking about money they had another thing coming. “Well, seeing as I already Dorm down in the bat-cave, it could totally use some updated equipment so that I can properly found the League of Justice. SOOOooo at least part of the money would go there, other than that I know some people who like to chill so I’d probably make like a good eccentric and donate.” He gave thumbs up and waggled his eyebrows at the first, slightly odiferous judge. He did have to pause and blink at the phrasing of the next question. “Well I can not PERSONALLY CLAIM to be a magical girl, not even one of the starlights…and I really feel someone else should have been up here to give ADORABLE ANSWERS.” He called out into the crowd. “YES. My soul is a glittering batman Sigil” He waved enthusiastically at the video camera and then blinked with a small frown. “Man… I am not getting the really cool questions, I wanted to answer about being a princess… FINEEEEE…” He heaved a sigh and thought about the question he HAD been asked though. “…mmmm, Stream of Old Godzilla movies, popcorn and cola with a really comfy couch and someone else who enjoys them WITH me or even better, someone seeing them for the first time and appreciating how amazing camp can be” The last question made him tilt his head slowly to one side, to the point where for a moment his ear was very nearly on his shoulder. “I had an answer to the life one… mean.” He worked his jaw slowly back and forth and pondered this. “The cause or intention underlying a given action or situation.” And then shrugged. “NEXT” He yelled and turned to look for the next person answering questions.

Company, good company, semantics. He grew a little uncomfortable as Hanna took the seat next to him, but other than an idle shift in his seat he let it go. "I only have a few books, none of which I'd want anyone else to touch," Jack said, ignoring the disapproving look as he cast his gaze out towards the candidates. "But I suppose that's an admirable cause." Aside from Reading Rainbow, there was a cowboy who should have been on fire from how much homo he was exuding, some dude from that desert mission, Lex (maybe his hot but cold girlfriend would be over), basement chick, a smattering of other people he either didn't know or vaguely recognized, and his ex. Odd. Pageants weren't Lina's style, so it had to be the midget's meddling. Ah well. If there was a swimsuit portion, at least he'd get to look. Jack rolled his eyes at the first one, knowing that it basically set the bar very low on how well this was going to turn out. The questions themselves ranged from generic to completely off topic (anime? dates?), but really what did he expect would happen? An actual competition? Hanna pointed out one of the judges, and he squinted. "What, Ebony Darkness over there?" Jack snorted, a corner of his lips pulling up. "She has the right attitude, I'll give her that much."

Chel groaned and leaned back in her chair, bored as hell at the interviews.
"WHEN DO WE GET TO SEE THEM IN BIKINIS??" she yelled at the judges.
Chel had her priorities straight.
She then leaned over towards Finn and said, "Ey where's your eye candy boyfriend? Seems pretty weird he's not here. You sure he's playin' for the right team?"

PARTICIPANT: ROUND 1When her name was called, Mimsy stepped up onto the stage as she had been directed to. She wore a dress that fit the only idea of an interview that she knew, paired with black flats that were comfortable to stand in. Heels were avoided for the sake of her pride, but mostly her ankles. Quote: "On a scale of 1 to 10 how sexy do you think I am?" That was not the sort of question that she had expected, despite the fact that she probably should have. "Ah." She glanced towards Robert, who was waiting nearby in support, and sheepishly smiled. It had seemed so plausible to make it through this pageant without breaking any of the clearly defined rules, but this immediately complicated that. "Well," she began, pausing to clear her throat and compile a course of action. "I think that this is what is called a 'trick question', due to the fact that a tragically simplified one to ten scale does not nearly fit the quantifications of how...um...yes." After a short break to smile her most charming, crooked smile, she continued. "As a man who is equivalent to Mister Stark, a more refined scale which can only be answered by those who truly understand your excellence is what you should be using. If you do not already have such a scale, I am pleased to offer my assistance when we have more time to speak in depth!" Another smile hid the long sigh of relief through her teeth. That was an acceptable answer, wasn't it? She certainly hoped so, at least, and she couldn't help looking slightly anxious as her attention turned to Allan. Judging from the way that he threw all of his cards away and climbed up on the table, she suspected he probably didn't even notice. Quote: "What is your favourite anime!" He then proceeds to follow it up with "And anime character and song and mascot and special transformation power, etc etc" Before her arrival at Deus, Mimsy's consumption of any sort of media had been incredibly limited, and generally occurred only through other parties rather than by her direct choice. Popular culture was more important here than it was in the community that she'd known, so she tried to absorb as much information as she could - but she still wasn't sure that she had enough information to answer all of these questions. "I am afraid that I cannot possibly select a single one," she admitted, as it was technically true. "I am sure that you understand! The diversity of subject matter is very vast and expansive. And inspiring! I have seen how well it can guide someone through life; you set a good example of that." Quote: "If you were a Disney princess which one would you be and why?" Of all of the judges, speaking to Dwight in this setting felt a bit odd, as if the situation itself was somehow tickling her mind. She stifled an awkward little laugh with her hand, and stood up straight in an attempt to take this seriously. "You already know this." Her brows raised to give him an expectant sort of look. "But it is Alice, of course. I suppose that her classification as a princess is somewhat arguable, but there is simply no better choice." Knowing that Alice 'belonged' to Disney was a new discovery, but Alice herself had been with her for the majority of her life. When she spoke again, her tone was marginally more quiet, and she began to tap at her hip with her thumb. "I have wanted to be in Alice's position - which is as close as I could ever truly be to being her - since I was very young. I understand what it is like to be led by incessant curiosity, and have experienced the difficulties associated with existing in a place where everything is so different from what I know. I understand how frustrating it can be when it seems as if everyone is speaking a different language, but Alice and I differ in the sense that my curiosity is even stronger. I would not want to leave until I learned all that there was to learn about this place, especially if it was previously undocumented." She closed her eyes with a good-natured wince. "I apologize. I have too much to say in regards to this subject, so I will opt out of saying any more." After directing a little bow towards Dwight, she looked to Zoe. Any hint of her friendly smile was now completely gone, replaced with the deadpan expression that her most fantastically hateful acquaintance was so good at drawing out of her. "I assume that you do not mean the division." She tilted her head inquisitively, but didn't wait for an answer. "So! The formalist definition of life is defined as the quality that differentiates a functioning being from one that is non-functioning, characterized by the capacity to grow, reproduce, and react. It is classified into four biological families, but I would argue that there are at least five, considering the existence of FEAR-based organisms. It is not always that simple, however. In astrobiology especially, this is quite the question. There is a general consensus that living things must be complex and organized, and that they should be capable of consuming some sort of energy from their environment that sustains their capability of growth and reproduction. There is a constant debate within the scientific community regarding this classification, so I will simply answer: life is undefined." Not a very simple answer in actuality, but it could have been much worse if she had opted against it. She didn't smile or bow this time, and made her way off of the stage without another word to allow the next participant to take their turn. While she waited for the next portion, she sought out Robert among the spectators, and hooked her arm around his as she leaned against him. She had assumed that there might be some minor difficulties that would need to be delicately circumvented, but she hadn't really prepared herself for...well. This. "I apologize. I am willing to drop out of the competition, if you are no longer comfortable with this," she offered, blinking up at him as she waited for his response.

Grey Dragon Text to Oliver: No he wouldn't. He'd probably snark and b***h and moan about it, but he wouldn't outright kill Oliver, on that he was sure. Besides - Finn hadn't killed him yet, and he often made remarks just like that one.
Lex had taken his glasses though, and with his mission in this stupid pageant over, he was free to finally go and re-join the group...which seemed a little more than packed at the moment, but he didn't seem to mind. Crowds were easy to get lost in, and it was people-watching he enjoyed more than anything else. It didn't take him long to sense the tension in the air, but he had priorities to deal with first: He gave a belated wave - and some quietly uttered greetings - to Shiloh and Ian, before nodding to Chel.
"Soon, I hope." He said to her, naturally talking about the Bikinis - Abbi wasn't here, and there was no harm in looking, right...? Finally, he turned to look at Finn.
"Do you need a snickers?" A small snicker formed on his lips as he brought up a rather old joke.

Another girl had come up to their little group, and Bashshar felt like he should introduce himself, but she seemed so flustered over her apparent lack of glasses that he didn't want to disrupt her further. Well, they were on top of her head... but surely she knew that? He kind of just shrugged to himself, and let Lex handle the situation, since he seemed to jump right on the opportunity to fix her glasses and up her sexiness level.
The next round was going to start soon, and Kylee hadn't even filled out her form completely! At least Lex stepped in to fill out a porn star name for her, since Bashshar, while willing to rate Kylee, was not quite enthused over giving her a porno name. Except, looking at the sheet now... he probably should have.
God, that was terrible. He kind of felt bed for Kylee. "Uh... that's a... memorable name." Bashshar reached back out to Kylee, giving her a few awkward shoulder pats as if that would help see her through this trauma.

ROUND 1 PARTICIPANTCee headed over with Noemi when the first round was called and waited her turn to talk to the judges. She fiddled with her phone, checked her nails and whipped out a compact from who-knows-where to check her makeup multiple times. The woman sat and crossed her legs, daintily smiling at the judges (and pushing those boobies out) when it was her turn. Judge 1 - Mark "Out of the curiosity, what exactly would you do with your prize money?" With a deadpan expression, "Invest." There was a long pause before she burst out laughing, "IN MYSELF... I am so new here. I have plenty of things I need to make my stay comfortable." It was amazing how suddenly her speech, while retaining her natural accent, became actual english when she was in front of someone with authority. Judge 2 - Allan "What is your favourite pokemon!" "PIKACHU!" Because yes she knew what pokemon were but Pikachu was the only one she knew. Judge 3 - Dwight "What's your ideal date?" "Ohhh shh-shnap." She tried not to curse for the pageant. "Well probly you got to come to my house and pick me up. Treat me like a real lady, right? Maybe we go for drinks then some dinner. I love dancing so I'd really like ta see your moves out there." She winked at Dwight because she liked his clothes, "and maybe if you're lucky we can go back to your place for a nightcap." She smirked. Cee was pretty sure she was too intimidating for this goth chick. "Aight girl you do your thing." She waggled her fingers at all the judges before sauntering away.

ROUND 1 PARTICIPANTPeyton had returned America's hi-five after answering the Judge's questions, and resumed her almost stony-faced silence as she watched the other's and waited for her name to be called. Again, she was hit with an almost over-whelming dread that had her pulse hammering in her ears, and small palms sweating. It had been a long week, old high school insecurities were rearing their ugly head. < You're amazing, you'll do fine.> The Sun grimaced, nodding mutely before the sound of her own name being called startled her. Her eyes were a touch wide as she started walking, but by the time she faced the judges she had forcibly dragged that newly found confidence back around herself like a shield. The smile she flashed the four seating before her was radiant. "Out of the curiosity, what exactly would you do with your prize money?" This from Mark. There was a moments hesitation as she thought about it, having entered for funsies, with no real illusions that she might actually win. And then something came to her that had delicate features lighting up. "I would save it until next March, and use it to fund a trip to India for Holi, the festival of color." It was something she was planning on anyways, but with the possible extra money from the pageant more of her friends could come along too! Allan's question was easier. "What is your favorite Pokemon?""Skitty, though Pikachu is a close second." Her preference was mostly based on aesthetics, but hey. A favorite was a favorite. "If you were a Disney princess which one would you be and why?" Her attention turned to Dwight. This was probably her favorite question, and she grinned before answering. "Tinker Bell, if Tink counts as a princess." She did, right? "She's small, but feisty, and has a big personality. She's also pretty fearless, and doesn't hesitate to jump to the defense of people she cares about." Nailed it. Zoe's question-- "Define why?"--earned a twitch of pale brow, and she opened her mouth to repeat herself before closing it as a thoughtful, sly little smile slid into place. "Why. Adverb; for what reason or purpose. Exclamation; Expressing surprise, or adding emphasis to a response." Taym was a good, or maybe bad, influence on her. Smile a little smug, she strode away from the judges and returned to America's side. rejam* I know he's not here, but he would be so proud.

For the most part, Hanna agreed with Jack. She didn't love the idea of people touching her books, but the library in B-02 had much more to offer her than she had to share. She hoped by donating her own stuff, others might be inspired to do the same, which meant more things for her to read, which meant more happiness. It was basically the only hobby she currently had on the island. When Mimsy took the stage, Hanna propped her feet up on the chair in front of her. "I wonder if her talent will be skinning bodies," she said mildly. It still squicked her to think about it. The interview round was moving by pretty quickly, actually. "I'm amazed by some of the people that entered," she said. "Some of the shyest girls I have met on the island are going to go up there. That does not compute for me. I feel like it must be some dormant dream of being shy and unnoticed, until that one day that you step into the spotlight to be adored. Like getting discovered at a shopping mall." She waved one hand dismissively. "Disney Princess dreams." The princess path had belonged to Hanna's twin sisters; she preferred to model herself after Maleficent instead. Sort of. They were both versions of conformity, in a way. Hanna just didn't see her own choices that way. Some girls wore makeup; some girls got face tattoos. Both were trying to become something they desired, even if those desires were different. When Peyton took the stage, Hanna gave a little cheer for her, not too loud but definitely audible, because friendship. beejoux Hanna is cheering for you!

He had been more than a little bit mopey lately and after getting Inoke's text he'd almost backed out of the idea of leaving his dorm. Instead he pushed himself out of his chair, polished himself up and headed out. He then lingered in the back for a bit before nudging himself forward mentally to pick up the clip board and fill it out. He didn't think that he would win but five grand was five grand and with that kind of money maybe he'd be able to fund a small, fun get-away the next time he was on leave... Or finally get the right mini-figs for the D&D campaign he meant to run. It put a little bit more of a spring in his step, adding a slight smile in to the mix as well. Quote: NAME: Arland SEXINESS: 10 SMARTNESS: Realistically? 7. 10 if we're counting smartass. YOUR TALENT: Humorous banter. Sing-a-long. THINGS YOU LIKE: Staying up until sunrise after watching the sun set. Art. Music. Good food with good company. YOUR PORN STAR NAME: Penny Lane Somewhere along the line, Arland had mixed 'drag name' with 'porn name' but he had already set the clipboard down to step into line so it was a little bit late to take it back. He then ran his fingers back through his hair, pulling the strands back into a ponytail with the scrunchie that had been around his wrist.

PARTICIPANT: ROUND 1 He shuffled about in line as he waited for his turn to come, rocking slightly on his feet as if standing still were far too difficult a thing while nerves were running high. He laughed at some of the answers he heard, cheering on some of the other contestants after a moment as though he were amongst the peanut gallery in the audience instead up until the moment when someone nudged him up towards the stage. < I cannot believe you're going through with this...> " Now you pipe up." He rolled his eyes at the voice of his weapon, bringing his hand up to brush fingers along the talon pendant at his neck before putting on a grin. "On with the show." Quote: "On a scale of 1 to 10 how sexy do you think I am?" For a moment Arland was confused and any sort of 'cool' that he had composed himself into upon taking the stage disappeared into a slight frown accompanied by a furrowed brow. Was it the ponytail that he had pulled his hair into? Or maybe the pink scrunchie that he'd used? Maybe it was something else and Mark was just confused and thought he was a chick...? Or maybe he just wanted to see how good he was at giving advice to another guy. Ok. "Man, look, I think you're great and all in that... Hobo-chique kind of way, but sexy?" Yup. He was definitely going to lose. "Maybe if you lost the thing." He brought his hand up, using one finger to make a gesture at his upper lip. "The sunglasses, though? Totally trendy. 5, maybe?" Quote: "What is your favourite anime? ... And anime character and song and mascot and special transformation power, etc etc." He was incredibly relieved for a vaguely normal question from the next judge... Until it went on and on and... "One at a time, dude. One at a time." He laughed as he brought his hands up in an attempt to slow Allan down, shaking his head as he did so. "Favorite anime? Sailor Moon, hands down, followed pretty close by Bleach, though for completely different reasons. Favorite character? Renji, probably because of the tats," he tapped the side of his face and the tribal markings along it, "Song... Number One. Pretty damn inspiring s**t. Mascot? Kero. Cardcaptor Sakura, yeah? Transformation? Sailor Starlights because best disguise ever... Beyond that, though? Sailor Moon's crystal power make-up s**t. With the wings? Always thought that was pretty beautiful and inspiring....." That was when he realized that he was rambling just as badly as Allan had been. His face heated slightly and he shrugged sheepishly before glancing to the next judge. Quote: "If you were a Disney princess which one would you be and why?" Disney princess. Okay. He probably deserved that as a follow up question, but he wasn't going to let it get him down, not when he was on such a roll. "Are we talking actually confirmed Disney Princess or strong lead female character in a Disney movie Disney Princess?" When he didn't receive a definite answer he shook his head, moving on to answering the question. "Belle. A little bit awkward at times, but devoted and caring. I enjoy reading and I'm pretty sure I could tame a savage beast... If you know what I me---" His shoulders fell and he he seemed as though he might sulk for a moment but brushed it off by blowing a kiss in Zoe's direction before heading off the stage, leaving it to the next poor soul in line. He opened his mouth and then promptly snapped it shut again, Ian's face heating unexpectedly because why would Finn bring that up? It was obvious to him what the other was alluding to, but it had been a mistake, a terrible mistake to even come over here in the first place and think that Finn could be a decent human being.
Ian reminded himself, very forcefully, that Finn was his friend, even if he was a complete a*****e.
"Possessed by a demon who cut my throat," said Ian cheerfully, even as Shiloh pulled his hand away from his bandages again, and his heart leapt a little as his arms went around him from behind. He cleared his throat, gave Finn a pointed look, and then sighed a slightly hoarse breath.
Sometimes it was just too exhausting trying to keep up appearances with everyone.
"Sorry," he said, mostly apologizing to poor Oliver, still trapped beside Finn, and Ripley, whom Ian was starting to think of as Finn's keeper of sorts, the latter of which he had already determined kept his composure well and was good natured about everything. But it was also (sort of) an apology to Finn, and then one as well to Shiloh. "Bit off lately, as you can see," he finished lamely, gesturing at his neck just as the pageant started.Ol-j-man Text to Jack:Fine. I owe you. Just let me know when and where and I'll owe you a favor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gale turned as Stormy arrived and gave her a hesitant, slightly guilty smile, shifting his feet.
"I, erm..." he said, gesturing vaguely towards everyone around. "I thought you could...use a bit of a break, y'know, what with everything happening, so I, erm...it's just a bit of fun, y'know?" he added hastily, beginning to think this was a Very Very Bad Idea and that Stormy was going to stab him.
"So I, erm...I signed you up for this thing please don't kill me."

From where he was sitting he could see Harland onstage, and Alistaire gave a little sigh of muted amusement, shaking his head ever so slightly. It was a ridiculous competition, that was for certain; a frivolity that only Harland - and those of his nature - would enjoy, but there was something almost...endearing about Harland's enthusiasm.
Though Alistaire was trying very hard not to think about that. Or anything, really.
The first two questions were simple - and strange - enough, Alistaire letting out a soft snort. The third question, however, made his face flush, and he knew without even having to look at Harland what his answer would be. Alistaire opened his mouth and then shut it again, pressing his lips together as his stomach twisted with a mixture of nervousness and something else he wasn't about to name anytime soon. His eyes met Harland's briefly, and though he gave no wave or anything of the sort, the corners of Alistaire's lips quirked upwards, just the tiniest amount before settling back into his usual flat stare.
His phone buzzed as Harland left the stage.face your demons Text to Harland Leander Belle:You are ridiculous. Quote: Text to Harland Leander Belle:Your answers were not. Quote: Text to Harland Leander Belle:For the record, I did enjoy the date.

Another buzz from his jacket pocket alerted Oliver to Ripley's reply. And although it made little sense when taken out of context, the message he typed out seemed like the most logical response to the young boy. Enoh Love Text to Ripley: I don't want to be thrown into the ocean! The glance Oliver sent Finn's way was suspiciously nervous, but the rough hunter was entirely preoccupied by his conversation with Ian. There was a lot that wasn't being said there, the little Life trainee could feel the tenseness between them. But he decided, wisely, to not say a thing about it. He nodded towards Shiloh. "Y-yeah, he's really nice sometimes," he said with a smile, and there was no trace of sarcasm in his voice. He truly believed this to be the case. Finn could be rude, and aggressive, but he could also bring cookies to someone who had missed dinner. "Um, d-don't worry about it," Oliver replied quickly. Ian's voice sounded strained, with the roughness of his sigh and the clearing his throat. "Ian, d-did you need some water?" Or jello? The second question was left unsaid, but Oliver was already wondering if there was any of the green jello left in the infirmary.

He . . . what? Despite the loudspeaker and the interviews and the clear show of confidence and charisma going on, it still took Stormy a little bit to understand exactly what "a thing" meant. Pageant. Interviews and showing off and being talented and judging and an audience to it all.
She blinked several times, giving Gale a blank look as she processed her new situation. No time to be mopey, essentially. No spar, either, just a battle of a different kind. It was a little funny that he thought her immediate reaction would be one of violence, even though she had never given that impression before. Her fight or flight response had always leaned towards the latter, if not towards freeze.
"Oh," was all she said. "Okay." There was no visible sign of distress or delight, or of any particular preference about Gale's reasoning for doing it. All there was on Stormy's face now was rising nervousness, her cheeks coloring. "I guess, um . . . You should go to the stands and watch . . ." A part of her certainly wanted to run, but the fear of disappointing him was stronger.
As she started to try and work up her nerves in preparation for her turn, Stormy tried to glance around at the other contestants to get a reading on how they were doing. One of them was somewhat familiar--well not in the formal manner, more like his face fit the photo provided in his file--and she tried to get his attention in order to give a nervous smile and a thumbs up. Wyatt wouldn't know her quite yet, but she was one nosy little Mist and decided that she needed to start showing her face so it wouldn't be super awkward later, hopefully getting some rapport groundwork. Same division and all.
"Nice one!"
-----
Skinning bodies? Skinning in general was pretty useful, so . . .
"Shyness is a lie. Coyness, sure, but there's not a soul out there that doesn't like at least a little attention, one way or another. Protesting just gets some even more," Jack added more disdainfully. "This whole competition is a giant excuse for the arrogant and the charlatans, and I still can't believe I'm watching this."
Steepling his fingers before his mouth as if in thought, Jack watched some more contestants step up. Throughout Peyton's in particular he made sure his mouth was hidden, as it kept twitching with amusement--most especially at the Tinker Bell image. All he could think of was how they were both very small, both very petty, and both very easy to squash. It was the dictionary spew that made him roll his eyes at last as Hanna cheered. "What, having second thoughts about not signing up?" he asked her. "I'm sure they're taking late applications if so."
Again Jack's eyes scanned back, half out of habit (always to know who was there, who was leaving, who was with whom, always updating himself on his surroundings) and half out of curiosity. On the wind he thought he heard--ah boy. Chel. Oliver was there as well . . . It sparked an idea.
"You drink coffee, Nowicki? How do you take it if so?" Jack was taking his phone back out and flipping through contacts. "Or tea, if you'd rather. Or water, hell, whatever non-alcoholic thing."
