3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave!

Luckily this cave wasn't out to murder him, and back pressed against the wall, he waited and stayed still as the creature patrolled outside. It was too large to get in this cave, but that didn't mean it couldn't reach in somehow. He didn't take the murdering abilities of anything here for granted.

After the shadows moved, he settled in the cave a moment. All this dodging was making him jumpy and his heart racing every minute he stepped out into open water. Maybe that's why he hadn't seen so many mermaids around aside from those patrolling.

Inside the cave, he checked for stones, and was pleased to find more. Pocketing them, he left the cave - but only after the coast was clear.

Step Two

Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)

Roll 1d8
1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave!
2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does!
3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave!
4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do!
5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave!
6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave!
7: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. Hundreds to thin, snake-like tendrils shoot out from the darkness. Roll 1d12 to see how much damage they do!
8: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does!

Adjusting to 3

The next cave was filled with a school of small fish, though they more or less floated inside - which was strange. They didn't move when he came, and more or less just floated like debris around him. They were alive, yes, but didn't start or move.

He didn't like the feeling of this cave, and decided to just check it and go. something about strange fish seemed - well, fishy.

He found a decent amount of stones among the weird fish (and a few floating dead ones) before he packed up his bag and left. It might be good to leave, he thought. It was proving to be a weird and dangerous day.

He moved along the walls and found that most of the caves went lower or went up. He paused right before the strange split to the smallest cave he saw at the end, and moved up to it. He was too tall to go inside, and instead he looked inside to make sure there wasn't anything in there. It was still a cave, but not one for him.

Maybe there was still something inside?

The cave wasn't even really a cave than more of a cubby space, and he found he didn't even really fit. Instead, he knelt down and reached inside, sure that whatever was inside couldn't pull him in since he didn't fit.

Nothing bite him at least and as he pulled a bunch of sand into his hand, he did manage to grab one stone. It was something at least.

Adjusting to 6
He decided to go up and was glad he made the decision since there seemed to be no mermaids or strange creatures about. Before him was a massive cave, enough to fit 10 hunters and he swam inside as he was clearly able to see no one and no thing was inside.

Despite it's large size, it didn't hold much of anything. There were a few plants of wood, a pile of seaweed, and what looked to be a few wires from some appliance.

But under the pile of seaweed were a few stones, and he took them before leaving. He didn't really get the decor of that cave at all.

Tired and exhausted, he decided to check on what he decided might be his last cave. It had been a long day after all.

The cave was odd shaped though, and he found that it's weird, round shape and low ceiling made him feel both cramped but with a lot of room for his arms. The shorter hunters probably would have done well here, he thought.

He found two stones here, or those were the ones he could spot before his back started to cramp and pinch. It was too unbearable to be in this cave, and after a minute, he had to leave.

Once out, he checked his bag and decided that he had a good enough haul. With that, he headed up to the surface.

Step Five

Roll 1d6
1: you are safe.
2: you are safe.
3: you are safe.
4: a massive sea creature attacks you. Roll 1d20 to escape its gaping maw. If you roll 10+ you escape it, if you roll below you receive 10 damage and need to try again.
5: a bus-sized sea creature attack you. It has 30 HP and 5 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 13+, failure results in auto damage.
6: a small-sized sea creature attack you. It has 15 HP and 3 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 15+, failure results in auto damage.

If your HP drops below 0, you lose half your stones as your body floats back to the surface.

Change to 3

The swim back was safe and easy, and he more or less let his body float a moment before breaking the surface. With the waves around him, he started to swim to shore, and he noticed the warm rays of a setting sun behind him.

It was good he left now. A dark ocean was no hunter's friend.

Some people choose to chant out loud or do visual exercises to more perfectly focus on the task, but different methods work best for different people. Roll 1d10 for each rune stone
1-4: failure! The runestone never glows and eventually breaks.
5-8: Regular Rune! The runestone can power small, battery-operated runic devices for up to a week.
9-10: Superior Rune! The runestone can charge your runic weapons. (In and out of battle. If in battle, it will take 5 turns for the weapon to properly charge.)

It had been some time since he went diving again. He had been drained, tired, and otherwise just not "feeling it" whenever he looked at his diving bag and considered it

However, today was beautiful and he didn't have much work. Not much work meant he wouldn't be as tired and that meant he'd have time to think about other things. He didn't like that.

Grabbing his gear, he headed out and checked his things before walking out into the water and then started to head down.
