The water would begin to churn around Lugia's feet, causing it to stumble as its Aeroblast was thrown slightly off its target. It was at this time that a miracle happened. Jirachi's tags would begin to glow, whether it meant for this to happen or not. A ball of light would conjure its self in Dart's jacket pocket. He may or may not have noticed it but regardless there was now a round gem of some sort of his pocket, bursting with light which would consume Darts himself.

"Huh?" The gambler feels the inside pocket of his jacket for a second, causing his purple fingertips to brush lightly against what appeared to be a rounded gemstone that had just landed in his pocket. Heeeey... Normally I'd say this would be free money, but- His inner monologue is cut off as he starts to glow, and is transported outside of his body, his consciousness whizzing up into the sky, up into some kind of white abyss in the sky.

--

Hello Darts. Comes a voice from nowhere and everywhere at once, as Darts' consciousness floats in a vast empty white void, somewhere in this universe. It seems as though you've been chosen to be the recipient of a miracle. These aren't easy things to receive though, and they always come with a price no matter what. I think you know what that price is.

"Yeah, I think I've got it figured out, this isn't my first dance with a Legendary Pokemon, nor the elemental forces of wherever this is." The Gengar hybrid admits, nodding if he was able to... wherever this was. "Only get to cheat death once, right? No second plays at the table once the house credits you I guess... What is this stone?"

It will give you power. Power enough to do what it is you wished to be able to do, but I do not think you will be able to go another round in this game, at this time. Jirachi must have responded to your wish, and granted it without her knowing.

"Well, that's alright, isn't it?" Darts asks, half to the voice and half to himself. "This is for Snagem anyhow, something's broken in the universe and they're looking to fix it. Whatever that Death guy wants to tell us otherwise, this game has something else going on, though I can't put my finger on it..." He pauses, scratching his chin for a second. "Y'know, I've gotta admit like I've been feeling something has been up for a while. Like my story has come and gone, and while I've made a good run of it at some point there needs to be a moving on from me. Let another set of characters take over, y'know? No one suspected I would be the hero in this story, so I've got to do what I can to make sure the people that are going to be make it through. I'm sure whatever threatens the main universe, this group of Snagems have got it. I guess I came to the realization that at some time the torch has to be passed, so they can light their own way to the casino of fortune." He sighs, and after a moment of consideration says, "All of the others had alternate versions of themselves, but the alternate version of me wasn't there. Is that it, am I the only Darts in the multiverse?"

Never fear, jacketed wonder. The voice chuckles, sounding amused. There is another Darts too, in every universe, of course. The most recent one, the one the story is going to focus on so to speak, is a Giratina hybrid. He's a gambler too, but he's refining his combat, in order to protect the things he cares about. His body is even trickier than yours was to master, if that's within your imagination, but I think he'll go on to do even greater things than you, if he stays on the path he's on now.

"Well that's good. I would hate to know that the other Darts in other universes didn't have a shot at the belt of the Intercontinental Champion of Everything." Another pause, and then: "So what are you? Arceus? God? Jirachi? What?"

I thought you said you'd dealt with cosmic forces before. You should know how this is going to end.

"Yeah yeah, with me never finding out."

Exactly.

--

The entirety of the conversation with whatever cosmic force had decided to smile on the Gengar Hybrid this time may have taken a couple minutes, but to the rest of the Snagems it would be only seconds until Darts stops glowing and returns to his own body. His familiar gaseous form has taken on a reddish-purple hue, power crackling down the entire length of his body. His hands have become little more than whirling masses of pure ghost energy, barely visible at the center of the mass. His familiar grin is twice as large and in charge, and as he sets his sunglasses on the bridge of his nose one last time, his third eye opens on his forehead and glances around in an irritated sort of manner. "Sorry buddy." Darts says out loud, addressing his new locus, his voice sounding as ephemeral as his new form. "I don't have a sunglass-monacle for you." He turns his attention to the group of Snagems looking up at the Aeroblast coming towards them. In his new mega-evolved form, he has enough time to look around at everyone surrounding him, the people he did know, and people he didn't. Even if this Sol was from another universe, he still didn't deserve to die here. He probably had people to go see, other Darts to be friends with, people who would miss him. He hoped Giratina Darts, wherever he was, was appreciative, as Gengar Darts wasn't too fond of working on credit. With a stamp of his foot, Mega Darts hurls himself into the air in the path of the attack and cups his hands at his side, spinning ethereal energy between them. The room hums and buzzes as blackish-purple energy begins congealing between his hands, spiraling faster and faster as the Shadow Ball gets bigger and bigger, a veritable black hole absorbing anything resembling light as it engorges to the size of a flat-screen and larger quickly, as the beam hones in on the hybrid. In his new form he has enough time to turn back to the other Snagems just before he needed to hit the beam with his attack and shout just one word:

"Run!"

The human Raine watched as Darts mega evolved, staring in wonder. "I... I never knew hybrids could do that..." She watched as the Jirachi, now spent, started to fall to the ground, quickly grabbing the hybrid's Master Ball for her and recalling the spent legend. She then heeded Darts' warning and dragged the Crobat hybrid to the door as fast as she could, but had one last look back at Darts. "Thank you." With that, the two would disappear through the door.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back in the Terminus Cave, the two Crystals would stare at the Zygarde as it began Outraging, though before they could react, they were also hit by Dark's Dark Pulse attack, falling over. The purple haired one seemed to have a harder time standing back up, too.
"Gah, that really smarts.... That damn snake did a number on me, more than I thought."
"Oi. Which one you want?"
"You join them with the Houndoom p***k, Lady. I have an idea for this Pokémon." She then brought out a Pokéball and pulled out a necklace from under her shirt. "Demon Wing, use an Outrage of your own!" She touched the gem in the center of the necklace as the black Charizard appeared, spitting out flames as he appeared. It didn't take long for the dragon to glow brightly, though, and he emerged from it now with a more greenish hue now and blue flames on his tail and spewing from his mouth. He'd also gain spikes on his shoulders now, tipped with red as were the horns as he charged the the Zyguarde, going on his own rampage.
"Well, then." Lady stared at the newly evolved Mega Charizard and blinked, obviously impressed. She then switched her attention, getting herself as close to the door as safely possible for the time being. "Right. Kairos! Dazzling Gleam!" The Sigilyph nodded and flapped its wings a couple of times as it created an orb of pink light in front of the Avianoid, then shooting out a blast of said light at the Houndoom hybrid.
Sol had little choice to brace himself soon after landing, the Aeroblast's aftermath threatening to throw him off his feet. The matter of seconds felt like an eternity, noticing the sudden glow from Gengar Darts and the dramatic change in appearance that followed.
He didn't have much time to think about what was going on, though, for obvious reasons. That, and hearing the warning to run while an attack was coming, he knew good and well to try and get through that door. "Cera, I'd suggest you hold on..." He said, doubting she could hear him too well in the whirlpool as he had a way to fish her out still. His eyes would give a brief glow, focusing as much as he could into a quick Psychic burst, but he'd use it to pull the Mew out instead of an assault. As soon as he managed to get her out, he'd use his hold and her startled expression to hurl her through the door at once. No time was wasted before he followed, hurrying through himself.
At least, Gengar Darts' efforts wouldn't be in vain.
---
"So... only ten?" Aden asked, deciding not to entertain the thought of he and either Aile being any sort of loving couple or flooding an area. "What'll happen to everyone else, then? I know they'll stay here at least."
---
Dark would find himself blinded by the Dazzling Gleam, and Zygarde didn't take the sudden Outrage well at all. The sheer power, mixed with the newly found might from Demon Wing's new form, did quite a number to it. A pained roar could be heard all around, one that ended up being really close to the one lagging behind.
"Oh, joy," the alternate Sol would finally speak up after catching up at last, his tone utterly deadpan. Seeing a Houndoom hybrid that felt familiar was bad enough. Zygarde wasn't helping matters.
However, no one would have a lot of time to react, as Zygarde decided it had enough humoring for one day. Its entire body would glow along with the ground underneath it, welling with all the fury earthen chi could hope to produce. The cave would soon be subject to the very wrath of the land, creating intense tremors and threatening to destroy the entire cave and bury everyone inside it. If those didn't do something, then the ground also threatening to swallow everyone up as well would.
As soon as Dark's vision came back, seeing the sudden bout from Zygarde was enough to tell him that trying to deal with this lot, or even use the legendary for an advantage, would be a terrible idea. But, he could still try to bring about a demise for the rest. Trying to bring the others' focus away from Zygarde and the destruction, the Houndoom hybrid flashed another taunting grin as he immediately bolted through the door.
After making it all the way out of the jungle, I only come to find that I was alone. Doc was gone. Freth was gone. Tristen too. They were lost to limbo unless something happened. I was angry. Though I noticed something else. The alternate, more powerful me was not here either. Stuck, perhaps, somewhere. Part of me wondered if this was a blessing in disguise or a premonition of this was only to get a lot more uglier than what it already has.
I was crushed. I wanted to rage against this deity. Wouldn't be the first one that I have fought, that'd be for sure. Fight him. Gang up on him. End this torment here and now. But, as much as I wanted to...I couldn't. For the first time in years, once again, I felt powerless. All the training, all the lessons...all for naught. Nothing could prepare one for this. How could someone? One that literally holds destiny in their hands and plays with it like a Skitty to a yarn ball. I actually, for the first time, start to lose any hope now.
I felt...cold. Standing amongst those that may or may not be my allies. I'm wondering why aren't they trying to make a stand themselves? Do they feel as bad as I do? Why doesn't this Death get it over with already?
"Riiight, loving couple that literally just met in there. Uh-huh." Aile would sit down, rubbing her right leg. "This has just been an amazing day so far," she quipped. "When will the fun ever stop?"
~~~~~~~~~

Crystal stared hard at the Zygarde she he rampaged, a low growl growing. "If that's how this is... Demon Wing, let's go down swinging! Everyone else, move!"

"And you?"

"If everyone else makes it safely out here and everything goes back to normal, then I'll be pretty damn happy. MOVE!" Lady looked her over for a moment, then recalled her Pokémon and darted for the door herself as Crystal and her Demon Wing kept the Zygarde busy with his Outrage.

Giratina Darts hustles through the door after Blizz, not sure if some malady of sight or hearing was affecting him as he refused to acknowledge the gambler. Limbo was an odd area, and upon hearing the requirement for a team of ten, he wondered if he ought to sign up. He could use some work stretching his muscles a bit more in this new body, he wasn't used to resting after the days he had with the Dragon Clan.

--

'Darts' hustles through the door past Crystal, the barest look of familiarity crossing his face as he passes her before busting into Limbo, confronted with the other Snagems, he silently pockets his hunting knives and pushes up his sunglasses slightly in order to listen more closely.

Whirl Islands
The Light Screen forged by the Carbink would cause a hefty amount of blow back for the legend, causing it to wail in pain but alas the Aeroblast was released, however weakened. With the Carbink taken with the watered down Aeroblast it would meet the Doom Desire, a power struggle taking place. The legend fought fiercely, and seemed as if it would be victorious as the power gap between the two legends was simply too great. There was still time for the Snagem's to escape though, the raging waters dying down as the Lugia focused all its might to win this clash. Unfortunately this meant leaving the Jirachi to fend for its self.

Limbo
Those who had just passed through a door in their reality would now find them in the vast emptiness of white with the other Snagems. Death would great them all the same, with a cocky attitude and his signature laugh. "So many of you have survived the first round! Kuku! Unfortunately all of you can not advance. Here is the deal, the next round will involve teams! Only ten of you can advance, each in an opposing team of five. Both teams will then be given a...challenge, kuku. Now while you decide which of you goes on why don't we have a history lesson, hm? Kukuku!" Death laughed as images were conjured in front of the Snagems, showcasing things they did in the other realities, and some things they were sure they didn't do.

"New Mauville City nearly ended in total failure, were it not for the heroic deeds of Isaac the Engineer and Rhyme, the Rhythm of Lightning! The brave couple fought the monstrous Zapdos, combining Isaac's ingenuity with machines and Rhyme's mastery over electricity, in order to stow away the legend's massive chi reserve in the form of a crystal, similar to a Thunderstone, dubbed by them as the Zapdos Heart. This stone would go onto power New Mauville for thousands of years, and the couple would repopulate the city with their hybrid offspring, all masters of technology! Don't ya love a happy ending? Kukuk!" Death laughed.

"The First Human-Pokemon War ended in a cease fire, a brave group of hybrids having stopped the advance of Virizion's forces which would have certainly decimated the only colony in Unova, and thus put an end to any possibility of human settlements in the region. With Virizion cut down the hybrids acted as peacekeepers between the humans and Pokemon, both sides accepting them as one of their own. Unfortunately, the hybrids were unable to prevent the Second Human-Pokemon War which devastated the land and saw the leader of the hybrids, his own son and wife, killed. The Cold One was then banished to the far northern region of Unova, where he lived the rest of his life in a cave made icy by his sorrow...now that wasn't happy! Kuku!" Death again, laughed.

"Another couple went down in history as having prevented the behemoth, Regigigas, from reshaping the world a second time! The loving couple, a hybrid and a human! Chased down the three Regi which had been summoned to Regigigas's pyramid. It was there that they defeated the Regi before they could awaken their master, and banished them to various tombs across the world. For good measure they flooded the desert around the pyramid so that no one could find it again...how they did that I don't know, kuku!" Death said.

Older Ren looked at Older Kasumi, then at their younger selves, and finally to the two Isaac's and Rhyme "Seven..." he counted, realizing that this mysterious force must be planning to split them up, at least to some degree, if they were to be put into teams of just five.

"A group composed of mostly hybrids and some humans traveled to the Whirl Islands after having learned of a great calamity that was foretold. The legend Lugia which slept under the islands to control its power has amassed for too much energy for far too long without depleting any of it. A prophecy told that Lugia would lose control of its power and a great tsunami would flood all of Johto, turning the region to ruin. The group entered Lugia's lair and intended to fight the beast in hopes that it would drain some of its pent up power, knowing good and well capture was near impossible. The group fought bravely and while succeeded in preventing the calamity, a life had to be given in exchange. A man who would go down in history sacrificed himself to save his friends and prevent Lugia from escaping the islands before it calmed down. This man achieved something all thought impossible. He would go down in history as the first hybrid to Mega Evolve, Darts the Defier, having defied all limitations to save others. Kukuku...happy ending, somewhat, bah!" Death scoffed.

"Another story about a group trying to save their land, or rather this time, trying to save another. Cinnabar Island was in a dire situation, the dormant volcano the city was built on was about to explode. A group of young ones heard tales of a legend in Sinnoh who could control volcanoes and thus they set out to capture the legend and bring it to Cinnabar Island so that it might keep the island's volcanic activity in check. While they were successful in finding Heatran, and awakening him, they soon realized he was far too powerful for them. The fighting had angered Heatran greatly, its long slumber disturbed and the Magma Stone destroyed during the battle. With the Magma Stone no longer existing to bind Heatran to his volcano the legend erupted the volcano, creating a land bridge to the main land which it would then journey to Mt. Coronet and erupt it as well, burying Sinnoh under rock, lava, and ash. Heatran would go onto use the massive mountain range as a breeding ground. Soon Sinnoh fell to the Heatran hoard and all of civilization was abandoned. Oh and Cinnabar Island erupted, yeah. Kukuku! Horrible ending!" Death seemed to like that one.

"Terminus Cave, an evil hybrid had journeyed there to awaken the beast said to dwell there, Zygarde. This vile hybrid did not wish to use the monster for his own gain, no, all he wanted was to cause destruction and chaos. A group of heroes knew of this evil hybrid's plan and set off to stop him from reaching Zygarde and awakening the creature. Though they battled hard, the evil hybrid was successful in provoking Zygarde. The legend rampaged causing many tremors to shake the region. The earthquakes caused a far bit of damage but the heroes managed to calm Zygarde, but not before the Canine of Chaos succeeded in his alternate plot, killing the good half from which he came. The evil hybrid had won a victory in and end and escaped. The heroes left the cave feeling a bitter sweet victory of their own...kukuku! Another good story!" Death was twisted.

"Now, since all of you are so slow on picking teams I will do it myself! Kukuku! The two birds from Kalos will be team leaders, Sol and Blizzard, Fire and Ice Team respectively. Oh how I love symbolism! Kukuku! Now, better Isaac, simply Crystal, airplane Kasumi, and whatever Kain will be on Fire Team. Vanilla Darts, tentacle Lykas, metal mouth Leslie, and Rhyme will be on Ice Team! Oh, forgot to get those who aren't here! Kukuku!" Swirling black vortexes would open up in front of the Snagems and spit out anyone not in Limbo.

"Now, off to the playground! Kukuku!" Again, the sinister gateways would open up and consume the Snagems, taking them away to another far off land.

The Snagems would find themselves at the base of some sort of mountain, many sets of steps and platforms lined the sides of the mountain and lava trailed down it, passing under said man made structures. Some Snagems might realize where they are, Mt. Battle. "Now, the game is simply! Be the first to get to the top and win it all for your team! The winning team advances to the next and final round! Kukuku! Well, that's about it, good luck! ...you'll need it! Kukuku!"

That was odd, could it really be that simple? The Snagems would notice the two teams started on the same side, just barely within seeing distance. Sure, they would all race up the mountain but would anyone really fight one another? What's the point? Plus it's just a mountain to climb, wild Pokemon don't exist in Orre and there didn't seem to be another person for miles. Something wasn't right.

The human in the jacket blinks a couple times behind his shades as he's chosen and assigned to a team, before being spat out into the harsh Orre reality facing him. He slides his hands into his pockets casually as he surveys the situation, two teams of Snagems materializing, one near him and the other just far out as far as the eye can see. He tips his shades a little to look at the opposition, way far out there, before pushing his glasses back up his nose again. Being known as Darts, he decided to wait and see what the group's plan would be.

Crystal raised an eyebrow at 'Darts', scanning him over while she had the chance. "Mmhm." She was then ported off to Mt. Battle, tilting her head. "Uh-huh. Well. Way too simple.... Shall we?" The hybrid would wait for everyone else before moving, flicking her tail back and forth nervously.

Aden hadn't gotten a lot of time to say much of anything when Sol was selected to go on, only watch as he suddenly disappeared. The same could be said for Cera, who at least tried to tag along. Her effort ending in failure, she looked around.

"...wait... where's Ammy? And that other guy?"

"Dunno," Aden replied, shrugging, "They weren't around in the pyramid..."

Having never made it through the door, their likely fates were a safe assumption, but the two weren't so sure about what would happen in limbo. Seeing that Houndoom hybrid also in limbo didn't make for good feelings, though, even without knowing anything about him.

---

Sol, on the other hand, found himself at the base of Mt. Battle almost as soon as he had shown up in limbo. He felt like he had gotten a second wind to boot, but he could notice the other team in the distance. "No better of an idea than before," he mused, making no progress on figuring out how to do much more than play along with Death's games. The objective, at least, remained simple. But not being certain who was an alternate self or not, fights were likely between both groups. Maybe even within them.

Seeing who appeared to be "airplane Kasumi", an idea came to mind to get a better assessment. "How good are you with scouting?" He asked, looking to her. If anything, he thought the rest would have a better chance of handling a fight, while this one could weave in and out of such skirmishes.

Finding herself on a dusty plain after she had barely managed to enter the strange between world that 'Death' occupied. Extremely powerful he might be, but death he was not. Stopping on her focus towards their current omniscient tormentor of the week, the little girl would stare at the hill in front of them before looking to her bag. Opening a Pokeball before mounting onto Mauri, the Mawile hybrid would slowly...ever so slightly....getting there......be lifted off the ground as the Fearow grew used to the increased weight of its trainer. Flying ever so slowly towards the hill as her Fearow grew more used to the sudden weight, Leslie kept an eye out for whatever might happen next. Arceus be damned if she was gonna stick to the ground for something that seemed guaranteed to be a trap.

So Rhyme was to be separated from Isaac and put with an entirely new group she only vaguely recognized. No matter; in order to survive one must learn to adapt.

She ran through the list of pokemon in her mind and shook her head. Playground? She didn't like this as the sickly feeling passed and she stared up, wide-eyed, at the structure. She looked towards her group leader, then towards the girl climbing onto the bird pokemon as they rose up. "Do you see anything from there?" It was at least a good initial start, if their teammate could view potential shortfalls from above.

This was way too easy - especially compared to what I had to contend with before hand. With all said though, it leaves me to wonder just what he had in mind. Was he expecting everyone to rush up the mountain and duke it out every inch of the way? Personally, I was ready to give the big 'screw you' to this guy. I'm done playing games. We couldn't refuse to challenge, that'd get us no where. Mr. Death or whatever the hell he was wouldn't be too pleased with that. That said though...maybe I can play a whole other angle. No one said we couldn't try to cheat 'death'. That said, this deity is probably watching every move we're making.

I looked over towards Sol's team down the way. But then at the same time, I had a realization...I had the x-factor from my own team. Urgh...this was going to be tricky...

The various Snagems scattered across the time-space continuum were drawn together by the power of Death, deposited in Limbo together just before TentacleLykas was chosen to continue on to the next round of Death's game.

"Wait, what? Why me?" He asked, confused, though he was hurled onto the next course for the next challenge before any answer was given, leaving the others behind in the process.

"Huh....Mount Battle. And it's basically a King of the Mountain style round, huh?" He questioned as he stood back. Looking around, he found that the others were in a similar situation. Basically, that those who had been chosen were sizing up the battlefield and, possibly, deciding who the biggest threats would be. Determined, already, that the opposing team had little to fear from him as an offensive threat, he flopped onto his butt for the moment and decided he'd wait and see how things went for a bit before he started to get too deep into this little game. Besides, if everyone else started fighting and wore themselves down, he could just waltz on up to the top unimpeded.
