This was the last auction of the die. Only the serious bidders remained as the sky darkened and the birdsong disappeared. Tristan still looked as composed as ever, clothes neat and straight. He stood comfortably at the side of the ring, having a conversation with an acquaintance before the auction. When it was time, he straightened up and walked to the podium. The crowd quieted quicker this time and he had the mare brought out. "Here we have a beautiful dun mare who is sure to please out in the field. From a distinctive hunter line, she will serve you well in sport."
The mare's movements were fluid and strong as she was led around the ring, a restrained power to her.
"Let's get to bidding, shall we?"
