Cetalese - Vintner's Stall
5 Marks

The vintner's stall was already doing a fair business, but Cetalese found herself pausing just outside the small crowd. It might not be a bad idea to pick up a bottle for later, or to put aside for a special occasion.

A pair of grinning weyrfolk vacated their positions at the front about the time Cetalese decided to see what the stall had to offer, and she quickly and politely excused herself into their places, looking over the selection available. It seemed the Glasscraft had gotten their tenterhooks into the vintner business; rather than skins of wine, it appeared this pair was selling bottles. The prices were fair, nothing too heavy, but Ceta would sample the stock before she purchased anything. If their fair wines were good, she'd think about picking up a bottle of something a bit more expensive.

"A glass of your fair white, please?" she asked, sliding a Mark across the counter to get change. She might end up needing the smaller marks later in the night. She glanced briefly at the small trays of assorted snacks. This might not be a bad place to wait for someone to come by.

Halith, has D'lin put in an appearance yet?

I have not heard from Plexith yet, Cetalesemine, but I can ask?

Please do.

Plexith? Plexiiiiith? Plexith, Cetalesemine wishes to know if your D'linmine is at the Gather. She is looking for him, I think.

"Certainly miss!" said Kay as she opened a bottle and poured for the green rider.

"And please help yourself to nibbles," Kallnar presented her with an assortment of olives and nuts along with her change.

J'nes - PC Weaver's stall
5 Marks (54 from rank, 1 from threadfall pearls)

"Thank you, good sir, and a pleasant Gather to you," J'nes said as he slipped the dagger into the matching leather sheath. He considered slipping the sheathed dagger onto his belt for safekeeping, but decided it would be too awkward to manage with a baby in the way and just held on to it for now.

He moved off to peruse the other stalls, and saw at least two displaying Weavercraft goods. He had no need to buy any of those, since he could make all that he needed, but it was always nice to see what others of his craft were up to. He headed for them, trying to decide which to check first, when the sight of bolts of cloth drew him to one table. He stopped in front of Riarna's wares and ran an appreciative eye over the fabric on display. There was a handsome array of linens in a variety of colors, but it was the silks that really drew the eye. There were two bolts of it, one in a crisp white and another dyed a brilliant crimson.

Now there was a pretty treat. It wasn't often you saw a fabric that nice, and he couldn't resist running a fingertip over the smooth fabric and admiring the soft shimmer as it caught the light. He could make something truly special with that, he was sure. But then he sighed. A fabric that fine would be quite expensive, and he ought to spend his marks on something more practical. He turned instead to the linens to examine them for something that would make good baby clothes.

When Riarna had a moment he caught her attention and asked, "Pardon me, how much are you selling the fabric for?" and gestured towards the bolts of linen.

Cetalese - Vintner's Stall
4 7/8 Marks

"Thank you," Cetalese replied, smiling as she accepted the cup from Kay and placed her change into her belt purse after a cursory look to make certain it was the right amount.

She is getting wine at a stall right now. Halith turned her attention back to her rider. They are coming, Cetalesemine. I have told them where you are.

Thank you, dearest. Cetalese took a sip of the wine, letting the flavors roll over her tongue before she swallowed. A fair wine was an apt description for the vintage. Not bad. She'd let D'lin make his own purchase choices, but she wouldn't waste her wine by drinking it too quickly. Deciding they would end up spending some time at the vintner's stall tasting their wine, Cetalese reached out and snagged an olive from a nearby bowl. As she popped the fruit into her mouth, she let her eyes scan the crowds for any familiar faces.

Tanya - Wandering In Late
2 Marks

Tanya didn't have much to spend, but that was par for the course for her. She wasn't expecting to do much more than purchase a little food, a cup of wine, and maybe, if she were lucky, some cheap bauble to brighten her day. In spite of her limited funds, Tanya was practically glowing with the excitement of a Gather day. This one, in spite of the cause, was sure to go better than the last one. And she had company for it.

Tanya tiled her head up to look at the much taller rider beside her. Tanya's surprise at his asking her to the Gather had passed quickly; Tanya was much more in the habit of enjoying things that came to her than questioning them. "M'lan, what first?"

Riarna - PC Weavers' Stall

Riarna's attention was immediately captured by her new customer, though she was careful not to make him uncomfortable by staring and waited to address him until he had a question for her. She moved to his portion of the booth, leaving the riders talking.

"The linen is all 1 and 3/4 marks per bolt, regardless of color." Riarna lifted one bolt and unrolled a short length to give a better display of the tight, even weave. "All the bolts you see here I made myself, so I can guarantee their quality." The silk cloth had taken some doing, she had to admit privately, but she had brought only those bolts that were worthy of being sold. It was good to see some interest in them; last Gather, most had wanted completed pieces. It wasn't unusual, but getting someone who admired quality was always a nice change. "You'll get no fraying edges when using these."

Riarna gave him a moment to inspect the fabric for himself, then asked with a smile, "May I ask what you intend to make?"

M'lan grinned at Tanya's excitement, he was glad he'd invited her. The very reason they were 'late' to the party was due to the fact she had intended working this Gather day, but he'd convinced the Headwoman that she didn't NEED Tanya, not for a few hours anyway. It had taken a little time for Tanya to get changed for the fun but M'lan happily waited, fliching the odd snackable from the head cook's preparations which had earned him a sharp rap on the knuckles eventually.

"How about a game?" he asked, looking over at a nearby ring toss stall, tugging her gently towards it, though if she wanted to go elsewhere he'd go along.

Tanya - Ring Toss

A game? Tanya turned her head to look at the ring toss stall M'lan was pulling her toward and hesitated. She really didn't have a lot of marks... but, well, she did want to have a good time, and it looked like fun. She prayed she had the coordination for a game like this!

"All right." They waited their turn, since the ring toss seemed to be a popular game, and when they got to the front and saw the jealously-guarded flit egg in a pot, Tanya gasped involuntarily. "Oh! No wonder so many people are playing!"

Tanya had not been one of those blessed with a firelizard in the seeming flood of them following the Revolution. There had been lists, lists of names of interested parties, and Tanya's hadn't featured high enough on those lists to get her an egg before the supply ran out. It had been a passing disappointment. Kita was at home in her small kennel-- one she was going to outgrow very soon-- but Tanya was still tempted to try for the egg. She could handle two baby animals at the same time, she was sure.

She fished about in her belt purse for the required quarter-mark and once it was in hand she took a look at the other prizes on display. There was quite a selection, even after many people had been winning points, so even if she didn't score high enough to win the flit egg, she could still walk away with something nice for herself.

"You go first," she suggested to M'lan, one hand temporarily gripping his arm. She grinned at him. "I'm terrified I'm going to make a fool of myself!"

J'nes - PC Weaver's stall
5 Marks (54 from rank, 1 from threadfall pearls)

J'nes admired the fabric as the weaver unrolled it. At her question he smiled back and patted the laden sling across his chest. "Baby clothes, this little guy's brand new," be answered. "I have enough for now, but I'm running low on suitable fabric, and he'll outgrow what I've made in a few months. Linen will do the job well, seeing as it's durable and resists stains. If you have any that's particularly soft, that would be perfect." He cast a rueful look at the silks. "Silk would not at all be a wise idea for this, though it would look good on my weyrmate." He shook his head and turned back to the linens, fingering them to test the texture.

Wen - Ring toss
Marks 4
Points - 2
- New total = 2+ 4 = 6

"Wrestling is right up Jemi's ally. She would have been gleeful at an attempt to smack about some men." Wen hummed slightly, his score had been less then impressive. "You did well." And she seemed a bit too gleeful. Perhaps they should make this into a contest?

"Well, I guess if we want to find out if it is just luck or skill... we could put it to a test. A mark each, loser buys the winner a glass of wine?" He asked, passing over a other mark for three rings.

Not the best, but better.

A new stall has opened!

Jr. Journeywoman Farmcrafter T'ni of black Jeth - A wiry woman in her mid twenties with darkly tanned skin and flyaway black hair. She is dressed in a vivid green sleeveless shirt with matching trousers. Her black Jeth, a shy fellow, is not around.

One of a kind: Fire Flower Bush - 2 Marks
This shrub stands about three feet out of its large terracotta pot. It has a short trunk with pale bark but is mainly a well tamed ball of glossy thin dark green leaves. It is also covered liberally in flowers. Oh wow flowers. Shaped like thin five pointed stars they are white at the centre and fade out to yellow, through orange, to bright red. Each bloom is about and inch tall. The plant gives off a pleasant spicy smell and in Trine's climate will flower twice a year.

Flowering plants - 3/4 Mark each. Buy two for 1 1/2 Marks, or three for 2 marks!
A range of pretty potted flowering plants to brighten any home! Some are meant to be kept indoors but some can be put outside your weyr. These plants are quite small, are all under a foot tall.

One of a kind: Banzai Tree - 3 Marks (T'ni is not famed for her spelling)
A miniature tree sitting in a miniature gravel garden. The tree is about eighteen inches tall. It resembles a juniper in shape but its leaves are a a glossy inky dark blue.

Common Potted herbs - 3/4 Mark a plant. Buy two for 1 1/2 Marks, or three for 2 marks!
A variety of potted herbs are on offer here; rosemary, thyme, basil, lavender, and many others. They all have helpful little cards stuck into their soil explaining how to look after them as well as common uses and interesting factoids. T'ni thinks they're interesting anyway.

Snapper plants 1 Mark for a small plant, 2 for medium, 2 1/2 for large
Tired of being bitten by bugs? The snapper plant is your friend! When a bug lands on the specialised leaf it snaps shut and devours the beasties before it can feast on your blood. These come in different sizes with larger ones, or plants with more traps, costing more.

Dried herbs - 1/8 Mark a bundle for common. 1/4 for uncommon. 1 Mark for rare.
Bundles of dried herbs, some for cooking some medicinal. There are some rather uncommon offerings from the depths of the jungle in here with a wide variety of health claims surrounding them.

Two available: Blaze fruit plant - 1 Mark per plant
Not for the faint hearted! These plants sprout round red fruits that pack a spicy punch! They give a delicious fruity flavour to cooking though! The spice is similar to horseradish or wasabi rather than to chillies.

Ring toss game

M'lan grinned again, his teeth white in his darkly tanned face "You're not paying! I have more marks than you" he said, telling the stall holder "I'm paying for the lady's attempt" he said, waiting with Tanya for his turn. He had noticed her eyes on the firelizard egg and while he wasn't interested in gaining a fourth, he wanted to win it for Tanya, she'd been bypassed for a flit egg. He'd seen it himself just recently, thankfully she'd had her puppy to concentrate on but he was determined to give it a shot, for her... and if not, he'd win a flit toy for her anyway.

He put his opposite hand over the one that held onto his arm and smiled "You could never do that!" he averred "You'll do great, you can go first" he told her, urging her to move in front of him.

M'lan - 5 marks (spending 1/2 mark on his and Tanya's attempts, he's not letting her pay for her first shot XD)

S'lin - Ring Toss
4 1/2 Marks

S'lin examined the various wooden boxes on display, flipping open a lid here or there, checking the carving, or running a finger along the wood to test the grain. She eventually selected one in a light-colored wood with a simple pattern of carved leaves along the lid. "I'll take this one," she told the stall owner, holding it up for him.

Riarna - PC Weavers' Stall

Riarna looked at the baby strapped to J'nes's chest and gave the baby a smile all its own. It was being quiet for the moment, which made it less offensive than other infants its age. Babies also were less inclined to get up to the mischief and poor behavior that marked older children and some adults. Parents also preferred it when others made at least a small overture at observing their children's positive attributes, so Riarna made it common practice to observe those types of customs.

"The linen will make fine baby clothes. I think the best would be the medium gray here. It's the softest of the bolts I have on hand and it wouldn't show any lingering stains too badly. The green is also fairly soft." Riarna shifted those so they were on top for his inspection. "The silks are 4 Marks a bolt," she commented, since he had brought them up.

Tanya - Ring Toss
2 Marks

Tanya could feel the blush starting, but she grinned broadly at M'lan and slid her hands away from him as her turn came about. Still smiling, she thanked the vendor as he handed her the rings, took a deep breath to focus herself, and gave it her best shot.

Her first ring managed to hit a 2-point bottle and her face lit up. Biting her lip, Tanya tossed her second and missed, but she was determined to make two out of the three. Taking another deep breath to clear away any giddiness at her earlier success, sure that was what had caused her to miss the second toss, Tanya aimed for a 6-point and carefully flicked her wrist to send the ring sailing through the air. She squealed when it dinged and rattled down onto the bottle and clapped her hands once as she jumped up and down a few times.

"That wasn't bad!" Tanya exclaimed, looking up at M'lan and then back at the stall keeper. Looking at the score board she had to conclude it wasn't the best throw, and therefore not high enough for the firelizard, but that didn't deflate her good mood. It was enough for a nice prize off the high-priced shelves.

M'lan kind of liked it when Tanya blushed, especially when he was the cause, he liked to make her happy. "Good throw!" he said when she made the toss, grinning at her.

When she'd taken her turn he stepped forwards to take his turn, while he didn't want to really out-do Tanya, he wanted to win the firelizard egg for her, and he wanted to impress her.

Well.. that wasn't as good as her toss but it was still a fairly good throw, or so he thought. "You can use my points too, if it's allowed Tanya, I was trying for the egg for you but ..." he made a mock crestfallen face "I failed!" He was being overly dramatic, hopefully in an amusing way. He was too pleased that Tanya had even agreed to come to the gather WITH him to really be bothered about trivial things. He turned to the stallholder and asked "Hey, do you think i could team up with Tanya here and let her use some of my points to get one of those cuddly firelizards?..............If the lady wants to" he added quickly, realising he was being a little too pushy.
