Lozt_1 My wife had me join so I could explain this to you. A warlock is an olde english term used to describe a hunter of witches. They also had the power and some still have the power to harness the "Aura" of psychic energy from the witch. This is done through what is referred to as a purgeing or pain ritual. It is taxing on both parties and the witch is ALWAYS subdued during this ritual. It involves a lot of abuse. I will not go into detail. I ran a "Coven" of hunters for quite a long time. Until I found enlightenment through my "Cache or horde" As it was called. We also practice strange protection and anti charm rituals. This is all done with others chi or life energy. NOT Many die but ALL get hurt dureing rituals like this. There is no sex or degradeing this is not some S&M thing that got out of hand. This happens everyday to people who are wiccan and or witches. It is sad but it happens. We are only there to destroy what you work so hard to achieve. I have not practiced for quite some time. All things were taught to me from boy hood up. Yes I still do the simple protections to keep what I have done from comeing back 10 fold.I'm not trying to be rude, but I would really like to know where you got that information from. Because of all the history I know, your definition of the word warlock is incorrect. Warlock never meant "witch hunter" in any language. If the idea of warlock=witch hunter is of your own invention, fine, just say so. But, if you're going to make claims of the history of the word, I at least would like to see you back that up.

Its from a book that has been passed down in my family for a few hundred years at least. It does not say specifically that means witch hunter. This is just the aspect it describes.

Well, I hope you won't find me rude if I say I don't believe any of that, right? Others may take you at face value, but I have a hard time listening to Pagans who sound like they're playing a role playing game.

Lozt_1 to each their own... Believe or not it is up to you... I'm just saying that as for as historical accuracy goes, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the word warlock ever meant witch hunter or had anything to do with those who hunt witches. So, unless your book is the only surviving historical document that claims such (which is a laughable idea), you don't have any facts to stand on. But, then again when did we ever lets facts get in the way of what we believe..... Hey, isn't witch hunting what the warlocks do on Charmed?

And there's nothing in this thread that would lead me to believe that the idea that warlocks are historically witch hunters is more than wishful thinking. He can believe what he likes about being a witch hunter and all that.....I just get pissed off when people make up history to back up thier claims. There's just no historical basis for what he's claiming, just like there's no historical basis that there was an underground Goddess worshipping cult that survived through the ages and emerged again when the new age stuff started to catch on.

Not necessarily, the idea of witches and warlocks brings the image of Charmed to some people, when asked what we knew about warlocks the information from those books might be all one knew. There were some similarities between the warlocks on the show and what is described here though. I suppose to believe is up to you.

Well, call me a skeptic, but anything that sounds like it's out of an RPG I'm not going to take at face value. A healthy dose of skepticism keeps me from being fluffy.
