Suddenly there were little black creatures as far as the eye could see. Billy was mortified and around him were crazy students. Yes. The farm boil was pretty convinced that most of them were crazy. Some were acting like badass warriors, others were crying, some were hiding and he was pretty sure nothing like this happened when he stayed home on the farm.
Estelle picked up on Billy's uncertainty and with a wave of her legs, "I need to go back to BIlly darling.." Her foot tapped Thannas on the head right before the massive spider hopped to the floor and skittered back to her reaper.
""Stelle.." Billy was actually visibly relieved for once to have his familiar back. Usually she only embarrassed him but with the shock of all this, it was good to have someone he knew.
"We'll be fine.." She reassured and climbed up his back. "Just fight as best you can and we'll be fine." Just as Vesper let loose a battle cry and leapt wildly into fighting.
"Stick with that ghoul.." Estelle laughed a bit.

The hellhound simply exhaled and shaking his head toward the undead-looking creature. He wasn't particularly fond of talking during fights, he noticed those who did often wind down to trash talking their opponent. That was another thing he was not too keen on either, but if his opponent was up for it, that was fine. Tonight would be the first time he has every fought with someone rather than against them.
"I don't talk too much."
Unless he liked you. Throwing a fist at one or two shadows as they jumped away. Better than letting them harm someone.

"Ah c'mon, lay off the ghoulie a bit, Vansome," Touchstone teased the demon with a poke of its vine. "She means well, and I dunno 'bout you but we need a bit've teamwork to do this now that the beasties're as mad as cut snakes." But it was charmed that the dandy dog had stuck around and offered him a big greatful grin for his attempts to heal it.
And then it got both flashed and kissed by a ghoul. Boy howdie it ought to get out more. The malboro was in a small daze as Kari listed out the plan, watching Ruth suffer (suffer?) the aftereffects of inhaling some of that . . . miasmatic breath its kind was known for. And then it burst into laughter for no reason as the ghoul skated about in a haze of her own, its viney hair rustling as the more sentient tentavines clacked their jaws. "That oughta keep me going~"
"Well look, you're all here, you know the plan. So!" It gestured to the zombie - Edgar, now - and clapped its hands together. "How's about you keep those creepy crawlies offa me and I'll try to deal some damage, huh?"

"Erm... thank you... having a bit of an off day" Kari chuckled nervously to the ghoul who had healed her a bit, embarrassed for letting her emotions get the better of her. Taking a steadying breath, the calm it brought made the ghoul realized the zombie of their group was talking to her.
"Edgar... alright then, thank you for letting me know" Kari beamed, noting the polite tone the zombie used. "Thanks for the support, Touchstone, I appreciate it", she replied with a bright smile. "Now if you two will excuse me, I suppose I should try to pull my weight around here", the ghoul breathed out in a stretch before she launched herself into a mass of shadowlings.
The smile on her face broadened as she caught quite a few shadowlings in her sweep through the mob. Kindness could do amazing things for morale. Uncaring of the small scratches that now littered her clothes and skin, Kari stepped back to view the results.
"Maybe I'm finally catching my second wind", the ghoul giggled as she did a twirl of triumph in place.

Id had just finished stomping on a series of the creatures. They didn't quite die, really...just oozed back into the floor, or, in the case of the creature she had punted into a wall, disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
Somewhere up ahead, in one of the main rotundas of the maul, she heard voices. Was somebody crying? She still couldn't see.
Id hovered above the floor, wings fluttering warily. It probably was a safer idea to back out of here...but her mothman senses told her a delightful amount of chaos and disaster waited ahead. Id flew upwards, zooming along the ceiling. As she flew, a long portal began to open in the wall beside her. Dozens of the strange creatures spilled out, oozing down the wall, making their way towards her.

"Exit," Joe said, "get out, vamoose, leave," he said, steering the dragon out...and into a pile of beady and eager eyes.
"...or get eaten and never be heard from again," he said dryly.
He adjusted his sleeves.
"Alright, I've got it."
He cleared his throat in an important and magely way.
"....shoo. go on," he said, shoving them with the butt of his staff. This was followed by a very unmanly shrieked as they dogpiled him.
What followed was neither dignified or scholarly.

The rock at the end of his staff glowed a strange and violent purple. Joe didn't say any words, like he knew he was supposed to, he just thought HELP very, very loudly.
There was a distant rumble.
The rocks from the curiousities shop shook and rolled right off their fancy stands, geods and crystals and beads, with bags of gravel from the Groan and Garden center, and some of the colorful rocks at the bottom of fishtanks. And they all made a beeline for Joe.
At least it got the shadows off, worried they'd be hit in the crossfire of Joe attacking himself with rocks.

Somewhere on the far side of the maul, a security troll was wrestling with a six foot tall dragon in an attempt at getting out of the only door free of shoppers. There was a lot of swearing, some fumbling, and finally the troll managed to weasel his way out first and leave the dragon behind.
Which was very unfortunate for the dragon, as it turned out.
Everything, every moment, attack, assist, even every movement itself seemed to draw to a strange long note, unfulfilled and unsatisfactory, as if something was missing. And perhaps something was, but for those fighting they had long forgotten, sucked into this strange spiral of dream - or was it?
The next second passed, another shadowling, dissipated. Silence again.
And once again they retreated, as the air itself seemed to buzz, to whisper something. Words.
- C...... M..........N...................-
They were gone, replaced by a single, black crater that appeared from the ground. A crater that revealed a massive head first, easily several feet high, followed by a pair of claws, antennae, beady yellow eyes. It lumbered slowly, shaking the earth with each step, more interested in gouging everything around it than just its assailants.
What can be destroyed will only come back stronger

This wasn't exactly as exciting as he thought. For the first time, in a very long time, he felt fear. He felt small. He felt weak. Powerless. Yet, he did his best to not let those express themselves. No, he clenched his teeth, the hair on the back of his bristled, his tail flicking behind him, and his fists to his side in an open stance to attack. This shadow was consuming everything. Anything! His chest raised and fell as his breaths became deeper and concentrated.
Those students here either need to work together, or there won't be much to defend here. He glanced around to see who was actually looking at the damn thing. Then again it was difficult to not notice considering all the smaller ones had also been consumed.

"COME AT US!" He thundered, challenging the shadow as it stood there with that stupid, unblinking expression.

Miyuki let out a mirthless chuckle at Kattarina's words. She had just been thinking the same thing herself. "I should have taken the invitation to visit my mother..." Miyuki muttered, as she resisted the urge to smack the other girl with her parasol. Really, couldn't this girl take the hint about Miyuki's preference in name? "My name is Miyuki. Only my friends call me by any other name." Her reprimand faded off though as she felt the atmosphere shifting. Slowing, she straightened, her gaze moving about warily as the shadows dissipated. The buzzing sound that ensued caused her to shake her head as she strained to make out the words. No matter how hard she tried, Miyuki couldn't understand what was being said.
"This can't be good..." Her voice was quiet as she watched the newest creature appear out of a large crater. When Kattarina attacked the monster headlong, Miyuki sighed and gave her bags one last look. That creature, or rather his minions had ruined her day and she was well beyond angry by now. Taking a firmer grip on her parasol, she moved as silently as possible, striking the monster in the side with a vicious jab. Her hit connected but unfortunately so did the creature. Miyuki dodged back, her kimono ripped at the sleeve and her arm throbbing painfully.

Kat rolled her eyes at the formality coming off the ghoul known as Miyuki. She did not see the difference herself and saw no reason to change how she called her mid battle. After all couldn't they discuss this IF and WHEN they survived these creatures? "That is true Yuki.. You should have taken her up on that invitation.. However, I'm still calling you Yuki." She called to the ghoul before taking another leap at the large creature. However only delivering a glancing blow.

Kari surveyed the scene as the shadowlings once again dissipated into nothingness. "This can't be over yet...", she murmured as a sense of foreboding permeated the air. The tense silence didn't last long, as a crater took over a good portion of the ground that made up the Maul. From it, a grotesque black figure emerged, its yellow eyes seeming to stare into the distance.
"Well... looks like the big baddie finally decided to join the party", she chimed nervously, trying to hide how small she felt standing before the towering creature. "It's time to show it what we're made of, everyone!" The ghoul cried, charging towards the behemoth.
Kari managed to land a hit. It may not have been much, but hopefully it would be the start of something bigger.

Uru lunged forth with a mighty hammering blow, the best he could muster given the injuries. Only to be blown back by a dark retaliating attack, sending the canine back onto solid ground with a hard thud and a grunt.
