No... This time the Voice lacked the strong voice he had once knew. The prideful voice. It was pleading now, pleading with a boy who's heart and soul was as empty as a reflection in a mirror. It's promises were hollow too. A part of him wanted to say okay. He could return to how things were, the oblivious state of knowing nothing... A fantasy. But he couldn't accept now. It could have been forever. Was the Voice gone for good? Did this tower go on forever, or would it collapse under his feet before he made it to the top? The Voice rang suddenly. Amusing almost, Kiwi realized, that it could speak to its pleasure while he himself was mute. He attempted to drown out it's nonsense with thoughts of his friends, of reality, of their home back on the Reserve. But it struck him that the Voice seemed to be louder this time, and strangely less collected.
A small smile touched his lips as he climbed higher.

An astonishing four steps later, Kiwi was caught short by what he thought to be a shadow, when he realized it was a figment passing up the tower.
His eyes darkened a bit, fan waving an even tempo as he continued.
