Gene just kind of stared at Xiu for a second, jaw on the floor. She...wanted to open a Cafe' too? AND SHE COULD BAKE?
Dude...duuuude. Her eyes lit up, and a plan was already coming together. "R-really?! I've already started my own coffee roasting brand...and I make really good sandwitches, according to a few boils."
Desserts, coffee, tea, and sadwitches. That was all they needed for a cafe', right? Right.
She was so lost in the conversation, she had no clue what she was doing with her icing, and ended up with a cement like topping. Whoops.

Xiu was having the exact same thoughts as Gene. She made tea and baked things...and Gene made coffee and sandwitches...
...
W-was this a perfect combination or what!? Suddenly looking anxious, Xiu clutched the clipboard tightly to her chest, her tail making little wags behind her as she looked at the ghost ghoul almost shyly. "I uh...I was thinking...I mean, while I was excited about the idea of running a cafe, I was always a little nervous too. I'm not so confident in...running a business alone, you know?"

Gene was clutching her own hands in front of her chest as well, giving Xiu a very excited face. Oh Jack! Jack this was great! A business partner! She was nearly squealing as she threw sprinkles and things onto the cupcake, not really caring about the pastry anymore.
"Call me later, okay?! We'll talk more about this, but oh Jack this is great!"

The smell of something warm and sweet beckoned Taima down the hall, prompting her to peer into each and every room until she found the source of it. Hmm, baking club...Taima was horrible at baking, but she liked to eat spookies. That had to count for something, right? Maybe if she joined, she'd learn how to do it right better, and her spookies would actually be edible instead of a substitute for charcoal. She smiled at Xiu as she added her name to the bottom of the list, then went to inspect one of the counters. She looked over all the different batter recipes, finally settling on a simple vanilla one, and mixed the ingredients as instructed before popping it all in the oven.
Then she waited.
And waited.
And waited maybe just a little too long, because suddenly black smoke was coming out of the oven she had put her cupcakes in. Whoops. Taima threw open the door to the oven, flapping her wings a little to blow the smoke away and revealing some very overbaked baked goods.

Not to be deterred, Taima thought her cupcakes might be okay with the right kind of frosting. Unfortunately, that didn't really end well either, and what she wound up with instead only accentuated the burnt state of her cupcakes.

Maybe if she tossed on some sprinkles...? Taima reached for a container full of brightly colored sprinkles, dropping some on top of her burnt cupcakes haphazardly. It was too late, the damage had been done the moment Taima decided to try her hand once more at baking. Reluctantly, she put her creations monstrosities on a plate and set it in front of the baku. "Please don't eat these," Taima said. "I don't want to be responsible for sending anyone to the nurse's office."

Something smelled delicious. Thackery followed the sweet scent until he found the Baking Club's booth, filled with yummy ingredients and other students busily working on their own creations. Xiu was nearby with a sign-up sheet -- and when it sunk in that it was a sign up sheet, he couldn't put his name down fast enough. "Hi Xiu! I can't remember if I signed up before or not, but I really wanna bake stuff with you guys when you do club things. So I'm gonna put my name down, just in case!" He signed his name with such excitement that it was almost illegible. Good thing he'd narrated his whole signing adventure. "Also, um, I haven't really seen you since the um...a few weeks ago, but I wanted to say thank you."

Smiling, Mort took the sign up sheet form Xiu with a nod and scrawled his name in. Why not. He would be the slowest learner surely, but at least he'd have something to do in his downtime that wasn't more work (school-issued or self-issued). Plus ghouls always liked a man who could cook, right?
So he rolled up his sleeves and attempted to make some vanilla cupcakes, because his second time couldn't be worse, right? Experience was suppose to get him better results -
- . . . Wait why were they all melting. Why were they still soggy. What.

Okay okay, uhhh . . . Icing! He could try to wait while the cupcakes solidified or whatever and do the icing! Last time they had become difficult and hard to mix, so this time Mort made sure to stick in enough ingredients to keep it smooth.
. . . Perhaps a little too much though. "Ffffff-" If it wasn't one extreme, it had to be the other? ;A; WHY WAS COOKING SO HARD?

Xiu was clearly just as excited as Gene, and it was hard for her to resist the urge to bounce on the spot in glee. A business partner for a cafe! Suddenly her goal--their goal, now--seemed a little more in reach. "Yes, I'll be sure to call you so we can discuss this in more detail later!"
Until then, she still had a club event to run! Taking a keep breath to calm herself, she turned to greet Taima with a bright smile, a smile that only grew when the thunderbird ghoul jotted her name down on the sign-up sheet. She took care to remain unobtrusive when the ghoul went to bake--most people, she knew, focused better when they didn't have someone hovering over their shoulders--and looked up only when the finished products were brought to her.
The cheerful expression never left Xiu's face as she turned to face Taima, laughing. "Aw, don't say that! I don't think it was a bad attempt! Just a little less time in the oven and a little less liquid in the icing, and your cupcakes will be perfect!"
Her expression then changed into one of curiosity as a familiar voice reached her ears. Ah, could that be...? "Thackery!" She beamed brightly at the boil, waving her tail slightly, "Thanks for signing up! I'm really glad to have you join."
Her smiled faded into something a little softer then, and she lifted a hand to give a dismissive wave. "No, don't worry about it. I'm just glad that you're safe and sound."Face your demons [[ <33 Sent! I sent you an ungrown one, but please lemme know if you'd like the grown one instead! ]]

So the cupcakes were now made of gooey vanilla batter, and the icing was pretty much liquified. Ho boil.
There wasn't much he could do with this mess, so he just swirled the glaze-like toppings around each liquidy cupcake and sighed when it was all said and done. Jack he sucked.
"Uh . . . Yeah, m'gonna need a tutor for club," he mumbled with embarrassment to the baku. "Or two. Or five."

Mort's first batch of cupcakes had turned out overbaked with glaze-like icing, and this time...the exact opposite!? Reaching out, the baku gave her friend a reassuring pat on the shoulder, offering him a small smile. "Don't worry about it, Mort. Junko and I will be there to help you! It just takes a little time and practice, is all!"
...Unless you were some kind of crazy natural master baker, in the case of Alex.
"Everyone's in the club to learn and have fun, so don't be too hard on yourself."
