"Are you friendly with the subject?" she replied in response, the same sort of lack of inflection present as before. Something about the way she said it, however, suggested she herself wasn't. Which, naturally, made Deryk her core analyst, because if she was reading the signs right (see: summoning her at all when Amrita had asked,) Deryk seemed to at least have a relatively decent relationship with the undead girl. However, there was something about the way Deryk seemed unsure that gave her pause, searching his expression with a long, probably unsettling stare before Amrita's voice permeated the silence, drawing her attention back to the observation window.
Amrita's smile did not touch her eyes. Nor did it coax one from Petra. Glancing back at Deryk, she went to the door without another word, lifting her cellphone to indicate to him she'd keep him informed.

"Ah..." The mermaid shied away more now...going to where Mei was instead since Yin and Zar and Amrita had found acceptable people to.."walk" with.
The mermaid on the other hand was wearing thin in the calm department and with so many hunters in one area? She just didn't feel comfortable with anyone.

Truthfully, Wash had been planning to go back to his room and sleep off the rest of the early afternoon. The labs weren't very big, and so the trickle of people headed that way to see the freak show would make more than a crowd. Plus, getting blasted out of a golem always left him feeling drained and a little inept.
It was when he noticed one or two of the creatures ambling care-freely about campus, following their hunter-partners like ducklings, that he decided to investigate. Wash was somewhat bewildered, to say the least. He ducked his head in, catching a few snatches of conversation here and there - something about 'walkies'? Weird. He knew some of the techs tended to the minipets with the same sort of general disregard. He glanced at the few Halloweeners who had either remained or returned in the room.
They were monsters, sure, but they looked so...young. It made him feel almost protective; a confusing mix of emotions at best.
Wash knew one thing, though - he suddenly and with a great amount of certainty decided he didn't want anything to do with this little project. It put a bad taste in his mouth. I mean... they didn't look sinister; they looked scared. Would it hurt, to be turned into a weapon? For some reason it didn't occur to the suddenly uncertain man that his own Sally was once one of them. An indignant huff at his train of thought, however, clued him in to her suddenly darkening mood. What had he done this time? He pushed it to the back of his mind.
Wash figeted uncomfortably, shifting from foot to foot, and pretended to peruse the list they'd been given. He glanced around covertly for a friendly face; maybe someone could reassure him this wasn't Guantanamo Bay for Teens.

Ami got frustrated and set her clipboard down quietly, a sort of seething aura coming from her. What the ******** had she said wrong? Was the mermaid really that afraid of questions?
< Maybe you need to calm down before you do all this. > Junpei offered helpfully.
Maybe you need to feed me better advice next time. I bet it was your damn clans comment.
< You did the talking. >
Ami got up from the microphone and went to stand near the back and just watch for now. She definitely wasn't going to talk to the stupid things now.
< You're being stubborn again. >
Yeah, yeah.

Amphi hesitantly blinked from her spot as she didn't know any of the hunters and then cocked her head when one of a darker color walked in.
For some reason, he didn't seem as terrifying as the others, nor as stern face. Jack, he looked as uncomfortable about the whole situation as Amphi did. Seeing as you know, she was a captive among the enemy. Or the people who were suppose to be the enemy.
He went up to the glass, her face red as she tapped it, attempting to get the man's attention.
"Excuse me...?" She called out softly, "Um...Human with the...um...Moon thingie?" She gestured to his jacket.

Wash very nearly jumped out of his own skin when he heard the glass seperating him and their... prisoners resound with a few faint taps. The soft, feminine voice, however, was what finally got him to turn around -slowly. It was almost as if he could somehow make it better if he just didn't see them, didn't talk to them, because you can't have conversations with a monster- Except this one had a gentle, lilting voice and a pretty face. He gazed at her a second, expression crumbling to reveal a deep well of surprise and dismay before he tried to cover it with a bright and reassuring smile. God, they were so young."Yes ma'am?" He glanced down at the form in his hand, and folded it carefully, sticking it in his pocket. Name of weapons candidate. So cold. So clinical; although he supposed he shouldn't be surprised. He glanced back up - and realized he was being rude. "Oh, where are my manners? My name is Washington, but most people 'round here call me Wash." Wash tried to keep his voice low and pleasant. No need to upset anyone further. Was he talking loud enough for the mic? He wasn't sure. It felt like trying to talk to a tiger at the zoo- but with the slightly disturbing quality that this tiger talked back. "Can I, well, miss, did you need something?" It was an awkward question, but he didn't really know what else to say.

Oh! he had such a nice sounding voice, and now overly facading or anything of the sort. She cocked her head and gave him a gentle smile.
"It's nice to meet you Wash, My name is Amphitrite...But most call me Amphi for short." She flushed, "Um..What is a Ma'am?" She asked curiously, not use to the word. She blinked at the mic's volume, unsure if he was being loud or if her ear fins were being overly sensitive.
"Nothing in particular I suppose, but since there are many of you and few of us, I thought I would at least try to attempt to talk to you." She bit her lip nervously, "And you don't seem as scary as some of the...um...hunters I have met." She wasn't sure what to do now, but at least talking to him was putting the mermaid at ease.
She guiltily thought of Roch for a moment before focusing back on Wash.
"Wash, Do you like being a hunter?" The mermaid chewed on her lip now.

As she spoke, he felt increasingly conflicted. These weren't the crazed rantings or cruel whispers of some hellbeast. She seemed reasonable, if a bit nervous, well spoken and very direct. An admirable young lady, and handling the rather untenable position she was in with poise and grace. It was somewhat refreshing, actually, considering how many high-maintenance personalities they had living at Deus. Not scary, huh? Wash grinned good naturedly, because it was probably true. Here he had been, standing in the labs like a duck out of water... "Ma'am is a, uh. It's a polite way of addressing young ladies whose name you don't know, Miss Amphi." He didn't try for her full name - it sounded like a mouthful. Her next question caught him off guard, however, and he paused for a lengthy amount of time, giving it the consideration it deserved. After all, it was something he asked himself on many a sleepless night. And it was an innocent question - one he felt he could answer without cause for concern. "It's alright, most days, I suppose. I have friends here. There are the bad days, too, though, you know?" She probably was very familiar with bad days, and he felt guilty for bringing it up, so he rushed on in earnest. "We all had our reasons for coming here, I think." He paused again, more briefly. Was he really being honest with himself? The least he could do for the poor girl was offer honesty, insofar as he was allowed. "But to answer your question - no, but I don't think that's what it's about. I don't think anyone would want to-" he hesitated, uncertain of their limits, and continued cautiously, "give up what we did to become who we are. To go through what we've been through. It's a burden, a sacrifice. Only sometimes is it an honor." "But you know," he added in a more lighthearted tone, "I suppose if no one dug ditches, everyone would be standing around in water." This was a slightly uncomfortable topic, so he finished with a question. "How did you and your, uh, friends, end up in this place?" He indicated not just the building, but the grounds. He supposed it'd be a lot faster than having to ask the other hunters about it, and besides, he wanted to hear her side. He felt he owed them, the kids behind the glass, that much. A sympathetic ear.

Amphi found herself relaxing as the hunter grinned, eased into a smile with him as she listened to him speak. It wasn't as if his voice seemed harsh, nice even. Deeper then most of the boils she knew back at home.
"I see." She cocked her head, "You don't find it odd to call...um...A halloween creature something that seems like a term reserved for respectable humans?" She blinked at his politeness and her smiled bloomed even more, clearly reaching a higher state of relaxation.
"It's very important to have friends!" the mermaid's head bobbed up and down, "I have a lot of friends back at home, I kinda of miss them even though we haven't been apart long. And some of my friends are here with me." She waved to the other students. "And yes, There must be many bad days..." Aka all the attacks on Halloween, horsemen isles, this raid here now and now the captive students.
"So you guys were given a choice to be hunters? It was not forced on you?" The mermaid contemplated the idea that some of the hunters were just like the students, making choices because they had too.
"I can't understand the idea of doing something you don't like...because you have to. But then again, I've never been faced with that kind of situation. Even now, I am surprised at myself for talking at ease with a hunter when I could possibly die at any misstep..." She smiled sadly at that though, "I suppose..."
She blinked then, now confused by his statement. "Water is not bad to stand in! Or swim in for that matter!" She was a mermaid, she should know!
Her face fell as she thought of how they were captured and bit her lip again...should she tell him the whole truth? Somehow she didn't think telling a hunter about Medea's trance and being led to the lake would be something to share. So she didn't lie, just didn't...tell it all.
"We were exploring and happened upon a lake underground. It was frozen over-" Sad day for the mermaid, "And when I touched it, I was electrocuted. Then the hunters came in your...um fake student bodies and fighting and...nets and now we are here. I am not sure why it is just us six though..."

Deryk had lingered around after Amrita left with Petra, looking over the ones that were still in the room. He was thinking of heading back in the meantime, but the conversation between Wash and one of the girls had caught his attention. It sounded like he wasn't the only one who was having a bit of trouble with what they did around here. Glancing down and away, he didn't say anything. Instead, he just walked out for now. This wasn't something he wanted to think about right now.

Wash frowned a little, and shook his head. "You know we have a saying where I come from- innocent until proven guilty. You haven't done anything to deserve being treated like, well, like a bad person." A monster, he thought to himself. It was nicely ironic. He let it go, however, more interested in hearing what the girl had to say. Important to have friends, huh? That was - well, that was really sweet. He found himself rooting for her, just a little. Leaving people behind was always hard- he knew how that felt. "Yeah, it's tough, being away from home, you know," he remarked, more to himself than to her. "But at least you know they're out there, somewhere, right? They're safe. They're probably thinking about you." God, were they all like this? So young, so seemingly innocent? Dear God, he prayed silently, help me understand. Is this what we're meant to do? Is this right? There was no column of light, no break in the heavens. No message from a disembodied voice- but he felt calmer. He answered her next question with eyes that were not quite as filled with self-doubt. "Yeah, you could say that. We had a choice, but it wasn't much of one, really. Live in fear, or fight back -uh. I apologize miss, that was a little frank. What I mean to say is, a lot of us saw this...opportunity as a lifeline, a chance to make things right. I don't think any of us really knew what we'd be getting into, but then, who does?" "Die?" He looked into those big baby blues, and he couldn't help but shudder. Sure, on a battlefield, where everything was just a shape, where there weren't people, just the enemy and those that were not... But not here. Not in cold blood. They were their guests, for crying out loud. "I won't let anything happen to you," he promised foolishly. After all, they were to be kept safe, right? It was okay, they would all be okay. They'd been so co-operative. Weaponization wasn't the same as dying, was it? He pushed the thought away. The water comment left him bewildered, but not in a bad way. It was a welcome change of subject. "It was just a, uh, saying, yenknow, um..." Wash thought hard, trying to figure out how to explain in terms that didn't involve concepts like sea level and flood plains. "Where I come from, it's mostly swamp, so like, when it rains, we often get floods if the area isn't well drained. I like water 'n all, I even was on the swim team in high school. I just don't like it when it's in my house. It sort of ruins the carpet, haha." Not to mention the mold. He fell silent again though, as she launched tentatively into the tale of their capture. Wash's expression quickly turned from polite, interested regard, to a slow and creeping horror. They electrocuted them? Well, a stun gun was better than- he had a horrible visual of Jerry's shoulder cannon - than the alternative. Fake student bodies? Oh, the golems. God help me, he thought suddenly. We captured a bunch of kids. We just kidnapped a bunch of juveniles, and stuck them in a glass box with no food, no water no...Sally remained silent and austere throughout the girl's tale. She interrupted his train of thoughts now, though her words were not very reassuring. She's scared, you idiot. Don't just stand there staring. Keep talking. Help her, Those last words came sluggish and unbidden. "That sounds horrible," he said with feeling. "I'm sorry we couldn't have met in...better circumstances. You've been very brave, you know." He wasn't sure what had sparked Deus's interest in these six either- he had a sinking feeling that it had been more a lottery than a conscious choice. Take who they could get, sort of thing. His heart felt heavy, though, and a steady ebbing tide of guilt washed over him. He might not have been directly responsible for what was happening to these...kids, but he was letting it happen.

"Those are odd thoughts for someone who....partakes in the...um do you call them missions? To our world to hunt us." She was becoming curiouser with this hunter. He wasn't bad, in fact....he was quite the opposite.
Forever she had been on the edge of not sure who to trust, Horsemen had caused a scene and then, Hunters were being so kind. It was confusing and troubling to the mermaid. Humans who hesitated and gave the benefit of the doubt?
"It's true. I just started dating my boilfriend before I was brought here." her ear fins drooped, "I am more glad that he doesn't have to be here, that he is safe at home. But at least I now know...We really are the only students here." She smiled sadly now. She would never wish to inflict hunters on any student but knowing it was this group...well...
"I hope they're not too worried....Roch....He might be really upset though..." She hugged herself, "And Danny, Lizzy and Xiu...Thana and False..." Her heart broke a little. Would she never see them again?
She focused again back on Wash and cocked her head. "That admirable too..." She didn't know why but she had a little respect for the hunter who would rather fight then be nagged with fear all his life. Even if her kind were the one to cause it. "I'm not very brave like that, I didn't want to fight hunters..."
She smiled at his words of protection and laid her hand on the glass, tapping it. "I won't have to worry then? Am I allowed to rely on you that Wash?" If he protected her, she do her jack damn best to make sure he was protected as well!
"Ah swamps!" The mermaid seemed to light up, "Please tell me more about your homes! Besides the flooding! And That must be exciting. We have a...er...Swim team for our school! I thought about joining but I think it would be silly. I am a mermaid so I am more adapted for water sports." She laced her hands together, "If you were not there for the Lake, Then you don't have to worry. Your um...fake bodies crumbled easily on the more battling side of things." She didn't give into the small satisfaction of that.
The mermaid was not sure why again, the ease of talking to Wash was ebbing away her fear of the place. To know that there was hunters who didn't want to see them hurt....It was like that in Halloween too. Some students didn't want humans to be hurt. Amphi didn't want THIS one too. The one with the big scythe though could die in a ditch for all she cared though.

Dakota grinned as he strolled in, wondering what kind of little creatures the Island added to their collection of misfits. He was surprised to see that the three that were in there....all girls. Well...Maybe all girls.
He stared at Israfel unsure but...His grin only widened as he saw Wash talking to a mermaid...oh man the mermaid he wanted from the Lake! he almost interuppted them but the other girl...she just looked so lonely dealing with Gale.
Heading over to them, He placed his elbow on Gale's shoulder and gave a smile to the broken doll.
"Hey there pieces Babe. Enjoying your stay in Dues?" Dakota looks like this MOFO
