The look on Cass's face was just downtrodden when she was informed that things were getting worse on top of the fact that they were..y'know... Mists in a house in the town and full of death in their gut.

Joy. Still, it was good motivation to get Cass a bit more walking. "I'm heading up the stairs to see if there are any windows that need to be barred up." she said as she moved to the staircase, heading up the steps while holding onto the handrail as though it was a lifeline.

She took the first room she could open the door to and made a point of, with what sounded like great struggle, pushing furniture over to the windows to start blocking them.

Slowly, awkwardly, Syd got to her knees, then her feet, wobbling slightly and wincing in pain with each step. It was only her ideal of being a wonderful mist acting as an awesome moon that had her moving at all. So she went to work, shoving the heaviest objects she could find into place, using her weight to move them because she didn't have the physical strength at the moment.

And she did a pretty darn good job of it, too. Bookcases got shoved, chairs got propped under doors, and Izy went on with his perverted magical wand story. She swore she would never think of magic cloaks in the same way again.

(Syd is acting Moon, so +1 to each dice)

They just couldn't catch a ******** break, could they? ********. She moved as quickly as her body would allow, locking windows and doors since everyone else had the furniture handled. They could do this. They could hold out. They'd be fine.

Feng paused in making rounds with water and painkillers, blinking at Aria. Especially him? Oh right. He was the only one in the room not doubled over in pain. Did Aria really want to depend on Feng to help save the day? His bets were on no, but he was going to try anyways.

At least he had his strength. He manage to force a heavy chair into place, adding to the already building defenses, and moved next to a book case. Anything that had some sort of substantial mass to it was moved to barricade doors and windows. Shang's only input was to tell Feng where the furniture would work best, and the hunter didn't question the knowledge. He just shuffled it into place and moved on.

Aria smirked as she caught Marcus' lament. "It happens. Besides, given the condition of the island right now they'd probably do you more harm than good. Runics needs to be recharged, after all," she reminded, moving aside to assist the Moon trainee in fortifying the defenses.

With that accomplished, Aria did a quick look-through. Cass? Upstairs. Syd? Aria gave her a passing pat on the shoulder, nodding approvingly to the chairs wedged under doors. Hopefully none of the Insanity-creatures considered the windows. A quick glance confirmed that the curtains were still closed and drawn tight. Were the creatures intelligent enough to know the difference? Hopefully not, but that would require them to be smart enough to know to come through the door in the first place.

Candace? Checking that the windows and doors were locked. And looking like hell. But we all are, aren't we? Aria thought as she stopped in front of a mirror. She leaned forward towards it as if attempting to peer into its reflective depths, rubbing the side of her cheek. Her face was pale complete with dark circles under her eyes. Those were nothing new. A full night of uninterrupted sleep was a luxury that she didn't have lately. If it wasn't a nightmare waking her up, it was a hunter being too loud in the middle of the goddamn barracks.

At least they had the main building back. Her office wasn't the most comfortable of places, but it was infinitely better than the barracks. She had considered the Mist Lounge and taking over a couch there, and yet...

Symphony interjected.

Not now. Aria drew back from the mirror, turning sharply. Considering his current situation is a lot better than any other, I highly suspect the Mist Lounge has picked up several couch surfers. Too many people, too many strangers, too much noise.

To her relief, Symphony did not pursue the subject. Aria stopped to check in on Molly, giving her shoulder another brief squeeze before moving on. Feng seemed to be doing well enough; Aria moved to assist him moving the bookcase until it was placed in front of the window, reinforcing the glass there. Aria hoped nothing would come through it -- that would be a b***h and a half to replace.

The division leader climbed the stairs, checking in on the rooms. Were there any reports of flying monsters? Right, phoenixes. With luck none of them would show up here. Aria shoved that thought aside as she assisted Cass with pushing the heavier furniture up in front of the windows. They were nearly done when a glance outside the window revealed a world outside full of dark gray fog with shapes moving around in them. "Get ready," Aria warned, "Looks like the party's about to start. Don't be tempted to open the window and fire, either. In your current condition, opening a window might just let'em in and overwhelm you."

There was no sound, no warning blare of a horn or crackling of static to announce the presence of the Insanity creatures. The only indication that they were there was the dimming of the light. The silence seemed deafening as the Mists hurried about, readying their defenses as best as they could.

And then they attacked.

It sounded like rain. The small, pitter-patter of thumps and thuds against the side of the house as the fog swept in. Thankfully, no glass was broken and nothing got in.

"It always starts with the littles," Aria groaned as she came back down the stairs, glancing at the door. "Always the smaller ones that get progressively stronger. It's --" A loud THUMP! against the wall interrupted her, ratting the pictures of the house's former occupant enough to fall to the ground and crash. Aria sighed. "Of course. Mind the glass, girls." A pause. "And guys. There's no telling how long we'll be, so we might as well get comfortable. And ready to defend ourselves in case anything gets in."

Cass's only comment on the grey shapes outside the window had been, "Whelp, guess we're starring in 'The Mist' now." Which was sort of meant to be a double-joke, but it was also somewhat serious too. Never the less, she was happy enough to fall back with the rest of the group to hope everything would stay out as much as possible.

"To be honest," she half flinched, wrapping her arms around her stomach with a small whine, "I don't think I have clear enough of a head to aim right now." she confessed. Walking around and toughing it out was helping a bit, but later when she curled up with Marcus to sleep it would be painful to lay there.

The sound of things patting against the house like a small rainfall sent a flash of memories of similar noises - less pleasant noises - through her head. Her brows knitted together just barely as she walked over to slip her hand into Marcus's, squeezing it. Not out of fear she felt right then, but the bad memories that could cripple years later.

"I think what we need to get, in case of future instances, are installations for just these sorts of things." Cass suggested, "Y'know...so we don't have to move furniture every time."

Syd wouldn't let herself sit down--not just yet. When she was done with one more round of blocking, she would. Then she would deal with the all-encompassing pain that was threatening to blind her. She didn't even bother to speak as she went from door to door one last time, trying her best to reinforce them more.

This time she wedged towels in door frames and anything that wasn't bolted to the walls in front of the doors. She was SERIOUS about being a fill in moon--

That and Izy had gotten to the really horrible part of the plot he was making up, and working made it look like she was red from the work instead of her weapon.

Marcus still would have liked to have the daggers on hand. They were comforting. Sort of like knowing you had an oreo in your lunchbag even though you actually forgot you sandwich. It wasn't super helpful, but it helped a little with your hunger and it was nice.

As Cass came back to slip her hand in his, he returned the squeeze, giving he a side glance before nodding, squeezing tighter. He wasn't about to go anywhere. "We'll be okay." It was said more for her sake then anything. "When we're done here you can help me pick out a few things." He wasn't going to say what but... he'd let her figure it out. She probably could guess anyway.

The main ways in were covered, but the windows... not much to do. "I'll cover the stairs in case... anything breaks in from above." He grunted, pausing mid step before moving. It felt like daggers were sticking into him, and Dis, while comforting, was not much help.
This isn't something I can control. Consider it a reason why you would do well to not go into the sun division. Aside from the high mortality rate. And Allan.

After she had checked all of the locks and all of the windows and doors, Candace settled downstairs against a wall. She was massaging at her abdomen with a soft wince of pain, biting down on her lip. It wasn't getting any better. It still hurt so bad. The pitter-patter did sound like rain, something that would normally be a nice comfort were it not for the knowledge that it wasn't rain it was actually an onslaught of Insanity creatures. She looked up and watched Aria as the leader made her return, nodding her head in understanding. What else was there to move? The appliances in the kitchen?

The picture beside Candace fell and she cursed, stumbling away from the shards of glass and closer to the rest of the group. "Cass is right. About the installations. Maybe Clarice?" Whenever she saw Clarice the Life assistant was always making some kind of program on her computer. She'd know what to do, right? Plus, she seemed to like Aria. Surely she'd be happy to help the Mists..right? She hoped so.

"Stand down. Find a comfortable spot, but keep your weapon on hand just in case. Use something to prop your gun against, and if you're unsure of yourself don't point it at anyone," Aria advised Cass, half-leaning and half-sitting on the arm of the couch herself. "I wouldn't mind getting some steel security shutters that could be pulled down over the windows, or something to reinforce the door. Even with those, I'm worried about the walls." Aria gestured towards them, "I don't know what's in the walls or how durable they are. For all we know, they could have been built out of wooden frames."

And it would be just their luck if one of the Insanity creatures came barreling through said wall. Aria hoped that the creatures were sentient enough to realize that the windows and doors looked to be the easiest thing to break through. Could she knock out a wall and reinforce it with something? How much would it cost? Could -- Focus, Aria, she chided, tightening the grip on her weapon.

As Syd reinforced the settings, Aria reached out to grab her arm as she passed. Her eyes narrowed, looking the trainee from bottom to top. "Are you sure you're not a Moon?" She joked, prompting the trainee to turn in order to double-check the emblem on her back. After making sure the golden swirls of Mist were still present, the division leader clapped the trainee on the shoulder. "Good work. Take a break."

The drumming got louder. Aria's voice grew louder to compete with it. Keep them calm. Keep them focused. We've got this. We can do this. "Clarice might, once she's available. She knows a lot about security and is possibly the best person to talk to in regards to it. I don't think she can prevent something from ever flattening this house, but once she's done with it I suspect the frame will still be standing along with whatever she's installed. The alternative is to check with Edith -- that's the Moon lead -- and see if she knows anyone in her division that's good with defense to make suggestions we can use."

"I... um," Syd flushed brightly, then sat down next to the nearest wall, leaning back. "Izy was... um..." Then she shrugged, because there was no way she could explain how embarrassing it was to have your weapon make up the most ridiculous wizard romance story you've ever heard, and know that it was based on YOUR memories of favorite books.

Instead she hugged her tummy, once again focusing on the pain--until Izy started going again.

<"That's the biggest magical wand I've ever seen," Stacey purred-->

"Stacey? Harry's cheating on Susy now?" Syd asked, her eyes wide.

She... had just said that aloud, hadn't she?

OTL.

"That...that is a super-duper smart plan. I..I'll go do that."

Cass looked to the windows uncertainly, then the door. Okay, she was right. All she could do at this point in time was buckle in and prepare herself for a fight. Most of the furniture was moved around to make way for the fact that things were descending upon the house, but there were a few things she hadn't actually been able to move.

Like the island in the kitchen. She squeezed Marcus's hand one last time before she hobbled into said kitchen, half leaning back against the floating-counter (well, in terms of it's connections to the wall) and half laying across the top of it. It wasn't exactly the best location, but it was a good support with her gun.

Oh, she was so happy she wouldn't have to like...
...
...

Swing a sword around. She was so happy for a convenient weapon that just adapted with things.

I love you too.
