Alex yawned as he woke up. Jenkins was sitting on his chest with a tiny bit of ribbon in his mouth. Where it came from Alex had no idea, but it seemed that Lin and Duskie didn't so anything like whatever Jenkins had done but they were close by. As Alex wanted to get the pokemon ready for the gym just to say that he had a badge and cause it would impress his parents. That meant going back out to Route 1, 2, or 3. He'd start with Route 1 obviously.
As he got out to the route he was there for only a half a minute or so, but something hopped out of the bushes and Jenkins and Duskie stared at it and it stared back at them. Lin looked back and forth between the two as the two dogs started growling at it. Neither of the dogs or the wild pokemon did anything until Alex looked at it with the pokedex. It was a Skitty and as soon as the pokedex said that the two dogs bolted after the pokemon like their lives depended on it.
The Skitty ran as fast as it could be it couldn't avoid both of the pokemon for more then a few seconds. Alex did give it a bit of a break when he hit it with a pokeball and trapped it in there for a few seconds, but it broke out and was then double teamed by both of the dog pokemon tackling it at the same time knocking it out. "Guess I shouldn't try and catch a Skitty then he said to Lin as she looked at him.

(( I admit it's just nice to have someone else around. I enjoy reading other people's posts, and well, then I won't get into trouble for post stacking or looking like I'm grinding. Eh heh ... )) Nolan again ducked as the bird swooped again to peck him, but at least he felt safer on the ground. Snivy was just watching, but she was really attempting to get a bead on the swift flyer. Nincada was out for the count, and Nolan doubted that Shinx really knew what was going on here, since the little Flash pokemon was just hopping about happily. Shinx managed to glow a little, but beyond that? No spark, no electricity, no nothing. And Nolan's head was really starting to hurt from that Taillow's beak rapping on his skull. Waving his arms didn't really help, but it finally got the Magikarp's attention that the fish should help. Dosu had been just hanging out, flopped on his side, and thinking about mostly nothing at all. But that was all Dosu needed to know HE was needed! Flicking his fins, he spun up into the air, and smacked the bird hard enough to throw it off its course. Shinx took the opportunity and jumped up with a Tackle. Nolan halted Snivy with a hand, wanting Shinx to learn to fight solo. Taillow fluttered around, squawking, and now all its aggression was aimed at Shinx, but that's all Shinx needed to Tackle it again. This time the cub pounced and pinned the furiously struggling bird to the ground. Nolan wanted a flying pokemon, right? Scrambling for his bag, he threw the empty pokeball just as Taillow got free, but it was a direct hit. Catching pokemon was pretty easy ... Checking on the information about Taillow finally, it took Nolan a few minutes to notice that Nincada hadn't recovered from the pecks. The Trainee pokemon hadn't budged from where he fell on his back from the trunk, legs twitching now and again. "Oh! Oh no, Nincada!" Rushing over to his pokemon, the pokeball with Taillow was dropped in the grass, and Nolan fretted uselessly over Nincada, trying to bring the bug back around. But then it dawned on him to just use a potion! Snivy was there though, blocking Nolan from the bag, shaking her head no. Nincada had been knocked out, it would take more than just a potion to get him back up. Snivy had to smack away Nolan's hand a few times, until she right-out used a Vine Whip on his arm, making him recoil back. Nolan rubbed his arm, flinching, but now he hurriedly got to his feet, given Snivy a frightened look. She had disobeyed him before, and now she attacked him. The Grass Snake huffed in irritation, but both she and Nincada were recalled to their pokeballs. While he was at it, Dosu too. Which just left Shinx, and not knowing any better, Shinx wanted praise for doing so well, looking for Nolan's approval with the battle with the bird. Nolan just picked up Taillow's pokeball and put it with the others, and his sober mood even was getting to the Flash pokemon. Shinx's ears and tail wilted, but he followed in the human's footsteps while they walked towards Blyse. It didn't take too long for them to come across another trainer, and this one Nolan recognized from before. Thoughts of the Dragonite crossed his mind, but it wasn't so bad seeing Alex again. At least if this trainer was still around Route 1, it meant that Nolan wasn't being left behind on just his second day - as strange of a worry as that really was. But he offered a wave and a hello to Alex, except there was something nagging on his mind. Nolan walked up, but stopped a little short seeing the two dog-like pokemon. Shinx wasn't nearly as shy and bounded right up to Poochyena to bop her on the nose in greeting. Then turned to the Lillipup and yowled at him happily. This cat certainly wasn't scared of a couple of canines. "Err ... sorry, I can't remember your name. I'm Nolan, by the way. I can't really remember either if I said that before. I didn't get a chance to see your pokemon either, but those are ..." Nolan paused as he looked at the Oshawott, hesitating, but he finished with a, "They're neat." Alex was on his way to Route 2 to see what was there when the one guy that watched some of the Dragonite Guy's fight with him came up. "Thanks," Alex said when his pokemon were complimented, "I do have one more but it likes attacking everything that isn't mine." As he was talking the two dog pokemon looked at the Shinx. It looked enough like a Skitty that they wanted to chase it, but enough not like it to not know if they should, and that was part of the reason that they only growled at it trying to make sure that it didn't do anything. When it she was bopped on the nose Duskie barked at it.
It was about then that Alex realized something. It was rather early in the morning and they were heading in opposite directions. "Did you sleep out here last night? Your bag doesn't look like it has enough stuff to be out overnight." When it looked like Duskie was about to attempt to tackle the Shinx Lin walked over and sat on its back to keep it from doing that.

Elite Four Max has appeared...
Max wasn't surprised to see him admit defeat and forfeit, at least that was admirable. It had happened a few times when the losing member was just "changing pokemon", then bolted, trying to avoid a loss! Max sighed. That battle was to easy. To easy to be fun. Max returned Galadius to his great ball. "Return..." Then, he grabbed the timer ball and sent out Beast. "Beast, Take me to the Blysse City Pokemon center, please."

Worried for Shinx's safety, Nolan quickly scooped up the cub to keep him out of reach of the two canine pokemon. The Lillipup was no problem, and the otter looking pokemon got Nolan's gratitude for helping stop a fight. It was just, well, that Poochyena was much more serious than Nolan's Shinx, and did not take kindly to the cub's goofy lack of respect about personal space. Shinx didn't mind being picked up at all, thinking this was finally the praise due for when he battled the Taillow, and the Flash pokemon nuzzled up against Nolan's chest. It did bring a little smile to the boy's face, but it didn't really dispel the cloud of gloom forming over his head. Alex was pretty perspective, and then Nolan's rumpled appearance compounded on the fact that he had really be 'roughin' it. It was a night he would rather forget. "Err ... yeah. Two other trainers were there too. On Route 2, and it was far, so I didn't think walking back to Blyse was a good idea that night." Nolan did leave out the specific details about why exactly he didn't have enough time to get to Blyse before nightfall, but after getting a lecture from Graham, Nolan didn't need any more trainers thinking he was anymore foolish than he was. He had a plan now, and he was trying. "I was actually headed back just now, sort of. I'm looking for some more pokemon that can fight against the gym's Flying types. But now my Nincada was injured and ... and ..." Nolan hesitated when he noticed he had started to ramble nervously, but he didn't want to suddenly dump all his worries on a stranger. So he put on a brave face, but his smile was stiff and fake. Covering for it, he dipped his head a little to look at Shinx while he spoke, petting the little lion cub. "So yeah, I'm going to get some more supplies, just to be better prepared. But I really should keep going to heal my pokemon. I'll catch you around?" Awkwardly excusing himself, Nolan waved at Alex, but the fake smile dropped right when he started walking again towards Blyse City. Normally Nolan had a lot more spunk and cheerfulness than this, but it was hard when he was still so tired and sore from last night. It had just been a bad morning too overall. Nolan wished he could be more like Shinx and just not have a real care in the world. Adjusting his bag strap on his shoulder, he tried to keep up the quick pace for Nincada's sake, and also he was keeping an eye out for more pokemon. Shinx cried out at a few Pidgey that were foraging in the tall grass. Nolan checked it out, but honestly, the little bird never really interested him. Beside, he already had one bird pokemon already, right? At least Blyse wasn't that much farther now. SNIVY LV.8 | MAGIKARP LV.8 | SHINX LV.5 | NINCADA LV.6 | TAILLOW LV.4 #ooo30 LOCATION || Route 1. Well, there was finally the outskirts of Blyse. It wasn't quite home, but it was good to see houses and buildings. Nolan even recognized the tree where he had found his Shinx fast asleep under. That had only been yesterday morning, but it already felt like years. It was just nice how quickly Shinx was warming up to him, like they had been old friends all along. But when anyone was as happy and friendly as Shinx, it was incredibly easy to make friends. On a whim, Nolan walked over to the spot and looked around under the shade, peering between the exposed roots. He stopped, surprised, because there was yet another black and blue cub curled up in the nook of the roots. This time, the wild Shinx was wide awake and its yellow eyes were staring at Nolan and his Shinx well before he had first noticed it. Well ... Nolan understood the importance of having a varied and balanced team, but honestly he didn't even know yet what his pokemon's strengths and weaknesses were. And if one Shinx was great, two could be even better, right? It would stack the odds in his favor for his first gym to have another electric pokemon. So his mind made up, even with his supply of pokeballs dwindling dangerously low, Nolan put his Shinx on the ground. "Alright, I hope you don't mind, Shinx, but I really want to win my first badge. Two of you could help me out a lot, so whether or not you really like it, I want you to use your Leer attack!" Nolan's Shinx ... well, he didn't have a single problem with battling his own kind, especially if it meant a new friend. The wild Shinx was less thrilled, but it was an equally fierce fighter, although, its heart didn't really seem to be into it. Shinx was making the harder hits, even though they matched each other for speed and strength. Nolan was feeling a little more comfortable giving his pokemon orders, although, he still worried something was wrong with the wild cub. Right when the time was right, when the wild Shinx was wearing down, Nolan threw the pokeball. Two shakes and it burst out again, ready for more. Although, concerned that the wild pokemon was already too weak, Nolan just threw another empty pokeball. This time, it held. Recovering the first capsule that failed to catch it, he sighed, but also noticed that Shinx's ears were starting to droop. "Okay, that's six. Let's just get to the pokecenter." Six was five more than Nolan thought he could truthfully handle, but if he couldn't, well, he might as well stop trying to be a trainer right now. With new resolve, he recalled his Shinx and walked the last of the distance into town. Nolan had to wait his turn to use the pokecenter's facilities, but the wait was entirely worth it. Never did a shower feel so good before, even if the water stung on his sun-burned back. It was just heavenly to get all that sand off. And while his pokemon were being healed, resting up, Nolan cleaned and sorted all his things in his bag. His clothes being washed in the machine, the nurse there had been kind enough to loan him a bathrobe. But now all the simple things had been taken care of, dressed and clean, after counting out what money he had, Nolan really didn't have enough to buy any more supplies. He wasn't even sure how he was supposed to carry a tent or anything like a sleeping bag, if he could afford them in the first place. Sighing and running his fingers back through his damp hair, Nolan didn't see any other choice but staying near Blyse to train. All six pokeballs snug in his bag, Nolan opened his map again to plot his next move. "Ok, Have fun!" Alex said as Nolan left to head back to Blyse. Alex then started running towards route two but stopped after long enough to not have the other trainer hear him. "That's wasn't nice Duskie," he scolded as he crouched down to look at the pokemon closer. "It just wanted to play, and the trainer wouldn't let it do anything that would hurt you unless he wanted a fight and as it was the only pokemon he had out he was probably just heading to the pokecenter to heal them." Duskie looked to the ground but Alex started petting her and continued, "Now, I can see that you don't like things like Skitty and Shinx but if there's another trainer around who looks like it would be their trainer just try not to do anything like that again ok?" Duskie nodded and that was good enough for Alex. However Jenkins started barking at a patch of grass.
Jenkins practically dove into the grass vanishing from sight rather quickly. Alex hopped up and followed the dog into the grass but couldn't find more then rustling in any direction. "Jenkins!" Alex shouted as he kept looking for whatever it was. Jenkins barked once and started walking over towards Alex so it was rather easy to find him. Alex looked at where the puppy pokemon came from and saw a Ledyba laying on the ground. "Good boy." he said petting the Lillipup.

Nolan was trying to estimate the time it took him to cover the distance from here to the beginning of Route 2, but after a few confusing attempts at creating a workable formula by measuring the map with his fingers, he finally just got frustrated. Folding up the map, he stuffed it back into his bag, but as he did he got a glimpse of the six pokeballs sitting in the inner pocket. Fed up, he dropped his head into his hands, and slowly ran his palms down his face. He took a deep breath. Adjusting his glasses higher up the bridge of his nose, Nolan leaned back on the bench, trying to gather his wits before he melted down. He was just looking around the inside of the pokecenter now, letting his mind sort while he pushed his emotions aside. With a full team of six, Nolan only needed to train them now. Once his two Shinx learned how to do something like Thundershock, he'd take on the gym for his first badge. And then? Well, then he would go to the next town ... Fort Ammoa by the looks of his map, and worry about that gym's type once he got there. Feeling slightly better, Nolan stood with new purpose. For now he wouldn't worry about Nincada and Snivy. He was putting all his chips on his Shinx and the newer Shinx. And Nolan was going to have to come up with nicknames for them soon, because this was getting confusing. Walking outdoors, and because he just simply liked the spot now, Nolan went to the tallest tree nearest Blyse. (No more wild Shinx this time.) Tossing the two pokeballs with his Shinx, Nolan got down on his knees, inspecting each Flash pokemon, trying to find differences in the features between them. It was easy to tell which one was his original Shinx, because that one was glowing with happiness, and the other one was only mildly curious about this human staring at him. But as for physical features? Nolan was wracking his mind for names, and some quick way to tell them apart. No wonder trainers normally didn't catch two of the same kind. This was difficult. (( Rarity, coloration, and Ability. )) Nolan searched his bag for anything he could use - some ribbon, a bit of string, or maybe even just kind of clip, anything just so he could tell the Shinx apart at a glance. But after he had cleaned out his bag when he was in the pokecenter there wasn't even a wrapper left on the bottom. Sitting back on his heels, he stared at the Shinx while the batted at each other curiously, and then his eyes looked up. Well, he couldn't really see it, but he had forgotten about the bandanna on his forehead. His sister said it was to help keep the sweat out of his eyes, so as she said it, he wouldn't get blinded in the middle of a heated battle. Yeah right, Nolan hasn't even so much as broke wind during a battle. Although, his stomach has been doing flips and even it was doing it now while he thought about battling serious trainers. Taking another deep breath, he took off the crimson bandanna and tied it around the neck of his happy-go-lucky Shinx. There, easy now. The cubs started rolling and playing with the bandanna now, and Nolan just wanted to come up with nicknames next. Thinking hard and long, his chin resting on his palm, he didn't budge for at least ten minutes until he was finally satisfied. Picking up his first Shinx, Nolan named him, "How about you be Valor? And our newest buddy can be Honor? My dad always gave the pokemon that came into our Volunteer House very positive nicknames. He told me if you name a pokemon Trouble, you only get trouble. But if you name it something good, you'll only bring out the best. And I want you two to fight valorously and honorably." 'Valor' mewled at Nolan, and he took that as the closest thing to acceptance he was going to get, and 'Honor' seemed to be thinking much more deeply. But when Honor's yellow eyes came back up to Nolan, there wasn't anything that said he wouldn't accept that nickname. The matter settled, Nolan put down the Shinx and started to look up around in the tree - just to make sure another mean Taillow wasn't lurking up there. What he did find was a Spearow, roosting. So climbing the tree would be a bad idea. Which left ... well, maybe the Taillow he caught would have calmed down by now. Only one way to find out. (( Rarity, Coloration, and Ability for the next post. )) 'What happens if a pokemon runs away, or ... flies away?' Doubts rushing through his mind, Nolan pressed the button on the pokeball and tossed it - wincing just like he had thrown some kind of live hand-grenade. The two Shinx called out at the bird as it formed out of the light energy, and Taillow, seeing the two cubs immediately flew to the lowest branch of the tree. But Nolan was right, the Taillow had calmed down, for the most part. When Nolan took a step towards the tree, the Tiny Bird squawked loudly and warbled dangerously. So Nolan took a step backwards. The Taillow began to preen its feathers, but at least she wasn't flying away. It was female, right? Nolan consulted his gear, kind of impressed with the bird already, despite the fact that she was so small. She had Guts. Get it? Guts ... the Ability? Nolan even thought his jokes were lame, but he needed Taillow to be on his side. Sitting down in the grass, crossing his legs, Nolan looked up at the dark blue bird. She was outright ignoring them all, even as the two Shinx made their failed attempts to climb the tree - their small claws not getting quite enough purchase to lift their entire weight. "Hey there, pretty bird. Pretty girl." Taillow turned and glared at Nolan. He certainly wasn't her favorite human right now, especially since he had captured her. Living wild and free was entirely better than being at the beck and call of some human child. Nolan paused to think, but his plan might be crazy enough to actually work. Since he could just tell how lowly this Tiny Bird thought of him, he also noticed that there was no pecking now - not while Nolan was flanked by two Shinx. Feigning a look of indifference, he shrugged and sighed, "Oh well, I guess then I won't train her enough to beat you, Valor." The cub must have just liked hearing his new nickname again, "Iiiinx!" Honor gave them all a funny look, parking his rump in the shade where he had been relaxing before. It worked though, because the Taillow fluttered down the grass and started to cautiously approach, watching Valor the closest of them all. Nolan grabbed the Shinx just as he was about to move to pounce the bird in greeting, but Nolan still pretended to be ignoring the bird otherwise. Taillow turned a critical eye on the human, "Taaai?" It seemed to have worked because Taillow let Nolan pat her head gently, although, her feathers ruffled with irritation. "So shall we get to practice then? Freeze tag is actually a pretty good idea right now." After explaining the rules, and helping Valor a little bit extra, to show him how to tag and freeze when tagged. With examples and everything, soon Nolan was taking cover behind the tree trunk. Taillow was ferocious, zig-zagging after the cubs, and away from them. But learning to time their leaps, still they were able to tag her while she swooped upwards. From: A forced adventure of the unknown. Post 68 Chael appeared once again on route 1. Six Pokemon were behind him, each looking like they could handle a big fight. It was time they got that gym badge and continued on to victory. He walked past Nolan, giving him a glance. He was playing with his Pokemkn and even had two of the same. He wondered why he did, it'd be difficult to tell them apart. Unless he opted to evolve one and not the other. Chael wasn't big on cats so he chose to catch a Blitzle instead. Alex looked over the area from where he was standing near the route 1-2 meeting and tried to see what was where. He knew most of the pokemon around route 1 as he had either caught them, seen them, or heard them when he was walking by and was almost positive that the only thing that would be good against a flying type was a Shinx that Duskie and Jenkins wouldn't like being around, but he didn't know what was on Route 2 so it was possible that he could find something that would help him there.
He decided to go to Route 2 when a Bidoof came out of the grass between Alex and the route. If he knew how to Alex would have raised an eyebrow because it looked like it wanted to stop him from moving. It was possible that it was somehow related to one of the Bidoof that he fought earlier and if so it might be trying to get revenge. Remembering that only Duskie and Lin have been attacking those particular pokemon Alex let the Bidoof choose who would wipe the ground with it. Duskie started growling and it seemed that the pokemon decided that it didn't want anything to do with them and tried running. A quick tackle later and Alex was on his way to route 2.
