Small but loud clicks of Rini's heal went through the hall that connected to the ballroom. With a big smile on her face, Rini trotted past the girls that were hovered around the food, smiling at their confused faces as she reached for the handle to the ballroom door. She opened the door and strode in with so much excitement that she almost squeaked. This place is amazing she thought as she looked around. Her eyes laid on the glass of wine that was offered to her despite how young she looked. A grin appeared on her face as she looked around, making sure that her brother wasn't around to scold her. She reached up and grabbed the glass. "Thank you!" She nodded politely and watched the waitress walk away. She took a sip of the wine and scrunched her nose a bit before shrugging. She wanted to be like everyone else so she would drink it.

She wasn't apart of Winhill or Seed at all but when she found out her brother was going she couldn't resist. She had to come too. Though she arrived without him she wanted to pretend she was everyone else so she was going to pretend she didn't know him. Though he probably thought her little game was silly it would keep her entertained for the rest of the night. Rini's young eyes landed on a boy with blond hair getting yanked by another guy. A grin went on her face and she hopped on over to them with her perky attitude."Hey there! I'm Rini." She introduced herself and held out her hand that wasn't holding the wine glass. The first step to making a friend is introducing yourself.

Ellale had had to wait for Tae's answer, but she didn't seem to mind. She was actually happy to see her close friend in such a good mood again. Tae had been watching her all day, so Ellale rather felt slightly bad about having to be watched knowing full well she wasn't supposed to be moving about. She felt fine though, and so long as she didn't do anything too strenuous, the ball would go without trouble for her. They had company in the elevator, but Everett's brother seemed distracted as Tae answered her question, telling her that they would probably learn something every day. Ellale pondered what she said for a while, closing her eyes as she took it in and tried to determine her own feelings on it. She wasn't getting anything jumping out to her though as she thought on it, and eventually she just let it go. Tae was most likely right, they would probably learn something every day and that would just be how it was. That seemed like a lot to learn to Ellale though.

The elevtaor opened, and Tae held her hand out to Ellale. The girl smiled, taking Tae's hand and following her out into the hallway. Tae seemed intent on eating, which was more than fine for Ellale as she was towed along, simply enjoying following Tae. What would Kalay and Lisanna do? Ellale pondered that for a moment, wondering what miracle had gotten Lisanna to talk Kalay into going to the ball at all. He was such an odd person, even as her brother. She knew very little about him as a SeeD, but trusted him without reserve. Was that how all siblings were? Would Salem and Lisanna be like that someday? Pushing these thoughts away and focusing on the task at hand, Ellale plucked an slice of some fruit from a table and nibbled on it as she followed with Tae. Her body still felt a bit sore, but she figured she was fine for now. So long as she didn't get so sore that it hurt to move, Tae probably wouldn't notice too much which was what she was hoping on.

The pair didn't have to wander around for too long before taking notice of people they knew, making Ellale slightly embarrassed at her holding Tae's hand, but she refused to let it go even as they got closer. Everyone's dresses were so pretty... Nona's red, Sophia's blue, Riyel dressed all nice. Some seemed less than happy though, and Ellale could have sworn she'd seen their partner in the elevator walking off on his own. Ellale caught Sophia's compliment and gave a smiling to her in a friendly manner. "You look lovely too, Sophia." Ellale responded. She wasn't so clueless as to not take note that Sophia seemed uncomfortable around them, which might have been because... well... Ellale glanced at her and Tae's hand before squeezing it faintly. Those whom had been around them rather knew the two had gone to the dance together so holding hands was probably a bit much. Ellale could care less though, she was happy, and no one could make her feel differently. Ellale stepped closer to Tae, wrapping her arm around her friends with a sigh as she relaxed. It might have looked cute, but Tae would know full well Ellale was also using her for support to rest as they stood there just by the amount of weight on her arm.

Lisanna blinked and watched as her brother bowed and began to pack up his things, apparently getting ready to head off on his own. She had rather meant they could all go up together, but perhaps he wanted to be on his own…? She could definitely sense something was off, though he was careful to hide whatever he was feeling. Since she didn’t know him very well she couldn’t tell what was wrong. She couldn’t blame him though, it was a strange situation. ”Uhm, okay…thank you. I hope you enjoy the ball too! I will find you later, I promise.” She smiled and nodded happily. His comment to Kalay made her chuckle softly, as did Kalay’s response. And it was cute to see Carbuncle curled up and sleeping peacefully in the Instructor’s lap, which got a soft look from Lisanna. He woke soon enough though as Salem went into the elevator. It was strange but Lis thought she sensed a slight…dislike…or something, coming from the little GF. How odd. She gave her brother a small wave and turned back to face Kalay, watching as he got up. ”I think that is a good idea. I’m sure your presence is profoundly missed by half the female population of the garden, whom are waiting for you to dance with them.” She teased in reply to his comment about joining the festivities. Lis made her way over to the elevator doors with him and smiled down at Carbuncle, noticing his almost pouting expression and the way he huffed as he wandered through the doors. ”Cheer up, little guy, there’s a party to enjoy!” She said gently, stepping in after him and reaching down to scratch his ears for a moment. When Kalay got in she straightened up and pressed the button for the top floor before slipping her arm though his again. Despite seeming mostly her usual happy self Lis was silent and deep in thought as the elevator steadily climbed higher. She gazed pensively out of the clear glass at the night covered landscape and the twinkling stars in the dark sky. It was very beautiful, but her mind was too filled with thoughts of Salem and her family, as well as memories of her past sneaking up on her, to really appreciate it. When the elevator finally came to a stop and the doors opened with a ’ding!’ she jumped slightly before relaxing. ”Ah…well, shall we?” She smiled pleasantly across at Kalay. Outside was the hallway leading to the ballroom, where people were steadily still drifting in. Lis could hear music and the chatter and laughter of dozens of people all enjoying themselves.

____________________________________________________

With Salem's current temperament the search through the headmaster's desk was much more anger inducing then anything else. Hell, even the stash of dirty magazines he had brought him annoyance rather then the usual humored joy he would from coming across such things. Averting his gaze from the desk to go around the room, he kneed the drawer closed forcefully, finding disgust in the absolute lack of anything meaningful he found in amongst the headmaster's desk. Then again with a huff, he saw larger cabinets towards the walls of the room. They seemed much more appropriate for file holding then the desk. Which on a second thought seemed too small to contain any large amount of files as student files. Then again, he was worried his sister might have a special case, though as time was passing it didn't seem that way.

For now, it was a heavy relief. Too many things in life seemed to have a catch that just made it hard to enjoy some small simple things. Or, maybe it was just that this world hated him or hated his kind. With great power comes great misfortune seemed to be a running theme for Sorceress and their rare male counterparts. Crossing the room towards some of the cabinets, he blindly began to go through drawers, going through names as he slowly came to realize that the files he were going through were probably the students. The sheer amount seemed higher then the amount of staff that would be necessary, and realizing that everything was obviously alphabetized, he began to realize how sloppily he was searching.

It was silly, or at least that's what Salem thought as he pressed the palm of his hand to his face. His emotions were driving him to be impatient and fairly uncoordinated. "Remember your lady, Everett." The boy said to himself, letting his fingers dig through the files again, even though the letter's he was in was far from on target. He was way out in the W's. Beginning to close the drawer he had open, a familiar name passed by him that made him pause and give a second look. 'Winchester, Nona.' He mouthed to himself as he slipped the file out of where it was held. No time to go through it now, but it would be interesting to see what had become of the woman that ruined his peaceful life in Timber.

Well, as far as he was concerned she had. Again driven by selfish ambitions, he was sure reading up on her would be a entertaining thing. See what had become of the girl he remembered from so long ago. While he was here, he might as well help himself as he opened a few more drawers, pulling out a few more files randomly to see if anything of value could be perused from them. However, as he finally came through the E's, that paranoia he never rid himself of seem to come to fruition as 'Everett' just didn't seem to be there. Even after the third time he checked, he saw no sight of his sister's file.

Laying down the four files he had collected on the headmaster's desk, Salem let out a sigh as he rubbed his forehead. He had some files, but not his sisters, nor any kind of important thing he had hoped to come across in this office. A quick fast run and search was what he was hoping, as nervous and fretful as he was due to the situation. He had no time scale on how long this room would be abandoned, or the lay out of the garden, or even the average preparation level of a SeeD. Though, if anything this wasn't Galbadia Garden. That Garden was all militarized, while this place felt much more at ease by comparison. A small relief, which was nice considering.

Again wanting to bring his mind to focus and not lose his composure, Salem went to sit in the Headmaster's chair, though, the boy misjudged the distance it was behind him. Instead of sitting nicely in the chair, he pushed it backwards and ended up falling onto the floor. But before his annoyance could flare up again, Salem tilted his head as he saw something on the underside of the headmaster's desk. It was well hidden enough, colored just like the rest of the desk, except for the corner of a folder that was sticking out from it.

Rolling onto his side and pushing himself up to a sitting position, Salem slipped the folder out and frowned at it as it was unmarked. Standing while he flipped open the folder, a second one went unnoticed as it felt to his feet, as Salem's attention was far too invested in what he had unfortunately found. This was concerning his sister, and was noticeably filled with extra papers then the other student files he had come across.

It was not exactly a surprise that Nona didn’t take the boy’s reply very seriously. Her smirk might have been at Riyel’s expense, but her tone was really just teasing when she answered his comparison to a chameleon. ”Plan on blending in with the wall to survive?” she wondered, although the smirk faded a moment later as she peered out over the dance floor. It wasn’t exactly bustling with eager couples, but it still felt...imposing. Was his strategy really all that different from hers? No, it was. She wasn’t going to hide all night. She just...wasn’t ready. Right.

Riyel continued despite her remark, earning another look from the girl as he explained his usual connection to such events. She opened her mouth almost immediately, but then closed it, piecing together the information. That’s right...I’ve seen him cleaning up sometimes, she realized. She had never really bothered to take notice of Vicaria until he was on her team, and had forgotten that he was part of the Garden cleaning crew. Not the most glamorous job, but it was a mark of dedication. Not everyone could be recognized like she had been. Nona might have lacked sympathy for the situation, but Vicaria had been on her team during the exam; he had followed her lead well enough and performed under pressure. If only for those reasons, he was acceptable.

Nona had to look up a good bit to look the young SeeD in the eye. He was looking at her...oddly. But then, he was an odd guy. It wasn’t a creepy sort of look, just...she wasn’t used to someone being so relaxed around her without provoking direct aggravation, like Rabbit Boy did. His gaze was straight at her eyes, but her dress made her feel exposed. Nona realized her cheeks were still red a good while after the violinist’s departure and she turned to look back out at the dance floor, habitually crossing her arms again. It seemed so silly, but the lack of straps on the gown made her feel so much more vulnerable.

”I hope they don’t want you to clean up after your own party,” she replied after the pause. ”That’d be...heartless,” she muttered. It felt like a clumsy reply, but..he was the one who came over to hang around her. He and everyone else should have known what to expect from her by now. Despite this defensive mindset, Nona followed up with something she realized she probably should say. The mumble was a bit hard to hear, but Riyel could make it out. ”Congrats on passing, by the way,” she offered. In truth, she hadn’t bothered to look at hardly any name besides her on on the exam results; that she had not only survived, but passed, was what mattered. Still, they had done the same even if they lacked her ability. ”You earned it,” she added, almost grudgingly. It was sincere, at least. The next time she ran into Limmari, she'd have to tell her the same thing.

He took her initial answer in stride, merely warranting another small smile on his part at the cheeky response. "Well...if only I could. But now, as I'm not technically on duty, at least not until after...probably. But...I guess it's time to spread my wings." Riyel was not fully sure of himself either. He'd always been in the background, either serving or cleaning so this new role in a formal event was more than enough to make him wonder what to do. He merely sucked in a deep breath and still watched her as she spoke to him, turning his head away as she commented on his 'graduation.' There was still some regret there on his part...some unkempt emotions and events that more or less did not leave the change in his life to be as glamorous as he had hoped it to be. Sure, things could have been worse but he knew his faults...and what they had done during the assault on the Galbadian forces... He had chickened out. He had not stayed up with to fight the Galbadian leader...like his parents would have. Cowardice had gotten the better of Riyel and him primal fear of death caused him to turn away and shame himself...and with his fear, his parents as well as his grandmother.

And it continually grew worse. Now, even Ifrit would not speak to Riyel. Ifrit always chastised Riyel for falling prey to his emotions. Now the Demon of Fire would not even acknowledge Riyel when the young man desired a piece of advice from the great beast. The one person that Riyel really could talk to in dire situations...was ignoring him. Certainly, it sparked a note of sadness in the young man but it also lit a fire of wrath. Was it his fault that he had done what he had? To his knowledge, as well as the rest of most of humanity, he was a HUMAN. An individual known to fall prey to their weaknesses from time to time. It wasn't like he never tried to overcome those instincts. But in a normal death facing situation, his instincts just scream...'run.' Ifrit's judgements were his own...but they still hurt.

The air merely hissed from between his teeth as he watched the couples dancing out on the ballroom floor. "The assholes just might." He said flatly, in response to what she said to begin with, "They tend to be heartless, even though I 'graduated.'" And that would be a first...there was a note of sarcasm on Riyel's voice as he spoke the last word. Slowly, his blue eyes closed as he stopped for a moment. There was no need for Nona to be the bearer of his less than pleasurable self that was appearing today. "Thanks." Once more, he spoke with a more flat voice than accustomed to him but it was what he felt was necessary. He turned back towards her. "The same for you as well." His eyes once again made contact with her own before turning towards the dance floor.

It was there that it was caught once more. That sense of insecurity from Nona. What was that anyway? Her cheeks were still red. And her body language insinuated what he thought clearly...but why? "Why are you so nervous? Or afraid? I don't know what to make of it." He didn't know any way to ease into it, so he simply said it bluntly.

===========================================
Such a grand spectacle, a city in one place this megalith referred to as Winhill Garden. Such a structure surpassed even the wildest imaginings of the young man dwarfed before it. As if a child before a towering giant Varitas glanced up at the shining structures of stone and glass. His sun kissed face turned up in astonishment, in stark contrast to the snow-white cloth which coccooned his body. Despite it's pristine color, the edges and even the cloth itself was coarse with fraying hems and edges where the wind caught and carried it. However, his insticts quickly caught up to him while he stood there dumbfounded at the door. Keeping up the hood which framed his face, his well toned arm reached up from inside to strike upon the first door he saw, hoping that some hospitality might be shared, however, the sword slung, normally across his back rested now comfortably out of sight upon his hip where his hand now rested just in place. The childlike wonderment which had been viible only mopments before now surpressed to a stern visage fit for business or war.

While he awaited some response to the rapping upon the door, his mind drifted below the surface, thinking to the series of events which had ferried him to this foreighn place of decadence and luxury. Nearly a month ago, he and his compatriots had been executing a plan to wipe out one of the more aggressive monster enclaves which had been wreaking havock upon all in the area, at the very worst we were expecting some bombs and forbidden showing up, aside from the occasional tonberry. These were monsters everyone had seen dozens of times and Varitas and his party had dispatched before with great ease. However, after a few battles, the monsters stopped showing up, as though they'd been disbanded. Vartias and his friends let down their guard... got sloppy... And that was when things went to hell... Monsters descended in force, Tonberries Elastoids, Forbidden, Bombs, Blobras, Buel, and Gesper. Their numbers were overwhelming, attacking from all sides leaving Varitas no options but to fight to his last breath... Varitas' mind snapped from the past as though a brittle twig beneath a boot in the forest. Quickly he remembered where he was and his posture became rigid, continuing to wait for someone to come to the door.

Regardless of whether she actually respected his opinion, the returned compliment on the part of the SeeD exam was enough to get Nona to preen a little. Riyel could see her stand a little straighter, raise her chin a bit as she subtly shifted her posture. It wasn’t hard to see she prided herself on her performance. She was quiet for a few moments still, considering his earlier response. Would they really make him clean up after his own graduation ceremony? Before she was prepared to comment again, he replied with a question about as subtle as a guitar to the head.

Nona’s expression twisted sourly, and the look she fixed him with quickly told him he was treading on dangerous ground. Her nostrils flared, and she looked just for a moment like she might try and fight him on the dance floor. Fortunately for him, she had just enough self control to rein in that impulse. Maybe only because it was such a momentous event; one she wouldn’t dare jeopardize over a perceived insult. Still, Vicaria had clearly not earned any favor with that.

Then an expression reached her that might have been more frightening. She grinned, not exactly nicely, and grabbed the boy by the wrist. Her other hand instinctively picked up the instrument case that had been left in her care, slinging its strap over her shoulder; to abandon it would have been blasphemy to the young musician. Without explanation, she set off across the ball room. Riyel thought she might have been dragging him out onto the dance floor first, but he would realize she was just taking a direct route to her target. Across the room, engaged in conversation with a number of instructors and dignitaries of the Garden and the town of Winhill, was the Headmaster: Kelsier Nebulous himself. The older gentleman looked very respectable in his formal wear, standing out even among the crowd of well-dressed people. It was just a few steps away from the group that Nona stopped and let Riyel’s wrist go, turning to face him. They were quite close, but with the music and the conversation, she wasn’t afraid of them overhearing what followed.

”Quit,” Nona told Riyel simply, crossing her arms as she looked up at him with a smirk. In case he hadn’t caught on, she continued, indicating with her thumb the old man just a few strides away. ”Walk up to the old man and tell him you’re not a janitor anymore. You’re a SeeD. You get a dorm and salary for it.” The fact that this salary was definitely much better than a custodian’s didn’t need to be said; SeeD operatives were paid very well even at the lowest ranks.

She didn't respond. Well, she didn't have to. Many things could be said without the use of speech. As he complimented her on her own victorious achievement in graduation, he noticed her stand in a more self satisfied manner, not that anyone wouldn't be. Nona was one of the prizes of the Winhill Graduating class. Who wouldn't be at least a little proud of themselves? But even during his analysis of Nona's emotions, in the depths of his own thoughts, he still noticed her changing expressions, a transgression for a more pleasurable Nona to a more...irritated. He didn't quiver in nervousness. She took what he had said wrong but then again...he hadn't said what he thought clearly...his fault not hers. He merely shook his head as he missed...the smile. That was probably the most important feature that he should have seen.

In the blink of an eye, his to be precise, he was being dragged across the entirety of the ballroom, passing throughout the myriad of partakers in merriment...until they stopped. As soon as she spoke, his own eyes turned ferocious...angry, at her smirk and she spoke to him. Quit? Why...why would he quit? That job was all that he had before becoming a SeeD...what he had promised his grandmother that he would become. Quiting the Janitor job? No matter how horrible the job was, no matter terrible he was treated by his co-workers or the other SeeDs. It was what he had from his grandma...or was it? His eyes never left Nona's as she smirked at him. She was shorter than him, so it seemed a little more demeaning. His eyes looked into hers, just trying to imagine what was going on through her head as she explained her actions...to a point.

In that moment, his hand grasped the pouch within his tuxedo pocket. He had that. He had that... Fire blossomed in his eyes as he pulled away from her, taking a couple of steps. Did he dare do it? It was all he knew before this... With a sigh, he turned towards Nona, looking at her face once more. Damn. He thought, looking down at his feet. Well...he wanted to spread his wings...so he said. With that, he walked towards the man, taking the couple of steps it took to get up to him. "I quit the Custodian job. I'm done." He said it quick and efficiently, just so he could get away from the man. He had never really spoken to the headmaster and there was...such a rush from talking to the man. It was hard and the adrenaline was rushing through his ears as he listened to the music in the background. He turned away from the Headmaster and went back to Nona, his face red from...just getting that out. It was probable that steams could have come out of his ears...if they were a cartoon.

Well, obviously, he wasn't thinking straight. Taking off his jacket, as well as the Violin case that was on Nona's back, he placed them next to a bench, his tuxedo jacket being placed of course, on the seat. In that moment, he grabbed Nona's wrist, not too gentle but not too hard and pulled her out onto the dance floor, his emotions and adrenaline taking control of him as he grabbed her and looked at her, his face stony and red, a face that simply said. Dance. Immediately, he began to lead to the music, almost like a master ballroom dancer as he led Nona through the music and through the crowd, outdancing many of the dancers about them.

A brief glimpse of the pages revealed enough for Salem to allow his anger to once again be kindled, though instead of fanning his own flames he tried to dowse them as best he could by dropping the information on the other files he had decided to nick. This would have to be handled later, but for now, he needed to tuck these away and return to the ball. After all, he probably still needed to play, and if he didn't disappear oddly for the entire night, suspicion would probably not be immediately drawn on him.

"Fingers crossed." He muttered, taking hold of the bundle of items he had decided to take as such deliciously informative loot. Though, hating to be seen carrying so many papers and folders outside, Salem took a quick glance around the room for a alternative exit. Ah, and there it was, in such a alluring beauty. A window. A simple yet to him elegant window. Raising an empty hand, Salem began to cast float on himself again, before taking a running start towards the window.

Moments later the rare sight of a sorcerer leaping out a Garden window could be observed from the outside. However between the dark of the night and the height of his exit would make the sight a difficult one in any case though. Though, it's rarity was probably in due to the actually absence of intelligence this act would require. Though however fallible this act was however, the slippery slopes of the Garden proved to be a gentler descent then any man would have expected.

Hitting the ground with a near hilarious lack of elegance that would have made any prideful acrobat blush. Fortunately though, the effect of Float was well into affect, cushioning the impact of the fall. This left Salem relatively in tact, goodness knows that he'd be bruised in the morning. Not to mention his clothes were slightly worse for wear now. With a groan and the unpleasant taste of dirt in his mouth, Salem rose from the dirt, brushing his clothes off as best as he could before resuming his trip.

From here his trip was simple, a lovely stroll around the exterior of the Garden until he came across the one thing he wanted. The cars. Simple is as simple does. Managing to meander into his vehicle, luckily remembering where it was, it was no difficult task to unlock the vehicle and tuck the files beneath the drivers seat. And quickly kicking the door closed behind him and locking it, the magical male let out a sigh of exasperation as he once again faced the Garden. "Round two."

And today, I leave you
But I’ll be back someday
And as I fly away
My hope is that we’ll meet again
I’m off to my home away from home
I will miss you, but I know you know

I’m coming home to Winhill

It was time to go. She had sat here long enough, and well...there was nothing here to entertain her. With a small breath, she stood, her heels balancing as she stood. Her hair flowed down her back as she turned and walked, coming to the elevator and pressed the button, getting into it and riding it up to the Ballroom, where the sound of music echoed throughout the door of the elevator. Time to...mingle. Ivaria thought quietly, stepping out into the ballroom and looking about, grasping a glass of drink that lay on the table. Pressing it to her lips, her eyes scanned the area in order to find someone...anyone, that she knew. Obviously, she could not find ANYONE. She didn't talk to other people much and those that she did, she held little to no chance of actually seeing them. The overall populous of the area were dressed the same, so it would take them to find her, not the other way around as she sat down in a chair, her legs crossed and watched the proceedings, all while taking a sip of her drink. "Meh...social events." She said under her breath.

I’ll take you everywhere I go
I’ll show you everything I see
And as we say so long
I know your tears wish me well
It won’t be long till I’m back again
We will meet again, we will meet again, you’ll see

I’m coming home to Winhill

Actively engaged in the conversation with the group of well-dressed men and women, unfamiliar faces of people whom had come into Winhill Garden in order to come to the SeeD Ball that was occuring that Eve, it was only at the mention of the words 'old man' that the Headmaster, with near hawk-like precision, turned his head and locatd Nona Winchester and Riyel Vicaria. 'Old man? How impudent.' He mentally huffed, but outwardly maintained his good-natured expression.

So not to disturb those still conversing, he turned fully away from the group, giving his full attention to the young operatives who stood before him now, a cane tucked beneath one arm and a smoking pipe held in his other hand (something Sou-Ho seethed to see but out of respect for the headmaster's position unwilling to approach him over). "Is there something that I can help you two with. Ms... Winchester, and Mr. Vicaria?" He asked, prompting Riyel, whom hadn't said anything yet, to speak his mind.

"You wish to quit your custodian work? Hm... yes, I suppose that is fair. With all the work we'll be having you doing, cleaning up after a Garden is the last thing you will want to do." The Headmaster said, chuckling softly. "Well, Master Vicaria, consider your request for resignation of your custodial work accepted. But I'll be expecting good things from you in the future, so don't let my hopes down." Switching the pipe from one hand to the other, the Headmaster gave Riyel and firm pat on the shoulder, giving him a reassuring smile.

"And Ms. Winchester." He said, taking his hand of Riyel's shoulder as he turned to the young woman, quickly sizing her up with a glance as he looked on musingly. "My grandson had said you were a snapper dragon in a dress, but I assumed him to just be... well." He didn't finished that thought, instead moving on. "You would be wise to choose your words more carefully in the future. Some of us 'old men' aren't quite ready to accept that time has it's way of catching up to us." He laughed, clearly amused at his own joke. "Ahh, but enjoy your evening you two. Things are only going to get even busier from here on out." Looking back and forth between the two, smiling, his eyes softened, and behind his smile there appeared to be something else. He almost looked... somber. "Good evening to you both. And good luck." He said with a formal bow, then turning back to the group to rejoin in the conversation, clearly dismissing the two.

Nona had sort of expected hesitation from Riyel. Maybe he was just a little dim, maybe there was more to it; she didn’t particularly care. It was a strange sort of way to get back at him, but maybe it fit her. Cleaning up class rooms and hallways was no fitting work for a SeeD, and getting her subordinate out of such menial labor had a satisfying way about it. Nona had turned away from the Headmaster and failed to notice his own noticing of the two of them. Whether it would have made any difference in how she addressed him was questionable. Whatever the case, she followed Riyel’s movement as he stepped past her to address the old man. Even if his head was in the clouds a lot, he listened, and that was valuable in a soldier.

Riyel was short and to the point, but the Headmaster was somewhat more verbose. To Nona’s satisfaction, he complied, freeing Riyel of his less dignified obligations. Less expected was the old man turning his icy blue eyes on her, which a passing thought reminded her of Sou-Ho’s. Strange, since they weren’t the same color. His comment toward the end made her stiffen somewhat; she hadn’t realized she was being overheard, but she wasn’t about to retract it. He dismissed them, but Nona seemed like she was about to react again. Maybe to ask what the hell a ‘snapper dragon’ was; she was trying to figure out if it was a compliment or not before she addressed him again.

This delay gave Riyel the chance to act. Caught by surprise, the young man was able to remove the violin case from its spot on her back. ”Hey, I’m supposed to-” she began, only for him to return with a stern expression and grasp her wrist. The look actually seemed to briefly cow the girl, leaving her uncertain of what to say. Had she pushed him too far? Just as she was expecting him to pull her somewhere private so he could chew her out like one of the smug instructors, he instead paused in the midst of the dance floor and turned to her. Nona struggled to overcome the absurdity of the moment, giving him the chance to place a hand at her waist and take her other hand in his.

If there was anything Nona was unaccustomed to, it was following someone else’s lead. She looked imminently uncomfortable out on the dance floor, her cheeks starting to redden and her glare fixated on Riyel as he began to move her. Just when it looked like she had had enough and might be getting ready to belt him across the face, she stumbled as he changed position, tripping over the long skirt of the dress. It was only Riyel’s steady grasp that kept her from falling, but she still wound up with her head on his chest. She pulled back quickly, cheeks firmly red now, but seemed to take the dance as a challenge.

Where had a janitor learned to move so well? Maybe there was something instinctive about it. The musician herself quickly began to keep pace with him, the long back of her skirt swirling with her as they moved. The two watched each other as if daring one another to make a mistake, and the strange little contest between the vengeful boy and the strong-headed girl played out to a vigorous score.

‘Grace’ didn’t seem like a word meant to apply to Nona, at least not like this, but she seemed almost like a different person for a few minutes. The setting, the outfit, the activity...If it weren’t for her stubborn glare at Riyel, it would have been hard to recognize her. She kept pace with him and moved in an elegant pattern with the music, more in tune with it than any other couple on the dance floor.
