Calder saw no big off switch or shiny button to help them, and was quickly out of ideas. Aside from trying to hit it or shove things into it, he wasn't thinking of any other good ideas. When he noticed that Christof has similar ideas, he was feeling that he wasn't at least all that dumb if someone as gear-smart as the Igor was thinking of the same things. When the shovel broke however, it only made him from. He thought they could maybe try the bean bags, but most were torn now because of Herryk wanting to smash things and would probably just tear into confetti if they tried. If they were made of something thicker, it could bind it up.
The gears still reminded him of the water wheel back home and he tried to think of how that sometimes got bounded up. His mother used to make him de-weed it because the thick water plants would twist up in it and would later cause it to go slow and stop.
They didn't have vines here.....
Calder's expression brightened and he sat up, ears perked on his head. "Barth." He said, excited but remembered that Barth had wanted to keep his secret on the low-down. It was a secret after all.
Setting his bag aside, Calder scooted over until he was beside the boil, smile wide and energized. He had an idea! Scooting up to the boil, he moved the boil's hair aside and whispered into his ear. "What about your thorns?"

"My what?" Barth said, looking very nervous. "But I haven't- look, it's only been around you, and...well, Christof now, I suppose," he glanced briefly at Christof, and then, more worriedly at Freya and Herryk, "but- in public?"

Freya had a bunch of granola in her mouth when she messily asked.

"Chrsitof knows?" Aww. He wanted it to be THEIR secret. Yet, if the boil knew already? "Chrsitof, PSST! Come here. We need to talk." He hissed, waving the boil to sit down and patting the plush carpet.
Calder scooted closer to Barth and held his hands together, making the biggest eyes he could. "Pllleeeaasse. I remember that my house has a waterwheel and I had to clean it up all the time but if you did..."
He glanced at Freya who had a big mouthful of granola. Calder rose an eyebrow before looking back at Barth. "...that - then it might work. They've very pretty and strong and you showed me how you could make them move. You got a lot better." He held both hands on the demon's arm. "Can you at least try? If it doesn't work, then you don't have to do it again. I'll....I'll make everyone look away if you're worried."

Herryk was big and strong, oftentimes agile, but it seemed the door was far too fast for him to move his big beefy, super muscled, rippling hulkish body through.
The gears pinched his pinky finger, and Herryk jerked back with a dismayed look.
He would just have to try again.

Christof turned at the hushed whispering, brows raising as he inched his way forward, only catching the tail end of Barth's indignant response- but that was enough. BRILLIANT! He could have hugged the kelpie! Maybe later. When less people were watching. Instead, he gave Calder a good pat on the back, mouth twisting into an eager smile as he nodded feverishly to the Sloth.
Disposable, plenty of it- it was as good as throwing endless rope into it!
"Not-public! Just-us! And-them-" He glanced to the two first years, "But-what-do-they-care-they're-first-years."

Freya's sudden attention did not make him feel more confident.
But with Calder clinging to his arm and looking up at him that way, Barth felt some of the worries melt away into a fuzzy sort of wish that maybe he could just go up and...and...
"Even if I...I mean even if I did, I'm not sure if I can. It takes all night, sometimes."

Calder beamed. It still sounded like they were getting somewhere and once you got a little ways in a conversation, it just took some gentle prodding. The kelpie held onto the boil's arm, smiling. "We're not going anywhere after all. We're not going to put all the pressure on you. It's just a try. Okay." He spoke softly, and if anyone wasn't already familiar with Calder, his voice sounded far too feminine to be a boils, or maybe a bit to masculine to be a ghoul's. In times like this, his voice was soft and light.
"Just one try. If you can't, then no harm done. We're not in any rush since we're just sitting here, which means you can take your time." He scooted up and wrapped his arms about the boil, giving him a firm hug. "You won't know until you dip your hooves into the water. I have faith in you." He released and sat beside Barth, awaiting his answer.

Freya had no idea what they were talking about, but she got the gist of the situation. Barth could do something to help, but he wasn't very confident about it. Well, if there was one thing Freya had enough of to share, it was confidence.
She swallowed the granola hard and moved behind Barth, wrapping her arms around him affectionately.
"Yeh know something, sleepy? I don't knows yeh very well, but yeh gots a good head on yehr shoulders. If there's something yeh can do, I bet yeh gots the ability to do it up real right like. And if not, thinks of it this way - yehr still aheads of the rest of us in figuring this things out by a mile." She leaned in and reached for Calder, pulling them both of them into a big, ridiculous hug. "I'm really glads I mets yeh boils."
If nothing else, at least she had new friends.

Herryk wasn't sure what was going on, but after hearing Freya's words his head dropped. He'd been such a jerk, letting the fired up emotions of Hel fire him up too. He hadn't been very nice to Freya, and she was ... he wasn't sure exactly, but he knew she was special. He felt himself drawn to her in ways he couldn't explain, and even now the pull was intense.
Shuffling his way over to the group, Herryk grunted before mumbling to Barth, "Herryk knows Barth can help us." So supportive. He crouched next to Freya, and though he didn't wrap his arms around her individually, he did wrap his arms around everyone involved in the embrace. The whisper he spoke was for Freya's ears only.
"Herryk is sorry, ladybird." He sounded truly apologetic.

Christof shifted, twisting his hands anxiously. Everyone was... hugging. Everyone but him. It wasn't... he wasn't usually... hugs were... Oh, hell.
With a soft whine, even the gruff hunchback leaned in in his own awkward contribution to the group hug. Anything to get the Sloth to stop dawdling.

Barth had not really expected the pile of hugs, and the flush of compliments and encouragements.
Take his time...
That is, undoubtedly, what it would take.
"Alright, alright," he said, feeling a bit warm. "I'll give it a go."

Freya cheered, opening her arms up to let the other two in and bouncing as she squeezed the life out of all four of them. "He's goings to gives it a go! And we're goings to cheer him on, okay!"
She heard the whisper in her ear, and it made her shiver, forgetting exactly what it was that she was ranting about. She turned to Herryk, watching him carefully as he relented in his anger, and she tensed up. Undoubtedly, what she was feeling now was even worse than the feeling of heartbreak he'd given her a taste of, a moment ago.
And despite just how horrified she was at how she felt, she acted on it. She released the rest of the boys in her group, crawled into Herryk's lap, and kissed him soundly on the mouth.
When she was satisfied, she pulled away and crunched her face up at him in mock anger.
"Sometimes, I wish I didn't likes you as much as I do."
Honesty was the best policy.

He had no idea that the hug would spark a chain reaction and Calder was giddy to be smushed into a bigger and even bigger hug. Even Christof joined in and Calder was giddy with the wave of support. If this didn't get Barth to at least try, he didn't know what would.
When the demon finally buckled under the pressure - not only by support but from the strong hug from both Christof and Herryk (Freya seemed rather strong too now that Calder felt her pulling him close to Barth) but also from the words of encouragement, Calder broke into a bigger smile. "Thank you." Calder chimed, nuzzling the boil's cheek before breaking the hug and gesturing for everyone to give Calder space.
It probably wouldn't be good to stare at him, and so Calder would make sure that everyone kept their distance and just left Barth be. Though....he did want to be there for him if he needed help.

Christof opened his eyes from the hug just in time to see Freya land the kiss to Herryk.
He sighed, frowning.
Well... she was only a first year anyway. Never should get one's hopes up with ghouls.
The distraction did, though, prolong the hug.
