The hunchback returned almost immediately, as though afraid he would be kicked out of the bedroom too. "She-needs-rest," He signed urgently to Malodore, face wrought with concern. I could fetch more pillows from- he mentally edited himself, -next door if you require, Mistress... Anything, anything, just to help you recover. Should I resume on the carpets?

Her head remained in her hands while each of them spoke in turn. They cared. They cared too much, really. She didn't know how to respond to such a level of care, and it was tearing at her, little by little. Malodore, Jericho, and Christof deserved to care for someone who knew how to properly appreciate it.
Not this writhing mess of misplaced anger and emotion in front of them.
I don't know. She repeated, with a whine in her voice. Her head shook slightly in her hands. I just think.. She held her words. The last thing she wanted was another admonishment. She dropped her hands, and moved to slowly rest on the bed, face down.
Fine. I'll rest. My, but the bed felt so much more comfortable than the floor. But I don't need babying. Just remember that. She could tell her ego was taking a big enough hit already, and if they couldn't understand the delicacies involved in dealing with it, she would probably lash out without thinking any moment.

"I know," he said to Riley before glancing at the other two.
"Rest well my friend," Jericho nodded quietly, "I'll be back later."
The weariness he had was starting to hit him again. He was still worried about the mindflayer, but a lot of the stress had left him. The dragon needed some time to relax as well, and now seemed to be a pretty good time to try and do just that.

Malodore glanced from mindflayer to door and back again. It wasn't sure if it should stay or leave... but no, Riley had been alone long enough. It sent a wordless wave of affection her way, then sat down next to the bed, its wingfeathers chiming faintly. It wasn't going to move unless she wanted it to.

Feeling utterly useless, which made matters worse, Christof crouched down with a sigh to the remaining stains on the rug. Like hell he would let them set before giving them a good scrubbing. Mistress might have been in tatters, but .. but he could at least fix *this*.

Riley looked as still as the dead. She was grateful for Jericho, because he knew her well enough to give her some space, but she also felt a wave of affection fill her when she felt the light pressure of Malodore sitting on her bed. Ever stubborn, she should have known that it would refuse to leave her. Eventually she would ask for total privacy, but for just this moment, she was moved enough to remain silent, and snuck her hand out to find its claws, and pull it into her hold. She tugged it, just gently, as if requesting it come beside her.
All pretense of strength melted from her, as if she didn't realize Christof was still in the room, and she privately whispered one thought to the plague doctor before falling silent for the rest of the night.
I love you.
But by the way she said it, it sounded more like I'm sorry.

Malodore leaned back, reaching one hand backwards to coax its wings into an awkward fold. Ti amo troppo - la mia selvaggia, tesoro bello. Its mental voice was weary, yet there was an odd pride there too.
It wove its claws through her fingers and tilted its head back, maintaining silent vigil until it, too, slept.
