Len fidgeted at her desk, scribbling on her notes in boredom.
What's he gonna show us? she asked herself. Maybe a zombie. Oooh, that'd be cool. Where would he keep a zombie, though?
She leaned over her desk and looked around, as though expecting to see something rotten peeking out from a cage or under a desk.

Tapping the tips of his fingers together he nodded as the rest of the class made it to their seats, keeping his relaxed smile. "Wonderful! " He clapped his hands together, as he leaned back onto his chair. "Now, for the surprise... I was considering this even before class started, on whether or not to go through with it. I was going to announce earlier than expected that a wonderous offer was given to me by a sincere benefactor, who is rather old in his years." He weaved his fingers together as he leaned forward onto his chair, his elbows resting on his desk. "...also has a rather long beard." He laughed, stroking his chin to emphasize the fact. "He is the headmaster of a school... a very prestiged school of magic, but I digress... to the point I was getting at. We were invited to attended an event that isn't scheduled for a few months, the Annual Dueling Tournament. This is a very acclaimed event, it's rather new.. it's nothing at all like the fame Quidditch recieves.. though I don't know how many of you know what I'm speaking about. " He sighed looking at Aphrodite. ".. But whatever the case may be, the headmaster at the Merlin Academy for Magical Arts has invited us."
"A dueling tournie!" Aphrodite gasped, falling back with glee. "That is so cool!"

The Merlin Academy!
Rex stared at Salem, both in awe and disbelief. He'd heard about the famous wizard Merlin from Silencer, but could recall if he heard any mention of the academy.
A duelling tournament. How cool is that. In an instant the boy had decided he was to join the tournament.
"Um.." Suddenly overcame with curiosity, Rex raised a tentative hand. "The headmaster, is he... er, Merlin himself?"
Well, he just had to ask.

Len quirked an eyebrow and said nothing. Dueling wasn't exactly something she'd be jumping up and down in excitement over. Disappointed that there had, in fact, been no zombie show-and-tell, she started doodling on her notes again.
"Sounds nice," she said with belated politeness, busy scribbling skulls and crossbones in the note margins.

Baxterfullous took note at Lenore's quiet response, thogh he merely smiled at Rexier. "You are a bit more perceptive than I thought. Though yes he is.. he's growing old in his age, and tends to talk more in his ramblings..." He sighed. "He also noted that not only are we invited, but we can have a grand tour of the castle and the grounds. The Merlin Academy isn't very well known due to it's highly secretive nature, it is how ever the best acreditted school for defense against the dark arts.. more so noteably for it's live targets." He winked at Lenore, to emphasive to grizzly and gruesome creatures she would be able to meet.
"He's very excited... " Excited wasn't the word he wanted to use, Merlin wasn't the kind to get.. excited... At least that was Baxterfullous noted during the time he attended school. " I mean, he's estactic to meet you, he's very much for the rights of magical beings, and almost anti-human in his golden years... " Bax waved his hand airly, he himself didn't care much for humans either. "Bah, to hell with most of them humans. Ignorant creatures..." He shook his head as he stood.
"Now! .. I will hope to discuss this with Jabir, he is the one I suppose I should go to see whether or not you'll be able to go, this is why I'm telling you all in advance."
Aphrodite gaped, staring at Baxterfullous as though he had something on his face. "Wow...I'm speechless." She gasped, smiling up at Rex, glad to see his enthusiam.

Ike's eyes widened in horror.
Magic. Being used to fight. Whether or not it was a competition, he didn't trust himself. Sure, he knew he wouldn't be allowed to participate...but William liked to make him do things.Especially with "live targets" around. Fear still cluthcing the boy's heart, he dropped his terrified expression and grinned.
"Cool."
I'm not going.
Oh, yes you are.

Deimosn listened and the idea, well it slightly perkered his interests to say the least. Itd be a chance to show off his abilities.
'You'd have to train more though..' Erebus voice piped in.. The demon was exited as well to get to enter such a secretive place.
Deimos nodded to himself. Yes, he would.. Glancing over at the group he smiled. "We could show that crew how tough we are." He stated, ideas rushing througgh his head at how to possibly show off the most.

Baxterfullous smiled a bit, glad to see a bit of excitement. "Well, whatever the case, this won't be for a few month. So I wanted to give you a bit of encouragement to do well in class... Speaking of which let's pick up where we left off.. Now the last bit of class I want to show you a room that you will be using for practice and independant study. It is called the controlled enviroment, it is a room given to me by the Merlin academy, so you my students can recieve and do your best. Every, come on. This way over to this door." He spoke as he walked towards a door clearly marked "Controlled Enviroment". Taking out a set of keys, he unlocked the door, placing his hand in the middle of the door an arrangement of runic symbols flashed around the frame as the door dissappeared. "This way."
Aphrodite gulped, the first to hovering up and follow after her teacher.

Rising with a bit of reluctance, Len hesitated and crept next to Ike and Rex.
"What d'you guys think of that dueling stuff?" she asked softly. She noticed how Bax had looked at her - was it weird that she didn't find it interesting? Sure, fighting to protect was great, but fighting for sport? It didn't seem right.

" It's really cool.. actually. It's alot like fencing, but intead of swords it's magic being used. Really professional dueling looks like some sort of dance... It's really all for show, and to prove who's the greater caster. Professional dueling, like the tournaments, no one really gets hurt... unless you count pride." Aphrodite hovered as she spoke softly, taking a perch on Lenore's shoulder. "... At least that's how it goes nowadays." She stopped herself from speaking any further, she didn't want to sound like a know-it-all, at least more than she already did.
"Enough chit-chating." Baxterfullous said as he waited inside the room. I want to make this quick and explain to you the purpose of the room before I dismiss class.. Let's pick up the pace shall we?"

Sighing Baxterfullous continued into the room without those that weren't following him. "Now keep open ears, I'll only explain this once... The controlled enviroment is a study lab. This is where you can practice magic in a close enviroment without the fear or worry of property damage.. or injury." He climbed up the steps that lead to the large raised pentagram in the middle of the room. "Now, observe." He spoke as he summoned a pillar of water and shot it towards the wall... only to have thewater stop short inside the circle.
"See? ... In order to use this lab, you must ask me permission first. This was graciously given to me by the Merlin academy for the pure use of teaching you mishaps." Baxterfullous smile as he held out his open hand, the water absorbing into his palm. "Now for the rest of the room.. it's iused for potions and study.. nothing more.. It's n ot the library... but's it's easier to find the information you're looking for without having to search... Any questions before you're dimissed?"

"That's all for class?" Rex asked, looking down on Bax. No doing magic?

"Ah!" He nearly tumbled over, off the raised platform. "No, not at this time.. The next lesson will involve casting, after your practice test. Now for homework, study your notes and bring them to class.. if they are unfinished find a kind classmate to copy off of."
Aphrodite blinked for a moment, as she hovered in midair. Nodding she sighed, well class was a bit uneventful.. except for the announcement of the feildtrip that may or may not happen.

Ike, who had been watching from outside the door, quickly returned to the classroom and began packing his things. He snorted, mumbling to himself in a strange mish-mash of 3 languages.
He hated school, he hated magic, and he hated being a Mishap.
Not quite caring if the class was over or not, he strode quickly out of the room.
