In the clearing again, poke had walked around it at first looking for possible berry trees, but she couldn't seem to find any like the one she saw before. She could ask the doggy-girl if she knew any more bushes, but she seemed too busy with playing with the puppy. And she didn't want to wander away from the camp, she could run into another badger or, even worse, get lost.
She sat down near atticus and blade again, not really interested in playing at the moment. Although she was kinda intrigued by the boy trying to make fire. She heard of people doing magic before; Her dad was able to do some really cool tricks with water. Although when she tried to do the same things, nothing happened. Apparently she wasn't old enough to be able to.
Watching the boy sit down in frustration, poke felt bad for him. He had been trying really hard too... Maybe she could say something to cheer him up?
"umm.." she started, looking at the wood. "I think it is working...cause the woods starting to smoke..."

Looking at Poke, Blade shook his head at what she had to say.
"Doesn't matter. It didn't burn and now I'm tired," he huffed. Aside from feeling worn out, he was feeling even hungrier now than before. The attempts to make a fire had quite literally burned out his energy for the time being.
"We'll have to find another way to set it on fire..." he mumbled while crossing his arms. The boy kind of wanted a nap now, but he really would like to eat first before that. It was too bad he didn't really know how to start a fire otherwise.

Atticus had been preparing the animal while he thought Blade was getting the fire started. His coat and undershirt were tossed aside while his pants were rolled up with a scalpel in hand. His hands were already bloody.
When he realized there was no burning smell, he looked back to the boy. After a moment of watching him, the raven reached into his medical bag and pulled out a pack of matches. "Catch Blade." he called back and tossed them to the boy. Yeah. He was giving a kid matches to play with. "Use those."
Riyo watched him closely after she asked the question. His face was so sad... Why was that?
When he started examining her, she quickly realized what was happening. Her tail slid underneath her clothes and her ears fell back against her head. "W-what did you think?" It was obvious that she was nervous and a little uncomfortable even asking, but she wanted to know. Did he hate her without even realizing it?

"I think its a story," Neko finally shrugged. He had at one time been very angry about it but his mother had told him that wasn't a way to live. She had only told him the story to explain why it might be dangerous for him and not for him to have something to blame. Though at times it still bothered him quite a bit, he could feel the edge of anger welling up. The need to pay back those who had made his mother suffer because of what he was or what they thought he was. But this little girl couldn't be part of that. It wasn't that he couldn't believe what she might be, but rather, he knew what it felt like to be held accountable for something that was more or less a fairy tale at this point. "I don't think anyone should have to suffer because of a story that may not even be true." His tail gave another thunk to the ground as he thought about it. He really wanted to convey something else, tell her more, but he had a hard time forming the words. Being a child with low interaction really drained the mental pool.

poke didn't know how else to make a fire, so she was helpless on this matter. And she couldn't do anything about him being tired either. However the matter seemed to solve itself when a packet of matches was thrown to the boy. She blinked, unsure of what the the box was supposed to do.

Hearing Atticus's voice, Blade looked over towards the guy only to have a book of matches thrown at him. Oh, that'll help. He didn't know how to use flint and steel or how to rub two sticks together, but he could light a match.
Picking it up, he grabbed a match and went to strike it against the side. He failed to light it up the first couple of tries, but he managed to get it going eventually. With the small flame at hand, he tossed the match into the wood pile, landing on some of the kindle that was easier to burn. Slowly but surely, a little campfire was going.
That made the boy feel a little better, but he was still tired and hungry.

When the badger was skinned and cut into edible pieces, Atticus used nearby sticks as skewers and placed them next to the fire where they would get enough heat to cook. It wasn't filet mignon or anything, but it would certainly fill them up... And probably bring the lost two back faster than he could yell dinner.
As clean as he had tried to be about it, he was still covered in blood. Glancing to the lake, he walked over and glanced at the sign. Lake of innocence, huh? The name struck a chord with the current situation. He had to wonder... Was this the reason for the screaming brats that ran around his feet now? What was written below it?
Suddenly, he wasn't so sure that he wanted to wash up...
Riyo hadn't really been satisfied with his answer, but decided not to press the matter any further. She'd wanted to ask 'What if it was true?'. What if...
Truthfully, now that she thought about it, even she couldn't be completely sure. Yeah... She'd matched the description... And yeah, they said her Father admitted it before he fled...
... Well... Maybe they were lying.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a smell that started to grow stronger. It made her stomach cry out, which in turn made her blush in embarrassment. She did her best to ignore it most days, but it was hard when she smelled something good cooking.

Once the meat was prepared Mitsu scampered toward the fire and watched Atticus carefully as he placed the meat on sticks and close to the fire to cook. She was focused in on the skewers especially after the smell filled the air. Why wait right? How long could it really take to cook the meat? She had seen her brother eat raw food on occasion so it must be yummy. Reaching for the closest skewer Mitsu went to grab a piece of meat off ready to chow down.
Neko had caught the scent of cooking meat as well and turned his head up toward the air to take in a fuller breath. Oh, it smelled so good. Neko barely noticed the hungry protest of Riyo's stomach over the rumble of his own. Eyes set in the direction it was coming from Neko realized it was back the way they had come. Torn he looked back to the girl with a questioning look. "Food?"

There wasn't much else to do but wait for it to cook. And waiting was boring. Poke sighed and continued to wait, although mitsu wasn't so keen on waiting. She wondered briefly if you were able to eat food without it being cooked. No, better to wait until you were told it was ready.
As she sat there, a question occurred to her. "Umm..." she said out loud. "What are we gonna do after we have dinner? are we gonna stay here?"

The food smelled rather tasty as it started to cook over the open fire. Blade sat by in anticipation, waiting for the meat to start turning brown. When one of the girls grabbed a stick already, he blinked and watched her. Was the food ready already? With a shrug he grabbed one of the skewers and prepared to eat as well.
He paused though, as the other girl asked what they were to do. It was a good question... Personally he wanted to try and find a town to stick around for awhile. Other than that, there really wasn't anywhere for him to go. Surely these other kids had homes to return to though, wherever those were.
Of course, he could always try to go 'home' as well. Though, the thought of that made him considerably less hungry. Lowering the meat stick, he let out a sigh. There was no way he could go back to that place.

Atticus had been too busy studying the sign to notice the children converging on the uncooked meat. If he had, he probably would've said something along the lines of "If you want it that bad, you're gonna have to eat it all no matter what it tastes like."
Alas, the only thing his mind acknowledged was Poke asking about where they would be going after this. A question he wasn't so sure of. "I suppose that's all we can do right now." The raven finally said.
Riyo wasn't so sure she wanted to go back... But she knew Neko did. "Food." She said with reluctance, her eyes fixed on the way they'd come from. Though, she wasn't sure if the people cooking the meal would happily share it with them...

The first piece was popped into her mouth and it certainly tasted....different. It wasn't bad but it was incredibly hard to chew. Mitsu only gave it a few more tries before she merely swallowed the large chunk of meat, somehow not choking on it. Amazing how a child can choke on something as small as a hard candy but can swallow something much larger with ease. Pulling the second piece on the stick free, Mitsu put the remaining down on the ground while she gripped the meat with both hands and tried to tear it with her teeth. It was resilient and when it finally started to tear the force she was exerting in the process flung her backward when it finally pulled apart.
Laying there with the piece of meat hanging from the side of her mouth she now understood. Raw meat was just too much work. "Maybe its not done."
Tobi, as happy as a clam, sniffed at the remainder of the meat Mitsu had left on the ground. With a yip he started to chew away not having any easier of a time than Mitsu had. He pulled and tugged, chewed a bit more, but only managed to get tiny bits. At least he would be busy for a while.
---
Neko seemed to sense her reluctance about going back. "We...don't have to go." Standing to his feet he looked around. There wasn't much of an indication if there were any animals near the trail but maybe he could find...something? Moving a bit further ahead he looked for tracks. "Maybe I can find us something."
While Neko was busy looking, the bushes by Riyo started to stir. The rustling became more urgent and dire before out popped.....a baby piglet. The fuzzy shoat stared up at Riyo curiously giving small grunts. It seemed to be no bigger than Tobi, its coat a mess of brown with spots.

Seeing Mitsu have trouble eating the meat, Blade decided to put his stick back over the fire to let it cook more. It looked like it was really tough so maybe it'd take a little while for it to soften up. That was what he hoped at least.
While he waited, he brought his knees up to his chest and rested his chin on top. He watched the flames dancing before his eyes and enjoyed the warmth they provided.
"Where do you come from..?" he asked them softly, not being all too particular with who he was talking to exactly.

watching mitsu try to eat the food, poke decided that she would wait a bit long before it was cooked. At atticus reply she looked back to the fire, wondering exactly what he meant. She wanted to go home...she missed her family and her friends, and the beach as well. Everything here was just to strange for her...
When blade asked when they come from, poke looked up from the fire. "well...I come from the city, near the beach." she said. "And theres lots..and lots of people around, but they don't like each other. They fight all the time."

Using the shirt the dog had peed on as a towel, Atticus simply wiped off the blood as best as he could. He still felt gross, but there was no way he was going back to his childhood and forgetting where the hell he was.
When he was at least satisfied with the cleanliness of his hands, he walked over to check the meat. "Looks about done." He commented, carefully removing one of the pieces of meat and tasting it. It was soft enough to chew, but not well done enough to loose it's flavor. "Alright, dig in kids." He said after taking a few more pieces and letting them have at it.
His eyes scanned the end of the clearing for Riyo and Neko. Where the hell had they gone? In a situation where they were older, his mind might've shot to the gutter, but that was obviously not the case.
"N-no it's-" she watched the distance between them increase and sighed. "Okay..." Was what she had intended to tell him. Oh well...
The sound in the bushes made Riyo's ears stand on end. Her eyes quickly moved to the bush where she watched with anticipation and curiosity. She had yet to find out that sometimes rustling bushes meant a shitload of trouble.
"Awww." It was small and adorable, which was secretly little Riyo's (And big Riyo's) weakness that seemed to be shared among all women to an extent.
The noises it made gave her warm fuzzies. She knelt down slowly to examine it further, not quite sure if it wanted to be petted like the puppy had.
