The boulders held. The rope didn't snap.
Karonashi, and his backpack/teammate Tsu, were hanging from the cliff edge by the rope. Karo's hands tightened on the rope and he let out a soft sigh of relief.
"Ok, that's done... now to go down..." The teen swung his legs, creating enough momentum to swing him against the rock face. As soon as he was there, he dug the toes of his feet into the stone, ignoring the flare of pain that he jagged material sent into his feet. Slowly, slowly, he pulled one foot back and stretched it down, searching for a hold. When he found one, Karo's hands slid down the rope.
Then his feet slipped. The two were sent plummeting downwards, the only thing keeping them from free fall was the fact that Karonashi's hands had tightened on the rope. The material was burning and cutting into his hands, staining the rope red with his blood, but eventually their rapid descent slowed.
"Itaiii...." Karo looked to see how far down they had come, and blanched. They were at the end of the rope, but only halfway down the mountain face.
"Of course it's not long enough..." He groaned. Karo had two options now - just let go, and hope that falling halfway down the mountain didn't kill them, or... He swung his legs again, bringing him closer to the rocks with each swing. Soon he was able to hook his foot around a rocky outcropping, and pull himself flush against the rock face. Moving swiftly, he let go of the rope and grabbed the stone, holding on tightly. The Academy student was going to take a break and catch his breath when a cracking sound reached his ears. Immediately his eyes went upward and his skin went stark white.
The boulders had fallen off the edge of the mountain and were caught precariously on a small stone. If he had to guess, it was the jerking tug on the rope from the fall that had overbalanced the boulders and pulled them down.
"Crap crap crap..." Karonashi began climbing sideways, hoping he could get himself and Tsu out of the way before the boulders broke the stone they were caught on and continued their fall. Hand over hand he went, ignoring the bouts of pain that came from his raw and bloody hands. Then a snapping sound echoed down the mountain, and he began praying to whatever was listening that he had made it far enough to the side. He still kept going sideways, and it was fortunate that he had - one of the boulders hurtled past where he had been when he heard the stone break not moments later. Any hesitation would have left him in the way of the falling rock - worse, it would have put Tsu in the way, and that was something he couldn't stand to have happen.
The danger of the falling boulders past, Karonashi was able to resume his downward progression.
It was nearly half an hour later when Karo finally let go and dropped the last few feet to the ground. As soon as he was down, he laid Tsu down and checked on her to make sure she hadn't gotten hurt during the climb. She hadn't thankfully, so the teen picked the harness back up and began slogging towards Sunagakure.
"I don't see how you slept through that, but it's probably a good thing."

Nagisa walked down the mountain pass, checking occasionally to be sure her team was still there. Her bugs flowed out of her coat once again. They were getting used very frequently now, but all that meant was she was also gaining a better connection with them. Her bug radar, encircled all of the members, although the bugs stayed a big enough distance away from her team. Most people didnt like having bugs close to them. The bugs would inform her of anything they found out of the ordinary. She kept an eye out for any signs where Ukiyo had gone, but the trail was cold...

XXXXXMoving right along, Sosay wasn't going to waste any time in leaving Kumo. She wanted to get this mission done and over with as soon as possible. Running, her long soft black hair trailed along behind her. She would glance behind her for a minute, just to make sure she hadn't lost Raiden just yet. Hopefully the information she had been given was right and not fake. Picking up a bit of speed she hurried off, heading to the water country.

The other two were just within sight, but Asuka made little effort to close the gap. She was, after all, merely a "scholar" who couldn't be expected to move too fast. It was an interesting thought, she had more or less been rushed to Konoha on her last trip and hadn't gotten a chance to enjoy the trip. Now was the perfect chance to take her time. As she walked, Asuka stopped occasionally to look into her bag to make sure she brought the bug-cages, and from time to time she stopped to look at a particularly ordinary looking insect.
Eventually, she arrived behind Hibari and Haruka who had stopped to wait before they went down the dangerous road. "What's the holdup? never been outside the village before?" She asked loudly before taking a long drink from her water bottle.
