Rory's body stiffened a little at her question. "You know, Lee. Somethings are better just not thought about. I'm not really sure I wanna answer tha'. It donnae exactly hae much t' do wi' where we are now. Or does it?"

That had been an answer enough on its own. She wasn't hurt in the least, though, because she hadn't asked for the sake of knowing that fact. Lee wanted to make the point that he was only hurting himself by distrusting others, but it was clear that it wasn't a subject he wanted to get into. She nodded, reluctantly apologizing for having asked. "I'm sorry... You're right." She smiled up at him faintly before standing, having caught her breath by now.

The boy got up with a soft grunt, using the wall for leverage. "No, you're right, actually. You got a right t' know. I didnae know you were an outsider when you first came up till you tol' me. I wasnae sure what t' think, really. W' get so many outsiders tha'a move t' th' camp 'cause they think some fancy thoughts about th' life w' lead, an' they find out tha' it's a lot o' hard work an' w're poor . . . and then they leave. Wi' you, though, I saw somethin' there tha' wis different than th' other outsiders. Fao bein' wi' you maybe had me notice it sooner, sure, but you were different, are different. You actually try t' understand us on our level. I donnae think I'd hae hated you if Fao wasnae th' one t' introduce us. I just think I'd hae been t' scared an' embarrassed t' talk t' th' bonny outsider lass wi' th' sapphire eyes."

She was actually a bit relieved; sure, the distrust was still there, but at least he wasn't too quick to actually hate someone he didn't know. Lee giggled softly at the last statement, stepping closer and lacing her fingers with his. "I dunno what I would've done if he hadn't..." Gone home, probably. Been lonely. Lived the same life she had before. Wow, she really needed to thank Faolan for introducing them.

"You'd prolly hae left when your parents came fae you," Rory said, seeming to read her unspoken thoughts. "Glad you didnae gae, though. I know I ain't th' sorta man you or your parents e'er envisioned fae you an' tha' this wasnae th' life you imagined you'd be livin', but I'm glad you wanted t' stay an' try."

Lee gave him a crooked smile, shrugging a bit, laughing slightly as she spoke. "I didn't do a lot of planning. I did a lot of dreading what other people'd planned for me." She leaned in, half whispering as she said, "I don't think you realize... This is so much better than anything I imagined..." before kissing him softly, pulling back and smiling up at him.

"So, bein' dirty an' poor is better than bein' fancy an' rich is it?" Rory asked, laughing. "Best not let tha' secret out, lass. There'd be nae end t' th' outsiders wantin' int' th' clan." He took her hand in his, leading her back into the crowds. "Let's gae home, love. I'll make us a nice lunch t' take on picnic."

Lee covered her mouth as she giggled, gladly taking Rory's hand as they started walking. It would be nice to be back in Farstep, and while shopping was still fun, she was a bit tired of having to watch herself and those around her as Rory had advised.

Rory led her back to the trolley station and, bypassing the kiosk this time since their tickets were still good, waited on the platform with Lee. Getting on the trolley again, Rory found one open seat and got Lee to sit while he stood behind her, playing idly with her hair, making the scarf's bells jingly softly.

Lee fell into the seat casually, looking back and smiling apologetically to Rory for taking the only seat. As the trolley started moving, the sort of trance she got from riding along was interrupted by a familiar voice. "Aw, Rory, you don't have a seat? You can always share one with me, you know." Hailey was a few seats away, smiling and giggling in Rory's direction.

Rory glanced over, fingers tightening unconsciously in Lee's hair a moment. He tilted his head at the girl, trying to figure out why she knew his name before realizing it was the girl that had flirted with him in the shop. Lee's friend . . . Hillary? Something like that. He inclined his head politely to the girl. "Tha's alreet, lass. I'm good where I am."

Lee cocked an eyebrow, frowning at the girl's presence. "Why are you riding this? Don't you have a car?" Knowing where the blond was from and how wealthy her parents were, it was unheard of that she would have to ride public transportation. Hailey rolled her eyes, giggling at her question as if it was ridiculous to ask such a thing. "Don't be silly, Lee, I love the trolley. So anyway, my friend went home, so I was like, I should totally visit that carnival place!" Gasping as if she'd suddenly realized something, she turned back to Rory. "Oh my god, that's right! You live there, too, don't you? You should totally show me around, ya know?"

Rory had no idea how to react. Girls made him nervous. Outsiders made him nervous. Hailey was both. "I kinda had plans." He looked down at Lee, trying to see if she had any indication on what to do or say.

"Yeah, we were actually gonna go do something when we got back. We're gonna be busy. For the rest of the day." Lee wasn't about to mention what they were planning to do, heaven forbid the girl got it in her head that she could tag along. Hailey tilted her head, narrowing her eyes for a moment before saying, "Ohhhh, you two are a couple? Oh my god, I never would have guessed. You don't really look like you... fit, if you know what I mean." No, Lee didn't know what she meant, and decided to ignore it. She could tell the girl still had her sights on Rory, and probably planned to visit Farstep anyway, if only to find out where he was living.

The boy cocked an eyebrow. "An' how exactly donnae w' fit, eh?' This girl knew Lee from before. Maybe she had insight. The idea that Hailey was flirting with him or interested in him didn't even register in Rory's mind.
